Hybrid Sales Are Soaring As $4.50 Gas Makes Americans Rethink New Cars
Frank Peiler made a big move back in March, trading in his old gas model for a new Mazda hybrid. His timing couldn’t have been better, he now says. With the Iran War sending fuel prices skyrocketing, the suburban Chicago retiree has driven more than 700 miles over the last month and still hasn’t had to fill up again. Honda Peiler is one among a fast-growing number of Americans buying hybrids these days. While all-electric models may have come unplugged since federal tax credits were phased out last September, demand for hybrids has reached record levels month after month – and sales could have gone even higher, several manufacturers told Autoblog, were it not for supply limitations. The good news is that more hybrid models are in the pipeline, even as automakers like Hyundai, Kia and Toyota ramp up production capacity. All Charged Up Toyota April wasn’t a particularly good month for the U.S. auto industry, overall sales down by roughly 7%, according to various analysts. But the results weren’t entirely downbeat, several brands managing to stay in positive territory. That included Honda which was up 1.6% for the month. The Japanese automaker benefited from strong demand for its hybrid models which set an all-time record. And it wasn’t alone. Kia sold nearly twice as many hybrids as it did a year ago, Last year, conventional hybrids accounted for around 12% of overall sales, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, or EIA. That rose to 12.7% in January, and 14.2% by the end of the first quarter, Sam Abuelsamid, lead analyst with Telemetry Research, told Autoblog. While several manufacturers, including General Motors and Nissan, report sales only quarterly, he and other analysts estimate hybrid sales were up another 10% in April. War Economy Photo by Grace Cary on Getty Images “The war is definitely having an impact” on the U.S. auto market, said Abuelsamid, contributing to an overall slowdown in sales – but leading those motorists still in the market to consider more fuel-efficient options. The higher fuel prices go, he and other analysts believe, the faster demand will grow. And fuel prices are clearly going up fast. On February 27, the day before the U.S. started bombing Tehran, the typical U.S. motorist paid just under $3 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com and AAA. As of midday May 8, the figure had topped $4.50 and some analysts warned it could soon break the all-time daily high of $5.034 set on June 16, 2022. “We sold our Tesla and switched to a 2026 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid about a month ago,” said Lee Morrell, a public relations consultant from Los Angeles. “Talk about timing.” For her part, Janet Eckhoff, a retiree living in Brevard, North Carolina, says she’s ready to make a similar move, “I’m not ready for electric,” she explained in a text, but “My next car will definitely be a hybrid.” Narrowing the gap There were several reasons potential buyers who spoke to Autoblog said they might hold back on buying a hybrid, the added cost being a key reason. The Kia Telluride Hybrid comes in about $2,700 over the gas model. But such numbers can bes misleading; hybrids often feature more standard gear. Even then, rising fuel prices mean the actual hybrid premium is narrower and can vanish rather quickly when considering the total cost of ownership. The average motorist clocks nearly 14,000 miles annually, according to federal data. At 35 mpg for the front-wheel-drive Telluride Hybrid, such a driver would burn 400 gallons annually. At $4.50 a gallon that would come to $1,800 a year. At 22 mpg for the comparable gas model, a motorist would spend $2,848.50 annually for 633 gallons of fuel. Thus, the hybrid owner would be solidly in the black in less than three years, even ignoring the added content their vehicle came with. Related: The “Selluride” Hybrid Is Kia’s Big Bet for 2027 If anything, Telluride carries a fairly significant hybrid premium. “The cost differential between hybrids and regular vehicles isn’t as great as it used to be,” said Stephanie Brinley, principal auto analyst with S&P Global Mobility. Indeed, the Ford Maverick’s hybrid package is its base option. Not Your Father’s Prius For those considering a hybrid there are other appealing factors. When the Toyota Prius first debuted a quarter century ago motorists looking for higher mileage typically had to sacrifice performance and features. That’s far less often the case today. The latest generation Prius now punches out 193 horsepower, up from 121 for the prior model, even while getting a 1 mpg improvement in fuel economy. (The plug-in hybrid, meanwhile, got a 77% increase in power, to 220 hp, while significantly increasing its all-electric range.) With a number of today’s models, like the Honda CR-V and Hyundai Santa Fe, the hybrid packages are not only the most fuel-efficient but also the most powerful. That was underscored by Honda’s decision to go with a hybrid-only package for the newly reborn Prelude. The only limit is availability Indeed, we’re starting to see more and more hybrid-only product lines, including not only Toyota’s Prius but the Crown Signia and the latest-generation Camry sedan. All told, excluding all-electric models like the bZ, 16 of Toyota’s 18 other U.S. models are available in hybridized form. For buyers, it clearly helps to have more choice, said Brinley. “There’s more availability, more vehicles offering hybrid options.” Toyota sold more than 4.3 million hybrids in the U.S., roughly 40% of its total. Other manufacturers are racing to catch up, including the Hyundai Motor Group and Honda. That said, “There are still some production constraints that could limit sales,” cautioned Brinley. Added analyst Abuelsamid, the industry was caught off-guard by the Iran War and the biggest challenge is now getting suppliers of critical hybrid components, such as batteries, motors and electronic control systems to ramp up their own production. “Our early indications are that consumers are interested in the hybrid,” said Stuart Countess, president & CEO of Kia Georgia. The company currently forecasts the Telluride Hybrid will account for anywhere from 55 to 58% of the SUV’s sales going forward. As a result, the Korean automaker has been working to ensure the West Point plant can quickly shift output however high demand goes, Countess said. Add it all up and analyst Abuelsamid said “it’s possible” hybrids could reach a 20% market share for all of 2026, though with current “production limitations…I’m expecting it will come in closer to 17 to 18%.” View the full article

Nissan Leaf Nismo May Force Buyers To Choose Between ProPilot and a Glass Roof
Fully Equipped Nismo LeafThe new-generation Nissan Leafwas just revealed last year, and it didn't take Nismo long to start working on an upgraded trim level that puts driving excitement front and center in the practical EV. Apparently, three trim levels will be made available: the B5, B7, and B7 with Recaros. All this early information was revealed by a Japanese source, Creative Trend, which has a knack for getting on-point information from dealers early. Apart from the three trim levels, all the options available for the Leaf Nismo have also been revealed. Not all of the following info has been confirmed, though, but we're hoping that Nissan, excited about revitalizing Nismo and reminding everyone of its pedigree, will have the courage to bring the Nismo Leaf in with all of its glory. Nissan Standard EquipmentBeing a Nismo-branded model, the new Leaf Nismo will come with a bunch of goodies from the Japanese performance sub-brand. Nismo exclusive front bumper corner finisher (with air guide function) Nismo exclusive front bumper lower finisher Nismo exclusive door side lower finisher Nismo exclusive rear bumper Nismo exclusive front and rear emblems Nismo exclusive back door spoiler