A lot of what we do around here is based around working on trucks and SUVs. Because of that, you’d think that we all have the most immaculate personal garages and shops around. Well, this author is ashamed to admit that his own Fortress of Solitude was quite the train wreck. Like most garages, ours View the full article

Tom Major chopped the frame of the 2002 Dodge Dakota from the firewall forward and rebuilt it using 4×3-inch, 3/16-inch-thick box tube. This allowed him to get rid of the Dakota’s wide frame horns and also gave him space to mount the steering box he gleaned from a Ford Bronco, replacing the factory rack-and-pinion setup. Before the Ford F-150 Lightning, before the ten-cylinder Viper-powered Dodge Ram SRT-10, before the Chevrolet S-10 Xtreme, the turbocharged GMC Syclone pickup truck and mechanically similar GMC Typhoon SUV stormed the market. These all-wheel-drive pioneers brought performance, big horsepower, and sportscar-killing performance to the truck and SUV space long before doing so came into vogue. The GMCs View the full article

We are lovers of all things powerful. Really though, how could you not be? This rings especially true when a big engine is stuffed under the hood of a vehicle that really shouldn’t have one. Mid-size two-row SUVs have become our absolute favorite vehicles in this regard, and no one seems to do it better View the full article

“Custom awesomeness.” That’s how Todd Nonn described his ’12 Jeep Wrangler to us before participating in our 2019 Four Wheeler Overland Adventure East with his dad, Steve Nonn, and girlfriend, Beatrix Hartmann. Once we saw the Jeep in action off-road and camping, we could see that was indeed accurate description-ness. Buying a Jeep JK Todd View the full article

The Ford F-150 Raptor pickup feels like a long-running staple, but there have only been two of them. The original was introduced for 2010, and lasted through 2014 before being replaced by the second-generation model in 2017. Both are hugely upgraded F-150s with awesome suspension modifications, muscular flared fenders, and big-horsepower engines for bashing around View the full article

We’ve always been a fan of the underdog, the freaks, geeks, oddballs, and weirdos, and for some reason many very cool weird trucks and 4x4s have popped up in Moab for EJS over the past 10-15 years. Weird or different is good because, after all, you can’t break the mold of what anything is if View the full article

Jim Oldaker took a slightly different approach to building a monster truck when he started not with a heavy-duty, body-on-frame truck, but a ’72 Dodge Tradesman. So, you bought a Ford Explorer for four-wheeling and overlanding. Now you’re wondering: Was that a really bad idea to decide to build one? Yes. Well, no.
