November 27, 200916 yr When trying to update my iPod Classic 160Gb with my macbook pro I kept getting the 1430 error message. So I figured, let me do some searching on the internet, and I found no answers, just a lot of questions. So my next shot would be just to restore it to 1.0.2 and then resync all my stuff back onto it, that's when you get the 1418 error message. I also tried to restore it to version 1.0.1 and got the same error message. I also did a hard reset on the ipod (pressing the center button and then menu until the apple logo displays), that didn't fix it. I also did a diagnostic of the iPod (pressing the center button and then menu until apple logo displays and then hit the center button and the left arrow).. iPod classic passes the diagnostic tests. I figured i would try and put my classic in disk mode (pressing the center button and then menu until apple logo displays and then hit the center button and the play button until you enter disk mode)... but this didn't help either. What ended up working for me was this.... In iTunes I clicked on my iPod so it showed me the Summary Tab... I turned on Disk mode and turned off all automatic syncing and this seemed to fix the issue. I was then able to restore my iPod Classic to 1.0.2 from the current 1.0.1 I believe iTunes was trying to sync at the same time it was trying to update or restore, causing a conflict and then ejecting the iPod. So in short, need to ensure no syncing activities are going on. Hope that helps...
