Defending PDRA Pro Boost World Champion Ty Tutterow Debuts New Car at Carolina Nationals
Last fall, Ty Tutterow finished the 2025 Red Line Oil PDRA Drag Racing Series season with an ultra-consistent car that carried him to three wins in five straight final rounds and the world championship in WS Construction Pro Boost presented by P2 Contracting and Ty-Drive. Rather than ride that momentum into 2026, Tutterow and Smith recently debuted a brand-new car at the season-opening PDRA Carolina Nationals, and it’s already showing promise in just a few passes. Built by Larry Jeffers Race Cars, the new Quik Fuel ’68 Camaro is powered by a screw-blown Wyo Motorsports-built Noonan 4.9 Hemi paired with a 3-speed Lenco and a Ty-Drive unit. It was wired at Modern Racing and finished in-house at Wyo Motorsports. Tutterow and his father, Todd “King Tut” Tutterow, started the project last season, but with the previous car, a ’69 Camaro, running so well, the team decided to focus on it. Plans changed to bring out the new car during the Drag Illustrated Winter Series presented by J&A Service, but the Wyo crew was kept plenty busy with customers competing over the winter. With Tutterow’s PDRA championship defense season rapidly approaching, he went to work preparing the car for its debut at the Carolina Nationals. The car fired up for the first time on Wednesday at Darlington Dragway and immediately showed potential out of the box. “The very first time off the jackstands we went .916. The next run, it went .913, trying to get to the middle of the track,” Tutterow said. “It rattled the tires in the middle both times. Got it calmed down and got it through there and it went a .61 the first time it went to the stripe. “We haven’t had the back wheels off the car since we got here,” Tutterow continued. “It’s just a testament to Larry Jeffers, his crew, and our group at the shop setting these cars up. We’ve done so many of them now. We run a lot of Larry’s cars. We run a lot of Bickel cars. We know what each chassis combo likes. Just setting the car up and getting it right off the bat, it’s just a blessing, really, to run good that early with it. Dad just has a lot of knowledge with all that stuff – setting cars up and getting them to the track and making the best we can out of short runs. It shows right there in qualifying. We were the second-quickest screw car and the top speed of the screw cars.” After three qualifying sessions at Darlington, Tutterow ended up No. 7 in the Pro Boost field with a 3.580 E.T. at 209.89. Californian Ed Marx was the only screw car to outqualify Tutterow in sixth, while the top five drivers all utilized centrifugal superchargers from ProCharger and Harts Charger. Those combos seemed to have an upper hand in qualifying, something Tutterow will keep tabs on as he fights for a second straight title. “I’m 100% motivated to defend the championship,” said Tutterow, who thanked Smith, as well as Brad and KB at the shop, and partners like Red Line Oil. “I’m excited. Justin’s excited. The crew’s excited. I think we’re going to have a good year. Right now, it seems like we’re quite outperformed. There was a screw car up in the mix with the top five of the other cars, but right now we have a fighting chance from seventh.” Talking with Tutterow on Saturday morning, Tutterow was optimistic about the race day to come. A substantial weather swing overnight brought temperatures down to the low 50s, providing conditions that benefit the screw-blown combo. “I think it’ll help us catch up to those guys a little bit more,” Tutterow said. “We’ll have better air to make more power. The centrifugal stuff, it really isn’t as critical on atmosphere because they can burn the water grains through the hot air charge, and our stuff, the better the air gets, the more boost we’ll make.” In the opening round, Tutterow cut a perfect .000 reaction time against former Pro Nitrous standout Jay Cox and pedaled his way to a 3.693 at 209.50 to finish ahead of Cox and his 3.694 at 207.18. He then threw down a 3.575 at 213.47 in the second round to get past his 2025 championship challenger, two-time Pro Boost world champion Jason Harris, who had to lift to a 4.236. Tutterow’s semifinal battle with Lyle Barnett will need to wait, as PDRA officials postponed the rest of eliminations due to cold track temperatures late Saturday night. The Carolina Nationals will wrap up on Thursday, April 16, at the PDRA East Coast Nationals at Darana Motorsports Park in Dunn, North Carolina. This story was originally published on March 30, 2026. Revchem Composites Plays Critical Role in Ron Capps Motorsports’ Continued Success
