NASCAR adjusts Talladega Cup stage length to head off fuel saving tactics
NASCAR has adjusted the length of the three stages for the Cup Series race at Talladega on April 26. The first stage will end on Lap 98, the second stage on Lap 143 and the scheduled conclusion on Lap 188. In comparison, last year saw the stages end on Lap 60 and 120. In other words, NASCAR has structured the race where fuel will not be necessary in the middle of the final two stages, to ...Keep readingView the full article

VW CEO Admits ID.3 and ID.4 'Not True Volkswagens'
Not Pulling PunchesVolkswagen's current CEO, Thomas Schäfer, is well aware of the problems and missteps the company has made over the years. Customers bemoaned the initial ID electric models, critics slammed the cars, and ergonomics and user experience took several steps back. Ever since he took the post in 2022, Schäfer has acknowledged most, if not all, of Volkswagen's shortcomings that have led up to this point. Speaking to Auto Express and other members of the European motoring press, the CEO called the original ID.3 and ID.4 "not true Volkswagens." He also mentioned instances where he disagreed with the direction the company took towards the end of the 2010s. Volkswagen UK Course CorrectionWhile changes aren't overnight, the company has been correcting the mistakes little by little to make Volkswagen appealing again at the very least. Of course, Schäfer isn't doing all the heavy lifting, and he has Kai Grünitz as his Technical Development chief to help the company turn things around. Volkswagen had learned the hard way with the ID.3 and ID.4. Those cars pushed the boundaries a little too much, and it was effectively a shock to the system for VW fans and owners when they first stepped inside. The near-buttonless cabins eventually spread to more traditional models, likely turning off more potential customers. It's that, and the introduction of new names that didn't resonate with customers, is something VW clients didn't ask for in the first place. The two have made it clear that it'll be about asking what the customer really wants rather than what the company thinks the customer truly needs. It's a tough balancing act, as automakers need to innovate and push boundaries without alienating their customer pool, all while remaining true to their ethos. Volkswagen What to ExpectThe company is set to use more familiar names and designs even for its upcoming electric models. The interiors of the current lineup have been simplified to some extent, so we can expect future models to follow suit. Oh, and you won't be seeing pop-out door handles from the brand, either. It's clear that VW customers prefer gentle evolution rather than extreme revolution. Aside from making its cars look and feel more familiar again, Volkswagen is also banking on heritage and emotional appeal in its new chapter. That said, the cars will be more high-tech, for sure, and the company needs to adapt to the rapid pace of development we're witnessing nowadays. The company aims to deliver simplicity and tech in one (relatively) affordable package with the ID. Every1 and ID. Polo, along with the upcoming introduction of the ninth-generation Golf. Speaking to European automotive press, Grünitz said, "I gave my team a very simple goal: when we present our new vehicles in 2026, we want to be proud again, proud of the positive feedback of families and friends, colleagues and customers." Indeed, it's an exciting time for VW, but it's also one the company can't afford to screw up. Volkswagen View the full article

Honda CR-V Vs. Nissan Rogue Vs. Hyundai Tucson: Which SUV Is The Safest?
Every month in the United States, thousands of compact crossovers are sold. This is a crucial segment in the country, where vehicles are expected to do everything well, including safety. Often used as family vehicles, these crossovers should protect you in a crash and have the necessary technologies to help you avoid an accident in the first place. Since the 2026 Toyota RAV4 hasn’t been tested for safety yet, we’ve compared the latest results of three other big-sellers in this category: the Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, and Hyundai Tucson. Based on testing conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which of these compact crossovers is the safest? Related: The Safest New Cars Under $30,000, According to IIHS Crashworthiness: Hyundai Leads the Way Cole Attisha The IIHS crashworthiness tests are divided into three categories. These are the small overlap front test, whereby the front corner of a vehicle collides with another object or vehicle; the moderate overlap front test, involving an offset crash between two cars; and the side crash test. These tests are rated Good, Acceptable, Marginal, or Poor. IIHS/YouTube Of these three vehicles, only the 2026 Hyundai Tucson qualified for the IIHS’ Top Safety Pick+ award. It’s also the only one to score a Good rating in all three tests, even though the moderate overlap and side tests were recently updated to be even tougher. The Rogue is next while the CR-V has one Poor rating. Hyundai Tucson Nissan Rogue Honda CR-V Small Overlap Front Good Good Good Moderate Overlap Front Good Acceptable Poor Side Good Good Good The CR-V’s results show a heightened risk of chest injuries for rear-seat passengers in the moderate overlap front test. In the same test, the Rogue has a slightly elevated risk of injury for rear-seat passengers’ heads, necks, and chests. IIHS/YouTube IIHS/YouTube The Tucson did fall short in one area, though. In the new whiplash test, it received a Poor rating, although this does not affect a vehicle’s ability to achieve a Top Safety Pick+ rating. The Rogue scored Marginal for this test and the CR-V was not evaluated. Overall, though, the Hyundai’s test results show it’s the safest vehicle if you are actually involved in a crash. Related: Ford F-150 Vs. Chevy Silverado 1500 Vs. Ram 1500: Which Pickup Is The Safest? Crash Prevention: All Solid, But Nissan and Honda Leave Room For Improvement Hyundai These tests evaluate a vehicle’s ability to prevent a collision with another vehicle or a pedestrian. Headlights are also tested, since this can impact the driver’s visibility. Hyundai Tucson Nissan Rogue Honda CR-V Headlights Good (LED projector); Acceptable (LED reflector) Good Good Front crash prevention (vehicle-to-vehicle) Good Acceptable Acceptable Front crash prevention (pedestrian) Good Good Acceptable The Tucson’s crash-prevention systems were rated as the best overall, as it successfully avoided colliding with vehicles and pedestrians at various speeds. A few driver warnings were not considered timely enough, though. Only the Tucson’s LED projector headlights got a Good rating, with some trims with LED reflector headlights receiving an Acceptable rating. The Rogue and CR-V have generally capable crash-prevention systems, but with some room for improvement. In the Nissan, not all collisions with another car could be avoided, although the vehicle’s speed was reduced. The same applies to the Honda, but in both vehicle-to-vehicle and pedestrian tests. Both Japanese models had Good ratings for their headlights, though, and all three cars are generously equipped with essential collision mitigation systems. Final Thoughts: Pick The Hyundai For Safety Hyundai Between these three popular compact crossovers, the Hyundai Tucson emerges as the leader for overall safety. Besides the whiplash tests, it better protects occupants in a crash and has a more effective collision-avoidance system. The other two vehicles offer a reasonable level of safety and should still do a solid job of keeping the passenger compartment intact in a crash. But safety tests are becoming tougher each year, so there are a few areas where the Honda and Nissan could be improved. The Honda, specifically, needs better protection for those at the back in the moderate front overlap test. We expect the all-new RAV4 to be tested soon, but it’ll need near-perfect scores to surpass the Tucson. View the full article

Well-Maintained Ford EcoBoost V6 Engine Failed at 110K Miles—What Went Wrong?
