  2. The Round of 8 cutoff race has historically been the wildest in all of the playoffs -- even more so than the title-decider. Drivers are willing to do just about anything to advance and we've seen it all over the past decade. Some prevailed, others did not, but each solidified their place in playoff history with their daring attempts to bend the odds to their will. For this piece, we're focusing ...Keep readingView the full article
  3. It’s no secret that the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing pit crew of Denny Hamlin’s car this season is in a slump. This was a crew leading the charts in individual and average pit stop time for the first quarter of the 2024 season. But as the playoffs approached, things seemingly started to fall apart, leaving the fate of Hamlin’s appearance in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship 4 round at Phoenix in ...Keep readingView the full article
  4. Let me start off by saying I 100% unequivocally despise social media ads. I hate how social networks have devolved into captive marketing platforms. I hate it. I really do. So when I say I got suckered into a social media ad and that I actually like the product, ugh. It pains me to have […]View the full article
  5. It would be all too easy for Armin Schwarz to pick the Toyota Celica GT-Four as his favourite car. After all, from a career that graced the World Rally Championship podium with four different manufacturers, it was in the Group A weapon that he claimed his only WRC victory in Catalunya in 1991.Yet the machine the German selects instead never won a WRC event. Finishing third on the Safari Rally in ...Keep readingView the full article

  9. Homestead-Miami Speedway was a microcosm of Kyle Larson's entire season. A fast car, shocking setbacks, unforced errors and remarkable comebacks -- and in the end, it was all for naught. A surprise cut tire put Larson in the wall and out of contention for the majority of Sunday's race. Just as he was making a little headway, the spun car of Chris Buescher forced him to come to a complete stop on ...Keep readingView the full article

  14. I’ve always been drawn to natural flora and fauna so it was an easy yes to admiring nature at Lankester Botanical Gardens on our Orosi Loop. The Jardin Botanico Lankester was founded in the 1940s when the British naturalist Charles Lankester expressed interest in the cultivation of epiphytic plants in Costa Rica. Although an amateur botanist, Charles dedicated his life to a private garden on his estate. The gardens flourished under his care and study and after his death, the importance of the garden became even more evident. The garden was donated to the University of Costa Rica in 1973 with the commitment that they would turn it into a botanical garden open to the public with support from the American Orchid Society and the Stanley Smith Horticultural Trust. Both my mom and Jim’s mom were avid gardeners and I wish they had been able to stroll the lush grounds with us enjoying a stunning display of exotic orchids but also a lovely Japanese garden complete with a replica tea house. My mom had a stunning rose garden and Jim’s mom toured gardens with us in several countries around the world. It’s been nearly a decade since we became nomadic and the one thing I miss from having a home is our extensive vegetable and flower cutting garden. A place such as Jardin Botanico Lankester is a bit like coming home. As you enjoy the gardens you move easily between the orchids, ferns, and palms. Further along the path are the bromeliads, heliconias, and even a small cactus display. There is even a spectacular bamboo forest. As if the stunning floral display wasn’t enough, we had a spectacular lunch on the grounds, experiencing our first-ever choripan; a delicious chorizo grilled and served on a toasted bun with freshly prepared chimichurri sauce all enjoyed on the grassy lawns. Enjoy this photo essay of some of the most spectacular floral displays we enjoyed and make sure to check it out if you find yourselves in the area. It is well worth the price of admission. Lankester Botanical Gardens – R4Q5+QWM, Cartago Province, Cartago, Costa Rica Open daily. Admission $10.00 USD for non-residents.
