The Electric Truck Reality Nobody Talks About Electric trucks have a fundamental problem that no one wants to admit out loud. Take a Rivian R1T out on the highway, for example, and you'll quickly discover why they remain controversial for long-haul work. Their heavy curb weight, brick-like aerodynamics, and power-hungry motors mean electric trucks are fighting a losing battle against physics. Even with Rivian's largest available battery pack and 420-mile EPA estimated range, real-world range hov

What Might Have Been Honda has produced many interesting concepts over the years. Of course, most don't actually reach production, but there are one or two from the past decade that we wish the Japanese automaker had made for real. The first is the properly compact Sports EV Concept, shown at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. We'd probably swap its electric powertrain for a compact hybrid, but we reckon it could've been a sweet little sports coupe. The other one is the Project 2&4 powered by RC213V

If you thought Pininfarina's recent reimagining of the original Honda NSX was too old-school, perhaps you'll like what another famous design house has created. Italdesign has taken the covers off its own NSX tribute at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon, and unlike the Pininfarina version, this isn't a restomod based on the original, first generation of the everyday supercar. Instead, it's a blend of old and new design cues draped over the body of the most recent NSX, and Italdesign, with Honda's blessin

The F-Pace Bows Out Jaguar has officially rolled the final F-Pace off its production line in Solihull, England. More significantly, the milestone marks Jaguar’s last internal-combustion model to be built as the brand prepares to transition to an all-electric future, even as more competitors across the industry scale back their EV ambitions. According to a report from the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club, the final example built was an F-Pace SVR, the range-topping performance variant of the luxury SUV.

British luxury brand Jaguar built its final combustion car in December last year, but it didn't necessarily have to be that way. In fact, the company had four new, next-generation cars in the pipeline before it decided to cancel all of them in favor of exclusively producing six-figure EVs. The revelation came through iconic former Jag designer Ian Callum, who worked for the automaker from 1999 to 2019 and was credited with evolving the brand from a company that made BMW and Mercedes alternatives

Despite reports to the contrary, Jaguar is sticking with an all-electric strategy, and it's making progress on the production version of the polarizing concept revealed in 2024. The concept was called the Type 00, and internally, the car bears the codename X900, but neither of these names will be used when the 1,000-horsepower luxury car is officially launched. What will that name be? We don't know yet, but according to a report from Autocar India, Jaguar will confirm the nomenclature of the pro

A Turnaround in the Making JaguarLand Rover has seemed off the pace in recent years, hit by a cyberattack that halted production last year and an all-electric transition that has proven challenging, particularly for Jaguar. But there are clearer signs of a turnaround, with the British government confirming £380 million (about $510 million) in support for Tata Group’s new battery factory in southwest England. According to Automotive News, the British government subsidy seeks to support electric v

JaguarLand Rover may be reconsidering how hard it can stick to an all electric roadmap, according to a report from The Times that says the company is exploring a new model concept that still uses gasoline. The report does not describe a traditional gas powered vehicle, instead it points to a range extended electric approach that keeps an engine on board to generate

Jaguar has issued a recall for over 16,000 I-Pace electric crossovers in the UK over a potential fire safety risk, sending owners into panic mode. In a notice issued to I-Pace customers, Jaguar said some of the EVs have experienced thermal overload in the battery, which “may present as smoke or fire.” Interestingly, while the UK’s Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) said over 26,000 vehicles built up to the end of 2021 model year are believed to be affected, Jaguar Land Rover said the fig

Jaguar's Road to Revival Jaguar has been known for its grace, space, and pace, while also constantly at risk of going out of existence. As good as most of its cars are, the British automaker just never made enough profit for true long-term survival. So, in an unprecedented move, it decided to axe all of its current cars and completely reboot its image. The 'Copy Nothing' reboot has received a mixed reception, to put it lightly. But the truth is, the previous formula just wasn't working anymore.

