The Toyota GR GT reportedly won’t follow the same ultra-limited production playbook as the Lexus LFA. In a report by The Drive, GR GT Project Manager Takashi Doi said Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda regrets capping LFA production at just 500 units, a decision that ultimately made the Lexus supercar “out of reach.”
With that in mind, the GR GT is expected to be more accessible to buyers, meaning production numbers and pricing will play a vital role in determining whether the project becomes a true success. Doi also noted that the team wants the upcoming Toyota halo supercar to be not only track-ready but also capable of passing on the joy of driving and the passion behind it to the next generation.

Supercar Dreams Without Supercar Scarcity
While the exact production figure remains unconfirmed, pricing for the in-development model is expected to exceed $200,000. That’s significantly lower than the LFA’s original $375,000 sticker, roughly $550,000 in today’s money. At that price point, Toyota could face serious competition, especially from one of today’s most respected benchmarks: the Porsche 911 GT3.
Toyota must also think carefully about how it positions the car, as exclusive flagship models often turn into money pits for automakers. The LFA itself was reportedly an unprofitable project despite its legendary status and lasting influence on the brand.
The GR GT will enter the market with a twin-turbocharged V8 hybrid engine and rear-wheel drive. Early estimates suggest it will make around 641 horsepower, though this figure could still change once the production model debuts around 2027. Additional highlights include an eight-speed automatic transmission and a dry-sump lubrication system.

Toyota also revealed a GT3-spec racing version, along with a Lexus-branded all-electric concept that hints at a possible future EV halo model.
For enthusiasts who may not secure an allocation for the GR GT, Toyota continues to offer several mass-market performance models under the Gazoo Racing (GR) lineup, including the GR86 and GR Supra – though the latter is scheduled to be discontinued in March 2026, with a final edition already released.