Ron Capps Motorsports announced today that Revchem Composites, a leading provider of advanced composite materials and solutions, has extended its partnership with the championship-winning NHRA team in 2026 and beyond. The renewed multi-year agreement expands Revchem’s involvement to include both of RCM’s entries, with branding now featured on Maddi Gordon’s Carlyle Tools Top Fuel dragster in addition to Ron Capps’ NAPA Auto Care Funny Car. Revchem first joined forces with RCM in 2023. The continued partnership comes at a pivotal time, as the organization recently expanded to a two-car team for the 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season with Gordon already powering to consecutive semifinal finishes in her first two professional outings alongside Capps, the newly crowned NHRA Arizona Nationals Funny Car event champion. Revchem’s materials and technology are critical to the success of a professional NHRA operation, where 12,000-horsepower machines are pushed to the limit on every run. With competition at an all-time high, the rigors of 330-mph racing can take a toll on the cars, and when repairs are required, RCM relies on Revchem’s materials and expertise to return its entries to competition form quickly. “Revchem has been an incredible partner for our team, and it means a lot to have them continue with us as we expand to two cars this season,” said Capps, now a fifth-year team owner/driver, who picked up career win No. 78 at Firebird Motorsports Park outside of Phoenix earlier this month. “What they bring to the table goes far beyond just products. Their knowledge, support, and commitment to what we’re doing makes a real difference for our guys, and our outing in Phoenix was a perfect example of that. We had an engine explosion during second round on race day that required extensive body repairs on my Funny Car. Not only are we utilizing their raw materials to have both bodies back in competition form before the team heads out to Pomona, but Revchem also assists us with newer technology, which helps lead to better repairs. Of course, no one sends their car down the track with the expectation that there will be some sort of issue, but the reality is, these are nitro-burning beasts, and things do happen on occasion. Having Revchem on board with both our Funny Car and Maddi’s Top Fuel team gives us a lot of confidence as we continue building this program.” Through its continued collaboration with the RCM, Revchem will receive associate partner-level branding across both entries, increasing its visibility within the drag racing community and to fans throughout NHRA’s 75th anniversary season as Capps chases his fourth NHRA championship and Gordon, a Rookie of the Year contender, pursues her first Top Fuel Wally trophy. “We’re thrilled to extend our partnership with Ron Capps Motorsports and continue supporting such an incredible team,” said Britton Davis, President of Revchem Composites. “Working with Ron and the entire RCM organization has been immensely rewarding, and we’re especially excited to welcome Maddi Gordon as she begins her Top Fuel career. We’re looking forward to another strong season with Ron, Maddi, and the whole RCM team.” Ron Capps Motorsports returns to the track April 10 – 12 at the NHRA Winternationals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip in Pomona, Calif. Drag Race Bracket Bonanza Opens Pro Stock ‘Major Moments’ Bracket, Continuing Season-Long Fan Voting Experience