Nismo exclusive LED rear fog lamps Power-folding remote-controlled black door mirrors with side turn signals, heater, door lock-linked folding function with Nismo exclusive red accent LED rear combination lamps Adaptive LED headlight system with auto leveling Center LED accent lamp Doror sash modling (dark satin finish) You can also expect some special Nismo touches throughout the cabin, such as a Nismo greeting on the 12.3-inch display, a black-and-red Nismo-themed interior, a steering wheel with a red center marker, carbon-fiber-like trim, and Nismo-specific body colors. For performance, you can expect Nismo-specific tuning for its steering, VDC, and a more dedicated sport suspension setup. No hints about power just yet, but we do wish that Nismo would amp up the power figures in the Leaf Nismo. Nissan Pick Your Package For its launch in July 2026, three exclusive variants of the Leaf Nismo are to be expected: the B5 (2WD), B7 (2WD), and B7 with Recaro sport seats (2WD). Customers will have to make a choice between two particular feature sets that aren't compatible with each other, and that is the Dimmable Panoramic Glass Roof (with head-shielding function) and Nissan ProPilot 2.0. On top of that, it appears that even the sunglass holder and the roof rails get the boot if the ProPilot 2.0 package is chosen. According to the source, ProPilot and the panoramic glass roof don't appear to be compatible on the new Leaf Nismo. Perhaps the same can also be said for the new non-Nismo variants as well. Customers will have to prioritize smart driving features, or a "better" driving experience, in this case, choose between "Set Option A" and "Set Option B." Set Option A Roof Rails Dimmable panoramic glass roof with heat shielding function Overhead console with sunglasses holder Accessory power outlets (AC100V/1,500W), one in the center console and one in the luggage compartment Set Option B ProPilot 2.0 Steering Wheel Switches for ProPilot 2.0 Double Shark Fin Antenna ProPilot Emergency Stop Assist System with SOS Call function Advanced Ambient Lighting ProPilot Remote Parking Intelligent Key with ProPilot Remote Parking function Standard Intelligent Key Nissan Which is Which? Based on our best guess, the B5 variants will be the base models, and the B7 variants will be the top dogs in the lineup. According to the source, Recaro seats can be fitted as an option on either variant, but for the top-spec Nismo B7 with Recaro sport seats, that option is automatically selected. Here's the equipment list for the most decked-out B5 and B7 variants: Nissan Leaf Nismo B5 Roof Rails Dimmable panoramic glass roof with heat-shielding function overhead console with sunglasses holder Accessory power outlets (AC100V/1,500W), one in the center console and one in the luggage compartment Charging cable with control box for 200V (7.5m) Nissan Leaf Nismo B7 ProPilot 2.0 Double Shar Fin Antenna ProPilot Emergency Stop Assist System wiht SOS Call function Advanced Ambient Lighting ProPilot Remote Parking Intelligent Key with ProPilot Remote Parking function Standard Intelligent Key Accessory power outlets (AC100V/1,500W), one in the center console and one in the luggage compartment Charging Cable with control box for 200V (7.5m) According to our Japanese source, the standard for all is the Cold Weather Package, which includes a Clear View Package and LED rear fog lamps. So the question is, would you rather have a panoramic sunroof or smart driving features? Why not both? Perhaps there isn't enough space to fit it all into the Leaf Nismo. Nissan View the full article

neos Grenadier Trailmaster X Arrives As A Hardcore Off-Roader Without The $200,000 Price
Serious Off-Roader That Can Double as a DailyIf you’re after the most extreme Ineos off-roader you can buy straight from the factory, the Grenadier Trailmaster X LeTech is the one to beat. In either Station Wagon or Quartermaster pickup form, it takes the already capable Grenadier and turns it into a machine that looks like it could cross continents without ever seeing asphalt. The biggest draw is the portal axle setup from German off-road specialist LeTech. Portal axles are rare these days, but they give you serious ground clearance and off-road capabilities. The problem? Price. At about €170,000, or around $200,000, the LeTech version is a dream for most. Fret not, as the British automaker has introduced a new Trailmaster X, and it’s built for people who want the hardcore Grenadier vibe without the sky-high price. You don’t get the wild portal axles, but you do get almost every off-road feature that actually matters, plus more comfort and premium touches for daily use. Ineos Automotive A More Premium Take on the Grenadier FormulaIneos says the Trailmaster X blends the rugged gear of the standard Trailmaster with the comfort upgrades of the Fieldmaster. The result? The brand’s most loaded Grenadier yet. Trailmaster X exclusives include 17-inch alloys, leather seats, heated fronts, a better sound system, carpet mats, privacy glass, safari windows, and a lockable storage box built into the spare wheel carrier. Under the nicer materials, you still get the off-road kit that defines the Grenadier. That means three locking differentials, a raised air intake, roof rails ready for accessories, a serious towing pack, water-resistant surfaces, utility rails, pre-wired electrics, and Recaro seats. Bottom line: it’s still a real off-roader, just easier to live with since it skips the portal axles. Ineos Automotive Far Lower PricingLike the rest of the Grenadier range, the Trailmaster X runs BMW’s 3.0-liter turbo inline-six. In Europe, customers can choose between gas and diesel, but Americans only get the gasoline-fed B58. Ineos says the Trailmaster X starts at £75,995, or about $103,000 at current exchange rates. That’s roughly half the price of the portal-axle version, but you still get most of the off-road gear that you’ll actually need. That said, if you’re in the market for a Grenadier that can handle real trails, the Trailmaster X would be a good bet with its relatively attainable sticker. Geely Just Entered Canada Without Using Its Own Name
The First Geely Cars In Canada... Sort ofIt's official, the Geely group has entered Canada, and not with its flagship name brand. If you didn't know, Lotus is now part of the Geely Group, and a batch of the new Lotus Eletre is on its way to Canadian showrooms. Thanks to an agreement between Canada and China to allow 49,000 China-built EVs to be imported annually at a 6.1% tariff rate. The move comes after the deterioration of U.S.-Canada relations. The Canadian government brokered a deal with China, lowering EV tariffs and allowing a certain number of cars into its borders. In exchange, Canadian products receive a more favorable trade policy. Right now, the U.S. is still adamant about letting Chinese cars into its borders. Tariffs and bans aren't making things easy for Chinese automakers to enter; however, they don't mean that they need to, at least for now. Plus, there are already Chinese-made cars in the United States, such as Buick, which has ties to SAIC Motor. Lotus Lotus Eletre Made in Geely's Wuhan Factory for the British sports car brand's electric crossover, the Lotus Eletre is a Chinese export to the rest of the world. In its country of origin, it retails for about $80,000, putting it squarely in the premium crossover category. It passed Canada's Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and is now on the way to dealers. It's really not a bad way to start. The Lotus Eletre is a five-door all-electric crossover that makes 603 horsepower in its base form and up to 905 horsepower in the top-of-the-line Eletre R variant. The WLTP range of this electric vehicle is about 373 miles, and it has a 350 kW DC charging rate. Pair that with air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and active roll control, and you have yourself a car that I guess still carries Lotus' ethos. Don't expect Elise-like lightness, however, because this electric crossover comes in at over 5,655 pounds, unladen. Currently, the Eletres bound for Canadian dealers are fully electric, but we expect Lotus Canada to launch the new 950-plus-horsepower plug-in hybrid Eletre when it's available. Lotus Not the LastWhile Lotus, under the Geely Group, is the most recent entrant, other Chinese automakers are set to enter Canada in the near future. That includes the likes of BYD and Chery. Both brands also have their own sub-brands that cater to different price points and customer profiles. In fact, in the same report, BYD and Chery units have already been spotted in Canadian parking lots. The Geely Group itself has other brands that might make the trip across the ocean. The likes of Lynk & Co, Zeekr, Volvo, and the Geely brand itself could go on sale soon. Right now, the Lotus brand's shipment is considered low-volume, but units will be distributed across the brand's six-dealer network, with up to six more locations to open in the coming months. Tesla Robotaxi Rival Under Investigation After 16 Accidents
