Mitsubishi and AT&T Partner to Bring 5G to the 2026 Outlander

Mitsubishi Motors is partnering with AT&T to bring next-generation 5G connectivity to its vehicles, beginning with the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander. The collaboration marks a major step in Mitsubishi’s strategy to enhance in-car technology and deliver a more connected driving experience.

Similar to AT&T's system in the 2026 Toyota RAV4, with built-in 5G capability, the 2026 Outlander will operate as a smart, software-driven SUV designed for seamless connectivity on the road.

At the heart of the partnership is Mitsubishi Connected Car Services, powered by AT&T’s secure 5G network. This integration delivers faster data speeds, lower latency, and improved reliability for drivers and passengers. The result is real-time navigation with precise traffic data, faster cloud-based voice responses, and uninterrupted streaming for passengers.

Smarter Vehicles with Real-Time Updates

Unlike earlier systems that relied on smartphone tethering, the Outlander’s 5G connection is embedded directly into the vehicle’s architecture, allowing features to run smoothly in the background while drivers stay focused on the road.

Beyond entertainment and navigation, 5G enables over-the-air (OTA) software updates, allowing Mitsubishi to remotely deliver new features, performance improvements, and security patches. This reduces the need for dealership visits and ensures vehicles remain current and protected over time. Owners benefit from an evolving vehicle that can adapt to changing technology and driving needs.

The collaboration also supports Mitsubishi’s broader digital strategy. Faster and more stable connectivity opens doors to enhanced driver assistance features and the rollout of new digital services after purchase. Mitsubishi says the goal is to create a personalized, always-connected ownership experience that reflects the expectations of today’s tech-savvy consumers.

Building the Foundation for Future Models

Bryan Arnett, Director of Digital Product Strategy at Mitsubishi Motors North America, said partnering with AT&T ensures the company’s connected car ambitions are supported by future-ready technology. AT&T, through its Connected Solutions division, continues to expand its automotive footprint by providing automakers with flexible, scalable connectivity solutions.

The 2026 Outlander marks Mitsubishi’s first step into its 5G future, with additional models expected to adopt the technology in the coming years. As vehicles evolve into mobile smart devices, Mitsubishi’s partnership with AT&T strengthens its position in the rapidly advancing connected car market. Still, questions remain about whether giving drivers the option to accept or decline over-the-air updates will ultimately benefit consumers.
