  8. A strong start to the season has the chance to get even better for Funny Car’s Chad Green at this weekend’s 13th annual NHRA New England Nationals presented by bproauto at New England Dragway. Approaching 100 career starts in the Funny Car ranks, Green is off to the best start in his career, winning in Gainesville and Chicago and currently sitting third in points in the loaded Funny Car category. This weekend, he’s also sporting a new look with bproauto, adding another layer of importance to the race at New England Dragway, which is celebrating its 60th year during the 2026 season. Doing well in his 12,000-horsepower bproauto/Chad Green Motorsports Ford Mustang at his sponsor’s race would be another huge moment for Green in what’s been a standout start. “The new bproauto livery looks so good on the track and we are ready to hit the New England Nationals with the blue, orange and white colors,” said Green. “The brand fits perfectly with the NHRA fanbase and our goal is put the CGM bproauto machine in the winner’s circle. “It’s really super amazing to see the position we’re in right now. Our car is running really well and I attribute that all to my team. We turned our car around at the end of last year and it really started performing well. This year, I think it’s just a continuation of that and it’s just gotten better and better.” Last year, Brittany Force (Top Fuel), J.R. Todd (Funny Car) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) picked up race wins, while Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel), Jack Beckman (Funny Car) and Matt Hartford (Pro Stock) earned victories in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge bonus race. This season’s event will again be broadcast on FS1 and FOX, with eliminations on FOX on Sunday beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET. It is the eighth of 20 races during NHRA’s 75th anniversary season and fans can expect a variety of highlights this weekend, including: A feature of the Tasca Cobra Jet with Funny Car team owner Bob Tasca III. On Friday, the first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a free, limited-edition NHRA New England Nationals presented by bproauto flag celebrating NHRA’s 75th anniversary and the 60th anniversary of New England Dragway. Green and points leader Ron Capps both have two wins this season, which means a victory at New England Dragway – a venue that fans have continually packed for more than a decade at NHRA events – would make him the first to three wins in 2026 in the category. He’d love to get a trio of 75th anniversary diamond Wallys, but it won’t be easy against a loaded lineup that also includes defending winner Todd, who is second in points, four-time champ Matt Hagan, Georgia winner Jordan Vandergriff, back-to-back world champion Austin Prock, who won on Sunday in Maryland, Beckman and Alexis DeJoria. Green is well aware of the competition level in the category, but it’s brought out the best in his team thus far and he’s confident it can continue the rest of the year. “It’s really tough to maintain a spot at the top because these are tough races,” Green said. “I know we’re going to have a good car, but I know these other teams have good cars, too. It’s going to be some really first-class, top-notch racing we’re going to see coming up. “For our team to be performing as well as it has been, it increases the confidence in everyone, not just my confidence as a driver, but my entire team. I can see it in them and I’ve got the best team I’ve ever had this year. We just want to continue to go out and pick up win lights.” Top Fuel’s Shawn Langdon is after a fourth straight win in 2026 to continue his dominant run. The points leader will be challenged by the likes of teammate and reigning world champion Kalitta, racing legend Tony Stewart, who was the Epping runner-up in 2025, Justin Ashley, Leah Pruett, Antron Brown, Josh Hart and Clay Millican. Six-time Pro Stock world champ Anderson won Epping for the third time last year over his long-time rival Erica Enders. His KB Titan Racing teammate Dallas Glenn claimed the world title in 2026 and is the current points leader, while others to watch include Aaron Stanfield, Hartford and Greg Standfield. A The event will also feature standout competition in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, as well as the popular snowmobile categories. Race fans at New England Dragway can enjoy the special pre-race ceremonies that introduce and celebrate each of the drivers racing for the prestigious Wally on Sunday and includes the fan favorite SealMaster Track Walk. The final experience of any NHRA event is the winner’s circle celebration on Sunday after racing concludes, where fans are invited to congratulate the event winners. As always, fans also get an exclusive pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet in Epping. This opportunity gives fans a unique chance to see teams in action and service their hot rods between rounds, get autographs from their favorite NHRA drivers, and more. Fans can also visit NHRA’s popular Nitro Alley and Manufacturers Midway, an exciting atmosphere that includes interactive displays, merchandise, food and fun for the entire family. NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series qualifying features two rounds at 5 and 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday, June 5 and the final two rounds of qualifying on Saturday, June 6 at 12:30 and 3 p.m. Final eliminations are scheduled for 11 a.m. ET on Sunday, June 7. 