When Maintenance Isn’t the ProblemThe 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 doesn’t have a flawless track record. It’s seen as one of Ford’s sturdier modern turbo engines, but, like most small-displacement turbos, it brings its own set of quirks. The standard advice still stands: keep up with maintenance, and you’ll probably steer clear of major problems. Regular oil changes and proper servicing usually pay off. But what if you follow the book and the engine still fails? That’s exactly what happened with this 2022 Ford F-150 running the 2.7-liter EcoBoost, recently torn down by I Do Cars. The owner changed the oil every 6,500 to 7,500 miles – well ahead of Ford’s 10,000-mile interval. Dealer records confirmed the routine, and the engine’s internals reflected that level of care. Even so, the engine catastrophically failed at just 110,000 miles. Clean on Top, Catastrophe BelowInitial inspection didn’t reveal anything out of the ordinary. The valvetrain was clean, with little varnish and no evidence of oil starvation. Timing components looked good, and overall, it matched what you’d expect from an engine that’s been given a proper TLC. That first impression changed quickly. Once the spark plugs were removed, it was clear that one cylinder was essentially gone, with metal fragments stuck to the plugs. The rest were wet and fouled, pointing to a tough final run before the engine gave out. Digging deeper, one turbocharger was loaded with metal debris, and the oil filter was packed with shavings. The oil system had been moving fragments around, but that looked more like a result than the root cause. The real trouble was further inside. One piston was completely destroyed, leaving fragments scattered in the oil pan. Pieces of connecting rod, piston rings, and bits of the aluminum block turned the bottom end into a collection of broken parts. The block itself had serious internal damage, with cracks and punctures throughout. The cylinder head told the rest of the story. One bank had a burnt exhaust valve with heavy seat damage, while the other was missing an exhaust valve altogether. I Do Cars/YouTube View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article The Likely CauseThe evidence points to a combustion issue, not a lubrication problem. Bearings and journals were still in good shape, so oil starvation wasn’t to blame. Instead, the evidence suggests that the exhaust valve overheated, weakened, and finally failed. Once it broke apart and entered the combustion chamber, the rest of the damage happened fast. Interestingly, Ford has issued a recall for certain EcoBoost engines due to brittle intake valves, including some models equipped with the 2.7-liter unit (which led to a weird lawsuit). However, this particular failure involved exhaust valves, which fall outside the scope of that recall. That doesn’t mean the two issues are connected, but it does raise questions about valve durability in these engines. Add in known concerns with fueling, injectors, and combustion, and the long-term reliability picture gets more complicated. There’s no single answer here. Bad fuel, a weak injector, or a one-off part failure could all be to blame. The main takeaway: even with careful maintenance, some engines can still fail. Ford View the full article

Winners and losers from a grueling NASCAR Cup race at Bristol
Ty Gibbs held on against a charging Ryan Blaney at Bristol Motor Speedway to become the 207th different winner in NASCAR Cup Series history this past weekend. The 500-lap event was pushed into overtime, leaving three drivers on three different tire strategies to battle it out for the win. Larson on two fresh right-sides had led the most laps, Blaney with four fresh tires was clearly the fastest ...Keep readingView the full article

Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio Get a 'Carbon' Package With Barely Any Carbon
Hanging in ThereDespite its rivals being offering models a generation or two older, Alfa Romeo is still holding on to the current iterations of its Giulia and Stelvio. The Giulia debuted in 2015 for the 2016 model year, dusting off a name last used in the early-70s. After that, it was the Stelvio, the Italian automaker's first true attempt at the luxury compact crossover market. Today, both are at least a decade old and will be hanging around for a little longer. The two actually received a stay of execution, and despite their ages, sales actually went up (globally) last year. While the two don't sell in the same numbers as their German rivals, there's still more than enough interest in those cars to keep them going. Alfa Romeo Keeping Interest UpNow, we're not expecting all-new generations of these two cars within a year or two. For the time being, the Italian automaker has unveiled a new, limited-edition model to keep interest up and eyes on the aging models. That said, it seems that it's for the German market only, although it might eventually make its way across Europe. It's called the Carbon Performance Package, and despite the name, you won't find that material anywhere on the outside. It doesn't get additional horsepower, and it's worth noting that the German-market Giulia and Stelvio are diesel-only and all-wheel drive-only. Its 2.2-liter lump is good for 207 hp and 347 lb-ft, which brings this car to 62 mph under 7 seconds and a top speed of 146 mph. If anything, it's really more of an enhanced version of the Veloce package that's available for both models. So, what does it get? Well, it gets a few strips of carbon fiber on the dashboard, doors, and center console. But the big deal here is the standard fitment of Alfa Adaptive Suspension, which is typically reserved for Quadrifoglio models. It should make the Stelvio and Giulia drive even better, and that's not a small feat. A Harman/Kardon sound system is also included in the mix. Alfa Romeo The Next-Gen Giulia and Stelvio: What to ExpectAlfa Romeo is likely to unveil the new-generation Stelvio and Giulia before the end of the decade. The sedan could come out first, followed by the crossover a year after, but given that SUVs are the norm these days, the company could do the other way around. As for the platform, both will likely use the same one as the Charger, so expect those models to grow in size. As for powertrains, there's a good chance it'll be a mix of turbo-hybrids for compliance in Europe, and you can bet there will also be an electric option. There might even be a diesel, depending on how things pan out in the future. Details are still relatively murky at this point, but we're hoping for six-cylinder power under the hood of these cars - and not just for the top-shelf versions. GM Explores Tech That Warns When You Truck is Loaded the Wrong Way
