Top Fuel Motorcycles Back in Action This Weekend at First IHRA Triple Crown Event of 2026
The insane, 1600+ horsepower Top Fuel Motorcycles (TFM) are back on track this weekend, June 19-20, at IHRA’s Triple Crown race at Darana National Trail Raceway, Hebron, Ohio. With eight supercharged, nitromethane-burning bikes, it will be the biggest field in many, many years for these mythical beasts known as the Kings of the Sport. Larry “Spiderman” McBride will start the run for his 25th title as the favorite. He and brother/tuner Steve McBride have spent their careers being nearly unstoppable in their quest for wins and records, and this season doesn’t start out seeming any different. Or does it? Eighth-mile racing doesn’t play to the McBrides’ natural advantages, but that’s what they’ll be running this year with the IHRA. That gives the other seven bikes in the field for this weekend’s $30,000-to-win extra hope – not that these guys are lacking in confidence as they pursue two-wheeled nitro glory. Racer Mitch Brown also owns Monster Race Products, which produces a brand new, billet cylinder head for inline 4-cylinder nitro bikes. He’ll have one sitting on top of the bike he co-owns with Dennis Bradley. Pro Mod driver Todd Martin helps tune the bike’s FuelTech controlled and fired system. Bob Malloy will also sport the new Monster head and FuelTech control on his Chuck Redfern-owned, Sam Wills chassis with a supercharged Puma I4. In addition, Malloy will be competing in Top Fuel Harley on his own record-setting Buell. Finland’s Jaska Salakari rides an entirely different beast: a blown, dual overhead cam, 4 valve per cylinder, hybrid fuel “Harsh” V-Twin of his own design. Bikes of Jaska’s design are the only V-Twins to ever run 5 second quarter miles. Ohio’s own Jason Pridemore will be on his unique, home-built, blown Nitro Harley. This beautiful jewel is always ready to bust out an eye-popping lap. Maine’s Micah Fenwick has a John Alwine-designed, blown, ATF-1 inline 4 in his frame rails – a rider and bike combination that gets quicker every lap. Class newcomers Gerald Hunt and Richard “Sandman” Deys will both be debuting motorcycles they purchased from David Vantine. These bikes were built by the McBrides and are similar to Larry’s. Canadian rider Hunt will bring his turbo Pro Extreme Motorcycle experience to the bike that Vantine successfully campaigned for many years and will – like Vantine did – have the help of fellow Canadians Pollard Nitrosports. Upstate New York’s Deys is on the recently-built bike that has yet to turn a wheel in competition. Fans can come out and see the incredible bikes that will have every nitro-head on the property staring in wide-eyed disbelief and admiration. Special thanks go out to Wayne and Donna Pingel for seeing to it that these two-wheeled marvels get the coverage that they deserve. This story was originally published on June 16, 2026. Strong Qualifying Run Highlights Jasmine Salinas’ Return to NHRA Competition in Bristol
After more than a month out of the driver’s seat, Top Fuel pilot Jasmine Salinas proved that the Valley Services Scrappers Racing team should not be taken lightly despite their part-time status in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series. The talented up-and-comer qualified in the top half of the competitive Top Fuel field this weekend at the Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals but fell to Shawn Langdon in the opening round of eliminations. Nevertheless, Salinas is leaving Bristol Dragway with gratitude for the valuable seat time as she continues to seek full-time sponsorship. With a newly revamped track surface, qualifying kicked off with a lot of tire smoke across the nitro categories on Friday with only a handful of drivers making full passes. By Saturday, Scrappers Racing crew chiefs Todd Okuhara and Adem Cave found the right combination, tuning Salinas to a powerful pass of 3.822 seconds at 326.00 mph, the best of the session, in her 12,000-horsepower machine. Salinas began eliminations from the No. 8 spot on the ladder to face No. 9 qualifier Langdon. The Valley Services Scrappers Racing dragster ran into issues early in the run and Salinas ceded the win to Langdon. “Overall, it was a good weekend, especially after sitting out for over a month,” said Salinas. “Consistency is especially key when you’re a part-time team. Any seat time we can get is valuable, so we were glad to be back out in Bristol and racing with NHRA. Being a full-time Mission Foods Series driver is still the goal and we’re headed in the right direction. We were able to get some good data. Because they just resurfaced the track, it felt like we were learning it all over again, along with everyone else. Q3 was a really great reminder, for everyone else out there as well as ourselves, of what we are capable of doing. Getting the low E.T. of that round was really good. I don’t think we’ve qualified up that high for a long time. When everyone else is on their ninth start of the season and we’re only in our third, sometimes it feels like we’re playing catch up. We’re going to keep working on it.” The Scrappers Racing crew will head to the Columbus area next weekend to compete in the IHRA’s Triple Crown event at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio. Salinas will be joined by her father and Scrappers Racing team owner, Mike Salinas, who will be charging down the lanes in a Top Fuel dragster for the first time in over two years. Strong Qualifying Performance in Bristol Indicates Good Things to Come for DeJoria
