ATMs (Linux vs Windows)

Oddly enough the majority of ATM's are all running the easy to hack Windows OS but there are some alternatives. Not sure why its so difficult to find more alternatives for ATM machines. It's pretty simple, Windows is crap and I wouldn't want something as serious as handling money transactions managed by a virus prone operating system.