GM’s Watching the WeightGeneral Motors filed a patent application for a detection system designed to identify improper loading. The system would use additional components, such as cameras, to warn drivers of overloading or imbalance, while also suggesting ways to correct it. Filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office under patent number US 2026/0091799 A1 and published on April 2, 2026, the load detection system aims to improve safety, as improper vehicle loading can affect stability and make driving more difficult and dangerous, increasing the risk of loss of control or even rollovers, especially in high-riding vehicles. It could also help prevent structural issues such as uneven tire wear and suspension damage, which may cost owners more in repairs. USPTO Understanding the MechanicsData would be gathered using several cameras mounted around the exterior of the vehicle, which would analyze suspension compression to estimate whether the vehicle is carrying too much weight and where that weight is concentrated. The system could also use other sensors to monitor factors such as vehicle speed for more accurate readings, especially since uneven ground can make measurements more complicated. The system could provide suggestions on how to reposition cargo or how much weight to remove. While this technology could, in theory, improve safety and reduce repair costs, it would also likely raise vehicle MSRPs due to the added components. That matters because the U.S. market is already in need of more affordable vehicles, with the average new-car price having climbed past $50,000 late last year. Moreover, if those components fail, they could become yet another repair expense for owners. Chevrolet The Catch With PatentsBut then again, this is still just a patent, meaning there’s no guarantee that General Motors will bring it to production. Automakers sometimes file patents simply to prevent competitors from using similar technology. Whether such a detection system would ultimately improve ownership or make it more complicated remains up for debate. General Motors offers several truck models across its two brands, Chevrolet and GMC. If this patent were to reach production, it would likely be most useful for the company's heavy-duty lineup, which includes the Silverado HD and Sierra HD. Both nameplates are also available with all-electric counterparts. Chevrolet View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article View the full article

Mitsubishi CEO Loves Manual Transmissions—Just as the Pajero Returns
The Pajero’s Return Is No Longer a RumorThe Pajero is coming this year. This has been news because of dealer leaks, but now, it’s official. Mitsubishi Motors President and COO Keisuke Kishiura confirmed the timeline at the Automobile Council 2026 in Japan. That ends months of speculation. Speaking to Best Car, Kishiura said, “It will be released by the end of the year as a new cross-country SUV, so please wait for that.” He stopped short of explicitly naming the Mitsubishi Pajero, but the direct question and context – combined with the event’s Pajero-heavy display – make the direction fairly clear. The executive also shared a personal detail that stands out. He prefers manual transmissions. Most SUVs today are automatic, so this is unusual. It is not clear if this will affect product decisions, but it is a mindset that off-road fans will notice. MitsubishiMotorsTV/YouTube A President Who Still Prefers Three PedalsKishiura’s comments weren’t limited to product plans. He also gave a glimpse into his own car history, and it’s not what you’d expect from a modern automotive executive. He said he has never owned a Pajero. Instead, he prefers the RVR Sport Gear, especially the 5-speed manual version. He described himself as a manual transmission kind of person and said he chose the stick shift even when automatics were more common. Does this mean the upcoming Pajero will have a stick shift? Not really, but at least we know the man at the top is still a fan of MTs. Kishiura’s garage has also included models like the Lancer and Grandis. More recently, he has driven electrified vehicles like the eK Cross EV and Outlander PHEV. This shows he understands both Mitsubishi’s heritage and its move toward electrification. When asked about competition from low-cost Chinese EVs in ASEAN markets, Kishiura said Mitsubishi will not try to compete with them directly. The company will focus on its strengths, like durability and off-road capability. This approach matches what buyers expect from Mitsubishi. Cars & Bids What We Know About the New Pajero So FarDetails are scarce at this point, but the direction is clearer now. Mitsubishi calls the new model a true cross-country SUV and plans to make it a core vehicle for the brand. The “cross-country SUV” part is important. It suggests the new Pajero will not become a soft-roader like many current SUVs. Instead, it is expected to keep traditional off-road strengths, possibly with body-on-frame construction or strong terrain capability. There are signs that Mitsubishi has been benchmarking the Pajero against the Toyota Land Cruiser. That sets a high standard and shows the company wants more than just to bring back an old name. It is still unclear how Mitsubishi will balance a rugged identity with modern needs like electrification, safety technology, and global market demands. The company’s recent success with hybrids in Southeast Asia suggests an electrified powertrain could be included. Volvo Doubled Down on SUVs—But U.S. Sales Still Plunged 32%
Volvo’s goal to increase U.S. sales by 60% by 2030 is a lofty one, but it’s going to need a significant turnaround between now and then to make it happen. The Swedish automaker has just reported first-quarter sales in the U.S., and every single model has seen a decline in sales relative to the same quarter last year. Overall, the company sold 22,651 vehicles in Q1 2026, a steep 32% drop from last year. With a lineup now almost exclusively made up of SUVs and heavily focused on electrified models, Volvo’s range is well off the pace of most other European luxury brands. A Dismal Start to the Year Volvo Of all Volvo models sold in Q1 2026, 5,762 were electrified (EVs or plug-in hybrids) and 16,889 were mild hybrids. EVs were down 14%, PHEVs were down 49%, and mild hybrids dropped by 29%. Despite being one of the oldest Volvo models on sale, the XC90 was the best-selling model on 8,513 units, but that’s still 9% less than a year ago. It was followed by the XC60 on 8,061 units (-37%), the XC40 on 3,403 units (-47%), and the EX30 (which will be discontinued at the end of 2026) on 915 units (-23%). Another 458 EX30 Cross Country variants were sold last quarter. Model Q1 2026 Q1 2025 % increase/decrease S60 2 685 -100% S90 17 377 -95% V60 Cross Country 565 983 -43% V90 Cross Country 15 166 -91% XC40 3,403 6,469 -47% XC60 8,061 12,706 -37% XC90 8,513 9,369 -9% EX30 915 1,185 -23% EX30 Cross Country 458 - - EX90 702 1,000 -30% Total 22,651 33,285 -32% The S60, S90, V60 Cross Country, and V90 Cross Country have all been discontinued, with the final V60 Cross Country models set to be produced this month. That leaves Volvo without a sedan or wagon, although the ES90 electric sedan will change that; it's not expected to sell in large volumes, though. Volvo “While the first quarter presented challenges, we are seeing strong momentum heading into Q2 and our focus remains firmly on meeting the needs