Alexis DeJoria, the driver of the Bandero Café Funny Car, landed the best qualifying position among her John Force Racing teammates at this weekend’s Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, Tennessee. DeJoria, who won this event in 2021, qualified second in the category but made an early exit on race day against her teammate Jordan Vandergriff. Bristol Motor Speedway recently resurfaced the track at Bristol Dragway and NHRA competitors were eager to begin collecting data on the renovated drag strip. In a sport where data is key, the playing field inevitably evens out when a new element is introduced. The first qualifying opportunity on Friday went up in tire smoke for everyone in the Funny Car category, and the second resulted in more of the same for the Bandero Café team. On Saturday, crew chiefs Mike “Zippy” Neff and Jonnie Lindberg expertly tuned DeJoria’s Chevrolet SS Funny Car, recording an impressive 4.010-second lap at 326.00 mph, the fastest of the session. Her pass solidly placed her in the No. 2 position on the ladder going into race day. DeJoria had lane choice over Vandergriff, who landed in the No. 13 spot with a run of 4.548 at 191.73, in the opening round of eliminations. The duo launched within seven-thousandths of a second of each other and were neck-and-neck all the way down the track. Ultimately, Vandergriff got to the stripe first, making the first sub-four-second Funny Car pass of the weekend, a 3.999 at 322.88, to defeat DeJoria, who was right on his heels with a 4.028 E.T. at 326.24. “I didn’t see him (Vandergriff) all the way down, so I thought for sure I was going to see my win light turn on,” remarked DeJoria. “Right away, I heard Jonnie on the radio and he said, ‘Sorry, girl. We got outrun.’ I asked what they ran, and he said a 3.99. What can I say? That’s a good run. And against our 4.02, it was a great drag race. There’s nothing else that we could have done. We weren’t trying to rotate the earth but we were trying to lay down a good, solid number. And that’s exactly what we did.” Despite this small setback, DeJoria is optimistic about the rest of the season with John Force Racing. “I’m looking forward to the rest of this year. Every one of my JFR teammates has won so far this season. We’ve been to a couple of finals and qualified really well this weekend. I know that at any one of these upcoming races, we’re gonna be leaving with a Wally. I know what we’re capable of and I know that people don’t want to race us because we’ve got it together. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made. Everything’s falling into place and I’m really comfortable in the car, cutting consistent lights and it shows.” DeJoria will have to wait two weeks before hitting the track again when the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series makes its way to Norwalk, Ohio, for the Summit NHRA Nationals, June 26-28. The Martin Lundqvist Racing Street Week Sweden Drag and Drive 1969 Camaro Project Continues! The 8HP and LS Get Custom Mounts!
I can’t wait to see Project 508 in person in Sweden in a few weeks! This project is in full swing and we are super excited about what is going on with this machine. We’ve got another couple videos to share below and will be bringing you more in the coming weeks as well. This drag and drive Camaro project sure has go some seriously sick fabrication going on and I can’t wait to see it all in person during Street Week 2026. In this installment we’ve got video showing the new 8HP90 transmission being attached to the LS engine that will power it all. It’s all going together, plus the engine and trans are getting custom mounts. Oh, and the car is also getting a custom front spoiler that makes me excited! I love new drag and drive builds, and because I’m going to Sweden this year for Street Week I am really excited that this new drag and drive build is being built at Auto Cut in Stockholm by Martin Lundqvist Racing Fabrication. This is going to be something special. Because they are in Sweden, they aren’t talking much in these videos and what they are say you probably won’t understand. We would crank up the Closed Captioning for the subtitles, but that wasn’t an option. We know this was a drag car in it’s former life, and it’s going to be ultra cool when it’s done. While they aren’t scrapping the entire car to start new, they are replacing a whole hell of a lot of this car. We can’t wait to see it coming together, because they are doing some really cool stuff with the Auto Cut cnc machines and water jets. This is some special stuff. Check it out. Our Final Gallery of Lost Buckeye Skips Day One Drag and Drive Photos! We’ve Got On Track Action and Checkpoints, and More From Day 2 Coming!
