Audi's Facelifted Tesla Model Y Fighter Is Almost Ready

Winter testing is in full swing for several European automakers, and Audi is using the chilly weather to ensure its updated Q4 e-tron Sportback can handle the coolest of climates. New imagery captured by our spy photographers shows a development mule with far less camouflage than the last time the Tesla Model Y rival was caught in the wild, indicating that a reveal will be happening soon, and there's plenty to look forward to. The Q4 e-tron occupies the same segment as the Polestar 2, Volvo EX40, and Genesis GV60, to name a few, and Audi is making changes inside and out to give its smallest electric crossover a fighting chance. Let's take a closer look.

2027 Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback Gets Subtle Restyling

The prototype in these images is not completely devoid of camouflage, but only the headlights, taillights, and badges are obscured. At the front, the headlights retain the same shape as before but adopt new LED running light graphics. The changes to the bumper are just as slight, with the lower side intakes being mildly massaged and the lower central grille gaining hexagonal mesh. The middle of the front fascia, with its large Singleframe grille plate, is all but unchanged, with the four-ringed brand logo expected to become illuminated. The same applies to the rear end, where we see a slightly more aggressive diffuser panel and new taillight graphics.

Updated Interior and Improved Efficiency for 2027 Q4 e-tron

Although not evident in these spy shots, previous sightings confirm that the 2027 Q4 e-tron Sportback will get a revised cabin with a curved display for media and driver information, bringing it in line with the latest A5 sedan and other members of the Audi family, including the Q4's bigger Q6 sibling. As a result, the air conditioning vents will move from between the current Q4's two separate displays down to the middle of the lower dashboard. These changes are meant to make the vehicle's digital interface less cluttered, and we can expect some physical controls, but more comprehensive changes will only come later in the decade.

Performance updates will also be relatively minor, with more efficient motors, improved cell chemistry, and increased charging capacity for quicker replenishment of the battery. The 2026 Q4 Sportback 55 e-tron quattro offers an estimated EPA range of 251 miles, and the Q4 45 e-tron can do up to 288 miles. Since several rivals can now manage or exceed 300 miles, we expect the same of Audi's compact crossover. More details will become available soon, as the refreshed Q4 is likely to be launched in the middle of this year.
