  2. THE WES BUCK SHOW – EPISODE 425 “SMALL TIRE STORMS & SOUTHERN CHAOS” SOME PEOPLE SEE BAD WEATHER. WE SEE BOOST WEATHER. This week on The Wes Buck Show, we’re diving headfirst into one of the rowdiest weekends on the outlaw racing calendar as we get ready for the 9th Annual Strange Engineering Ronnie Buff Memorial and the always wild King of the South showdown. Joining us are two guys who live in the middle of the madness, Michael Poland and Corey Stamper. And if you know these two, you already know this conversation could go absolutely anywhere. We’re talking small tire wars. Outlaw racing. Big personalities. Big money. Big opinions. And yeah, maybe a little weather drama too, because it looks like Mother Nature might have some thoughts about this weekend all across the East Coast. But around here? We stay glass half full. Racers race. Promoters promote. And somehow these outlaw guys always seem to find a way to make it happen. We’re gonna break down the event, the classes, the storylines, the chaos, and probably stir the pot a little bit while we’re at it. One thing’s for sure. This one is gonna be loud. LET’S GET IT. Each week on The Wes Buck Show, Wes Buck, JT “Murder T” Hudson, and Mike Carpenter bring their unique insights and analysis to the most electrifying moments and storylines from a packed weekend of drag racing. 5. Overland Expo West is the largest overlanding event in the world, and it’s absolutely loaded with rigs of make, model, and vintage that you could ever expect. The attendees and exhibitors brought their A-game, giving us a huge array to choose from. Not only did we spot some incredible customization, but we got to check out three epic vehicles that debuted at the show. While it’s impossible to rank the rigs we saw this weekend, here are “some” of the best rigs of Overland Expo West, presented in no particular order. Toyota’s Trail Ready 4Runner Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe A couple of years ago, the sixth-generation Toyota 4Runner made its debut right here in Flagstaff at Overland Expo. Now we’re seeing some great builds based on the latest version of this legendary Toyota platform. This particular example was on display in the Toyota booth and kitted out with gear from the Associated Accessory Products (AAP) program. AAP is a great way to build out a new Toyota straight from the dealership, and this 4Runner is ready to hit the trail. Storyteller Overland Grand Bohemian Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Wait. A legendary van and adventure rig builder partnered with some awesome component and gear manufacturers to make a rig based on one of the most popular new vehicle platforms in recent years? Yes, yes, they did, and they came up with an epic name. Enter the Storyteller Overland Grenadier Grand Bohemian. Rocking an Alu-Cab roof conversion and rolling on an EVICTUS Prerunner Suspension, the Grand Bohemian is ready to take two travelers just about anywhere, and it does it in style. With a leather interior, SeaDek Flooring, a hardwood butcher block counter top, and dimmable lights, this build offers a level of comfort and refinement rarely found in campers/conversions of this size. Of course, it also offers the capability and style of the INEOS Grenadier that has become popular since the model’s debut. American Expedition Vehicles FXL Super Duty Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe AEV is known for raising the bar with their packages available on a variety of rigs straight from the dealership, and now they’ve partnered with Ford to build the most capable Super Duty you can imagine. The FXL is truly a sight to behold. Featuring stamped steel front bumpers, AEV’s HighMark Fender Flares, a 4-inch DualSport XP Suspension, Bilstein shocks, 40-inch BFGoodrich HD-Terrain KT Tires, and much more, you’d be hard-pressed to imagine a more capable Super Duty, and you can get this one direct from your local Ford Dealer. We can’t wait to see the rigs that develop as the FXLs begin to roll off the lot. Rebelle Rally 2025 Subaru Forester Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe We love a rig with a story, and Carey Lando’s 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid can definitely share some tales around the campfire. Carey and teammate Andrea Shaffer brought home five stage wins and a podium finish at the Rebelle Rally in this suped-up Subie. Carey has outfitted the Forester with a RalliTEK suspension paired with custom links for a 3-inch lift, RaceWorks Coilovers, a Sherpa Roof Rack for storing MaxTrax and other recovery tools, Milestar Patagonia AT Pro tires, LP Adventure Wheels, ADF Full Skid Plates, Diode Dynamic Lights, and a Torq Masters Rear Locking Differential. In terms of adventure wagons, this is a dream rig, and given its track record at the Rebelle Rally, it can undoubtedly put down the miles with ease. Four Wheel Camper-equipped 1997 OBS F250 Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe We loved a good pairing of a nice vintage rig, and modern equipment, and that’s exactly what Adam brought to Overland Expo West. With an original engine, this Ford is a testament to the legendary durability of the 7.3. Adam upgraded to 2005 Super Duty axles, long travel rear suspension, a front ICON