August 12, 201015 yr Moderators I have tinkered with Joomla, Wordpress and some of Drupal on a shared hosting facility but have the need to run the websites on a local intranet. I go with the most reliable system I can maintain which turns out to be my MacBook. Mac OS X comes with Apache and PHP but trying to tie all those together is a bit difficult for me so I stumbled onto XAMPP and MAMP. Not sure which one is better but I know if I go with MAMP I would need the PRO ($59) version so I could have the services start upon reboot or bootup.
July 7, 201411 yr Useful to know where the SQL database files are located in MAMP PRO on your Mac Harddrive in the event you need to restore from TimeMachine. The path you can find these files is: /Library/Application Support/living-e/MAMP PRO/db/mysql For the latest version of MAMP Pro (currently 1.8.1): /Library/Application Support/appsolute/living-e/MAMP PRO/db/mysql
