This video couldn’t be more timely, as I had to put together a bed frame, four bar stools, and some lights in the last couple of days. All three used allen, or hex key, fasteners. Of course the hex keys in my Kobalt 1/4 inch drive ratchet set were SAE and all these things had “metric” fasteners, but I made it work. The trick was to use the ratchet and hex key socket to get them snug and then give them a bit more with the hex key that came in the box with the fasteners. In theory that should help with not stripping out fasteners. And it did with a couple of small exceptions.
But what if the fasteners you are using aren’t cheap, soft, furniture hardware? Instead of stripping the fastener, you might be stripping the edges off your tools.
