I know several professional engine builders, and several who think they are professional engine builders. Make no mistake, I’m not even remotely claiming to be an engine builder, and that’s because I know real ones and it would be an insult to them to claim to be in their league. But in recent years, I’ve known several people who spent real money on race engines from big name companies and got a crappy product. To be fair, I’ve also known folks that spent real money with not so well known engine builders and have ended up with junk. It’s no wonder folks are always wondering who the right person is for the job when you are talking about spending your hard earned money.
I know that there are plenty of people out there who would love to have a custom engine built, but just aren’t sure about where to take their business. And unfortunately, sometimes you’ve just got to bite the bullet and spend the money.
In the video below, Mike Moran and the crew at Moran Motorsports are taking a customers engine and doing some diagnostics. Along the way they figure out why this engine is making less power than you would expect, and make changes to get the customer the power they need in an engine that will live.
Video Description:
A customer brought us an engine that had already been built by another shop, but something wasn’t right. The power numbers were way lower than expected, so we strapped it on the dyno to see what was really going on.
After seeing the disappointing results, the customer asked us to tear it down, go through everything, and rebuild it the right way. Once we fixed the issues and put it back together, it went back on the dyno… and the difference was massive.
The final result? 260 more horsepower than before.
This video shows the before-and-after dyno pulls, what we found inside the engine, and how proper machining, assembly, and tuning made a huge difference in performance.
If you’re into engine building, dyno testing, horsepower gains, and real performance results, this is one you don’t want to miss.
