  2. (Photos by Rick Bain, Ken Hughes, Darr Hawthorne) • The 68th annual Good Vibrations Motorsports March Meet at historic Famoso Dragstrip in Bakersfield, California kicked off the 2026 NHRA Heritage Racing Series. If you’re going to attend one nostalgia drag racing event the March Meet is it, with nitro qualifying and eliminations under sunny, near-perfect conditions with packed grandstands and Nitro Loving spectators. The March Meet features a mix of nitro-burning classes Nostalgia Top Fuel, Nitro Funny Car, AA/Fuel Altered as well as all the numerous sportsman and nostalgia eliminator categories. This event starts off the NHRA’s 75th anniversary with winners receiving the coveted March Meet trophy plus a special NHRA 75th Anniversary Diamond Wally. In Top Fuel Tyler Hilton defeated his uncle Mike Hilton in the final round with a 5.714-second pass at 265.09 mph (Top Speed of the Class). It was a family matchup, and this marked Tyler’s first March Meet victory despite the team’s four consecutive NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series. Hilton, driving his “Great Expectations III” is a 2016 McKinney Nostalgia Top Fuel dragster from Cincinnati, Ohio. He won the Family Final as Mike Hilton red-lighted handing Tyler the victory. Tyler Hilton defeated Bret Williamson in Round 1, and arch rival Pete Kaiser in Round 2. In Nitro Funny Car Mike Peck in his family run “Instigator” ’70 Camaro defeated Canadian Nathan Sitko driving the Hodgson Racing “Bubble Up” Firebird with a 5.581-second run at 261.70 MPH to Sitko’s 5.620 ET at 260.19 MPH. Peck defeated Derrick Moreira, Drew Austin and past Champion Bobby Cottrell in earlier rounds in Jim Broome’s “Speed Sport” Camaro. Peck’s funny car sits on a McKinney chassis, as well. Mike Peck and his family have been involved in NHRA drag racing for over 43 years, competing in various classes, having secured consecutive Heritage Series 7.0 PRO Championships in 2015 and 2016. Of note is Todd Plate’s 5.485 Elapsed Time, driving Eddie Knox’s “Problem Child” Camaro nitro funny car. Off the trailer he posted a jaw dropping 5.485 ET at 253.23 MPH, earning Knox the ARP Quickest Fuel Car at the March Meet $1,000 bonus! Eily Stafford has already proven she can handle the competition, winning the 2023 March Meet in a Nitro Pro Comp rear-engined Top Fuel dragster. She’s wheeled supercharged nitro and alcohol Fuel Altereds, hustled front-engined alcohol Dragsters, and now driving Don Nelson’s “California Hustler” Firebird. Eily qualified eleventh and lost to Ryan Horan in round one. AA/Fuel Altered Brandon Seraphine won the Fuel Altered class title in his ’32 Bantam-bodied Fuel Altered. In the final round, he nailed the win with a solid 6.144-second elapsed time at 206.89 mph on a bye run. Dylan Winefsky, driving Johnny West’s “Plan A” Fuel Altered could not return for the final after an engine failure in the Semi’s. Seraphine’s ET consistency in Qualifying put him into the #3 position. He described his March Meet as “honestly one of the best weekends of my life”. He previously won in the AA/Fuel Altered class back in 2016, and he returned in 2024 and is tuned by nostalgia racing veteran Jake Sanders. Wayne Ramay defeated Kin Bates Sr. in the March Meet Pro Comp final. Ramay took the Holeshot win with a strong pass 5.996 ET at 223.65, despite Kin Bates Sr. having a slightly quicker 5.942 ET at 226.41 MPH. In the Semi’s Bates ran a killer 5.905 to defeat Eric Krume. In the Junior Fuel final eliminations Montana’s Alan Hull defeated Ritchie Fenton from Livermore, California. Alan Hull ran 7.082 ET at 164.56 MPH. Fenton fouled, so Hull took the win light without issue. Steve Faller, from Lake Havasu, won the 7.0 Pro class title in the final round at the Good Vibrations March Meet. Faller, driving his ’32 Bantam, defeated Jason Vanderpool from Redding, California, also in a ’32 Bantam, with a run of 6.988 seconds at 190.39 mph. Vanderpool fouled with a -.018 reaction time, resulting in the win for Faller. Hans Jakob took the victory in the final elimination round of Nostalgia Eliminator 1 (7.60 Index) over Bakersfield’s Jason Barta, who broke out with his 7.589 ET. Eric Warner defeated Sam Hughes in the final round of Nostalgia Eliminator II (8.60 Index) at the March Meet. Warner, from Redding, Calif. won with a pass of 8.598 seconds at 153.45 mph. Hughes, from Washington ran 8.552 seconds at 152.80 mph but came up short in the final. In Nostalgia Eliminator III (9.60 Index) California’s Don Mallory, driving his 23-T Ford ran 9.623 ET at 127.46 to defeat Mike Munson, from Lake Trapps, WA, in his ’27 Chevrolet Roadster running a slower 9.707 ET at 128.57 MPH. The A/Gas trophy was won by Bakersfield’s Keith Morovich in his ’67 Chevy II over Tom Huggins’ ’63 Vette on a double breakout. In B/Gas, Neal Westbrook from Pixley, CA defeated Chris Diyco out of Buena Park in a close one, running a 8.617 to Diyco’s 8.612, Westbrook cut a solid .001 Reaction Time starting line advantage. Ojai’s Brian Smith drove his C/Gas ’69 Mercury Cougar to a victory on a double breakout over Eric Hopkins in his ’69 Camaro. In the D/Gas (10.60 Index) Final Round, another double break out as Porterville’s Tim Mulvihill in his ’68 Camaro ran 10.572, 128.33, defeating Dan Schrokosch from San Marcos, CA driving his ’71 Camaro, 10.540, 124.51. Nearly eighty entries in the Hot Rod Class made for seven tough rounds of eliminations with El Segundo’s Jesse Howe driving his ’67 Dodge Coronet to a victory over northern California’s Frank DeSousa’s ’63 Nova. Thanks to JEGS for supporting the Good Vibrations March Meet, they distributed 10% Off Coupons over the length of the event. Of course, ripping off the banners from the Staging Lanes overnight was sport for the fans! The timeless appeal of NHRA Heritage Racing at Famoso Dragstrip, one of its most legendary drag racing venues is unrivaled. From packed stands to thunderous nitro runs, finishing with Jet Cars, the Good Vibrations March Meet once again proved why it’s the must-attend event for any fan of old-school, nitro action, and it sets an ultra-competitive tone for the rest of the 2026 season. 