Self-Driving Tech Under PressureWith autonomous vehicles advancing rapidly, robotaxi operations are expanding as well, with Tesla preparing its own push through the two-seat Cybercab. But as the sector remains in an early, transitional phase, crashes involving autonomous technology remain a concern. Avride, Inc. is now the latest company under scrutiny. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation into 16 crashes involving Avride, a U.S.-based company that has been developing autonomous technology since 2017. These incidents were recorded in Dallas and Austin, with some vehicles operating through Uber’s ride-hailing platform. Avride What NHTSA Says Went WrongAccording to the report, the automated vehicles involved in the crashes were operating with Avride’s automated driving system engaged. NHTSA pointed to alleged ADS failures, including changing lanes into the path of other vehicles, failing to properly respond to vehicles entering or occupying the lane ahead, and striking stationary objects partially obstructing the lane. These happened while under the supervision of an in-vehicle operator in the driver's seat. One alleged minor injury and property damage were reported as a result of the ADS-related issues. The investigation has been opened to evaluate the performance of the Avride ADS, including its technical capabilities, the potential risks it may pose to passengers and other road users, and its ability to perform dynamic driving tasks safely. Whatever the outcome, the investigation could prove significant for Avride’s position in the broader robotaxi sector, especially since the 16 recorded crashes raised concerns over traffic safety compliance. Many of the incidents were reported in Dallas, where the company has been operating since December 3, 2025. Avride Competition in the Robotaxi Sector Is IntensifyingTesla has also expanded its robotaxi operations in Texas, including recent additions in Dallas and Houston. It is worth noting, though, that Tesla is currently operating Model Y robotaxis while seeking approval for fully driverless Cybercab operations. For reference, the Cybercab was designed without a steering wheel or pedals, meaning Tesla would need full driverless approval for the vehicle to function as originally intended. While Tesla and Avride continue to deal with challenges in the robotaxi business, Waymo appears to be leading the U.S. market. Waymo currently deploys driverless Jaguar I-Pace EVs and plans to expand its fleet with new vehicles, including the Zeekr-built Ojai minivan. Chevrolet Trailblazer Driver Faces $2,000 Bill After Thief Steals Airbag
Airbags In The CrosshairsCar parts like the catalytic converter have long been common targets of theft. But in Detroit, airbags are increasingly being stolen, with 7 News Detroit reporting a recent case involving a brand-new Chevrolet Trailblazer. According to the owner, replacing the airbag costs $2,000, money that could have gone toward home renovations. Security camera footage showed the thief hanging through the window of another car parked next to the Trailblazer while trying to steal its airbag, which was taken in just seconds. Making matters worse, the owner said she did not use insurance because coverage in Detroit is “insane.” Chevrolet The Problem After The TheftFMVSS No. 208 sets federal occupant crash protection requirements for new vehicles, which modern passenger vehicles meet in part through airbags. A missing or stolen airbag does not automatically mean the vehicle cannot be driven, but it does pose a serious safety risk, making replacement strongly recommended. The owner told the news outlet, “That would’ve been two grand I could’ve used for renovations, so it’s hard.” So why do thieves steal airbags? Steve Dolunt, a retired Detroit police assistant chief, pointed to the “black market,” referring to the illegal trade of stolen parts outside legitimate repair and parts channels. The demand likely comes down to cost. If a proper airbag replacement can run around $2,000, a stolen airbag sold through the black market would likely be priced significantly lower. As for why certain GM models appear to be targeted, there is no public evidence explaining the trend. However, the sheer number of GM vehicles on U.S. roads could be a factor, especially in Detroit, where the company is headquartered. Chevrolet Familiar Targets For ThievesThis report also does not imply that GM vehicles are easier to steal or more vulnerable to theft. A report from Mercury Insurance found that Hyundai and Kia vehicles have had some of the highest theft rates in recent years. Common theft-prevention suggestions include installing visible anti-theft devices such as steering wheel locks or kill switches. The Trailblazer owner, meanwhile, spoke about starting a neighborhood watch program to help prevent similar incidents. She also had a message for the thieves, saying, “Detroit is a beautiful city, and I just wish you could help bring it back and rebuild it.” Chevrolet View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article View the full article

Hyundai EV Truck Platform Could Make Ford And Rivian Rethink Electric Pickups
The global race to electrify the pickup truck and SUV segments has hit a significant engineering hurdle - weight. While unibody electric platforms work for crossovers, the heavy-duty and off-road markets still demand the structural rigidity of a traditional ladder frame. Hyundai Motor Group just signaled its intent to dominate this space. As per a report by Korean Car Blog, Hyundai has filed a comprehensive new patent for a modular "body-on-frame" EV architecture - designed to support a new generation of rugged, long-range workhorses. Hyundai The Patent and the StrategyThe patent reveals a departure from the platform currently employed in Hyundai’s Ioniq lineup. The new design features a reinforced ladder frame where the battery pack is not merely a passenger but a structural component integrated into the frame rails. This "battery-in-frame" approach aims to maximize energy density while protecting the cells during extreme off-road articulation or heavy towing—tasks that can compromise the structural integrity of lighter unibody EVs. Hyundai Hyundai’s move into the body-on-frame sector is a direct response to the domestic truck wars. While Ford and GM have struggled with the massive weight of the F-150 Lightning and Silverado EV, Hyundai’s patent suggests a modularity that allows for different wheelbase lengths and battery capacities on the same assembly line. This aligns with recent industry trends where legacy automakers are reallocating billions to ensure their next-gen truck platforms can actually handle work-site demands without sacrificing range. If you are wondering what these Hyundais could look like, refer to Hyundai's Boulder concept, which