of our customers in a dynamic market, with a diverse portfolio of powertrain options – MHEV, PHEV and BEV,” said Luis Rezende, President, Volvo Car Americas. To put Volvo’s Q1 sales into perspective, Mercedes-Benz sold 78,500 vehicles last quarter and BMW hit over 80,000 units. Even a much smaller luxury brand like Acura outsold Volvo with sales of over 32,000 vehicles. Related: Volvo Hasn’t Closed the Door on Wagons Just Yet What It Means Volvo Even though it’s been a tough quarter for many automakers, Volvo’s sharp decline in sales must be a concern. High average new-car prices, severe winter weather, and rising gas costs have all impacted car sales in Q1, hitting some brands harder than others. For Volvo specifically, the move to an almost exclusively SUV lineup further eroded sales, and even those SUVs have seen a large decline in sales. The company has also been plagued by software issues in new-generation vehicles, which may have dented the public’s confidence in the brand. There is one promising launch to look forward to, though: the EX60 SUV will be introduced later this year. If Volvo can stabilize its software before that vehicle launches and capitalize on renewed interest in EVs, the company may be able to finish the year stronger than it started it. Land Rover Sued Over Range Rover Brakes Alleged to Wear Out Early
Luxury Expectations, Unexpected ProblemsLand Rover built the Range Rover’s reputation on status and refinement. These SUVs usually end up in garages where expectations run high – not just for comfort and capability, but for longevity that justifies the price. At this price point, you’d expect major parts – especially brakes – to last. For some Range Rover and Range Rover Sport owners, though, that’s not what happened. A class action lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the District of New Jersey claims otherwise. The case, Zats et al. v. Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC, centers on three plaintiffs from New York, California, and Illinois who allege their vehicles suffered from premature brake wear. James Riswick The Case Against the BrakesThe plaintiffs – Boris Zats, Amir Gupta, and Frank Ruffolo – each report paying thousands of dollars out of pocket to replace brake pads and rotors far earlier than expected. Zats replaced his brakes at just under 15,000 milesGupta did the same slightly past 16,000 milesRuffolo had two vehicles serviced, both before 14,000 milesEach repair ran from about $2,000 to over $2,500. The lawsuit says this isn’t just bad luck – it’s a sign of a bigger problem with the brakes. The complaint claims the brakes run hot – so hot that pads, rotors, and other parts wear out fast. Owners say they’ve heard squealing, grinding, vibrations, and even knocking when they hit the brakes. Sometimes, it gets bad enough that repairs aren’t just recommended – they’re unavoidable. The owners say dealers wouldn’t cover the repairs under warranty. Normally, brakes are considered wear-and-tear items, but the lawsuit argues these failures are happening too soon to be chalked up to normal use. The complaint also cites several technical service bulletins issued to dealers regarding early brake wear, suggesting that Land Rover knew owners were having repeat problems. What Happens NextJaguar Land Rover attempted to move the dispute out of court by invoking arbitration clauses found in warranty documents. The company argued that the plaintiffs had agreed to resolve disputes through arbitration rather than litigation. However, the plaintiffs countered that they were never properly informed of these terms, claiming the arbitration provisions were buried deep within the vehicle handbook and not disclosed at the point of sale. For now, the court has denied Land Rover’s motion to compel arbitration. The ruling doesn’t settle the case but allows it to proceed, at least temporarily, in court. The judge has ordered limited discovery to determine whether a valid arbitration agreement exists. So now, both sides get to dig up more evidence before Land Rover tries to steer things back to arbitration. For now, the case is just getting started. But it’s a reminder that in the luxury world, high expectations can clash with real-world headaches. James Riswick View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article View the full article

Cadillac Lyriq-V Paint Option Costs Nearly as Much as a Used Honda Civic
Cadillac’s $3,995 Paint Option Pushes Lyriq Pricing Into Unusual TerritoryCadillac has found a new lever to pull on pricing, and this time, it has nothing to do with batteries or supply chains. For 2026, the automaker is introducing Magnus Metal Frost, a $3,995 paint option available only on the Lyriq-V Premium. That figure brushes up against the cost of an entry-level used car, with older Honda Civics in some markets still trading in that range. The move lands at a moment when affordability is already under pressure. Used vehicle prices have been climbing, while broader concerns around tariffs and trade volatility continue to cloud the outlook for new cars. Cadillac, however, is sidestepping those constraints and leaning into something more controllable: high-margin design upgrades. Cadillac Cadillac Wants to Regain Its Luxury FootingThe Lyriq has built its reputation on delivering a luxury EV experience without the typical luxury price tag. Its design, interior quality, and technology have consistently been positioned as competitive with European rivals, without requiring the same financial leap. That balance has been central to its appeal and a key reason it has resonated with buyers, even as Cadillac works to reclaim its footing in the luxury space and reassert itself as a top-tier brand. A nearly $4,000 paint option, however, begins to shift that equation. While optional, it points to a broader strategy: maintain an accessible base price while stretching the upper end with high-margin extras, a tactic more commonly seen among higher-end luxury marques. It’s part of a broader push by Cadillac to elevate its image and margins simultaneously. Meanwhile, models like the more affordable Optiq give the brand coverage on the lower end, offering buyers an alternative if the Lyriq’s expanding list of add-ons starts to feel like a step too far. Cadillac Lyriq Is Paint a Good Enough Indicator for Prestige?Cadillac wants to think that the Magnus Metal Frost color option is a status marker. According to the Cadillac website, the colorway will be rare and available only on a limited run. On a performance-focused trim like the Lyriq-V, it serves as a visual cue that this is the range-topping version, configured with intent and priced accordingly. But the question lingers: at what point does customization tip into excess? When a paint option rivals the cost of a used car, it stops being a simple aesthetic upgrade and becomes a test of buyer appetite. Cadillac appears willing to explore that. If customers respond, expect more of these high-margin flourishes. If they don’t, the Lyriq’s original value-driven formula will remain firmly intact. View the full article

