The New 2027 Volkswagen Atlas Will Come With Three Interior Screens 

What a Tease 

Volkswagen is – once again – teasing a photo of its 2027 Atlas. Set to debut at the 2026 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) in early April, more details of the new three-row SUV from VW have been sent to our inboxes. 

The 2027 Atlas was already teased once before, with a close-up of the LED taillights, and VW seems to be pretty fond of its LED setup with the Atlas for the North American market. We even got to see the prototype of the three-row SUV.

VW Really Likes Its Light Design 

Now, we’re seeing another set of lights, but this time in the interior. The highlight of this teaser is the dashboard and door card interior ambient lighting. The brand also states that the “2027 Volkswagen Atlas is more premium and more modern, yet unmistakably Atlas.” I’m not sure about “unmistakable,” but it seems like the new Atlas is going to be a nice place to be in at night. So, yet another “light show” from Volkswagen, and there will probably be more teasers incoming. What’s next, the headlights?

If you look at the photo closely, however, you might notice that the dashboard's ambient light looks like a screen – and that’s because it is. 

More About the New Atlas 

While Volkswagen North America can tease this all it wants, we already have a good idea of what the new three-row SUV will bring to the table, thanks to the Volkswagen Teramont Pro. A member of the global lineup of Volkswagen and on sale in China, the Teramont is a model premiered by SAIC-Volkswagen, and it has been making the rounds for about a year now. Historically, the now-outgoing Atlas was also based on this model, so it makes sense that the two models will remain related. 

Even down to the interior, the Teramont shares an uncanny resemblance to the Atlas teaser photo. Perhaps Volkswagen meant “Unmistakably [Teramont] Atlas,” in its press release?

With the Teramont serving as the base, we can expect the Atlas to be quite impressive. In China, the model features three displays in the dash, 30-color ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon sound system, a fragrance diffuser, and a front passenger seat with an electric footrest, as well as massage and ventilation functions.

Now, we’re at least certain that Volkswagen will offer the third display as an option or top-spec feature, along with the ambient lights, but we can’t say for sure whether the other features we just mentioned will be included. Our eyes aren’t that good, and VW just sent out one photo.

Apart from that, we were able to secure a bunch of spy shots of the new Atlas. The front-end grows more imposing while the rear taillights also get a big boost in presence, and the exterior follows the design direction of other updated VW models like the Tiguan and the Golf.

Under the Hood 

The Teramont is built on the MQB Evo platform. We’re fairly certain that the powertrain will consist of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder from the fifth-generation EA888 family of engines. The gasoline motor will be paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission, and variants with all-wheel drive come with VW’s 4Matic system. Power figures are unconfirmed, but the 2.0-liter sits at 268 hp, and torque may go as high as 295 lb-ft, depending on whether VW wants to try and best the outgoing model’s towing capacity of up to 5,000 lbs.

Anyway, we expect a few more teasers and details to be revealed at NYIAS, closer to the show, which starts on April 3, 2026, and runs until April 12, 2026.