made its debut at the 2026 New York International Auto Show. More than just a design study, the Boulder previews the exact, fully-boxed, body-on-frame architecture described in the recent patents, signaling a production-ready platform that will underpin a new midsize pickup and a dedicated off-road SUV by 2030. By moving away from the unibody constraints of the Santa Cruz. Autoblog (AI-generated image) American Market ImpactFor the American consumer, this patent is the clearest evidence yet that Hyundai is preparing to challenge the Ford F-150 and the upcoming Rivian R2 with a dedicated, high-capability pickup. By utilizing a ladder frame, Hyundai can target higher towing capacities and payload ratings that have so far eluded most passenger-focused EVs. Furthermore, the modular nature of the frame could lead to a rugged, three-row SUV—a direct competitor to the Jeep Recon and the electric Wagoneer S. The "all-EV by 2035" mandate may be cooling, but the engineering war for the American driveway is only getting started. Hyundai’s patent proves that the industry is no longer just trying to make EVs work; they are trying to make them work like trucks. For the consumer, the lesson is clear: don't settle for a repurposed car platform if you need a truck. The real, heavy-duty electric workhorses are finally on the drawing board. View the full article

Porsche Lawsuit Says An Oil Change Exposed A Dealer Repair Monopoly
Forced Back into the Dealer An antitrust class-action lawsuit was filed against Porsche, alleging an illegal monopoly in repair services. The plaintiff filed the lawsuit after hitting a software wall following a routine oil change on his Porsche from a third-party service provider. The class-action lawsuit, as reported by Car Complaints, alleges that vehicle owners are forced to return to Porsche dealers for repairs and maintenance. The design of the cars essentially locks them into obtaining repairs and maintenance at higher costs at Porsche dealerships instead of hiring a third-party or independent repair provider. Porsche The Affected Vehicles The affected vehicles are those sold by Porsche between January 1, 2021, and the present. The lawsuit stemmed from a software block that occurred after a routine oil change, so it's unclear whether the Cayenne Electric, Macan Electric, or Taycan models are to be counted. Basically, all Porsche sports cars and SUVs from MY2021 and up, and the kicker is that all of this started with a Cayenne, not a 911. According to the lawsuit, "all persons and entities in the United States who paid a Porsche-authorized dealer to perform repairs or maintenance services on Affected Vehicles.” The plaintiff states that Porsche designs vehicles so that only Porsche dealers can work on them. That means that diagnostic data, calibration, software, and other tools required to work on these cars are exclusive to the dealer. Apart from hand tools, dealers bust out laptops and tablets to communicate with the car's systems, ensure everything is in working order, and complete the job. Porsche "allegedly" conspired with dealerships to design its cars from the ground up to create this service and repair monopoly, which is unlawful and uncompetitive, according to the plaintiff, Fleet Savage Systems, who happens to own a Porsche Cayenne. Porsche Suing Over an Oil LightPer the plaintiff's account, Florida-based Fleet Savage Systems took the Cayenne to an independent repair facility in June 2025. On the job order was an oil change and an oil filter replacement. After getting all the fluids sorted, the independent mechanic said that he couldn't reset the oil life monitor due to restrictions set by Porsche. "Only Defendant [Porsche] and its dealers were able to 'clear the code' to reset the oil indicator. This resulted in an effective monopoly maintained by Defendants upon service and repairs, including oil changes, which Defendants perform at a far higher price than IRPs [independent repair providers]. Plaintiff was forced to pay a higher price for routine maintenance at one of Defendant’s co-conspirator Dealerships." – Fleet Salvage Systems, Inc. v. Porsche Cars North America, Inc. Because of the software wall the plaintiff had to contend with, a class action was filed, stating that Porsche had allegedly made it impossible for owners to contract independent repair businesses because they're unable to access the vehicles' systems. The class action also states that owners can save money by taking their service and repair outside the dealerships, and that Porsche has made that option unavailable to its consumers. According to the class action, Porsche dealers can maintain a 100% market share of repair and vehicle maintenance services and charge high prices. Porsche purportedly makes even more profit through parts and component sales. YouTube/@TheFrame View the full article

Hertz Shelby Mustang Mach-Es Look Tempting After $25,000 Price Drop
Shelby EV Loses ChargeSince the U.S. electric vehicle market shifted in 2025, the slowdown has become hard to ignore, and it appears to be reflected in the new prices for the Shelby Mustang Mach-E offered by rental company Hertz. A report from Carscoops shows that the special-edition Ford EV is now priced at around $40,000, about $25,000 less than when the performance-themed models were released in 2024. Hertz has long offered special-edition Mustangs through its “Rent-A-Racer” program, with the Mustang Mach-E becoming the latest entrant. The rental company released 100 units at a time when EVs appeared poised for continued growth, but by mid-2026, the vehicles had dropped significantly in value. Hertz Not Your Average Used EVOne of the early price drops was recorded in January 2025, when the Shelby Mustang Mach-Es — which come with extras such as gold stripes, a Borla Active Performance Exhaust Sound System, and special black wheels — were priced at $60,000. Most of the remaining examples have up to 15,000 miles on the odometer, though given that they were also rental cars, their condition can vary. Despite the race-ready look, the special-edition EVs do not come with a performance boost. Because they are based on the Mustang Mach-E GT, they feature an all-wheel-drive system delivering 480 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. The EPA-estimated range is also 280 miles. Whether those specs and mileage justify the roughly $40,000 asking price ultimately comes down to buyer preference. For those who prefer a brand-new unit straight from the showroom – albeit without the Hertz-exclusive touches – the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT starts at over $50,000. There is also a rally-inspired version available for roughly $4,000 more. Hertz EV Growth Hits ResistanceThe Ford Mustang Mach-E outsold the gas-powered Mustang in the U.S. over the past two years, but the momentum appears to be shifting back toward the pony car this year. That is not entirely surprising given the broader market slowdown that has made EVs harder to sell. In fact, the Blue Oval brand has even adjusted its F-150 Lightning plans toward a range-extended electric version. If this market trend continues, it would not be surprising to see the Hertz Shelby Mustang Mach-E depreciate even further, especially as the current administration shows less appetite for broadly supporting the EV market through incentives and policy backing. Ram 2500 Recall Warns Trucks Could Outrun Their Own Tires