Here’s our third gallery of lost photos from Day 1 of Buckeye Skip’s Drag and Drive, and we’ve got plenty more where that came from! Plus, if you missed the previous photos we’ve got a link to those below as well. (Photos by Neal Sabo) When BANGshifter Neal Sabo said he was going to head down to Buckeye Skips 2025 Drag and Drive, to snap pictures and check out the cool stuff going on, we were like “Hell yeah!” He hit all three days, at Darana Dragway at Dragway 42, Quaker Dragway, and Kuhnle Motorsports Park and got all kinds of cool photos. He hit the checkpoints and the tracks and said it was an epic trip. The weather was pretty good, if not a bit cold at Kuhnle, but the racing was hot for sure. And then Neal got home, went through the photos, and sent me files on our dropbox. And that’s where yours truly dropped the ball. For some reason all these great photos never got posted and when we talked to Buckeye Skip himself about coming to cover the 2026 event, he asked what every happened to our 2025 coverage. Luckily Neal has no fear of throwing me under the bus when I deserve it, and I don’t have trouble taking responsibility, so we’re making up for it now! If you want to check out the photos, here is our first gallery from Day 1 and we’ll have more coming over the next several days as we’ll have a few galleries for each day of the event. Check them out, and get ready because Buckeye Skips 2026 drag and drive will be here before you know it. Uncharacteristic Early exit for John Force Racing at Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals
Rain wasn’t the only black cloud hanging over John Force Racing on Sunday at Bristol Dragway as all four of its teams were eliminated after the second round of competition in the Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals. The PEAK Chevrolet SS Funny Car team of Jack Beckman and the Cornwell Tools Chevrolet SS Funny Car team of Jordan Vandergriff were eliminated in the quarterfinals while the Bandero Café Chevrolet SS Funny Car team of Alexis DeJoria and the Speedmaster Top Fuel dragster team of Josh Hart bowed out in round one. Rain showers between the first two rounds halted the proceedings for a couple of hours before resuming. Beckman was looking for his third trophy of the weekend in Thunder Valley. He won the final round of the rain-delayed NHRA New England Nationals against Vandergriff in the second round of qualifying Friday, doubled up on his John Force Racing teammate in the final round of Saturday’s Mission Foods #2Fast2Tasty Challenge and qualified third for the Thunder Valley Nationals. The 38-time NHRA Funny Car event winner dispatched of Jeff Arend in round one, running 4.032 seconds at 320.20 mph to Arend’s 4.246 seconds at 254.28 mph. The first-round victory gave Beckman lane choice in round two against Daniel Wilkerson, who grabbed the holeshot (.061 to .079) and held on to win with a run of 4.041 seconds at 319.52 mph to Beckman’s 4.065-second run at 319.07 mph. “I would say good results over the weekend but not close to the performance that we were expecting out of the PEAK Chevy,” said Beckman. “We were able to close the deal on the Epping win Friday and won the Mission Foods #2Fast2Tasty Challenge on Saturday. But we only made it down the racetrack one out of our 4 qualifying runs. It was just a really tough racetrack. I know a lot of the guys are smiling and winking and saying ‘fresh asphalt and concrete’ but it’s going deeper that. There’s some issue going on this year with the glue on the track that is really throwing the crew chiefs a curveball. Theoretically, it’s the same for all of us so we’ll just have to keep plugging away and collecting data. In the first round today, we threw what we thought would be a safe run and it was enough to give us lane choice. But we easily should have been able to run 4 flat or a high 3.90 on the second run. We haven’t looked enough into the data to find out why the car slowed down that much. It’s a tough one because, on paper we should have been able to win that race. We’re marching up in the points but that halted our momentum. But we’re still going to leave with two trophies this weekend and I think it’s just going to make everybody a little bit more excited to roll into Norwalk.” Vandergriff beat DeJoria in round one with the second-quickest run of the event at the time, 3.999 seconds, but lost lane choice for round two to Ron Capps who ran 3.989 seconds. Vandergriff had a fantastic reaction