Tool Testing: Putting Milwaukee’s New Ratchets Up Against Current Models, Plus The Best From Bosch, DeWALT, And More!
It’s time for some more tool testing and this time it is one of my favorite cordless tools, even though it took forever for me to start using one. I, like many of you out there, seem to reach for hand tools when a cordless or air tool is available to do the job quicker. It means things take more time and effort to do, so using the power tool is the smart way to go. Those folks who work on cars everyday know that these tools make you money if you can get a job done quicker, and of course all car junkies love tools so we want the cool stuff too. When I got my cordless ratchet, I bought it because it was too cheap on clearance not to. And I love how well it works to remove bolts and nuts that just take time to work off. They are a big time saver, that’s for sure, and even though mine is just a 12v unit, it absolutely gets the job done. But if you are shopping for a good cordless ratchet, which ones should you be looking at? Despite color, which one of these units is actually best? Video Description: Lifetime of weekly updated tool rankings spreadsheet: https://torquetestchannel.etsy.com/li… How does the new Milwaukee new M12 3053 compare to past ratchets from them like their high speed 2566, insider and high torque models? What about against the new Bosch GRC18V-60N which also looks fairly high speed? We take our first look at these new M12 ratchets as the 3053 ships, with more to come if you guys would like us to buy those as well! We do not accept any tools shown on the channel from any brand, nor do we take any sponsorships, partnerships, discounts, product placement deals, pre-market brand samples, money, items or compensation of any kind from brands, tool makers or otherwise in the planning or creation of these videos. Got An Air Compressor That Needs Some Love? Here Are Some Cheap But Super Effective Upgrades To Make It Work Best!
Unless you recently bought a new air compessor, you are probably like most of us and own at least one that is old. It might still work perfectly fine, but unless you have a super fancy setup you probably don’t have some of the higher end features like a dryer, muffler, and more. And it is all DIY so you can do the same thing on your own compressor at home. And to be fair, you don’t need an old compressor for these mods either. If you have a newer compressor that just doesn’t have these features, which makes up most of them that we might buy for our garage or shop, then you can totally do these upgrades yourself. Video Description: In this video I give my workshop air compressor a much-needed upgrade to make it quieter, cooler, and more reliable. I start by building a custom intake muffler to dramatically reduce compressor noise, making it far more workshop-friendly. From there, I install an air cooler and water trap to remove moisture from the system — a must for plasma cutting and long-term reliability. To finish things off, I do a general tidy-up, re-route lines, and give the compressor a fresh paint job to bring it back to life. If you’re into DIY workshop upgrades, tool modifications, or just making noisy gear work better, this one’s for you. The post Got An Air Compressor That Needs Some Love? Derek Menholt Charges to Provisional No. 1 Spot at World Series of Pro Mod
Montana native Derek Menholt’s success in the 2025/2026 Drag Illustrated Winter Series presented by J&A Service continued Thursday night when he raced to the provisional No. 1 spot in Pro Mod at the Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod presented by Red Line Oil. Behind the wheel of his Harts Charger-boosted ’19 Corvette, Menholt recorded a 3.568-second pass at 211.66 mph down the Bradenton Motorsports Park eighth mile to lead a list of 64 drivers attempting to break into the 32-car field. Thursday’s on-track action also included two qualifying sessions in Pro 10.5, as well as a shakedown session for True 10.5 and Lil Gangstas. Jerry Morgano is the provisional No. 1 qualifier in Pro 10.5 with a 3.829 at 203.98. Menholt, who was the runner-up at the most recent Winter Series race, the U.S. Street Nationals, tested extensively at Bradenton between races with his Scott Tidwell Racing teammates. Those efforts paid off when he came out strong in the first qualifying session at WSOPM, as Menholt posted a 3.579 at 207.46 to qualify No. 2. In the final pair of the second session, he improved to a 3.568 at 211.66 to take the No. 1 spot. “It’s huge for us just to even get to race with the guys we race with,” Menholt said. “PRC built a great car. [Tuner] Steve Petty, Pro Line, everybody that’s touched this car has been good since we came out for the Snowbirds, so I’m excited to see how it finishes up here. I mean, we were expecting to run well, but probably not number one. I think tomorrow morning, when the conditions are really good, we might see some numbers shift a little bit, but we’re glad with where we’re at right now.” Menholt swiped the top spot from Bradenton Motorsports Park co-owner Victor Alvarez, who ended the first qualifying session as the provisional No. 1 qualifier. His 3.571 at 210.80 in his Harts Charger-boosted Right Trailers ’69 Camaro gave him the $5,000 Pro