November 27, 200916 yr I love music and is why I have 130GB of it. Most of it copied for CD's and Tape's I owned and others downloaded from iTunes. I don't download music off hack websites like limewire or others because the quality just isn't there and if I am to DJ with my music I would rather not have it then have a bad quality version of it. Anyhow I decided I should backup my collection which is found on my external hard drive. I also have a Link Station by Buffalo that I am going to backup to. Unfortunatly the only way to backup to the linkstation is via a Network connection. So I attach a little four port switch and plug my MacBook Pro to it and the Linkstation. Now comes the question on what is the best method for backing up files. I like using the following software packages to accomplish my task of backing up software and music. 1.) SuperSync (is great if you have music to import into your iTunes or to sync with other computers but it doesn't copy from iTunes to something else without iTunes loaded) 2.) SuperDuper! (this is great to create bootable backups but it's not really ideal for copying or sync'ing individual folders) 3.) ChronoSync (this tool is great for backing up or syncing folders from one location to any other location) I wanted to backup my external drive which has my iTunes folder, my Source_Files folder (with all my software on it) and my movies folder (which has my iMovie projects on it). Step 1. Open ChronoSync and select external drive and folders as source, Network drive and folders as destination and click mirror left to right.