Genesis G90 Facelift Spotted With Bold New Look and Level 3 Tech on the Way
Refreshed Genesis G90 Spotted Testing With Radical Front-End RedesignThe upcoming Genesis G90 facelift has been spotted testing in the U.S., giving us a clearer look at how the brand is evolving its flagship sedan ahead of its expected Q3 2026 debut in Korea. While heavy camouflage still obscures finer details, the overall design direction is already emerging, marking a notable shift from the current model’s more traditional luxury proportions. Most striking is the front end. The oversized crest grille appears visually less prominent, with Genesis instead emphasizing its signature two-line lighting. These slimmer, more horizontal light bars now stretch wider across the fascia, creating a cleaner, more futuristic look that feels less encumbered by chrome-heavy elements. The result is a front profile that prioritizes width, minimalism, and a more modern luxury identity. A More Digital, More Luxurious Direction, With Some Big GuessesAround the back, the heavy camouflage suggests a reworked rear lighting signature and cleaner surfacing. While the full design remains hidden, the tighter wrap of the camo suggests a more cohesive, less ornate rear end, likely aligning with the simplified front. The overall silhouette remains unmistakably G90, long, formal, and chauffeur-friendly—but with a more restrained execution. Inside, there are still no confirmed visuals, but if the GV90 is any indication, it will feature a large infotainment screen on the dashboard that works in tandem with the digital gauge cluster and a head-up display. YouTube / @KindelAuto View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article A “Budget Maybach” That’s Growing Into Its RoleThis update also coincides with a major technological leap, as the G90 facelift will debut Level 3 autonomous driving in Korea. Unlike current Level 2 systems that require constant driver supervision, this new Highway Driving Pilot allows hands-off and eyes-off operation under specific highway conditions, backed by LiDAR, radar, and an upgraded control unit. It’s a significant step that puts Genesis into a more exclusive tier of automation. The current G90 has already been described as a “budget Maybach,” offering a compelling luxury experience at a relatively accessible price point. This facelift builds on that positioning, refining the design language while introducing more advanced tech. If Genesis can also address prior quality concerns, this updated G90 could move from being a value alternative to a genuine segment disruptor. Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the full article

Ram Created the First HD Truck That Can Catch Baddies, As Long As They Don't Go Past 103 MPH
Last year, Stellantis introduced the Ram 1500 Special Service Vehicle, a pickup designed for use by park rangers, fire departments, police, and other government agencies, and now the 1500's bigger brother is getting similar treatment with the reveal of the 2027 Ram 2500 Emergency Response Vehicle, which the brand is calling the "first pursuit-capable heavy-duty truck." Like the 1500 SSV, it's aimed at law enforcement, fire, rescue, and emergency response agencies, providing them with the towing and hauling capability of a 3/4-ton truck along with enough performance to keep up with the bad guys. Let's take a closer look. HEMI V8 Power Helps Ram's ERV Pass Police Tests Stellantis View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article The new truck is the first (and thus far only) 3/4-ton truck to complete Michigan State Police vehicle trials, which include 0-60 mph, 0-80 mph, and 0-100 mph acceleration tests, achieving figures of 8.41 seconds, 13.22 seconds, and 20.5 seconds, respectively. Those figures are "within two seconds" of some smaller and lighter 1/2-ton trucks and SUVs, and the 2027 Ram ERV tops out at 103 mph, limited by its tires, a speed it can achieve in under half a mile. Under the hood is a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 delivering 405 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque to a TorqueFlite HD eight-speed automatic transmission, which feeds a selectable two-speed transfer case and a new differential with a 4.10 axle ratio (3.73 is the standard Ram 2500 axle ratio). Ram's New ERV Can Handle Bends, Too Stellantis Michigan State Police Testing also included high-speed maneuverability tests, braking trials, and hot laps at Grattan Raceway, near Grand Rapids, Michigan (the track is currently for sale, by the way). This track has a 160-degree hairpin, a downhill reverse-camber section, and a 3,200-foot straight, so the ERV was certainly put to the test in as many ways as possible, and its passing was partly attributed to its five-link coil rear suspension. Stellantis didn't reveal what the truck costs, but since it's not aimed at civilians, that doesn't matter. The 2027 Ram 2500 Emergency Response Vehicle will be available to fleets from the second half of the year. View the full article

Ford Offers Up to $3,500 in Gas Incentives to U.S. Buyers
Staying AliveIt's been a tough 2025 and the start of 2026 for the automotive industry, from the EV slowdown and market preference shift to the oil crisis. Automakers have been putting out fires left and right, pivoting strategies, or offering more incentives to entice new car buyers. To tackle the fuel price issue, Ford in the US is offering a very unique incentive program. One that tackles fuel prices head-on for potential new car buyers through gas cards. This might also be the way the brand is trying to get customers to buy some of the slower-selling models. Savings MatterNew car buyers are becoming more conscious of the cars they're getting. We've already seen the market react with customers flocking to electrified powertrains. Brands are seeing this and are trying to offer deals that might sway customers towards the other non-hybrid or EV offerings. According to a report by Cars Direct, Ford is now offering the Fuel Your Ford Program, which can provide savings of up to $3,500. An April 1 bulletin shows that this fuel incentive program is now being offered in five regions in the United States. The specific states are Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, Phoenix, and San Francisco. However, the offer is only available for two Ford models, the Maverick and the Bronco Sport, until April 30, 2026. The amounts for each variant and model also vary by region. In California, the Bronco Sport gets $3,000 off MSRP, while the Maverick gets $3,500 on the Lobo variant but $2,500 on the others. There is also a $1,000 rebate on the hybrid Maverick. It's no surprise that this deal is on offer for the Bronco Sport and Maverick, with reports suggesting the brand is struggling to sell over 20,000 units of the 2025 year models of both nameplates. Ford The Fine PrintAs mentioned, only two models in the lineup are eligible for the fuel card incentive, not to mention other fine-print rules that might dissuade buyers from participating. This discount is also available only to buyers, not lessees, and cannot be used with other cash incentives. Furthermore, it might take up to five weeks for the fuel card to be issued, which may be too long for buyers. Cars Direct also finds that the other cash incentive programs offered by Ford might offer buyers better value at much less hassle than the fuel card incentive. At the moment, it seems only the West Coast is offering the fuel incentive program. F View the full article

