Here’s our last gallery of photos from one of the finest truck shows on the planet! Of course we’re talking about Lone Star Throwdown in Conroe Texas. We had a great time, and are already making plans for 2025 when we’re going to put together a little caravan on the way to LST. Make sure you pay attention as we get closer, because we’ll be having fun before the show even star

I can’t remember the last time I was in a Harbor Freight and didn’t look at the gantry cranes longingly. Sure, I cherry picker is a great thing that we all need in the shop, but man these gantrys sure look like they would be handy, especially when pulling bodies or beds or what have you. And I own a forklift! I can lift just about anything, but I think one of these could be pretty handy, especially if you put an electric hoist on it too. At any rate, when I found this video showing one of them b

Steve Magnante is back at it, at Backyard Auto in New Hampshire to check out another great muscle car project or two. Today’s is a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner, which is arguably one of Mopar’s best muscle cars, and this one has a cool options list. After all, who wouldn’t want a 383 powered 4-speed Road Runner in their driveway? This thing is cool and in typical Steve fashion you’ll learn something about Road Runners you might not have known. Cadillac has earned a reputation for being America’s benchmark luxury brand. Even as rivals like Lincoln and Lucid Motors push into the premium space, the marque continues to redefine what a high-end cabin experience means. Lately, that effort has moved beyond materials, screens, and tech into sound. At a recent experience at the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), music producers used the so-called “Car Test” inside modern Cadillacs to help decide when a track is truly finished. Not

The Car That Changed America Ford has introduced countless models over the years, yet the Model T – unveiled in the early 1900s – remains iconic to this day. It stands among the best-selling cars of all time, alongside the Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Beetle. But before the Model T achieved legendary status, company founder Henry Ford endured two failed business ventures roughly 125 years ago, fighting to bring his vision of an affordable car for the masses to life. After building his first veh

The Blue Oval plans to launch the first product of its innovative new Universal EV Platform next year, and the automaker is pushing for each vehicle on this platform to be as efficient as possible. A new patent discovered by The Drive highlights how Ford's guiding principles for these new EVs might be put into practice, describing a shifter that may not only simulate the experience of changing gears with a stick but also serve as an interface responsible for altering drive modes, among other pot

Der Rote Sau When building race cars, it's ideal to use something lightweight and compact. You want something that's agile and light on its feet, and bulk easily blunts performance and potential. That said, the Germans have an odd habit of turning their barges into tracked weapons. Audi once raced the sizable V8 in DTM and actually beat flyweights such as the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz 190E. BMW, its South African division at least, took to the track with the extremely rare 745i. As for Mercedes-B

The fact that we now have fully autonomous ride-hailing services across U.S. cities, mainly from Alphabet's Waymo, Amazon's Zoox and Tesla, is probably the best indicator of the giant leap automotive technology has made 140 years after the world's first automobile went on sale. But as far as self-driving tech has come, there's still a lot of room for improvement in some areas, including navigating adverse weather (especially rain, snow and fog), dealing with complex human behaviors, such as erra

Not the First, but Still Definitive BMW is far from the first automaker to create the sporty compact executive segment. But if you ask anyone to name a car from that class, chances are, you'll get the 3 Series as a common answer. The first-generation model was introduced to the world in July 1975, succeeding the hugely popular and highly acclaimed 02 Series. Replacing the 02 models was a tough ask, but the 3 Series pulled it off nonetheless. Over 50 years and seven generations later, it remains

Jeep has been leaning into its roots lately with what they call their "Convoy Campaign." So far, we've seen unique models like the Gladiator Shadow Ops and Wrangler Willys 392. Now the Jeep Gladiator will get a nostalgic appearance package called Whitecap. It is a simple, low-cost add-on that gives the pickup a classic two-tone look inspired by early Jeeps. Small updates like this also show why Jeep remains a key pillar for Stellantis during a turbulent period. A Heritage Look Without The Hefty

A Unicorn Goes to Auction The Nissan Skyline GT-R R32, R33, and R34 are undeniably some of the most iconic models from the Japanese marque, but the Nismo 400R may be the most coveted of them all – arguably matching the R34 Z-Tune in collector appeal, which itself is rumored to have sold for nearly $2 million. One of the 44 400R examples is currently listed through Broad Arrow Auctions and is expected to fetch seven figures, with estimates reaching as high as $1.1 million. Based on the R33 platfo

When Safety Tech Becomes a Legal Question Apart from convenience, Tesla’s so-called Autopilot has always been connected to safety. The advanced driver aid can steer, brake, and step in when needed. Systems like Full Self-Driving (FSD) are officially SAE-certified as Level 2, so the driver is supposed to stay in charge. Sounds simple enough on paper, but it’s a different story on the road. In a 2019 crash in Key Largo, Florida. George McGee was driving a Tesla Model S on Autopilot when he looked

A Cheaper Leaf that Almost Happened Nissan’s latest Leaf is a clear departure from the model’s no-frills roots. The design is sharper, the tech is up to date, and the price is lower than most expected. Starting just under $30,000, the 2026 Leaf actually costs less than the original 2010 version when you factor in inflation. That move alone made the new Leaf a step forward for EV accessibility. Nissan even looked set to go further by bringing a cheaper S trim to the US, mirroring what’s already a

Transmission Trouble, Again Ford isn’t the only automaker recently dealing with a transmission issue that can lock up the rear wheels. General Motors has issued a recall covering 43,732 full-size SUVs over a similar problem. The issue is related to a 2024 recall (24V797) that affected more than 461,000 vehicles. This time, however, the recall applies to gas-powered models equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission. According to the new recall (26V085), certain vehicles may contain a transmi

The Good News A report by Mitchell found that repair costs for EVs have dipped slightly. That should give current owners a little more confidence, should the unfortunate happen. In the U.S, it's down to $6,395 from $6,707 or about $400 less than last year. Okay, it still sounds pricey, but it's still something. But that's pretty much where the good news ends, because EVs are still more expensive to repair than ICE-powered vehicles. The complexity of these vehicles isn't doing it any favors, eith

The Electric Behemoth The GMCHummer EV may be infamous for its inefficiency due to its sheer size and weight, but it’s hardly delicate. So when LaMelo Ball of the Charlotte Hornets crashed his Hummer EV pickup at the intersection of Trade and Tryon streets in Charlotte – resulting in significant damage – it raised eyebrows about the truck’s toughness. According to WSOCTV9, the Hummer EV was attempting to make a left turn at the intersection when it collided with a Kia K5, formerly known as the O

With a growing number of models, like the latest Camry, they’re only available as hybrid. On the flip side, the Japanese automaker has been among the slowest to adopt pure battery-electric technology. Until now, anyway. Entering the new yea

American startup Slate is still on track to disrupt the pickup truck segment with the most affordable model in the market. The promised mid-$20,000 price point would make the Slate EV the cheapest pickup truck in the country, and by far the cheapest fully electric pickup. But we’ve seen how pricing promises in the development stage can crumble by the time vehicles roll off the production line—just look at the TeslaCybertruck, which never came close to its promised sub-$30,000 price—but an update
