BluePrint Engines Tech: Compression Testing The Right Way. Check Out The Simple Tools And Techniques You Need!

(0 reviews)

Doing a compression test on an engine is pretty straight forward, and only requires a couple of tools. And only one of those is a “specialty” tool, and you can either rent one from your local auto parts store, or buy them from Amazon and Harbor Freight for as little as $15. You can buy a great kit for between $25 and $50 and unless you are getting a compression AND leakdown tester kit in one, don’t go spending over $100 on a tool set like this. The truth about compression testing is that the number is not as important as making sure all the cylinders are close to each other. The number will change with camshafts and compression ratios, so focus on consistency.

Here’s a video from our friends at Blueprint Engines on how to test compression on your own engine.

Video Description:

In this technical guide from BluePrint Engines, we walk you through how to properly perform a compression test on your engine and explain what your results actually mean.

A compression test is one of the most important diagnostic procedures for identifying engine health issues such as worn piston rings, leaking valves, blown head gaskets, and cylinder sealing problems.

In this video, we cover the proper testing procedures, common mistakes to avoid, and how to interpret your compression readings accurately.

Whether you’re troubleshooting a misfire, diagnosing low power, or checking the health of a fresh build, this step-by-step tutorial will help you compression test your engine with confidence.