Drag Race Bracket Bonanza (DRBB), the free-to-play fantasy game for NHRA fans, is keeping the momentum rolling in 2026 with the launch of its Pro Stock Major Moments bracket, now officially open for voting. As part of DRBB’s new feature, the Major Moments brackets invite fans to revisit and rank the most unforgettable highlights from 75 years of NHRA drag racing. Each professional class (Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle), features a seeded field of 64 historic moments, allowing players to vote their way towards a definitive top 16 in each class. The Pro Stock bracket, which is now open, will remain live through April 10, aligning with the stretch on the NHRA calendar between the Arizona Nationals and the historic Winternationals. “This is where the fun really starts to build,” said Elon Werner, creator of Drag Race Bracket Bonanza. “Pro Stock has such a deep and competitive history, and fans are incredibly passionate about it. The Major Moments brackets are designed to keep that energy going all season long. It’s not just a one-time vote, it’s an ongoing experience layered on top of an already free game that gives fans something new to look forward to every few weeks.” One of the sport’s most decorated drivers, Erica Enders, sees the bracket as a powerful reminder of the journey behind the headlines. “There are so many really great wins and moments that include my team and I, but leading up to all those fantastic moments were so many smaller ones that frustrated us and made us stronger to be able to get those things done,” said Enders. “It’s the tough losses and the blow ups that make the great moments even greater.” The Major Moments brackets will continue to unfold throughout the 2026 season, with each class taking center stage before culminating in a final Overall Bracket, where fans will ultimately decide the single greatest moment in NHRA history. After each voting window closes, DRBB will release the consolidated fan-voted brackets, giving the community a chance to compare picks, debate outcomes and relive the sport’s biggest milestones together. The initiative is designed to spark lively discussions among fans, whether at the track, online or with friends and family. Fans can view the voted Top Fuel bracket here. Remaining Major Moments schedule for 2026: Pro Stock Bracket: March 30 – April 10 (between the Arizona Nationals and the Winternationals) Pro Stock Motorcycle Bracket: May 18 – May 29 (between the Route 66 Nationals and the Potomac Nationals) Funny Car Bracket: June 29 – July 17 (between the Norwalk Nationals and the Sonoma Nationals) Overall Bracket: August 24 – September 5 (between the Brainerd Nationals and the U.S. Nationals) Completed brackets: Top Fuel Bracket: February 23 – March 6 (leading into the Gatornationals) With each new bracket release, DRBB continues to add a fresh, interactive layer to the NHRA fan experience, giving players a reason to stay engaged, share opinions and celebrate the sport’s 75th anniversary all season long. Fans can begin voting in the Pro Stock Major Moments bracket today at DragRaceBracketBonanza.com. They can find an example video for how to fill out a Major Moments bracket on the DRBB YouTube channel. This story was originally published on March 30, 2026. PHOTO GALLERY: March Meet Through The Lens of David Beitler
After the 2026 NHRA Heritage Series kicked off on Feb. 13–14 with the Tucson Dragway Reunion in Tucson, Ariz., featuring Group 1 and 2 classes, the excitement continued on March 5–8 at the legendary Famoso Dragstrip in Bakersfield, Calif., for the Good Vibrations Motorsports March Meet, where all classes competed. Favorable weather conditions drew large crowds and teams to the famous strip, set amid the fields surrounding Famoso – nicknamed “The Patch.” Nostalgia Top Fuel Ten Nostalgia Top Fuel teams battled to secure spots in the eight-car field during the two qualifying days. Tyler Hester secured the top spot with a 5.679 at 224.66 mph, followed by four-time champ Tyler Hilton and his 5.724 at 237.21 mph and Pete Kaiser rounding out the top three of the eight-car field with a 5.742 at 249.58 mph. The opening round of eliminations started with an unfortunate upset for No. 1 qualifier Tyler Hester as he broke his throttle cable on the hit and just rolled towards the finish line, while Adam Sorokin powered to a 5.918 at 243.24 mph to advance into the semifinals. No. 2 qualifier Tyler Hilton won over Bret Williamson while No. 3 qualifier Pete Kaiser beat Bobby Cottrell. Mike Hilton also advanced with a tire-shake-troubled pass after Frank McBee Jr. pulled a red light at the tree. In semifinal action, Mike Hilton stepped up his performance, running 5.758 seconds at 236.96 mph to defeat Sorokin, who slowed to a 6.405 at 151.18 mph. On the other side of the ladder, Tyler