Fast & Furious–Inspired Toyota GR Supra Heads to Auction

Part of the Toyota Supra’s status as an automotive cult icon doubtless comes from its starring role in 2001’s The Fast and the Furious, where a modified orange fourth-generation Supra is driven extensively by Brian O’Conner, portrayed by the late Paul Walker.

One of the franchise’s most recognisable cars, it’s spawned countless real-life replicas and tributes, most based on the same A80 generation as the star car. This one, though, is a little different – it’s a modern-day homage to the Fast and the Furious Supra, based on the reborn (and soon to die) BMW-powered GR Supra, and it could soon be yours.

One of 500

Going under the hammer at Mecum’s Glendale, Arizona sale on March 21, this is already quite a special GR Supra, even before you get to the raft of extensive modifications. That’s because it’s one of 500 2023 A91-MT Editions of the sports car, launched to celebrate the introduction of a manual transmission to the model after several years on sale in auto-only form.

Admittedly, this was only a visual package, and most of the changes it brought have been hidden away by the modifications the car’s had since, although the Hazelnut leather that was exclusive to the A91-MT for 2023 is still intact. Regardless, the fact it’s a one-of-500 special edition is one of the less remarkable things about this car.

A Movie Tribute and a Widebody Makeover

The car’s transformation began when it arrived at Calgary, Alberta-based tuning shop DRVN Society. As well as giving it a PPF wrap inspired by the livery seen on the movie-starring car, DRVN also fitted it with the other noticeable visual upgrade: an outrageous widebody kit from Japanese outfit Liberty Walk.

It’s not a purely visual makeover, either: the car’s also been fitted with an uprated turbo kit from TurboSystems and a billet intake manifold from CSF. No numbers are given, but it’s safe to say the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six is making more than the 382 HP and 368 LB-FT it left the factory with.

A Matching Pair

If you’re a real Fast and Furious ultrafan, then there’s a chance to pick up this modern tribute to Brian’s Supra alongside a more traditional homage to the original. DRVN also modified a 1993 A80 Supra Twin-Turbo into a direct replica of the movie car, complete with a host of upgrades of its own, and it too is going up for sale at the same auction.

There’s no estimate given for either, but it’s safe to assume that if you’re rocking up to Glendale next month with the aim of picking up this matching pair, you’d better have a fairly healthy bank balance.