9. Within the Overland Expo community, we’ve met some amazing folks, and in a new series, we’re highlighting those individuals with great stories to tell. They love their rigs, they love the lifestyle, and we want to share their passion with our audience. Our first installment features Nolen Yapp, Overland Expo team member turned exhibitor. Today we’re sharing our chat with Cynthia Scheidau. Cynthia is a full-time overlander and often shares her knowledge with courses at Overland Expos. Before the weekend ever kicks off, Cynthia also lends a hand with exhibitor move-in, swag bags, and more. OE: Thanks for taking some time to chat with us! For starters, can you tell us a bit about yourself? Hobbies, travels, etc. CS: I have been traveling full-time in our DIY overland build since November 2025. I am never one to shy away from a DIY project. I’ve remodeled kitchens and bathrooms, refurbished and built furniture, installed and fixed plumbing and appliances, removed popcorn ceilings, installed molding, carpet, tile, hardwood, etc. So, building a tiny home on wheels was not something far outside my wheelhouse. I’m not afraid to get dirty, but love getting mani-pedis and enjoying a spa day. My love language is cooking delicious meals or crafting cocktails for others to enjoy. I have traveled all over the US, Canada, Europe, and Central America. From backcountry camping to staying in luxury resorts, I love it all. My favorite part of traveling is meeting and connecting with people. OE: That’s great. Sounds like you stay busy. How did you initially become involved in Overland Expo? CS: My hubby, Rodger, first attended West in 2023 after learning about it from friends. After coming home, he said I’d love it. We booked tickets for PNW. After PNW, I put together a few classes to teach at East. We missed the 2025 season due to kids graduating high school and college and building out our full-time rig. We are excited to teach and showcase our rig in the 2026 season. READ MORE: Booth Parties, Bingo, and More at Overland Expo PNW OE: And, how have you seen it change over the years? CS: Through teaching, participating in round tables, and being in DIY, we have come to make more meaningful connections year after year. OE: Obviously we all have at least a bit of a gearhead mentality here at Overland Expo. Tell us about your overlanding vehicle(s)! CS: Our first overlanding vehicle was a Honda Odyssey with a rooftop box stuffed with sleeping bags, pads, and a tent. We had a small camp stove, gallon jugs of water, and freeze-dried food. Next, we had a Land Cruiser. Over the years, that grew into a customized SmittyBilt Scout, and two rooftop tents. Our current rig is a 2003 Stewart and Stevenson M1083 with a DIY habitat with approximately 168 square feet of indoor living space. Photo by Cyndee Schneidau Photo by Cyndee Schneidau Photo by Cyndee Schneidau OE: What is one piece of gear you cannot live without? CS: My husband. He can fix anything. OE: When you’re not at an event, do you have a favorite spot to get away from it all? CS: It’s hard to pick a favorite, but our recent trip to Valley of the Gods, Utah was incredibly relaxing. OE: Do you all have any exciting plans for upcoming trips? CS: Next we’re heading to Overland Expo PNW and then Overland Expo Mountain West. After that we have a trip to Ireland and Scotland, followed by another trip to Overland Expo East. In 2027, after Overland Expo West, we will travel to Tuktoyaktuk, BC, and Alaska. OE: What led you to begin overlanding, and what keeps you on the road? CS: Being curious about the trails less traveled, and there’s so much yet to discover. OE: And lastly, tell us your favorite expo memory? CS: My favorite Expo memory was East 2024. We met a young man named Carson, who made knives that were works of art. Our son just started forging knives himself. When Wyatt approached Carson’s booth and shared that he makes knives too, Carson took the time to chat. We invited Carson and his wife, Ashley, to our camp for dinner that night. We sat around a fire and chatted and laughed late into the night. View the full article