High-Speed TroubleFollowing the recall of more than 6,000 Ram 2500 trucks over a steering-related issue that could compromise vehicle control, another safety campaign has emerged with a similar safety risk. This time, Stellantis is recalling 12,736 Ram 2500 trucks over a software calibration issue that could allow the vehicles to exceed their tires’ maximum speed rating, potentially compromising vehicle control without prior warning. NHTSA recall number 26V288 found that affected Ram 2500 trucks may have been built with a vehicle speed calibration that can exceed the tires’ maximum speed rating. The report states that exceeding the tire speed rating can reduce tire integrity, which could mean the tires may generate heat faster, wear more quickly, and potentially lead to instability or, worse, blowouts. Ram Big Pickup, Big StakesGiven the sheer size of the Ram 2500 – which competes against heavy-duty trucks like the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and Ford F-250 Super Duty – any loss of stability or tire failure at high speeds could have serious consequences. The affected units include 2023 to 2026 model-year trucks produced between June 21, 2022, and April 14, 2026, with NHTSA estimating a 100% defect rate. Stellantis is not aware of any customer assistance records, warranty claims, accidents, or injuries related to the issue. As part of the remedy, the automaker will conduct a voluntary safety recall to reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The recall report notes that similar vehicles not included in the recall population either use different tires, were built with the correct vehicle speed calibration, or were produced outside the suspect period. Ram 2500 owners can check their VIN starting May 14 to see if their truck is affected. Ram What Owners Need To KnowStellantis will begin notifying affected owners about the software-related issue on June 4, 2026. The report does not list a “Do Not Drive” or “Park Outside” advisory, though given the nature of the defect, owners may want to avoid high-speed driving until the PCM is reprogrammed. Despite the back-to-back recalls, they do not necessarily point to a broader reliability problem with the Ram 2500. However, for buyers who want added peace of mind, Ram is offering a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty on 2026 model-year trucks, including the 1500, 2500, and 3500. As always, buyers should review the fine print and check with their local dealer for full warranty details. Ram View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article View the full article

Tesla Builds Final Model S And Model X EVs After Historic 14-Year Run
Tesla has officially stopped production of the Model S sedan and Model X SUV, ending a great run for two of the most important EVs ever made. Before the cheaper Model 3 and Model Y arrived, the larger EVs set new standards for range and performance in the electric car segment. Crucially, they also served as major image builders for EVs at a time when they were still viewed as severely compromised and/or too alien in their design. Tesla shared the news on social media, complete with a picture of the final models built at its factory in Fremont. Here’s a look back at both vehicles. Related: Tesla Marks Final Model S and X Run With $159K Signature Editions Model S HistoryThe last Model S & the last Model X have been produced at Fremont Factory 14 years of history for Model S, 11 years for Model X 🫡 pic.twitter.com/5sSscIe1f3 — Tesla (@Tesla) May 10, 2026 The Model S sedan first went into production in 2012. Back then, you could buy a base model for approximately $60,000, and the version with a larger battery pack had 265 miles of range on a full charge, an excellent figure for the time. A Performance model with over 400 horsepower was particularly potent, but these early models all impressed with their eerily quiet interiors and a touchscreen-dominated dashboard that felt sent from the future; initial reviews of the sedan were glowing. Tesla also developed its own Supercharging network, making it more convenient to recharge its cars than was the case for other EVs. Tesla The sedan was enhanced throughout its lifetime. Autopilot arrived in 2014, the motors became more powerful and efficient, and there was more than one major styling update. The range of the sedan improved dramatically, with the 2026 model capable of 410 miles on a full charge. The Model S Plaid shocked the world with over 1,000 hp and a 0-60 time of 1.99 seconds under ideal conditions. Sales may have dried up over the last few years, but the Model S may just go down as the most influential electric car ever. Related: How The Model S Turned Tesla Into A Wake Up Call For The Industry Model X History Tesla As great as the Model S was, no automaker in the 2010s could hope to achieve domination without an SUV. The Model X arrived in 2015 as a three-row crossover, sharing around 30% of its components with the Model S. It’s a heavier, larger vehicle than the sedan, but far more practical since up to seven occupants could be accommodated. It also came with the distinctive Falcon Wing rear doors that opened upwards, just one of many features that positioned Tesla as an innovative tech giant. The heavier body and poorer aerodynamics of an SUV body limited the early Model X to a maximum range of 289 miles, as per the EPA, but this was still a brilliant result for a large electric SUV. No other automaker sold anything that rivaled the Model X’s blend of practicality, performance, and range. Tesla Like the Model S, Tesla steadily improved the Model X through the years, culminating in the heroic Plaid variant that could get to 60 in 2.5 seconds—it remains one of the quickest SUVs on the planet. The range increased to 352 miles for 2026, and it also features the available Full Self-Driving suite that allows for hands-free point-to-point driving. The first time anyone saw the original Model X parked with its back doors high up in the sky is hard to forget. It symbolized that, right at that moment, the sky was the limit for the automaker. Final Thoughts Tesla No replacements have been announced for the Model S and X as Tesla shifts focus to its robotics business. That leaves rivals like Lucid, Rivian, and Cadillac to dominate in the high-end EV segment. The legacy of the Model S and X is firmly intact, though. Around 750,000 combined units of these top Teslas have been sold, and they were pivotal in establishing EVs as a viable alternative to gas and hybrid cars. View the full article

Chevrolet Corvette Turns Its Biggest Weakness Into An Award-Winning Cabin
For decades, the Corvette's dirty little secret was its cabin. Earlier generations, the C5, C6, C7, drew real criticism for interiors that felt like an afterthought with scratchy plastics, cheap switchgear, and questionable ergonomics. That reputation is now, officially, dead. The 2026 Corvette ZR1X has earned a spot on the 2026 Wards 10 Best Interiors and UX list, beating out nearly two dozen other contenders to take one of the industry's more respected interior awards. For the 2026 model year, the entire Corvette lineup: Stingray, E-Ray, Z06, and ZR1, features this same thoroughly reimagined cabin. So, while the top-dog ZR1X won the trophy, the Stingray gets the same interior starting well under $70,000. Chevrolet View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article What Actually Changed Inside the 2026 CorvetteThe biggest headline from the 2026 refresh is the death of the "Great Wall of Buttons." Prior to the update, the C8 featured a host of physical controls forming a vertical spine separating the driver and passenger sides, a design that was divisive from the moment the mid-engine Corvette debuted. Exotic Car Trader It’s been simplified for 2026. Frequently-used climate controls are now in a row of physical buttons underneath the air vent below the screen, while stuff like heated and ventilated seat controls live in the touchscreen. The freed-up console space now houses a passenger grab handle, plus a new wireless charging pad and USB-C ports throughout. The cupholders got sorted, too. The retractable cover that came with earlier C8s is gone, replaced by two separate open cupholders featuring ambient lighting and aluminum trim. Ask any C8 owner how often they fumbled with that cover, and you’ll realize how big a deal that is. The screen setup grew considerably as well, with a new 12.7-inch center touchscreen, a 14-inch driver information center, and an all-new 6.6-inch auxiliary touchscreen. The whole package runs on an Android-based system with full Google integration. It all comes together to make the refreshed Corvette feel like a different car inside. What Wards Is Actually Looking For, and Who Else Made the ListWardsAuto evaluated 28 vehicles, focusing on models with new or significantly updated cabins, scoring them across aesthetics, comfort, materials, fit and finish, connectivity, displays and controls, driver assistance systems, and overall value. This year's results signal a clear industry course correction, a return to physical knobs and buttons for everyday tasks, paired with smarter screens, better voice control, and a push toward sustainable interior materials. So while touchscreens aren't disappearing yet, at least actual usability is being rewarded. This 260k-Mile Toyota Corolla Engine Died From a $1 Mistake