2026 Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator Rewind Editions Channel ‘90s Nostalgia
Jeep has unveiled nostalgic special editions of the Wrangler SUV and Gladiator pickup truck. Known as the Rewind special editions, they’re inspired by the Easter Jeep Safari concept previously shown by the automaker. In the case of the Wrangler Rewind, this marks the sixth of 12 special-edition Wranglers to be revealed as part of the ongoing Twelve 4 Twelve campaign. The Rewind editions feature a slew of exterior and interior flourishes, along with additional standard amenities—and for a fairly reasonable premium over the standard Jeep Willys models they’re based on. If you enjoy an SUV that stands out as much as the Wrangler Rewind, you could get a Ford Bronco Big Bend with the colorful Free Wheeling Package for $46,030, including destination. That pack includes a reflective graphics package, gloss-black painted steel wheels, and more. Its 300-hp EcoBoost engine is more powerful than the Jeep’s, too. Toyota While the Toyota Tacoma may not look as cool as the Gladiator, there are several trims available for under $50k, including the TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road. You can also get it with the impressive i-Force Max hybrid powertrain at this price point, which beats the Jeep in efficiency and produces a lot more power and torque. The Tacoma is also more refined than the noisy Jeep. These Ford and Toyota rivals may be more modern, but the Jeeps’ off-road capabilities, nostalgic flair, and unique features like removable doors still add up to a formidable package. Tesla Marks Final Model S and X Run With $159K Signature Editions
The OGs Get One Last RunAfter raising prices on existing Model S and Model X inventory, Tesla is reportedly offering a final Signature Series for the two outgoing EVs through an invite-only program. According to reports shared by Sawyer Merritt on X, the EV maker plans to build 250 Signature Model S units and 100 Signature Model X units, with the latter available only in a six-seat configuration, as a proper send-off before the Fremont line that built the nameplates is converted for Optimus humanoid robot production. The Signature models won’t come cheap. Both the Model S and Model X Signature are reportedly priced from around $159,000 (excluding destination fees), with the delivery expected to begin around May 2026. These final editions do feature a few distinguishing touches over the standard versions, though they do not appear to introduce any major updates beyond exclusive styling. Hey everyone, was a bit busy today, but I got a chance to speak with a couple customers who were offered a @Tesla Model S and Model X Signature Edition, the final versions of the Model S/X that will ever be produced. Contrasting gold accents appear on the Tesla logo and badging, including the Plaid script, which denotes the performance-focused trim. The carbon-ceramic brakes also feature gold calipers, though the Model X Signature gets red ones instead. Inside, the cabin comes with a white interior, Signature dash badging with a unique numbered plaque, and gold Plaid seat badges. Given the Plaid badging, both the Model S and Model X Signature editions are expected to feature a tri-motor setup producing 1,020 horsepower and sending power to all four wheels. The Model S Signature rides on 21-inch wheels, while the Model X Signature gets 22-inch wheels. In addition, these limited-run models come with the Luxe Package, which includes a four-year protection plan, free Supercharging, and Premium Connectivity. Sawyer Merritt/X The Future Moves OnReports also state that Tesla is planning a final send-off event for the Model S and Model X in May, said to take place “at sunset.” While the two may not remain in the lineup, they leave behind a significant legacy in the automotive industry as models that helped push the boundaries of what electric vehicles could do, beginning in the 2010s. More affordable alternatives, the Model 3 and Model Y, will remain on sale, while Tesla also pushes ahead with Optimus and its robotaxi plans centered on the two-seat Cybercab. That last title is especially relevant. One thing that has been uncovered since Joe Gibbs Racing sued former competition director Chris Gabehart in February is a conviction from the defendant that Coach ...Keep readingView the full article

The Crown Vic Everyone Forgot—Before It Became a Ford Icon
When Ordinary Becomes IconicOn the surface, the Ford Crown Victoria was as ordinary as it got. Yes, it has a V8 and rear-wheel drive, but it had zero performance intentions whatsoever. Besides, the reason it had those was that it followed the tried-and-tested recipe for traditional, full-size American sedans that rode on a ladder-frame chassis. It's a dinosaur, and a relic from days gone by. The fact that its chassis wasn't changed from the Carter to the Obama Administration tells you just how old it was until it was ultimately retired in 2011. And yet, the 'Vic is a well-loved car with legions of fans from coast to coast, and even around the world. Of course, the most well-known version of the Crown Victoria was the one made from 1998 to 2011. That's no surprise, given that every police and taxi agency had these in their respective fleets back in the day. It was the de facto cop car and taxicab, and its headlight pattern was permanently etched in everyone's minds. It gets all the attention, yes, but there's one version of the 'Vic that we say deserves a little more love and appreciation. Ford The Aero Vics of the '90sThe name Crown Victoria was first used in the '50s as the Fairlane Crown Victoria. It was used for only two model years, from '55 to '56, and the name would return in 1980 as the top trim level on the now-downsized Panther-platform Ford LTD. In 1983, all full-size LTDs were renamed LTD Crown Victoria to differentiate them from the smaller midsize versions, a designation that lasted until the model was retired in 1991. In 1992, the LTD prefix was dropped to usher in a new era of full-sized Ford sedans. Now just called Crown Victoria, it was a radical departure from its boxy predecessor. Carrying the internal code of EN53, its arrival came in at the right time, too, as General Motors overhauled its range of full-sized B-Body models that consisted of the Chevrolet Caprice, Buick Roadmaster, and the often-forgotten Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser. Ford A Gamble that Paid OffThe early '90s were an interesting time for traditional large American cars. It was initially thought that both Ford and GM wouldn't build these body-on-frame sedans past the '90s, but sales proved strong enough through