Subaru Is Now Letting Owners Factory-Upgrade Their WRX and STI

Upgrade Service Takes Center Stage

When Subaru presented its lineup at the Tokyo Auto Salon, enthusiast reaction was mixed. Many expected a major STI announcement. Instead, the more consequential reveal was the expansion of the Subaru Upgrade Service. The program now includes factory-backed hardware retrofits for existing owners, including models from 2015 and earlier.

Just last week, Subaru opened pre-orders for three hardware packages first previewed at the show. These follow earlier software upgrades, such as the Active Damper e-Tune for the Levorg and the Sport Drive e-Tune for the BRZ. The new offerings are the Subaru Dynamic Motion Package, Subaru Comfort Quiet Package, and Subaru Ultrasuede Package.

Reservations run through March 31 via the official Subaru Upgrade Service site. Delivery and installation for pre-order customers are scheduled for April 2026.

Package Details

The Subaru Dynamic Motion Package is engineered for the Subaru Levorg, better known globally as the WRX Wagon. It replaces the front suspension lower arm with a pillow-ball bush design similar to the setup in the Subaru WRX S4. A revised curved tie rod end is also fitted. Subaru recalibrates fastening torque across the suspension to match the new components and correct vehicle posture. The result is a sharper cornering response with retained ride comfort. Pricing is ¥132,000, or approximately $862, including tax.

The Comfort Quiet Package, also for the WRX Wagon, adds vibration-damping and sound-absorbing materials to the doors, roof, and wheelhouses. Road and rain noise are reduced. Audio tuning is optimized for clearer cabin acoustics. Pricing is ¥80,300, or about $525.

The Ultrasuede Package extends to the previous-generation WRX Wagon, WRX S4, WRX STI, Forester, Impreza, and the XV, which is known in many markets, including the US, as the Crosstrek. It introduces Ultrasuede-wrapped steering wheels and shift knobs in dark navy or burgundy while retaining EyeSight and airbag functionality. Pricing converts to roughly $561 for the full set, $431 for the steering wheel alone, and $151 for the shift knob.

OEM Over Aftermarket

These upgrades are not inexpensive. However, they are developed, validated, and warranted by Subaru itself. They are engineered to integrate with factory safety systems and specific chassis codes. That distinguishes them from typical aftermarket solutions.

Strategically, this program pushes back against planned obsolescence. Instead of directing owners toward a new purchase, Subaru provides a structured way to refine and modernize existing vehicles. It supports long-term ownership and strengthens brand equity. The concept is sound. Now, the enthusiast community waits for one more thing: a true next-generation STI.

It's unclear whether the Subaru Upgrade Service will become available in the US. We certainly hope so, given the host of following the brand has stateside.