The 2ZR-FE Was One of the Good OnesToyota’s 2ZR-FE is generally known to be reliable. You’ll find it in the 2009-2013 Corolla and a handful of other Toyotas, quietly shrugging off missed oil changes, long commutes, and the kind of neglect that would sideline most. That said, high-mileage Corollas from this era are everywhere – unless one crosses paths with a botched repair. That’s exactly what happened here: a 260,000-mile engine showed up with connecting rods poking right through the block, as seen in a recent I Do Cars teardown. According to the driver, the car started losing power on the road, but instead of stopping, the driver floored it. The engine answered with a bang, but that wasn’t exactly the main culprit here. Oil Pressure ProblemsThe teardown began with removing the valve cover, which revealed sludge and metallic flakes in the oil. As expected, the oil filter was even worse, packed with metal shavings from chewed-up bearings. More importantly, with the chain, guides, and tensioners looking fresh, it was clear someone had just worked on the timing parts, but the way they were installed looked sketchy. The engine had excessive RTV sealant smeared across multiple areas, several bolts appeared incorrect or missing, and parts of the oiling system looked improperly assembled. As revealed in the teardown, the real culprit was the damaged/badly installed O-ring – a $1 part – near the oil filter housing. That tiny seal is what keeps oil pressure where it needs to be. Get it wrong, and oil leaks inside the engine, starving the bearings bit by bit. The more the teardown progressed, the more damage began to appear. One rod bearing appeared to have overheated due to a lack of oil, failed, and the rod tore through the block, spraying metal everywhere. When the engine finally came apart, the oil pan was full of metallic sludge instead of oil. I Do Cars/YouTube View the 5 images of this gallery on the original article Cheap Parts Causing Expensive ProblemsThis teardown isn’t really about Toyota reliability. It’s about how even tough engines like the 2ZR-FE can’t survive sloppy repairs. Miss a seal or get an oil passage wrong, and you’re asking for trouble. And if your car starts losing power or making strange noises, hoping it’ll fix itself is wishful thinking. For buyers shopping for an older, high-mileage used car, a pile of repair receipts is a good thing to have. But what really matters is how well the work was done. A new timing chain or a thick folder of service records doesn’t mean the job was done right, and in this case, unfortunately, it wasn’t. Tesla Vision Can Prepare Airbags Before A Crash Even Starts
A new software deployment for Tesla’s camera-based "Vision" system has achieved a significant and innovative safety feat. Tesla is now utilizing camera-based neural networks to predict collisions before they physically occur, allowing the vehicle to deploy safety restraints like airbags and seatbelt pretensioners milliseconds earlier than traditional impact sensors. Beyond SensorsHistorically, airbag deployment has relied on physical accelerometers and pressure sensors that trigger only after a collision has begun. While effective, this reactive approach loses critical milliseconds during the initial "crush" phase of an accident. By leveraging the external camera suite, Tesla’s latest OTA (Over-the-Air) update enables the vehicle to "see" an unavoidable collision and prepare the cabin environment before impact. This predictive capability targets a reduction in occupant injury by ensuring that seatbelts are correctly tensioned and airbags are at optimal pressure exactly as the impact forces reach the passenger cell. It is a significant departure from the industry’s current obsession with "glass cabins" and edge-to-edge displays, which many consumers and safety experts have criticized as expensive distractions rather than real innovation. Tesla AI Vision deploys airbags before impact, which greatly reduces risk of injury or death. This comes for free on all new cars. https://t.co/828FOgD2SI — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) May 9, 2026 Between the LinesThe deployment comes at a critical juncture for Tesla, which is currently under federal scrutiny regarding its "camera-only" approach to safety. The NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation recently opened a formal probe into 2.4 million Teslas following reports of Full Self-Driving (FSD) failures in low-visibility conditions. By successfully utilizing the same camera hardware for proactive crash mitigation, Tesla is attempting to prove that its vision-based architecture can provide safety benefits that traditional radar-equipped rivals cannot easily replicate. Tesla We are ImpressedFor the American motorist, this is a rare instance where the software-defined vehicle delivers a tangible automotive advantage rather than just another subscription service or promises of gas-money savings. While massive dashboards and digital assistants garner the most marketing attention, the real value of the high-speed processing is in innovation like this, considering autonomous driving is facing significant pushback. If predictive safety tech becomes the new industry standard, it could prove to be one of the single largest reductions in automotive fatalities. View the full article

Lamborghini Fenomeno Roadster Revealed with 1,065-HP V12 and Weird Side Windows
Lamborghini’s Exclusive Club Gets a New MemberAmong Lamborghini owners, there’s another level that exists above the usual limited-run specials. The company calls them “Few-Off” models – ultra-exclusive machines produced in tiny numbers and often reserved for the marque’s most loyal collectors. Think Reventón, Veneno, Centenario, and Sián. These are the cars that rarely appear outside concours lawns, climate-controlled garages, or at Monaco hotel entrances. Lamborghini just added another name to that list: the Fenomeno Roadster. It’s the open-top version of last year’s Fenomeno Coupe, and only 15 will exist worldwide. That makes it one of the rarest modern Lamborghinis right out of the gate. The Fenomeno Roadster broke cover at the Lamborghini Arena event in Imola. Underneath, it shares a platform with the Revuelto, but the bodywork is unique. Lamborghini points to influences from their racing prototypes, the Essenza SCV12, and even the Miura Roadster from the 1960s. Lamborghini Open-Top Drama With a Lot Going OnThe Fenomeno Roadster keeps the coupe’s dramatic stance, but Lamborghini had to rethink the aerodynamics without a roof (no, it’s not a convertible). There’s a subtle spoiler built into the windshield frame to direct air over the cabin and toward the engine. Out back, the speedster humps aren’t just for show – they hide the rollover protection system. The styling is as busy as you’d expect from a modern Lamborghini. Sharp intakes, deep side channels, exposed carbon, and hexagonal details fill every surface. Y-shaped lights stand out, and at the rear, a