the '80s to keep them on the road a little longer. Both companies made big gambles on design, each taking vastly different approaches. In the case of the Crown Victoria, it picked up where the Taurus left off, with a smooth, aerodynamic design. It's that very reason why these were called the Aero Vics, and design elements from its smaller sibling were pretty evident. It had a six-window arrangement, slim headlights, and the no-grille look that automakers tried to make a thing in the early-'90s for the sake of aerodynamics. Despite criticisms of the rather blank-looking nose, the first full year of Aero Vics sold well for its class. If anything, its redesign was better received than the Chevrolet Caprice, although we think both look great now. Maybe it's the rose-tinted glasses. Ford The SpecsAlthough the looks are very '90s, its chassis dates back to 1979. The Panther platform was a response to GM's downsized B-Body models from 1977. While the frame was, indeed, the same, Ford did more than enough changes to the chassis to make it drive and ride like a more contemporary vehicle. That same frame would continue to receive updates even after this generation was replaced. Its new engine was a big deal, too. For the most part, the LTD Crown Victoria came with a 5.0-liter V8 with 150 hp in its final iteration. There was also a 5.8-liter option with, hold on tight, 180 hp, typically reserved for law enforcement applications. The new Crown Vic (as well as the Mercury Grand Marquis) benefitted from the new 4.6-liter Modular V8, and despite the smaller displacement, made more power right out of the box with 190 hp. Okay, it's not a lot of power by today's standards, and it'll easily be dusted off the line by a modern-day Honda Civic. But one has to remember that power ratings were far more conservative over 30 years ago. Still, if 190 hp wasn't enough, a dual-exhaust option bumper that up to 210 hp. As for trims, there were base, LX, and, for 1992 only, the Touring Sedan. Of course, there was also the Taxi Package and Police Interceptor. Ford Constant UpdatesCrown Victoria buyers who aren't cab drivers or police officers are typically more conservative. Hence, in 1993, Ford added a grille to the car to address those who didn't like the look of the first batch of models. At the rear, it also gained a reflector above the trim piece. Oh, airbags and cupholders were added, too. However, there were far greater changes made for '95. Its interior was now aligned with the Grand Marquis, and the dashboard would remain largely unchanged until the end of the Crown Victoria's production. Towards the end of '95, it also received a new four-spoke steering wheel that better integrated the airbag. The front grille was revamped, along with a much larger set of tail lights, a repositioned license plate holder, and new wheel designs. '96 saw a minor bump in torque ratings. Both single- and dual-exhaust models received an additional 5 lb-ft, with ratings of 265 lb-ft and 275 lb-ft, respectively. Horsepower, however, remained the same at 190 hp for single-exhaust and 210 hp for dual-exhaust versions. Ford Why Was it (Mostly) Overlooked? It's not that the Aero Vics sold poorly. For the most part, it consistently sold over 100,000 units throughout its production from 1991 to 1997. Total production was estimated at 630,000 cars over its life. But perhaps the biggest problem of the first standalone Crown Victoria was the lore surrounding the Chevrolet Caprice from the same era. The last (real) Caprice's legacy was practically built upon the 5.7-liter LT1 engine. Despite being introduced later in its life, it boosted the car's image, and the Impala SS further elevated its status. Law enforcement waxed lyrical about it too, relegating the Crown Victoria of the early to mid-90s as 'the other cop car.' The Aero Vic briefly had its moment in the sun in 1997, after the Caprice was discontinued a year prior, but by then, the newer, now more familiar version of the Crown Vic was about to arrive for 1998. Still, if that version of the Crown Victoria flopped, the legacy of that name might be entirely different today. It wouldn't be held in the same reverence, and there wouldn't be repeated calls to bring it back. The Aero Vics walked so that the second-gen Vics could run and establish themselves as an icon. With Ford planning to bring back sedans at some point, perhaps there's room for a new-age Crown Victoria. For as long as it's large and rear-wheel drive, we're good with that - anything but bringing back that nameplate as a crossover. Why Porsche Built This Mercedes—and Why It’s Back on Display
German CollaborationIt's now very common for automotive brands to work together; we see the likes of Porsche and Audi signing agreements to share platforms, technology, and, probably, people, to develop next-generation models. This practice is considered a cost-effective way to build and develop new cars. Back in the day, it was more of an individuality-driven industry where it was more important to one-up the competition. However, the very rare occasions when brands worked together produced some iconic cars; one has just been brought out on display at the Mercedes-Benz Museum. Mercedes-Benz Who Would've Thought? While Mercedes-Benz and Porsche are direct competitors today, before they weren't. Not many of each brand's cars competed against the other, but sales being sales, both still had a healthy rivalry. Fate had intervened for both brands, which would end up working together on a very special car. On display now at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart is the last-ever E500 sedan, with just 262 miles on the odometer. Back in the late 80s, Mercedes wanted to create a model to rival the BMW M5's growing popularity. At the time, the model responsible for that challenge was the W124; the problem lay in the conception of a performance model. While Mercedes had the V8 engine, the wide-body fenders needed for the W14 didn't fit in the assembly line. This led them to contact the neighbor brand Porsche, which, at the time, was cash-strapped, and an agreement was eventually reached under which Porsche would receive the parts and hand-assemble the cars themselves. Mercedes-Benz View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article New Heritage On DisplayPorsche was also involved in the tuning of the chassis and suspension. It was one of the original sleeper models, and under the unassuming W124 body was a V8 making 322 horsepower. The display car is even rarer, being one of just 500 built under the exclusive "limited" trim level. It features special leather interior and iconic EVO 2 rims. The 1995 Mercedes-Benz E500 is part of a limited display at the brand's museum, the Youngtimers exhibit. While the E500 is certainly a centerpiece of the collection, the rest of the display cars are no slouch. Notable models include the 190 E 2.5, E 60 AMG, and SLR McLaren Roadster. This unique exhibit will be running from April 11 until May 31, 2026. Mercedes-Benz View the full article

Can the 7,000-LB Rivian R1T Electric Truck Beat a Corvette Z06?
