Audi's upcoming all-electric sports car, going under the Concept C alias, could end up being one of the brand’s most important cars in years. Beyond introducing a new design direction, the car will also set the standard for how future models will be developed. Despite rumors that the Concept C was being scrapped, CEO Gernot Döllner confirmed that the production version is expected to reach the market in just two years.

Audi vs AUDI

Yes, the spelling matters. Audi remains the global brand competing with rivals like BMW and Mercedes-Benz, while a separate China-focused brand called AUDI was created with partner SAIC. Working closely with China has pushed Audi to rethink how it develops cars, replacing slower committee-heavy processes with tighter project teams that bring design, engineering, and production together from the start. The aim is simple: make decisions faster and get new models to market sooner without sacrificing German engineering.

Döllner confirmed in an interview with Go Auto that the production version of the Concept C, widely seen as a spiritual successor to the TT, is targeted to arrive by 2028. That's surprisingly quick by traditional European standards. Döllner goes on to say that Audi is adopting lessons from its Chinese sub-brand AUDI to make development cycles quicker. Not only will the Concept C be the first to make use of "China speed," as Döllner put it, but also set the precedent for future Audi models' cabins and design language. The Concept C's interior ditches the trendy big infotainment screen in favor of a more decluttered cabin, and the thinner vertical grille will replace the wide one we've seen on the latest Audi RS5.

Faster, Cheaper, But Also Better

Perhaps Audi has too many irons in the fire. The German carmaker admitted to Motor1 that its interior quality isn't up to par anymore, and wants to go back to what it once was. On top of that, they want to shorten development times and reduce production complexity, and bring down costs as a result. If the Concept C reaches production on schedule and delivers on quality while undergoing the new Chinese-inspired design process, it could become the blueprint for how Audi builds its next generation of cars. In fact, Audi could even become the new king of the German giants.