high-mounted hexagonal exhaust sits above a serious diffuser and an active rear wing. However, the windows definitely caught our eye. Just like the Veneno Roadster, the side glass drops low in the middle, giving the car a profile that’s equal parts fighter jet and concept sketch. It’s unusual, but it fits the Lamborghini playbook. The launch car wears a triple-tone finish: Blu Cepheus paint, exposed carbon fiber, and Rosso Mars accents. The red and blue are a nod to Bologna’s city colors. Inside, Lamborghini sticks to its 'Feel Like a Pilot' theme. Carbon fiber covers almost every surface. The switchgear looks straight out of an aircraft, and the digital displays use hexagonal graphics. The seats are heavily bolstered and finished in Corsatex and Carbon Skin. Lamborghini Likely a Seven-Figure Price TagUnder the hood is Lamborghini’s 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12, paired with three electric motors and an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Total output is 1,065 hp and 793 lb-ft of torque. That makes this the most powerful open-top Lamborghini to date. Performance numbers are as wild as you’d expect. Lamborghini says it’ll do 0-62 mph in 2.4 seconds, 0-124 mph in 6.8, and top out past 211 mph. There’s also a 7-kWh battery for short stints of electric-only driving. Underneath, the Roadster rides on a carbon-fiber monofuselage chassis borrowed from the Revuelto. It gets manually adjustable racing dampers and custom Bridgestone Potenza tires. If you want to take it to the track, semi-slicks are on the options list. Lamborghini hasn’t said what it’ll cost, but it should be well into seven figures before you add options. It’s also highly likely that every one of the 15 cars was likely spoken for before anyone saw it in public. Lamborghini View the 7 images of this gallery on the original article View the full article

Rolls-Royce Phantom Concept Artwork Will Blow Your Mind
The cabin of a Rolls-Royce is probably the finest place to be anywhere on four wheels, as the exquisite craftsmanship, luxury and the feel-good factor are very hard to replicate by other carmakers. But when Goodwood’s Bespoke division gets involved, things start to get really special, making the passengers feel like they’re in a rolling art gallery. The Bespoke Collective, Rolls-Royce’s elite team of designers, engineers and craftspeople, has introduced four new craft techniques inspired by the decorative arts that are impressive even for the very few who are accustomed to Rolls-Royce Bespoke artistry. On display at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars London, Mayfair, during London Craft Week (May 11-17), the four new craft techniques explore texture, material and depth influenced by art, haute couture, fine jewelry and architecture. Rolls-Royce They include the first-ever application of hand-sculpted 3D metal within a Rolls-Royce Gallery, the first showcase of a layered 3D veneer that integrates brass elements, 3D leather sculpting applied by hand to create realistic form, and beadwork application. To showcase the potential of these innovations, Rolls-Royce artisans built two concept pieces at the scale of a Phantom Gallery, which is the name of the uninterrupted glass-covered dashboard panel that protects and displays artwork inside the super luxury sedan. Both works of combine hand and machine craftsmanship, with the latter including laser cutting, waterjet shaping and digital pattern drafting that are used to achieve shapes that no hand could repeat with the same accuracy. Those are followed up by hand-engraving, hand-painting, hand-embroidery and hand-sculpting to give the work its individual character. There's No Way Those Pomegranates Are Not Real Rolls-Royce Perhaps the most impressive of the two is the one called 'Legacy Craft: Inspired by Still Life,' which draws inspiration from the ‘nature morte’ paintings of the 17th-century Dutch Golden Age and the embroidery traditions revived by the Arts and Crafts movement. Rolls-Royce’s Interior Trim Centre artisans composed a still-life arrangement of fruit and flowers in a three-dimensional form using a stunning combination of materials, textures and contemporary craft techniques. The concept artwork debuts the first application of 3D leather sculpting and beadwork, with the hydrangeas being constructed from 50 individual flowers, each hand-sculpted from leather and painted by hand. Their leaves are formed entirely from thread using a newly developed style called Sphinx Moth 3D embroidery. The pomegranates are embroidered using the alternate stitch technique, with the 76 jewel-like beads being individually hand-sewn to form the seeds that replicate the ruby translucence of the real fruit. This concept piece took more than 250 hours of handwork to complete. 'Legacy Craft: Inspired by The Draught’ Rolls-Royce The second concept piece is called 'Legacy Craft: Inspired by The Draught’ and brings together 3D metal hand-sculpting and layered 3D veneer with brass elements. Created by specialists from Rolls-Royce’s Interior Surface Centre as a piece of fine jewelry, it uses four historical techniques. Those include the draught (the technical drawing a craftsman uses to guide architectural work), scribing (the act of marking a surface to guide cutting and carving), strapwork (the interlaced, band-like motif of Elizabethan and Jacobean ornament), and ferramenta (the ironwork support grid used to retain stained glass). Rolls-Royce The 3D veneer uses multiple layers of laser-cut wood finished with bass inserts that catch the light like fine jewelry. The concept piece culminates in a three-dimensional, jewelry-like flower, formed from five layers of brass, each cut into petal shapes using an advanced waterjet. This detail alone took over 45 hours to complete. The left side of the Gallery also features 3D marquetry and a delicate brass lattice applied over the veneer and completed with subtle laser engraving for added texture. "The concepts we present here are a playful expression of our craftspeople’s creative spirit. They show how hand and machine can work in concert, how a 17th-century still life or a Jacobean strapwork motif can become a modern sculptural form, and how Rolls-Royce is both a custodian and an accelerator of rare craft skills,” said Phil Fabre de la Grange, Head of Bespoke, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Expect to see this type of artistry in highly customized Rolls-Royce Phantoms costing obscene sums of money soon. Rolls-Royce View the full article

GM Says Its Safety Tech Can Cut Some Crashes By Up To 86%
Becoming Rolling Safety ComputersAs newer cars come with smarter features as standard, it can sometimes feel like automakers are forcing extra tech onto buyers. One of those is advanced driver-assistance systems, though General Motors argues that the technology can significantly reduce crashes and injuries – and it backed the claim with data. In a study conducted with the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI), GM found that advanced driver-assistance systems helped reduce certain crash types by as much as 86%. That is a significant figure, especially since crashes not only cause injuries but can also become expensive and time-consuming headaches involving insurance claims, police reports, and repair work. Buick The Numbers Behind The Safety ClaimsThe 86% reduction applies specifically to backing crashes. GM also found a 57% drop in rear-end crashes with injuries and a 35% reduction in front pedestrian crashes with injuries. Lane-assist features were linked to a 15% decrease in road-departure crashes and a 13% drop in lane-change crashes. These reductions were tied to features such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist, and Lane Change Alert. These findings were based on roughly 700,000 police-reported crashes matched with approximately 12 million GM vehicles from the 2020 to 2024 model years across 18 states. But perhaps the most encouraging takeaway from the study is that buyers do not need to spend a fortune to benefit from these crash-reducing features. Models under $30,000 – including the Buick Encore GX and Envista, as well as the Chevrolet Trax, Trailblazer, and Bolt – come standard with Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, and IntelliBeam. Cole Attisha GM Bets On Smarter SafetyMeanwhile, other GM models are available with Super Cruise, the company’s hands-free driving system. What some may appreciate is that the feature is subscription-based, meaning buyers who prefer taking the wheel themselves do not have to keep paying for the service after the trial period. In the future, advanced driver-assist technologies will likely become even more sophisticated as the IIHS tightens its crash-avoidance system requirements. That could push automakers to allocate more resources toward improving these systems to qualify for Top Safety Pick+ honors. How that affects pricing remains to be seen, though GM’s study makes a stronger case that the added safety could be worth the cost. Czinger 21C VMax Turns 1,250 HP Into A Color-Shifting Purple Hypercar