suspension, and it’s rolling on 35s. Top that all off with a 2025 FWC Hawk camper and you’ve got a capable and dependable rig that’s an absolute classic. Winnebago ARKA Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Overland Expo West has seen some great vehicle debuts over the years, and Winnebago continued this tradition with the reveal of their new ARKA. Built on the RAM 5500 chassis, the ARKA sports an impressive 15,000 lb. towing capacity, hydronic heating, heated floors, 15kWh of lithium battery capacity, aluminum cabinets, modular sleep options, a dinette, and a full-height gear garage. The ARKA is insulated to stay comfortable in the incredible temperature range of -10 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit, so it’s truly ready for anything in the backcountry. READ MORE: Overland Expo West 2026 Recap Goose Gear/Long Range America 1991 Nissan Patrol Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe We see some unique rigs at every Overland Expo, and we think it’s safe to say there weren’t many long wheelbase Nissan Patrols at West this year, and if that doesn’t seem like a sure thing, this was definitely the only one with a Mercedes diesel swap. This truck got a frame-off restoration for a fresh start, and from there it’s outfitted with Long Range America fuel tanks, Cruiser Company bumpers, a full Goose Gear interior, an Alu-Cab rooftop tent, SCS wheels, Toyo RT Pros, and trail armor. These Patrols are legendary off-road rigs, but we rarely see them in the States. Hopefully, more people will start importing them so we can see more awesome Patrol builds in the future. Classic Overland “Warthog” 2000 D90 Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Classic Overland is known for next-level Land Rover builds that range from luxury packages to full safari service vehicles, but this 2000 Defender in their booth was a bit different. Instead of a full-on frame-off restoration like some other CO builds, this Defender is a part of their Warthog line. That means it has received a body-on-frame refurbish, and all of the hoses, clamps, seals, etc., have been replaced. The Warthog line of build is meant to be daily drivers that retain the original spirit of these vintage Rovers while providing a few updates. This truck, like all of Classic Overland’s builds, includes the Passport to Service Plan, which covers repairs and replacements as long as the service of the truck is tracked. For a daily driver or a compact trail truck, this Defender provides a lot of style, and knowing it’s backed by Classic Overland gives us the confidence to say it would serve the new owner for years to come. Field Van’s FAV Let’s start with a new rig from the adventure van experts at Field Van. This new model was wrapped up just days before the event kicked off, and we can’t wait to see future builds based on it. The Field Adventure Vehicle, FAV, is based on the E350 platform featuring a Dana 70 full-floating rear axle, an Atlas 2 transfer case, upgraded brakes, and heavy suspension components. Paired with the dependable E350 is a great living space that provides a stand up shower, vertical walls, air conditioning, 1,000 amp-hours of power, and plenty of living space. As much as the FAV provides, it still retains the trail-ready approach and departure angles of other Field Van builds. The FAV is so new that it hasn’t yet been built out, but we can’t wait to see what the Field Van team comes up with as they develop this new option for their already awesome lineup. Firebox Vintage Ford with Hot Tent Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe The DIY and Creator Areas at Overland Expo always provide some great rigs, and this held true at Overland Expo West 2026. Steve DeSpain of Firebox Stoves brought his 1966 Ford pickup outfitted with a custom pop-up canvas tent. Outside of a lift kit, this truck is fairly stock, but the fully custom-built tent is packed with so many features that this rig is anything but boring. Inside, you’ll find a stowable woodstove to keep the tent toasty on mountain adventures, and Steve has developed a convertible sleeping platform that includes a table, seating, a lantern hanger, slots for his stairs, and more. Steve does tons of trips on his YouTube channel with this great vintage rig. 2026 Honda Passport HRC Concept Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe My college roommate drove a 2000 Honda Passport, and over the years, that trusty adventure rig took our group of friends on plenty of camping and off-road adventures. That’s half of the reason why I couldn’t be more excited that Honda Racing Corporation USA brought this awesome build out to Overland Expo West. The stock Passport Trailsport is plenty capable, but this concept adds improved approach and departure angles, extended skids, 60mm of suspension lift paired with larger all-terrain tires, improved rock sliders, on-board air, a winch, off-road lights, and a swingout tire carrier for bringing along a full-size spare. This build serves as a great example of what you can do with a modern Passport, and I’m sure that somewhere, some young friends are going to be pinstriping a modern Passport while enjoying adventures they’ll never forget. BONUS RIG 2026 Ultimate Overland Build Nissan Frontier We count this as a bonus to the “Best of…,” but we couldn’t leave out the 2026 Ultimate Overland Build! The entire Overland Expo team was excited to finally debut a project we’ve been working on for months. This truck is equipped with some great gear, and it was assembled by a talented team of partners. Check out the full story behind this Nissan Frontier PRO-4X HERE. View the full article