Hilton laid down one of the quickest runs of eliminations with a 5.689-second blast at 263.31 mph to defeat Kaiser’s 5.814 at 249.23 mph run. The final round paired Tyler Hilton against his uncle, Mike Hilton, for the Nostalgia Top Fuel title. Mike Hilton showed some nerves and left too early, which led to a disqualification for a foul start. His 5.929 at 197.41 mph would have been no match to Tyler Hilton, who drove his McKinney chassis dragster to a 5.714-second pass at 265.09 mph to claim his first March Meet win, starting his championship title defense strong. Nostalgia Funny Car In Nostalgia Funny Car, Todd Plate in “The Problem Child” bounced back from his crash at last year’s Hot Rod Reunion in a big way with a blazing 5.485 at 253.23 mph, running the quickest pass in Nostalgia Funny Car history, to secure the top spot in front of Jon Capps, who posted a best of 5.507 at 265.33 mph to the scoreboards, followed by Shane Westerfield’s 5.515 at 267.53 mph in the Bardahl Camaro. On a side note, Eily Stafford made her debut in the “California Hustler” Pontiac and qualified in a solid 11th place. Round one in Nostalgia Funny Car also saw a big upset win as Geoff Monise put No. 1 qualifier Todd Plate on the trailer in a spectacular pedal fest. Capps defeated Tony Jurado, who encountered problems right at the hit. Westerfield also advanced over Bill Windham. In other matches, Mike Peck eliminated Derrick Moreira, Drew Austin took out Jeff Arend, Nathan Sitko beat Cory Lee and Bobby Cottrell defeated Jerry Espeseth, while Ryan Horan advanced over Eily Stafford. In the second round, Sitko ran 5.552 at 264.00 mph to defeat Capps, who posted a 5.762 at 205.99 mph. Peck continued his strong performance with a 5.584 at 260.56 mph to eliminate Austin, who ran 5.890 at 224.88 mph. Westerfield advanced with a 5.917 at 261.70 mph after Horan shook the tires and coasted to a 7.952 at 228.02 mph. Cottrell rounded out the semifinal field with a 5.634 at 254.38 mph, defeating Monise, who ran 5.789 at 223.99 mph. In the semifinals, Peck powered to a 5.666 at 260.04 mph to defeat Cottrell, who had to lift and ran 5.879 at 254.81 mph. On the other side of the ladder, Sitko advanced with a 5.590 at 259.44 mph over Westerfield, who posted a 5.964 at 195.73 mph. The final paired Peck against Sitko in a close contest. Peck left the line with a .077 reaction time and drove his Camaro-bodied Funny Car to a 5.581-second run at 261.70 mph. Sitko was close at the finish line, running 5.620 at 260.19 mph, but it was Peck who claimed his first-ever March Meet Nostalgia Funny Car victory. Fuel Altered Out of the eight entered Fuel Altered teams, Australian driver Mathew Leonard went to the top with a 6.004 at 238.34 mph in the “Nitro Rat” Fuel Altered. Vince Karstetter’s 6.031 at 261.47 mph earned him the second spot in front of Brandon Seraphine, who ran a best of 6.071 at 230.29 mph in his “Spare Money” Fuel Altered to secure the third spot of the eight-car field. Competing under a 6.00-second index, the Fuel Altered category once again delivered one of the most unpredictable shows at the March Meet at Famoso Dragstrip. In elimination round one, Leonard broke the index with a 5.98 at 225.28 mph but still advanced over Jeff Bennett in the “No Mercy” ’48 Fiat, who kicked a couple of cones during his 6.16 at 192.002 mph run. In the next pairing, Karstetter in “Cherry Bomb” ran 6.252 seconds at 201.11 mph to defeat Bob Godfrey in “Burnin’ Money,” who crossed the stripe in 6.541 seconds at 175.33 mph. Seraphine in his ’32 Bantam Altered named “Spare Change” ran 6.177 at 229.29 mph, but the win came when James Day, who was driving the Burkholder Bros. ’48 Topolino, fouled at the starting line (-.010 reaction time) despite running 6.202 seconds at 230.53 mph. In the final Round One matchup, Dylan Winefsky advanced despite running a slower 6.015 at 208.81 mph. His opponent, Kyle Hough, broke out with a 5.98 – quicker than the 6.00 index – handing the win to Winefsky. In the first semifinal, Winefsky advanced with a 6.289 at 193.88 mph after Leonard broke before attempting a run. The other semifinal saw Seraphine run 6.100 seconds at 229.65 mph to defeat Karstetter, who pulled a red light. The final paired Seraphine against Winefsky. Engine failure in the semis prevented Winefsky