Line Racing “Off The Trailer” Bonus. He came back in the second session and improved by a thousandth, a 3.570 at 210.73, to sit second. “We’ve got a good car,” Alvarez said. “We’ve done a ton of testing and a lot of work in a little amount of time. My guys have been killing it. Jamie Miller’s been killing it. Harts Charger, Pro Line, all the companies behind us – M&M Transmission, FuelTech, Innovative Racecraft. We’ve got a really good crew, really good support, really good equipment, and we do not quit. We’re here to put up a fight. I want these guys to know that we’re here, and I would say we’ve made it very clear that we’re here and we’re not messing around.” Stevie “Fast” Jackson, winner of the $75,000-to-win U.S. Street Nationals, qualified No. 3 with a 3.571 at 210.24. He rolled into WSOPM with a completely different car than the one he drove to victory at Bradenton a month ago. After winning in his screw-blown Motion Raceworks “Shadow 3.0” ’68 Camaro, Jackson and his Killin’ Time Racing team converted the car over to NHRA-legal trim to chase a third NHRA Pro Mod world championship. Crew chief Jeff Pierce and his father, Dave, offered up their M&M Transmission “Purple Heart” ’68 Firebird for Jackson to finish out the Winter Series. He moved up to No. 2 in the points standings with his U.S. Street Nationals win. “It’s really an awesome thing for somebody to ask you to drive their car,” Jackson said. “I’ve said this publicly: I think Jeff’s the best there is with a door car. He allowed us to put a KTR SF-1 engine in this thing. It’s got big power, the thing’s comfortable, it’s fun to drive. I love the wrap, love the theme, and everything that’s on it. When I was getting in the car, watching all the military folks and first responders and police officers up there taking pictures with it, it really got me going. I can hear [Al] Tucci on the mic talking about it. It’s pretty cool. Fans love the car. I never thought I would race a Pontiac, and I never thought I would have a Pontiac qualified in the top five of the World Series of Pro Mod. The guys are having fun. It’s one of them weekends where I think you might see it in the winner’s circle at the end.” Johnny Camp, who qualified No. 1 at the first WSOPM at Bradenton in 2023, went to the No. 4 spot with a 3.577 at 210.67 in his ProCharger-boosted “Hells Bells” ’69 Camaro. Past NMCA Pro Mod champion Eric Gustafson, who’s also contending for the Winter Series championship, rounded out the top five in his ProCharged Coast Packing Company “Lard Machine” ’69 Camaro with a 3.581 at 209.23. In Pro 10.5, Jerry Morgano also continued what’s turning into a hot streak at Bradenton. The longtime Outlaw 10.5 proponent earned his first win in seven years at the U.S. Street Nationals last month, and like Menholt, tested extensively since then. After a parts issue plagued his first qualifying attempt, he came back in the second session and threw down a 3.829 at 203.98 – one of the quickest passes in Outlaw 10.5 history – to distance himself and his turbocharged, small-block-powered ’02 Cobra from the rest of the field. “It’s a lot of work. For the guys that are behind me – Anthony DiSomma and guys like that – this is awesome,” said Morgano, who’s No. 2 in Winter Series Pro 10.5 points. “Wade [Rich] did a great job with the track there. My guy went up and I said, ‘How’s the track look?’ They said, ‘It’s pretty damn good, so if you got a run you want to put in it, put it in it.’ I clicked the boost controller one more and we made a great lap. That’s the best lap the car’s ever made. Best 60-foot the car has had in five or six years. I knew these cars can run low 3.80s in this class; you just gotta get lucky and put it all together. It came together on that one. So it was really, really cool.” Pro 10.5 points leader Nick Agostino qualified No. 2 in his turbocharged, small-block “Cannoli Express” ’69 Camaro with a 3.899 at 202.39. Carson Baker, No. 1 qualifier at the U.S. Street Nationals, ended up third with a 3.917 at 197.39 in his Harts Charger-equipped Polaris Offroad ’24 Camaro. Pro Mod qualifying will continue Friday at 9 a.m., followed by final qualifying in Pro 10.5, another shakedown for True 10.5 and Lil Gangstas, and final qualifying for the index classes. Pro Mod Q4 is set for 2 p.m. with Pro 10.5, True 10.5, Lil Gangstas, and Super Pro first round of eliminations to follow. Pro Mod final qualifying will close out Friday at 6 p.m. General admission tickets are available for $40 on Friday and Saturday. Active military and children ages 12 and under get in free. VIP packages are also available. Fans can watch the race through the official event livestream on www.FloRacing.com. For a detailed schedule, tickets, and other event info, visit www.RaceBMP.com. Zizzo Racing Celebrates Rahn Tobler Upcoming Hall of Fame Induction