EVs vs Supercars, AgainWith electric vehicles like the Tesla Model S Plaid dominating quarter-mile races, it has become widely accepted that EVs can keep up with nearly any supercar under these conditions. But would that still hold in this particular matchup from Carwow, where a Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06 faced off against a Rivian R1T that is roughly twice its size and belongs to an entirely different segment? The Corvette Z06 is a track-focused, street-legal supercar with 670 horsepower from a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 and a curb weight of 1,685 kg (about 3,715 lbs). By contrast, the R1T is a utility-focused truck built for off-roading; this particular example features a quad-motor setup producing a combined 1,025 horsepower, though it weighs 3,170 kg (approximately 6,989 lbs). Corvette Strikes FirstThe first race was a rolling half-mile run, which played to the Corvette Z06’s strengths, as the R1T’s instant torque and all-wheel-drive system can give the electric truck an advantage from a standstill. The rear-wheel-drive Corvette won this race, as well as the 100–0 mph braking test, and another rolling race from a slightly slower 10 mph start. During the standing-start, quarter-mile races, the Corvette Z06 won the first two runs, even though the R1T initially launched harder. But after the Rivian turned off its stability control, the EV pulled off a comeback to finish the standing-start matchup with a 3–2 victory. In the video, the R1T completed the quarter-mile in 10.6 seconds – 0.7 seconds quicker than America’s sports car. carwow/YouTube Performance Isn’t One-DimensionalYes, there are much faster versions of the C8 Corvette, namely the ZR1 and ZR1X, with the latter using a twin-turbo hybrid all-wheel-drive setup that produces a combined 1,250 horsepower. However, the R1T Quad and Corvette Z06 occupy a similar price bracket, at roughly $120,000. It is worth noting that the R1T does not necessarily deliver better overall performance than the Corvette Z06. In theory, the Chevy should handle corners better and carry more speed through them than the electric pickup, especially when equipped with the optional Z07 Performance Package. Still, even though the two belong to entirely different segments, it’s fun to see a traditional ICE car try to beat an EV at its own game. carwow/YouTube View the full article

Volkswagen Still Eyeing a U.S. Pickup—But Still Has No Plan to Build One
Volkswagen has not ruled out launching a pickup truck for the United States, but company leadership says the idea remains in the early stages of evaluation rather than active development. Speaking with Autoblog at the 2026 New York Auto Show, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America Kjell Gruner said the company continues to revisit the possibility as part of its broader North American product planning. Related: All the Best Cars, Trucks, and Concepts We Saw At the 2026 New York International Auto Show “We’re still looking at it. It’s something that comes up from time to time, and we continue to evaluate whether there’s an opportunity for Volkswagen in that space.” The comment reflects ongoing internal discussion rather than a defined program. Volkswagen did not indicate any timeline, platform decision, or production plan tied to a pickup, and there is no evidence that a project has moved beyond the exploratory phase. A Familiar Idea That Has Yet To MaterializeThe idea of a Volkswagen pickup for the U.S. is not new. The company has long participated in the segment globally with the Volkswagen Amarok, a midsize truck developed for markets including Europe, Australia, and South America. Despite that experience, the Amarok was never adapted for the U.S., where regulatory requirements and competitive expectations differ significantly. Over the years, Volkswagen has also explored additional pickup concepts that hinted at a broader ambition in the segment. These have ranged from smaller, lifestyle-oriented trucks to more performance-focused ideas, including diesel-powered variants. None of those studies progressed into a production model for North America. Gruner’s comments suggest those conversations have not been abandoned, but they also have not advanced to the point of a committed program. In that sense, the pickup remains an open question rather than an imminent product. Separate From The Chattanooga Strategy — But Not Entirely UnrelatedVolkswagen’s recent production announcement adds useful context to the discussion, even if it does not directly confirm anything about a pickup. The company said it will end local production of the ID.4 at its Chattanooga, Tennessee plant in April 2026, shifting focus toward higher-volume vehicles, including the next-generation Volkswagen Atlas, which begins production this summer. At the same time, Volkswagen confirmed it is exploring “pathways for a new vehicle model” specifically aimed at U.S. consumers. No details were provided on what that vehicle might be. Volkswagen A pickup would align with that direction on paper, particularly given the emphasis on volume and market demand. While the production shift shows Volkswagen is recalibrating its U.S. strategy, it does not serve as confirmation that a truck is part of the plan. Related: Volkswagen Could Start Building Military Vehicles Strategic Fit Still Needs To Be ProvenEven if Volkswagen were to move forward, a pickup would present a number of challenges beyond simply entering a popular segment. The U.S. truck market is one of the most competitive and brand-loyal categories in the industry, dominated by long-established players. Any new entrant would need to offer a clear identity, whether that’s through design, capability, pricing, or positioning, rather than attempting to compete directly on traditional terms. Gruner indicated that these are the kinds of questions Volkswagen is still working through. “We have to make sure that if we do something like that, it fits the brand and fits the market. Those are the kinds of things we’re studying.” That suggests Volkswagen is not just asking whether it should build a pickup, but what kind of pickup would make sense for the brand. Volkswagen Still An Open QuestionAt this stage, Volkswagen’s pickup plans remain a possibility under consideration rather than a product in development. Gruner’s comments confirm that the idea continues to surface in internal discussions, but they also underscore how early those discussions remain. The broader context, including the shift in U.S. production strategy and Volkswagen’s renewed focus on high-volume, market-driven vehicles, helps explain why the topic is still relevant. But it does not change the fundamental reality: there is no confirmed program, no timeline, and no indication that a decision is imminent. The question, then, is not whether Volkswagen has considered building a pickup for the U.S. — it clearly has — but whether those discussions will ever translate into a product. View the full article