  11. (Words by Jim McIlvaine, Photos by Kaleb Kelley) The third stop of the 2026 season of OPTIMA’s Ultimate Street Car series took competitors to their first West coast event at historic Willow Springs International Raceway. The full field was stacked with a variety of vehicles that spanned eight decades and competitive cars across a multitude of classes, including the After Dark Speed GTS Class, where Tony Prutch’s 2021 Corvette took home the class win, his first in the series. Prutch was aided in this win by a 100-point score on the Gearhead Classics Design & Engineering Challenge, but that wasn’t what made the difference for him on this weekend. Over the past two seasons, Prutch’s Corvette has done consistently well in Design & Engineering, posting an average score of 97.2 points out of 100. The real difference on this weekend for Prutch came on the track. Prutch has been locked in a tight battle for the points lead with Brandon Hurst and his 2022 Tesla Model S, which held a 12-point lead coming into Willow Springs. These two cars faced off four times over the last two seasons and in those meetings, Prutch’s Corvette held a 12.2-point average advantage in Design & Engineering, while the Tesla had a larger 25.5-point average advantage across the three timed events. When your average is 97.2 out of 100 and you need to find 12.6 more points, they’re going to have to come from some combination of the Falken Tire Road Course Time Trial, the Peak Performance Challenge and the Southern Roofing Autocross. Hurst had finished ahead of Prutch in each of their previous four meetings, including GTS Class wins at the first two events of this season. However, the difference at Willow Springs came in the timed events. For the first time in the last two seasons, Prutch held a one-point advantage over Hurst in the timed segments. While second-place finisher, Frankie Trutanic’s 2017 Corvette held a five-point advantage over Prutch in those same segments, that was not enough to overcome a 21-point deficit in Design & Engineering. Trutanic had been running in the Nine Lives Racing Lucky 7 Outlaw Class in recent years and Willow Springs marked his first return to an OUSCI title-eligible class. Based on how well his Buick performed in Design & Engineering in the past, we expect Trutanic will get back up to speed there quickly and present real problems for Prutch, Hurst and the rest of the field going forward. So how did Prutch overcome deficits against Hurst in the timed segments that were as large as 35 points over the last two seasons? He hired Downforce Coaching. Prutch will admit his Corvette was capable of winning before this weekend, but he wasn’t driving it up to its potential. Downforce Coaching came in and worked with him on the Willow Springs road course specifically, but also brought him up to speed on using his onboard telemetry to identify areas for improvement on the Southern Roofing Autocross and Peak Performance Challenge. The end result is a driver extracting more potential out of his car and a field that now has to contend with a car that performs as well on the track as it does off. In this series, that’s the combination it takes to win the Ultimate Street Car title. We’ll see if Prutch can make it happen in Las Vegas later this year! If you’d like to learn more about this series and how you can get involved in your street car, head over to www.driveoptima.com and check out a huge photo gallery from this event below. When Rob Lindsay started RJ Fab a few decades ago I doubt he thought he’d build a brand that covered so many cool builds in so many different disciplines, but this guy can do it all. From Pro Mods to Pre-Runners, Pro Touring machines to custom UTVs, and everything in between, if it needs custom fabrication then Rob has got it handled. And man do they build some sexy stuff. If you like weld porn and quality without excuses, they’ve got it covered. I bring up their reputation and quality so you’ll know that they know what they are talking about, and thankfully they are willing to share some of that knowledge. In the video below, Rob is talking about custom headers. And he’s not bashing on off the shelf headers, just commenting on why you might want custom headers and how to build them when you do. It’s not a step by step how to, but more a tips, tricks, and thought process kind of video that can give you some insight into what it takes so you can tackle a set yourself. Or not! Even if you don’t want to build your own headers, knowing these things will help you make a better choice when hiring someone to build them for you. Being better educated on what it takes not only keeps your expectations real, but lets you spot a BS artist as well. So check out the video below and let us know what you think. 