  6. Drag Race Bracket Bonanza (DRBB), the free fantasy game built for NHRA drag racing fans, has officially opened voting for the Pro Stock Motorcycle edition of its popular Major Moments brackets, the latest chapter in a season-long fan experience celebrating 75 years of NHRA history. The Major Moments initiative features seeded 64-moment brackets in each professional NHRA category: Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle, highlighting the most iconic wins, rivalries, records, championships and unforgettable moments the sport has ever seen. Fans can now vote in the Pro Stock Motorcycle bracket, which will remain open through May 29, during the stretch between the Route 66 Nationals and Potomac Nationals. Throughout the 2026 season, DRBB is unveiling each class-specific bracket one at a time before culminating in an Overall Bracket featuring the Top 16 moments from every category. Fans will ultimately determine the single greatest moment in NHRA drag racing history. “This has become something fans genuinely look forward to every few weeks,” said Elon Werner, creator of Drag Race Bracket Bonanza. “The Major Moments program has added another layer of excitement to DRBB because it keeps fans engaged all season long. Everyone remembers these moments differently, and watching people debate, defend and relive them has been incredible. That’s exactly what we hoped this would become.” After each bracket closes, DRBB publicly releases the fan-completed results, creating even more discussion among racers, longtime followers and newer fans discovering the sport’s history for the first time. Six-time Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion Matt Smith said the bracket is a reminder of how much the category has evolved over the years. “I’m very proud to represent this class,” said Smith. “I set my life ambition to be a world championship in Pro Stock Motorcycle, and I’ve got six of them, and of course I want to get seven and be the all-time leader in our class, so hopefully we can accomplish that this year. And the big moments I have, some are good, some are bad, but we keep striving, and I’m just glad to help support the class and keep new people coming in.” Two-time world champion Gaige Herrera believes the category’s next generation is already creating moments that could someday become part of future brackets. “I just focus on what I’m doing as far as when the big moments are happening,” said Herrera. “This class is only continuing to get better, so I feel like we’re going to see a lot of people who are already in the class step up, or new people come in, to continue to set records and create major moments.” By combining fan voting, NHRA history and friendly debate, DRBB’s Major Moments brackets have quickly become one of the most interactive additions to the 2026 fantasy season. DRBB hopes the program continues sparking passionate conversations among fans about the defining moments, biggest upsets and most legendary performances in NHRA history, all while adding another fun, free and interactive element to the game throughout the season. Remaining Major Moments schedule for 2026: Pro Stock Motorcycle Bracket: May 18 – May 29 (between the Route 66 Nationals and the Potomac Nationals) Funny Car Bracket: June 29 – July 17 (between the Norwalk Nationals and the Sonoma Nationals) Overall Bracket: August 24 – September 5 (between the Brainerd Nationals and the U.S. Nationals) Completed brackets: Top Fuel Bracket: February 23 – March 6 (leading into the Gatornationals) Pro Stock Bracket: March 30 – April 10 (between the Arizona Nationals and the Winternationals) Fans can vote now in the Pro Stock Motorcycle Major Moments bracket at DragRaceBracketBonanza.com. They can find an example video for how to fill out a Major Moments bracket on the DRBB YouTube channel. This story was originally published on May 20, 2026. I once talked to Vic and Cammie Edelbrock about their vintage road racing efforts and Vic told me that while rubbing was discouraged, and it was all supposed to be in fun, they were still racing and sometimes trading paint just happened. And it’s understandable since there are race car drivers behind the wheel of some of these machines and we all know how that can be. So check out the video below to see just what happened to this AC Cobra racing machine. 