Polestar Pushes 6 Roadster Further Into the Future

From Niche to Relevance

Volvo, by all intents and purposes, has always been a niche brand. Despite being a major mass-market luxury brand, they seemed like a different flavor to most people. Even more so was the Polestar brand, which started life as Volvo's performance arm and later spun off to become an independent full EV maker.

2025 was Polestar's best year of sales so far, and the company's keen to keep it going, with many planned model releases in the coming years to drive volume sales. There's still a plan to introduce a two-door EV roadster, the Polestar 6, though it's facing a little hitch now.

Polestar For The Masses

Polestar's success in 2025 has given it the appetite to go for more in the coming years, including a wagon. The ambition is to reach 100,000 sales globally by introducing four new models between now and 2028. This strategy has yielded announcements for the launch of the Polestar 5, 4, 2, and 7.

As exciting as these cars are, the Polestar 6 has had people's attention since 2022. It was originally supposed to hit the showroom floors and our roads this year, but has been pushed back in favor of the other models mentioned above.

Speaking to AutoExpress, the company's Chief Executive, Michael Loscheller, said that the Polestar 6 roadster will be a small-volume model. He went on to say that they are targeting the high-profit potential segments but will continue to develop the 6 as a high-end product. So far, the timeline for the 6 has been pushed to 2029 at the earliest.

Untapped Market

There are already many high-performance EVs on the market. We have examples like the Teslas, the Ioniq Ns, and further up the flagpole are the Rimacs and many more. Interestingly, there aren't many EV roadsters available globally. The only pure-electric convertibles right now are the MG Cyberster, the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, and the next-generation Tesla Roadster (if it happens).

Not to mention that these cars aren't sold everywhere, so Polestar's plan to keep going with the 6 is sound; we just hope by then they'll still have space in the segment or market interest. Either way, any two-door car will always be welcome.
