VMWare Fusion, Parallels or VirtualBox for Mac

Many of us need the ability to run Windows on our Mac and the question is, what virtual software is the best solution. I have tried all three of these choices and it really depends on the version. I was a huge fan of VMWare Fusion when it came out but it was chewing up so many resources that I switched to Parallels. I didn't want to buy another license for another mac I had for work so I tried VirtualBox and surprisingly it works great and I still can't believe its free.

If price had so bearing on the results I would rate them

  1. Parallels
  2. VMWare Fusion
  3. Virtual Box

Now put price into the picture and I rate them

  1. VirtualBox
  2. Parallels
  3. VMWare Fusion

There are a lot of reviews on all three of these but the best thing to do is download the trial of each or just see if you can get by with Virtual Box. It's free and if you know no different than you are $100 richer.

Everytime Parallels or VMWare release a new major version (which seems to occur once a year) you have to pay for the upgrade. VirtualBox is free from the start to the finish.

By the way... do not waste your time with Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac.. its the worse. Very resource intensive, most USB items you plug in won't even register or work and it has proven to be unreliable and laggy.