time (.043 to Capps’ .065), but Capps ran low elapsed time of the meet with his run of 3.980 seconds at 327.43 mph to Vandergriff’s 4.040 seconds at 285.29 mph. “It was an interesting weekend for this Cornwell Quality Tools Funny Car team,” said Vandergriff. “The track was tricky all weekend. The heat was tricky all weekend. I struggled driving so to salvage a round win out of this weekend was huge for us. Unfortunately, that win was over our teammate Alexis in the Bandero Chevy. We had a good running race car on Sunday but it was definitely not the way we wanted to end it with one of the pan pressure switches shutting off the engine early as it started scuffing a piston. We’ve diagnosed the problem and we’re going to work on it this week. So, all in all, good weekend and the end of my first three in a row.” DeJoria and Vandergriff lined up against each other in round one, with Bandero Café Chevrolet SS Funny Car having lane choice over the Cornwell Tools Chevrolet SS Funny Car as a result of DeJoria’s No. 2 qualifying position. Vandergriff’s reaction time was seven-thousandths-of-a-second quicker (.058 to .065) and the Cornwell Tools Chevy ripped off the quickest Funny Car run of the event to that point of 3.999 seconds at 322.88 mph to DeJoria’s third quickest run of the session at 4.028 second run at 326.24 mph. “It was a great drag race and it’s just the luck of the draw,” said DeJoria. “Unfortunately, we had to go up against our teammate. The Bandero Chevy ran great. I didn’t see them all the way down. I thought for sure I was gonna see my win light come on. I asked what he ran and they said a 3.99. That’s a good run against our 4.02 so it was a great race. There’s nothing we else we could have done. We weren’t trying to rotate the earth, just trying to lay down a solid number, and that’s what exactly we did. We’ll get a week off and then go to Norwalk. I’m looking forward to the rest of this year. This is my first year with John Force Racing and we’ve had some really great success. I know that at any one of these races, we’re gonna be leaving with a Wally. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen here.” In the first pair of cars down the track, the Speedmaster Top Fuel Dragster had lane choice and Hart grabbed the holeshot by 14 thousandths of a second (.056 to .070) over Doug Kalitta. Unfortunately, an engine cylinder stopped firing shortly after the hit, slowing the run to 3.845 seconds at 321.12 mph to Kalitta’s 3.799 seconds at 330.31 mph. “I didn’t get into racing for the fame and I surely didn’t do it for fortune,” said Hart. “My motivation has and will always be exceeding my own expectations and conquering the career goals I have for myself. The Speedmaster team wants to win and not just one. We want them all. Thank you for all the love from the John Force Racing and NHRA fans and we’ll be right back at it in Norwalk in two weeks.” The 10th of 20 races of the 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series is the June 26-28 Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. Dirt Daily with Fred Williams. His Barn Find 1989 Land Cruiser FJ-62 gets a Dissent Off Road Rear Bumper!
Years and years ago I built a 1987 Toyota FJ-62 for my buddy Sean and I loved it. We painted it, lifted it, improved a bunch of suspension and drivetrain, and then he drove the hell out of it. It was awesome. They are like a miniature Suburban, or a big Four Runner. But these OG rides have bulletproof Toyota solid axles front and rear, are comfortable to haul you and your friends and the dog on the trails, and there are jillions of parts available for them. So it’s no wonder that Fred was excited about this barn find example and the possibilities for this project. In the video below, Fred is installing a brand new Dissent Off-Road rear bumper and spare tire carrier. The FJ comes with the spare inside, taking up valuable space, and making storing a bigger upgraded tire a bit more difficult. But if you use a carrier like the one here, you’ll save space and make life a lot easier when it is time to use the spare. Check it out. Video Description: The Barn Find ’89 definitely needed a stout rear bumper and I found one at Dissent Off-Road. Dissent makes body armor for lots of Toyotas, most of the Land Cruisers, some of the 4Runners and almost all of the Lexus 4×4’s. Have They Successfully Turned This Old Farm Truck into a Killer Street Machine Using Scrapyard Ford Parts! Bumpside Ford Goodness Part 4!