American hypercars are rare, especially ones that manage to combine outrageous performance with a jaw-dropping design. California-based Czinger Vehicles is one of the few American companies successfully taking the fight to Europe’s elite. Based on the standard Czinger 12C, this one-off VMax variant delivered through Prestige Imports in Miami may be its most stunning creation yet. Finished in a dramatic shade called “Royal Venom,” the hypercar looks like a spaceship that belongs in an art museum. Royal Venom Steals The Spotlight Instagram: @prestigeimports and @czingermiami Instagram: @prestigeimports and @czingermiami Instagram: @prestigeimports and @czingermiami Instagram: @prestigeimports and @czingermiami Created as part of Czinger’s Liquid Series, Royal Venom is a deep pearlescent purple that constantly changes character depending on the lighting. Under direct sunlight, the finish glows with bright metallic highlights, while shadows reveal a darker and richer tone. The shifting effect gives the 21C VMax an almost liquid appearance. Unlike many modern hypercars that drown themselves in exposed carbon fiber, this build lets the paint do most of the talking. The front splitter, rear diffuser, and pieces inside the engine bay are all finished in matching purple. Satin champagne-gold anodized accents contrast the purple finish perfectly, appearing on the two-piece carbon-fiber wheels, Czinger badges, and even the 3D-printed Bio-Logic suspension components. The 21C uses a tandem seating layout that positions the passenger directly behind the driver, similar to a fighter jet cockpit. Purple upholstery, white leather accents, exposed carbon fiber, champagne anodized trim, and matching purple seat backs carry the exterior’s bold personality into the cabin. The 21C and 21C VMax start at $2.36 million, but being the only example finished in Royal Venom, and the only model to flaunt gold anodized pieces, we reckon its price tag should sit closer to $3 million, if not more. With just 80 examples planned globally, it already sits among the rarest American performance cars ever built. It's engineered to dominate on track. Power comes from a hybrid-assisted 2.88-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing up to 1,250 hp, sent to all four wheels. Czinger claims a 0-60 mph sprint of just 1.9 seconds, placing the VMax among the quickest production cars on the planet. The company is also targeting the Nürburgring record for an American vehicle, putting it directly in the crosshairs of rivals like the Ford Mustang GTD and Chevy Corvette ZR1. Mansory Azura Beats Mercedes To An 820-HP G-Class Cabrio
Mansory Doing Mansory ThingsTo say that Mansory creations are polarizing is an understatement. Some see the German tuner’s work as the height of exclusivity, while others wonder how a standard car ended up looking like it was designed with no restrictions in mind. Every so often, Mansory shows a bit of restraint – like with its recent Porsche 911 Turbo S softkit, which was unexpectedly subtle. Most of the time, though, the company goes all-in on visual drama, and the new Mansory Azura is a clear example. Mansory View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Those ColorsThe Azura starts with the current Mercedes-Benz G-Class (W465) and reimagines it as a luxury beach cruiser. It wears bright turquoise paint, oversized aero-disc wheels, forged carbon trim, and a generous amount of LED lighting. The biggest change is the bodywork. Mansory turned the G-Class into a two-door convertible with rear-hinged doors, requiring extensive rework of the structure and exterior panels. Surprisingly, the result is more cohesive than you might expect. The open roof softens the G-Wagen’s usual military look, giving it a relaxed, almost yacht-like presence. Mansory More Power Than Any Convertible SUV Probably NeedsUnder the hood, Mansory starts with the familiar Mercedes-AMG 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, but upgrades it with larger turbos, new engine management, and a high-flow exhaust with redesigned downpipes. The upgrades bring output to 820 horsepower and 848 lb-ft of torque, a big jump from the standard AMG G 63’s 585 hp and 627 lb-ft. Mansory says the Azura will do 0 to 62 mph in 4.0 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 155 mph. Inside, most surfaces are finished in turquoise leather, with forged carbon accents that include turquoise flakes. Buyers can customize almost every detail, from stitching and leather types to color choices and carbon finishes. The rear seats are now a pair of individual chairs, separated by a custom center console for added comfort. Mansory Mercedes Is Already Working on the Real ThingMansory’s timing is notable, as Mercedes-Benz is also working on its own official G-Class Cabriolet. The automaker previewed its open-top G-Class last year, with camouflaged prototypes seen testing in Austria and Sweden. Reports suggest the production AMG G 63 Cabriolet will arrive around 2028, using the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 as the standard model. Unlike the Azura, the factory version is expected to keep four doors and a more understated design, though pricing will likely remain above $200,000. Mansory hasn’t shared pricing for the Azura, which usually means it’s aimed at buyers who aren’t concerned about the cost. Each build is unique, following the company’s 'One of One' approach. Volvo Calls Out Carmakers Charging Monthly Fees For Heated Seats
Volvo is inching closer to the launch of the EX60, and alongside the rollout of the new electric SUV, the Swedish automaker has been making the media rounds. In an interview with Motor1, Volvo’s Chief Commercial Officer, Eric Severinson, shared the company’s stance on subscription-based car features. Severinson criticized the idea of charging monthly fees for basic functions like heated seats, saying luxury brands "shouldn’t nickel-and-dime customers" after they have already spent tens of thousands on a premium vehicle. Why Carmakers Love Subscriptions Volvo Money makes the world go around, and the autosphere is no exception. Subscription services have become increasingly common as automakers look for new ways to generate recurring revenue beyond traditional vehicle sales. In fact, GM thinks subscription services could eventually generate more revenue than selling cars. BMW faced heavy criticism after introducing heated seat subscriptions back in 2022, but have since admitted it was a mistake. From the manufacturers’ perspective, these systems allow for a more streamlined production process, since every vehicle could leave the factory with the same hardware installed. Subscriptions would essentially serve as a paywall to unlock features already installed on your car.