The Crown Jewel Test Drive Monaco is known as a small country with no personal income tax, making it a magnet for the ultra-wealthy. For car enthusiasts, it is also home to the Monaco Grand Prix, one of Formula 1’s most historic races. That is why Jaguar’s visit to the country to build hype for the Type 01 seems appropriate, especially as the upcoming model is touted as a car that will drive “like no other electric car.” For the uninitiated, the Type 01 will be Jaguar’s first car under its renew

Without any warning, Jaguar design boss Gerry McGovern has reportedly been abruptly fired in a shakeup said to have been instigated by the new CEO of parent company Tata Motors, PB Balaji. According to Autocar sources, McGovern was "escorted out of the office." McGovern was with JLR for 21 years, with his most recent work being overseeing the design of the polarizing and controversial Type 00 concept. As we've discussed before, this completely new approach to Jaguar styling (and marketing) has i

Close to Launch It won't be too long before Jaguar restarts production with its first-ever electric GT. First impressions had been made, and it's said to be a promising product. The yet-to-be-named model is crucial for Jaguar, and if it fails, we might as well wave goodbye to the British automaker for good. The car is expected to be revealed sometime this year. While there are a few details about it, its price is still a huge question mark. Now, a German publication has published its estimates,

Inching Closer to Reality A few months ago, select British press were able to experience the Jaguar GT for the first time. James Bond has always had impeccable taste in cars. In Ian Fleming’s novels, he drove a Bentley. The films made Aston Martin iconic. The 1970s flirted with Lotus, and the 1990s handed him the keys to BMW. What remained consistent wasn’t the badge; it was the idea that Bond always drove something aspirational, cutting-edge, and slightly ahead of its time. What it has never been, until now, is Chinese. BYD is changing that with the Denza Z9 GT, a high-performance luxury EV launching in Europe in A

The EV Holy Grail Is Getting Closer Solid-state batteries have long been positioned as the holy grail of electric vehicle technology. They promise dramatically higher energy density, faster charging, longer lifespan, and improved safety compared to today’s lithium-ion packs. For perspective, the original 2011 Nissan Leaf managed just 116 miles of real-world range. That was groundbreaking at the time. Today, the industry is chasing EVs capable of charging in minutes and lasting decades. Toyota ha

Kei Madness If there's one segment of the automotive world (though odd and quirky) that has captured the world's attention – yes, even President Donald Trump – it is the Japanese Kei Car. "Kei," meaning "light," cars have been built and sold since after the war as a means of offering affordable, practical mobility to a rebuilding Japan. It has then become a primary model for those who live in the cramped streets of Japan's metropolitan areas. Kei cars have generally been a curiosity for the res

The Return of a Gearhead Favorite “Leno’s Law” is being revived in California as a proposal to preserve car culture by allowing certain classic cars to skip smog checks. Previously filed as California Senate Bill 712, the proposal was shelved in September 2025, but supporters believe it now has a better chance of passing. Now dubbed California Senate Bill 1392, the proposal – sponsored by Senator Dave Cortese, Senator Shannon Grove, and car enthusiast Jay Leno – seeks to redefine a “collector mo

When Jay Leno has really nice things to say about a car, you know he’s saying it from the bottom of his heart and he’s being genuine about it. As the owner of one of the world’s finest car collections, the former talk show host knows his cars all too well and is always telling it like it is. It will come as no surprise then that Jay is full of praise for the 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X, having recently bought a fully loaded example for himself. We’ve seen Jay Leno drive all sorts of rare and exotic cars over the years, but the episodes that stand out the most are always those that feature unexpected vehicles, such as tractors, buses, semi trucks, fire engines, tanks, and even steam locomotives. You probably remember Jay Leno drove a pre-production version of the Tesla Semi Class 8 electric truck in October 2023 in a famous episode that saw the famous car collector and TV personality towing a trailer with another Tesla Semi on it. A Cadillac With an Italian Twist Normally, automakers tap coachbuilders to experiment with fresh styling, but that wasn’t the case with this Cadillac featured in the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage. Owner Lee Carr brought in his exceptionally rare 1953 Cadillac Series 62, one of only two examples ever built by Italian coachbuilder Ghia. In the early postwar years, Ghia was eager to rebuild momentum after its factory had been destroyed in a wartime air raid. Looking to broaden its presence be

A Once-in-a-Lifetime Skyline Gathering in the US Jay Leno’s Garage is no stranger to rare metal, but this episode lands differently. With legendary car photographer, Larry Chen, Jay walks through time examining one of the rarest assemblies of Nissan Skylines ever filmed in the United States. Seven generations are represented, from the earliest Nissan-badged models to the coveted R34 GT-R, all legally imported and all never sold new in America. That detail matters because these cars exist in the

Jay Leno’s Garage just gave viewers an early look at the Slate Truck, a low-cost electric pickup prototype that Slate says is designed to be repaired and customized by owners, not locked behind a dealer network. In the episode, Slate leaders Tisha Johnson and Jeremy Snyder outline a plan built around simplified manufacturing, modular upgrades, and a service model that leans on independent repair shops, with a target price under $30,000 and marketing that often frames the truck as a $25,000 EV.