20. I love donor vehicle builds like this one. What I mean by that is when you buy a car, or parts from the wrecking yard, to build something new and exciting in a way it never was before. My 1956 Chevy station wagon for instance, has a 1994 Caprice 9C1 cop car chassis and drivetrain under it. It was a great way to get a modern efi drivetrain, plus big brakes and much better suspension, all while repairing the rusty floors. We used everything we could out of the donor cop car and it worked out great. In the video below, Tony is going to take suspension from a Crowne Vic and a Mustang, along with a nice stroker small block to make something cool as hell out of this old farm truck. Check it out and let us know what you think. And remember, while the aftermarket is awesome you can sometimes get just what you need at the wrecking yard if you are on a budget. Keep that in mind for your next build, because money saved on one project is money you can use for fancy high end parts on another! Video Description: F100 street RIPPER build starts NOW! 22. The Mid-West Drag Racing Series is collapsing two of its 2026 Flying H Drag Strip dates into a single weekend, turning what had been the June and October Smack Down stops into a four-day double-header September 24-27 – two complete, separately scored races run back-to-back with their own purses, their own qualifying, and their own eliminations. Series founder Keith Haney announced the move alongside Flying H Drag Strip owner Scott Higgs, citing a stack of scheduling and economic pressure points that made consolidating the dates the right play. The FIFA World Cup, competing series stepping on MWDRS race dates, and a regional hotel market running north of $300 a night – when rooms can be found at all – all factored in. “We looked hard at what racers are actually spending to make one of these weekends, and the math doesn’t look the way it used to,” says Haney. “Fuel is up, hotels are up, food is up, payroll is up. Instead of asking our people to make two separate trips and pay two separate sets of bills, we’re giving them two complete races in one trip. More racing, more purse, one hotel bill.” The format was Higgs’s idea. “Scott laid it out and it made too much sense to ignore,” says Haney. “He knows what our racers are dealing with. He knows what this track can deliver. We figured if we’re going to do it, let’s do it big, and that’s exactly what this weekend is.” The format runs Thursday through Sunday. Race 1 qualifies Thursday and runs eliminations Friday. Race 2 qualifies Saturday and runs eliminations Sunday, a departure from MWDRS’s standard no-Sunday policy. Wednesday is open for paid testing and track rental, with reservations going through Blake Housley directly. Every class will race for two complete purses across the weekend. Pro Mod tops the card at a combined $82,000. Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will race for $12,500 in total purse money, Pro 4.20 for $11,300, and the junior dragster categories – PJD and SJD – for $900 across the two events. Racers are free to enter multiple classes, and class entries carry across both events, meaning a driver doubled up in Pro Mod and Top Sportsman is looking at four shots at money in four days. The structure comes with a clear caveat: this is two races, not one stretched into four days. That means two entry fees and two crew fees. A single registration link will cover both events, but racers will need to buy in for each race individually, and the on-site schedule will look different from the standard MWDRS template to fit two complete races into the window. Local class lineups are still to be announced, and Haney hinted at the possibility of a brand-new class added specifically for the weekend. “Our marketing partners deserve two big shows, and that’s what we’re going to deliver,” says Haney. “We’ve got more news coming on local classes, and there’s a real chance we add something brand new just for this weekend. Stay tuned, because we’re not done announcing yet.” A registration link and final schedule are expected in the coming days. This story was originally published on May 19, 2026. Our focus moving forward will be growing the sport, supporting racers and tracks, building stronger sponsor partnerships, and creating world-class experiences for fans, competitors, and communities across the country.” Founded in 1970, the International Hot Rod Association has long been recognized as one of the premier sanctioning bodies in North American motorsports. Originally built around drag racing, the organization has rapidly expanded in recent years into offshore powerboat racing, stock car racing, pulling, and personal watercraft competition. Under the ownership of Darryl Cuttell, the IHRA has entered an aggressive growth phase with expanded national schedules, acquisitions of additional racing properties, and the continued development of new motorsports divisions designed to bring racers and fans together under one unified championship platform. “Dustin is exactly the type of leader this organization needs as we continue building the future of the IHRA,” said Cuttell. “He understands racers, sponsors, promotion, operations, and the business side of motorsports at the highest level. More importantly, he brings energy, vision, and a racer-first mentality that aligns perfectly with where we are taking this company. We believe Dustin will play a major role in helping elevate IHRA into one of the most recognized motorsports organizations in the world.” Farthing has already played a major role in helping expand the IHRA’s presence in powerboat and personal watercraft racing, where the organization has experienced rapid growth through new national events, major sponsor partnerships, increased racer participation, and expanded media exposure.