14. The Mid-West Drag Racing Series has stripped the Jacob McNeal Racing team of all points earned at last weekend’s Shakedown at M’Town at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan and placed McNeal on probation for the remainder of the 2026 season, MWDRS officials announced yesterday. The announcement came after a post-race spot check found the team’s Pro Mod Cuda running an illegal blower pulley, allowing for 98% overdrive instead of the maximum 92% allowed. The infraction was discovered Saturday, May 30, by MWDRS tech officials after McNeal won his semifinal matchup with reigning MWDRS points champion Aaron Wells. Wells was then reinstated into the final round. It was noted that McNeal’s car had passed pre-race technical inspection earlier in the weekend. The MWDRS issued the following statement: “Regarding the actions of the Jacob McNeal Racing Team at Shakedown Saturday, May 30, 2026 during the semifinals. The McNeal Racing Team violated rules regarding the blower overdrive on their Pro Mod. The infraction was found during a spot check (by MWDRS Tech) after the car competed in the semifinals after passing pre-race technical inspection. “Due to the violation, the McNeal team was stripped of all points accumulated at the event. Furthermore, Jacob McNeal has been placed on probation for the remainder of the 2026 Mid-West Drag Racing Series season. Any further rule violations during this probation will result in the immediate suspension of competition privileges for the entirety of the 2026 Mid-West Drag Racing Series Season.” The statement, dated June 1, 2026 and released on June 2, was signed by MWDRS Race Director Ellen Eschenbacher and Lead Tech Inspector Josh Scott. The penalty has two central components. First, McNeal forfeits all points earned at Martin. Second, he is on probation through the end of the 2026 MWDRS season; if there is another rule violation, it will trigger a season-long suspension. McNeal’s team has publicly attributed the violation to a mid-race blower change, which occurred after the second round of competition. According to statements from McNeal – including a since-deleted video posted to social media – the team broke a blower in the previous round and the wrong overdrive ratio mistakenly ended up on the replacement unit during the swap. MWDRS has neither validated nor disputed that explanation. The MWDRS returns to US 131 Motorsports Park for the Northern Nationals July 31-August 1 for the next race on their 10th anniversary tour. 17. Cheap car and truck paint jobs have always been popular, whether in DIY stories in magazines, on the internet, or with companies like Earl Sheib and Maaco. Hell, Earl Sheib would paint any car for $19.95 when they first started in the late 1930’s and were still only charging $99.95 in the 1990’s! Maaco still offers cheap paint jobs, but the ultimate low buck spray job is going to come from home usually. That means that if you are DIYer then you need to pay attention to this one, but keep in mind that Tony and the crew are doing this with just one of the options for getting cheap paint on a car. There are several other options in the same ballpark, including options like Summit Racing Equipment’s own in house paint and more. Check out the video below to see just how thoroughly Tony and the crew do, or don’t, prep this thing and to see what paint they ultimately choose to use. Video Description: Do you need your awful looking car painted but can’t spend 5-10 GRAND? Ron Capps Motorsports (RCM) announced today a new partnership with OKUMA, naming the global leader in machine tool design and manufacturing the official CNC machining partner of the championship-winning organization. While this marks the first official collaboration between RCM and OKUMA, the relationship between the two extends back to RCM team owner Ron Capps’ days driving for Don Schumacher Racing (DSR). While at DSR, Capps experienced firsthand the advantages of utilizing engine components machined with high-precision OKUMA machine tools, capturing multiple championships and race wins with DSR Performance parts, a longtime OKUMA partner. Capps continued to lean on OKUMA and DSR Performance when he transitioned into team ownership in 2022 and considers the precision and accuracy behind the manufacturing process to be an integral part of his team’s success. Since ‘22, Capps has captured 11 national event wins, eight poles, and the 2022 Funny Car championship aboard the NAPA Auto Care Funny Car. “I’ve seen firsthand the level of detail that goes into everything Don Schumacher Motorsports does, going all the way back to my DSR days,” said Capps, the current Funny Car points leader, who has already clinched two race wins in three final rounds through the first seven events of the 2026 NHRA season. “At this level, there isn’t much room for error, and the smallest details can make a huge difference. Parts that are machined with OKUMA are known within the industry to be exact and consistent, and that’s one of the reasons we continue to rely on DSR Performance as one of our vendor partners. We know the quality behind the parts machined with OKUMA, and that’s a big part of not only our NAPA team’s success, but the success we’ve seen thus far with Maddi (Gordon) and the Carlyle Tools team. They came out strong right off the bat, with a couple of semifinal