Polaris Government and Defense will continue supplying the Marine Corps with its advanced MRZR Alpha Ultra-Light Tactical Vehicle platform through a new five-year contract.
The U.S. Marine Corps has awarded Polaris Government and Defense a new sole-source contract valued at up to $98 million to continue production and delivery of the MRZR Alpha Ultra-Light Tactical Vehicle (ULTV), further strengthening Polaris’ long-standing role as a supplier of military off-road vehicles. The contract, awarded through the Program Acquisition Executive Marine Corps (PAE-MC), has an ordering period of up to five years and ensures continued support of one of the military’s most versatile mobility platforms.
While most off-road enthusiasts know Polaris for its RANGER, RZR, and XPEDITION vehicles, the company’s Government and Defense division has spent decades developing specialized off-road platforms for military customers around the world. The MRZR Alpha represents the latest evolution of that expertise, providing highly mobile transportation for infantry, reconnaissance, logistics, medical evacuation, and command-and-control operations.
Built for Rapid Deployment
The MRZR Alpha is designed to provide expeditionary forces with lightweight mobility in demanding environments. Engineered for enhanced payload capacity, exceptional off-road performance, and tactical transportability, the vehicle can be carried internally by both the MV-22 Osprey and CH-53 helicopter, allowing Marines to deploy rapidly into remote or contested areas.
This “fly-and-drive” capability has become increasingly important as the Marine Corps continues implementing its Force Design modernization strategy, which emphasizes distributed operations and rapidly deployable units capable of operating across large geographic areas.
According to Polaris, more than 500 MRZR Alpha vehicles are already in service with the Marine Corps, where they have been used in roles ranging from logistics support and infantry mobility to medical evacuation, communications support, counter-drone operations, and aircraft refueling.
New High-Power Variant Included
One of the most significant additions to the new contract is the inclusion of the MRZR Alpha 5kW exportable power variant.
The upgraded vehicle can provide up to 5 kilowatts of exportable electrical power while stationary or on the move, supporting increasingly power-hungry military systems such as communications equipment, tactical computing systems, air defense technologies, and forward operating power grids. The capability allows units to reduce reliance on separate generators while preserving cargo space for mission-critical equipment.
Importantly, Polaris says the power-generation capability does not compromise the vehicle’s primary mission, allowing it to continue transporting personnel, equipment, and medical litters while adding valuable electrical support capabilities.
Off-Road Expertise Meets Military Demands
The MRZR Alpha highlights how commercial off-road vehicle expertise can translate into military applications. Polaris has supplied military mobility solutions for more than two decades, leveraging its experience in designing durable off-road vehicles capable of operating in extreme terrain and harsh environments.
According to Polaris Government and Defense, the MRZR Alpha platform can be quickly configured for multiple mission requirements, allowing a single vehicle platform to support a wide range of operational roles while simplifying fleet logistics and maintenance.
The latest contract also includes continued engineering, technical, and logistics support from Polaris, ensuring the Marine Corps can continue adapting the platform to evolving operational requirements.
A Significant Win for Polaris
The award represents another major milestone for Polaris Government and Defense, which has become one of the leading suppliers of lightweight tactical vehicles to U.S. and allied military forces worldwide.
For off-road enthusiasts, the contract serves as another reminder of how the engineering and durability developed in the powersports industry continue to find applications far beyond recreational trail riding. The same emphasis on lightweight construction, maneuverability, reliability, and off-road capability that has made Polaris successful in the UTV market is helping support military mobility missions around the globe.