For decades Zizzo Racing has competed on the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series racing the Rust-Oleum Top Fuel dragster across the country at select national events. The part-time team with a full-time team attitude is led by team owner Tony Zizzo, driver TJ Zizzo and crew chief Mike Kern with an assist in recent years from legendary crew chief Rahn Tobler. Prior to the historic Gatornationals Tobler will be inducted into the Don Garlits Drag Racing Hall of Fame and TJ Zizzo along with his entire team could not be more excited for Tobler who has been instrumental in the impressive progression of their Chicago based Top Fuel team. “I love Rahn for so many reasons and I am so excited for him to receive this amazing honor,” said Zizzo. “He has been a great help to this Rust-Oleum team on and off the track for decades. His attitude is amazing and his knowledge, attention to detail and giving spirit fits in perfectly with our organization. He has no ego and I am so thankful he has been part of our team working with Mike and the rest of our Rust-Oleum crew. We have known he was a Hall of Famer for years.”Tobler is one of only three NHRA crew chiefs to win championships in both Top Fuel and Funny Car, capturing 65 races and counting across both disciplines. Between 1980 and ’82, Tobler led NHRA legend Shirley Muldowney to two NHRA and one AHRA Top Fuel titles and was part of her 1977 NHRA championship team. Tobler led Cruz Pedregon to the NHRA 2008 Funny Car championship, and Ron Capps to the 2016 title as part of Don Schumacher Racing. Tobler’s impact extends beyond titles as many assistants who have worked with him have gone on to great achievements on their own, including former-assistants-turned-crew-chiefs Dickie Venables, Eric Lane and John Collins. For decades he has simply been dedicated to drag racing and a career that started with a passion for drag racing, a relocation and a chance meeting. “When I was 15, my mom was transferred from Inglewood, California to Houston for her job, which I thought was the end of the world,” said Tobler. “I used to bag groceries at a grocery store as my afternoon job and there was an auto repair shop that always had the front overhead doors open. One time I caught a glimpse of a front engine top fuel dragster sitting in there. I went by this shop for probably about a month just hanging around and then one day they asked me if I wanted to go to a race with them. This was the Stevens and Venables operation, which was Dickie Venables’ father, and they were going to go to Amarillo for the world finals in 1971 and I jumped in this single cab pickup with them. That was kind of the start of it.” When Tobler got the call from the hall of fame he was honored and humbled. His long-time friend and Funny Car world champion Jack Beckman made the call and Tobler was thrilled to have that personal interaction. “Jack and I are good friends and talk regularly. He had indicated to me that my name was certainly going to be on the ballot when the ballots came around,” said Tobler. “He let me know that the voting came out and it was a landslide. This was the first time that I’d ever been on the ballot, so I felt very, very honored. It’s nice to be noticed what for what I’ve done for the last 54 years.” As a member of Zizzo Racing Tobler has been instrumental in building consistency and high performance with the team. Over the past two seasons the Rust-Oleum Top Fuel team has recorded No. 1 qualifiers and set team records for low elapsed time and top speed. Tobler’s insight and discussions with crew chief Mike Kern have made TJ Zizzo and the team one of the most feared part-time operations on the NHRA tour. For Zizzo the opportunity to be competitive has been a thrill for the season generation driver. “I really can’t say enough about Rahn and what he has brought to the team,” said Zizzo. “When he is at the track, he is constantly looking at our dragster and talking to the guys on the crew. I have never felt more confident in the performance of our team. I am so happy for Rahn to be going into the Hall of Fame.” Zizzo Racing will make their 2026 NHRA season debut at Route 66 NHRA Nationals at Route 66 Raceway, May 15-17. Ryan Oehler and Brayden Davis Bring Fresh Power to the Gators
By any standard, third generation motorcycle drag racer Brayden Davis gave a stunning performance last year—his first on the big stage of NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle competition. Veteran racer Flyin’ Ryan Oehler thinks his team has found the performance to keep Davis’s results right where Brayden— his new teammate—is used to having them. The Flyin’ Ryan racing / B&K Cylinder Heads Buell is Brayden’s first big cubic inch V-Twin ride, and he loves it. “We tested this past weekend at Gainesville Raceway and it was my first time ever riding a Buell,” said Davis. “I can honestly say it was some of the most fun I have had in a long time. The torque these bikes make is unreal and every shift wants to carry the front tire. It definitely got my attention in a good way.” “The bike was lifting the front wheel and spinning down track,” agreed Oehler. “He was fighting it and it was fighting him.” Fighting all the way to a stout 6.81 at 198.93 on Brayden’s first full pass. “We ran some really strong numbers and mile per hour for a first outing, testing with Ryan and his team,” continued Davis. “That gives us a lot of confidence heading into the opener, and I could not be more excited about where we are as the season kicks off.” That would be at the always fantastic Gatornationals at Florida’s Gainesville Raceway on March 6-8. “Ryan saw potential in me and knew I did not have a ride lined up for this