finishes and running that 340 (mph run) in Valdosta.” As part of the alliance, OKUMA will receive increased branding on both Capps’ NAPA Auto Care Funny Car and Gordon’s Carlyle Tools Top Fuel dragster at six events during the 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season, including this weekend’s NHRA New England Nationals in Epping, N.H. The partnership also includes hosting guests in the Ron Capps Motorsports pitside hospitality pavilion. Through its DSR Performance Racing Parts division, Don Schumacher Motorsports utilizes OKUMA CNC machine tools to engineer and manufacture high-performance engine blocks, cylinder heads, connecting rods, and other precision components used in championship-caliber racing applications. The advanced machining technology provides the accuracy and repeatability necessary to create complex components with extremely tight tolerances, a critical factor when producing parts built to withstand the demands of 12,000-horsepower nitro competition. DSM utilizes OKUMA’s advanced four and five-axis machining centers, along with automation and integrated probing technology, to deliver the precision and consistency required to produce parts at the highest level of motorsports competition. “Ron Capps Motorsports understands that precision is required at all levels to win championships, and OKUMA machine tools are the foundation for their V8 power plant,” said Chad Osier, President of Don Schumacher Motorsports. “The OKUMA machine tool accuracy and repeatability gives us the capability to efficiently manufacture complex components at scale and operate unmanned, utilizing their intuitive automation. Not to mention, OKUMA’s machine tool versatility has allowed us to expand and diversify our business in tractor pulling and production airframe and missile programs.” Ron Capps Motorsports returns to NHRA competition this weekend at the NHRA New England Nationals, June 5-7, at New England Dragway near Epping, N.H. Qualifying gets underway on Friday at 5:30 p.m. ET. The post OKUMA Joins Ron Capps Motorsports as Official CNC Machining Partner first appeared on Drag Illustrated. View the full article

  22. Mooresville Dragway, one of North Carolina’s longest-running drag racing facilities, is set for a major transformation under new ownership. According to a report by Joe Marusak of The Charlotte Observer, new owner Matt Erich plans to redevelop the 70-year-old dragstrip into a $50 million motorsports destination called Race City Motorpark & Social Club. The project is planned for the existing Mooresville Dragway property in Rowan County near Mooresville, long known as Race City USA. Erich told The Charlotte Observer the concept is “the motorsports version of a golf country club,” with plans calling for a 4-mile championship road course, a new eighth-mile dragstrip, around 70 climate-controlled car garages – described as car condominiums – and approximately 70 townhomes, referred to as luxury villas. While the development broadens the property’s scope well beyond drag racing, the eighth-mile dragway remains part of the plan. Mooresville Dragway debuted as a dirt track in 1956 and has operated as a concrete-and-asphalt facility since 1959, according to Erich’s comments to the Observer. The 270-acre project’s first phase is expected to include the new racing venues, the garage units, and a stone-and-timber clubhouse overlooking the property. Plans also include a lakeside infinity pool, a chef-driven fine dining restaurant with a terrace, a member’s lounge with a private bar, a whiskey library, a cigar terrace, professional-grade driving simulators, a gym, spa and recovery center, concierge auto detailing and maintenance, 24/7 private security, and gated access control. Erich told the Observer the project is entering its government approval phase. His goal is to be “shovel-ready” by October, with the first phase complete next year and the residential phase following in 2027-2028. The project would represent one of the most significant investments in a North Carolina drag racing property in recent memory, pairing the history of Mooresville Dragway with the growing private motorsports club model that has gained traction around the country. For a track located in one of the country’s densest racing markets – surrounded by NASCAR teams, race shops, performance businesses, and generations of grassroots racers – the plan positions the property as both a preserved racing site and a higher-end motorsports lifestyle development. Erich told the Observer the project is “about more than preserving a racetrack,” adding that it is also about protecting Mooresville’s motorsports culture and identity. “Motorsports helped shape Race City USA, and we believe the future of this property should continue that legacy,” Erich said. The project, if approved, would mark a new era for a venue that has been part of North Carolina’s drag racing landscape for nearly seven decades.
