This GM Truck Plant Just Built Its 11 Millionth Vehicle—And It Went to an Employee

The Numbers Keep Climbing

General Motors continues to meet a large share of U.S. pickup truck demand, supported by its extensive domestic assembly network. One of its key facilities, Fort Wayne Assembly in Indiana, is now celebrating its 11 millionth vehicle produced – an example purchased by GM employee Ken Zawisa.

Fort Wayne Assembly primarily builds the light-duty versions of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. Both pickup trucks are due for a major overhaul for the 2027 model year, with reports suggesting production could begin in October 2026. For now, however, the plant is marking a notable milestone since its establishment in 1986.

The High-End Silverado

The 11 millionth vehicle is a black Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country, the flagship luxury-oriented trim, with the ZR2 serving as the more performance-focused alternative. While the report from Waynedale News didn't disclose the full specs, the model comes standard with features like 20-inch machined aluminum wheels, chrome accents, a 10-way power driver seat, a 13.4-inch touchscreen, and a Bose Premium Sound System.

Under the hood, a 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 is standard, while a more potent 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 is available with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. For buyers who need more low-end torque for applications like towing, a 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel is also offered, raising torque output to 495 lb-ft.

Speaking about the historic example, Zawisa said, “It was exciting to find out my truck was the 11 millionth vehicle. I’ve probably told 100 people that it is the milestone vehicle.” He added, “I’m proud as a GM employee that we’ve built this many awesome trucks. The employees at Fort Wayne Assembly are building something every day that is important to a lot of customers.”

Powering More Than Pickups

Indiana Governor Mike Braun also attended the celebration of the 11 millionth vehicle produced. Beyond building high-demand trucks for the U.S. market, the plant continues to support the state economy by providing jobs, employing more than 4,100 workers.

This development follows last month’s announcement that GM’s Flint Assembly, which builds heavy-duty versions of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, produced its 16 millionth vehicle. GM also remains America’s full-size pickup truck leader for the sixth consecutive year and has built the largest trucks sold in the U.S. for the second year in a row, beating rivals including Ford, Stellantis, and Toyota.