from making the call, giving Seraphine the Fuel Altered victory. Seraphine, on a bye, posted a 6.144-second run at 206.89 mph to cap off his winning weekend. All other categories Other winners in their respective categories were Wayne Ramay in Pro Comp, Alan Hull in Jr. Fuel, Steve Faller in 7.0 Pro, Hans Jakob in Nostalgia Eliminator 1, Eric Warner in Nostalgia Eliminator 2, Don Mallory in Nostalgia Eliminator 3, Keith Morovich in A/Gas, Neal Westbrook in B/Gas, Brian Smith in C/Gas, Tim Mulvihill in D/Gas, and Jesse Howe in Hot Rod. The next event of the 2026 NHRA Heritage Tour, part of the 11-race series, is the Cactus Clash, scheduled for April 24–26 at Firebird Motorsports Park in Chandler, Ariz. PHOTO GALLERY: Rizzoli Doubles Up as Summit Series Doubleheader Ignites Famoso
The Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series didn’t just show up at Famoso Dragstrip – it put on a two-day war. With a doubleheader weekend on March 28–29, the famed Bakersfield quarter-mile became a proving ground for some of the West Coast’s toughest bracket racers, where consistency ruled and mistakes were punished fast. By the time the smoke cleared Sunday night, one name stood above the rest. San Luis Obispo’s Kyle Rizzoli – a past NHRA national champion – delivered the kind of performance racers talk about for years, driving two different cars to victory in two different categories on the same day. Rizzoli doubled up in Summit Pro and Summit Super Pro, navigating deep fields and relentless competition to park both cars in the winner’s circle. That’s not luck. That’s elite. While Rizzoli’s double-up headlined Sunday, the entire weekend was loaded with standout performances. Saturday’s opener saw Frank Malone take control of Summit Sportsman, while Bakersfield’s Matt Fritts gave the hometown crowd something to cheer about with the Summit Pro win. Joseph Ghyselinck added another local score in Summit Super Pro, and Mark Avila powered his Hayabusa to victory in Summit Motorcycle competition. Mark Simoniann grabbed the Super Street win, Kyle Conrad topped So-Cal Pro Gas, and David Wolf sealed the deal in Foggit Super Comp. In Junior Street, Alex Rees closed out the day with a win that would turn into something bigger by weekend’s end. Sunday also delivered a strong family storyline in Junior Street. Travis Rees stormed to victory, joining his brother Alex as winners on back-to-back days – sweeping the class across the entire doubleheader and putting both names in the winner’s column for the weekend. Elsewhere on Sunday, Pam Hulse captured the Summit Sportsman win, while Bakersfield’s Paul Silva took control of Summit Motorcycle. Jordan Yeager added a Super Street victory, Austin Frey delivered in So-Cal Pro Gas, and Steve Hendrix flew the Bakersfield flag with a win in Foggit Super Comp. Two days. Two races. One track that kept delivering. From seasoned champions to rising young talent, the Summit Series doubleheader at Famoso Dragstrip proved once again why sportsman racing remains one of the most competitive – and most unforgiving – arenas in drag racing. And if this weekend was any indication, the road to a championship at Famoso is going to be anything but easy. This story was originally published on March 30, 2026. Influence And Impact Podcast: Rolling Art – Wheel History Part 2: Racing Wheels, Alloys, Mags, And More
Wheels and tires make or break a car. When combined with the right stance, the wheels and tires on your ride can dramatically change the look, character, and feel of any car or truck. With one simple change of wheels and tires you can change a car from race car to hot rod, lowrider to custom cruiser, and more. The style of the wheels, along with the size and fitment, can make a really big difference. And if two identical cars have the same style of wheel, but different backspacing/offset and dimensions, they can still look completely different. Fit matters. But the right fit and the wrong wheel style can be just as bad. Here’s the second history lesson on wheels, with more to come in another episode of Influence and Impact. WASTELAND — A Raw Interpretation of the BMW Airhead
Koncepcja WASTELAND czerpie […] The post WASTELAND — A Raw Interpretation of the BMW Airhead appeared first on Return of the Cafe Racers. View the full article