In Part 3 of the series, this beast went for its first test drive. Now it’s actually being put through its paces! Here’s the Part 4 video in the series, and that means actual testing! Yes, this thing is going down the road in this one with the body on it, and showing what it is made of on track as well. I love donor vehicle builds like this one. What I mean by that is when you buy a car, or parts from the wrecking yard, to build something new and exciting in a way it never was before. My 1956 Chevy station wagon for instance, has a 1994 Caprice 9C1 cop car chassis and drivetrain under it. It was a great way to get a modern efi drivetrain, plus big brakes and much better suspension, all while repairing the rusty floors. We used everything we could out of the donor cop car and it worked out great. In the video below, Tony is going to take suspension from a Crowne Vic and a Mustang, along with a nice stroker small block to make something cool as hell out of this old farm truck. Check it out and let us know what you think. And remember, while the aftermarket is awesome you can sometimes get just what you need at the wrecking yard if you are on a budget. Keep that in mind for your next build, because money saved on one project is money you can use for fancy high end parts on another! Spencer Hyde Makes Noise by Advancing to Quarterfinals of Thunder Valley Nationals
Sophomore Funny Car driver Spencer Hyde, the Canadian pilot of the Head Contractors and Engineers Funny Car, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals this weekend at Bristol Dragway. Hyde qualified in the top quarter of the field at the No. 4 spot, and was one of the most consistent cars on the property over the course of the weekend. “I feel a lot better coming into this weekend than I felt the last two weekends, just right from the start of qualifying through race day,” said Hyde, who was the 2025 NHRA Rookie of the Year. “The car went down five out of six runs we made, and the one that it didn’t go down, it was really close to making it. It feels like we have our race car back, and I think we’re in a good spot going into the next race.” All the teams came into Thunder Valley blind, with no data for the new track surface. The first round of qualifying was not particularly good for anyone, but after that Hyde made one steady pass after the other. Hyde qualified in the No. 4 position based off his Q2 pass, a 4.030 second, 319.07 mph run. In the first round, Hyde was up against 2-time Funny Car World Champion Cruz Pedregon. The run ended up being a single for Hyde, when Pedregon’s car malfunctioned and his team had to back it up from the starting line. Hyde then went on to make a 4.001 second, 316.52 mph pass, securing the round one win. “I hate for the fans that it couldn’t have been a more competitive race in the first round, but a round win is a round win,” said Hyde. “The data we got for that run was great, and it allowed us to feel pretty good going into the quarterfinals.” While the first round may not have been competitive, the quarterfinals most certainly was. Hyde was able to duplicate his first-round elapsed time with a 4.001 second pass, and increased his speed to 323.50 mph. Unfortunately, it was not enough against reigning Funny Car World Champion Austin Prock, who made a 3.986 second, 323.50 mph run. “We lost a tough one there to Austin, but I’d rather lose a good drag race like that then smoke the tires,” said Hyde. “I was a little tardy on the light, but they made a good run. Jim was going to try and go a 3.97 or 3.98, but he backed it down at the last minute, put the same tune up in as E1, it went right down the racetrack, but it just wasn’t enough.” Now that Hyde and the Jim Head-tuned Head Contractors and Engineers Funny Car have nailed consistency, they are turning their sights ahead to the Norwalk race in two weeks. This is one of the most important races on the schedule for both Hyde and Head for a variety of reasons. “Norwalk is always a tricky racetrack, just because it’s going to be hot, and that track gets tricky when it’s hot out,” said Hyde. “But I am happy with where we are heading into that. And then it’s also both Jim and I’s home race, so it’s a big one for us. Lots of local fans for both Jim and myself coming up to that one. I’m really looking forward to that.” The Head Racing team will be busy on and off the track, hosting their loved ones and being recognized during the 75thanniversary of the NHRA. “I’ve got a bunch of people coming down, a bunch of my old crew guys from the Pro Mod days, and they’re all bringing their motor homes and trailers and coming to hang out, so we’ll have a hospitality setup in Norwalk,” said Hyde. “Jim’s also the local legend for that race for the NHRA’s 75th anniversary. They’re also using me as a Hometown Homie, since it’s the closest we get to my hometown in Canada. It will be the perfect race to represent Hyde Construction, OUTLAW Light Beer and the Caine Group.” Hyde and the Head Contractors and Engineers Funny Car will be back in competition in two weeks at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals on June 25-28 at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. There will be two qualifying sessions on Friday, June 26 and two qualifying sessions on Saturday, June 27. For tickets or more information on the NHRA Nationals visit www.nhra.com.