season, and was willing to help me get back out there. I am thankful for the opportunity and the belief they have shown in me.” “He’s a prodigy,” noted Oehler. “First time I’ve had a teammate that’s probably a higher caliber rider than I am. We want to see him win as bad as I want to win. In theory, he should be quicker than I am by several hundredths.” In theory, and one would expect Davis to get much quicker with more than one full pass on this entirely new-to-him beast. But for this test session, it was Oehler that was quickest, starting with a 6.78 at 199 using the same combination he ended last year with. It’s been a productive winter at Oehler’s Illinois shop. “Bad Brad (Ryan’s dad Brad Oehler) works seven days a week, twelve hours a day making horsepower,” said Ryan. “We picked up big power on the dyno with our new motor. A ton of torque and ton of horsepower. The highest accelerating motor we’ve ever had.” With the weather looking iffy for the second scheduled day of testing, Oehler went ahead and put that new motor in at the end of day one and ran a 6.75 at 200.8. “The point was to validate the gains we’ve seen on the engine dyno.” Point made. In a fair and reasonable world, Oehler would have been the 2018 NHRA Rookie of the Year. He broke through with his first win at 2020’s COVID-scheduled Indy 1 E3 Spark Plugs Nationals race, then won again at the DENSO 4-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas in ’21. Since then, the results sheet has been admittedly lean for Flyin’ Ryan. “Our team has stuck together through four years of struggles since we switched to the Gen2 motor program looking for more durability. We’ve managed to keep El Bandido Yankee Tequila on board though all of this. “We’ve cracked some eggs and now we should be a major threat. The development continues, this just affirms the direction we’ve taken. “And S&S is helping us with parts and development. They have deep resources there in Viola.” Having a talented rider like Davis on the team gathering reliable, relatable data should help as well. Then there’s the added benefit of having great racing personalities like Brayden and his dad Travis—and their experience—on the team. “Brayden and his dad remind me of the relationship I have with my dad. I really want Travis to be a part of this. I want to see what we can all do together. I love Harleys, and to race them is unique and something I want to share.” How many races Oehler gets to share that with the Davis family this season relies on the same circumstances that Brayden—and every racer—always face: funding. “Right now we are looking for marketing partners to help us run the full 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season,” said Brayden. “As of today, Powertrain Inc. has stepped up for Gainesville, Charlotte, and Adel (South Georgia Motorsports Park—AKA Valdosta). I’m super blessed and grateful to have them back onboard and will hopefully get them a win that they very much deserve within these three races. We are working hard to put the full program together and make the most of this opportunity. I want to thank them and Ryan Oehler Racing, Mike Mullaney, and Brad Mccoy with Mccoy Motorsports for all their help with this transition.” Brayden is in the right place to learn the art of the deal. “We are probably the most underfunded team in the class,” said Oehler, whose true privateer team always shows up looking like a million bucks. Oehler’s El Bandido Yankee Tequila sponsorship cannot be shared with Brayden, who is only 20 years old. But Oehler has done an exceptional job of hustling together the partners to keep his operation on track for the long haul—an important part of those Rookie of the Year requirements that Oehler clearly exhibited at the time he was deprived of the award. There’s a lot here—to go along with the accumulated knowledge of his own family—for Brayden to learn about how to keep his growing racing career rolling. And to that end, Oehler thanks the many people and companies that keep his trailer rolling from track to track. “Huge shout out to Scott Hamilton, Brad Mccoy, Mike Mullaney, Bill Anderson, Brayden Davis, Donny Philpott, and Jay Regan. There are so many great people who support this team and I can’t thank them enough. El Bandido Yankee Tequila, Burromax, Worldwide Bearings, High Performance Lubricants, Limelite Graphics, NGK Spark Plugs, CP-Carrillo, S&S Cycle, Fast Lane Classic Cars, Silver Star Painting, MRE, Manley performance, Jesel Valve Train, Nut Scentz, AirTec, Redline Motorsports, McCoy Motorsports, Mullaney Cycle Works, Bates Leathers, Liberty’s Gears, Morris Packaging, Powertrain Inc, Fire Suppression Solutions, Wanna Parlay, The Detail Specialist, High Performance Marketing, Johnstone Supply, Capitol Group, Martin One Source, Mission Foods, and NHRA. They have made all this possible and I am very fortunate to have their support! “And last, but not least, my beautiful wife Laura. Thank you for being the heart of our family. I’m beyond blessed to have you by my side.” If you’re not fortunate enough to be at Gainesville Raceway to watch all the action in person, you can watch pass after pass live on NHRA.tv, or the big show at 10:00 am Eastern time (qualifying) and 12:00 pm (eliminations) on FS1 Sunday, March 8.