3. 2026 Ducati Panigale V2 S Review Much has already been said about Ducati’s move to a smaller, lighter, less powerful Panigale V2. 5. Quick take: The Toyo Open Country R/T Trail bridges the gap between all-terrain and mud-terrain tires without compromising on or off-road performance. Toyo offers this tire in a wide range of sizes. It’s a great option for overlanding rigs that spend time on the pavement and in the backcountry. As much as I wish it were the other way around, 90% of the miles I drive are on pavement. For years, I ran various all-terrain tires, and while they served me well with low road noise, easy balancing, and respectable wear, there were more than a handful of times when I wished for something a little more aggressive during the other 10% of my driving. On a previous truck, I ran a set of true mud terrains, but my pavement miles chewed through the softer rubber compound, and towards the end of their service life, they absolutely roared at highway speeds. After experimenting with both ends of the spectrum, I think I’ve finally found my preference in the Rugged Terrain line of tires. My ZR2 is currently rolling on four Toyo Open Country R/T Trail tires, and after a handful of adventures, a particularly nasty winter, and plenty of on-road experience, I’m ready to give them a huge thumbs up. I’m 6 months into my Toyo Open Country R/T Trails, and with plenty of holiday interstate travel mixed in with some snowy conditions and some offroading, I’ve been more than impressed. When they initially arrived, I was honestly surprised by how aggressive the tread blocks looked. If you’ve shopped for tires online, you probably know what I mean when I say that not all tires lean that way in person. Online high definition and edited photos tend to give a much more defined look, and the flatter light once your tires arrive can leave you disappointed. That was not the case with the RT Trails. I’ll admit I went with a size that was going to test my tire clearance at full flex, but Toyo’s stated specs rang true, and they fit without issue. Now, let’s jump into their construction, how they’ve performed on the road, on the trail, and even in wintery conditions. Toyo R/T Trail Overview These R/T Trails use a hybrid tread block that combines characteristics of both all-terrain and mud-terrain tires to offer on-road performance and driving manners, along with off-road grip you can trust. Photo by Rick Stowe Photo by Rick Stowe On Road Performance I have approximately 2,000 miles of highway and interstate with the Toyo R/T Trails. I did take a 1 mpg hit in fuel economy with these tires, but we’ll get that in a bit. In terms of performance, I have zero complaints. The stop well, even on wet pavement, and so far the wear has been even. Road noise is more than reasonable, and passengers have noted that it seems quieter than previous hybrid tires that I’ve tested. This low road noise can be attributed to the variable pitch design of the tread pattern that Toyo uses on the R/T Trails. I run these just under the rated PSI for a slightly smoother ride, and they handle the pot holes, bridge transitions, and construction zones along the interstate without harsh feedback. READ MORE: Gear Showcase: Van Builders and Accessories Off-Road Performance My off-road time is a mix of gravel, two-track, and the occasional rougher trails. In all honesty, most of my more aggressive offroading is getting into and out of camping and fishing spots that drop off of forest roads. We had a very cold winter in my area, so the usual mud and muck haven’t shown up yet, but I have so far been very impressed with the R/T Trails in the backcountry. They bite in loose dirt and in rock sections, and they provide great traction during more “spirited” wilderness travel. Now that things are thawing out, I’ll have the opportunity to really test their traction in mud and clay, and I’ll update this review with my feedback on the aspect of off-road performance ASAP. Winter Performance The Mid-Atlantic area that I call home got more than its fair share of winter weather over the past couple of months. With plenty of time driving through every version of snow, ice, sleet, and wintry mix that I can imagine, minus deep drifts, I feel confident in my impressions about these tires when they’re put up against old man winter. I was honestly worried about. While these aren’t snow tires, for anyone looking for overall winter performance, I doubt you would be left wanting with the R/T Trails. 8. The 2026 season of NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series is heating up, and reigning world champion Justin Lamb has already begun to blaze a trail in the new year. Buoyed by a final-round appearance at the NHRA Pacific Division season-opener in Super Stock, Las Vegas-area resident Lamb is eager to get back on track, and he’s even more eager to do so as he launches into a multi-year partnership with LIUNA Local 872. When Lamb pulls into In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip for race two in the Pacific Division this weekend, the Chevrolet COPO Camaro that he races in Stock Eliminator, as well as his race hauler, will prominently feature the bold orange Laborers International Union of North America (LIUNA) branding. His championship-winning Super Stock Camaro will continue to spotlight RAD Torque Systems, making for a powerful 1-2 punch in the new year and beyond. “This is a really special partnership for me because I grew up in Las Vegas and still live and work there, and the members of LIUNA Local 872 are a huge part of building Las Vegas and keeping it running,” said Lamb, a business analyst for the City of Henderson, a suburb of Las Vegas. There are over half a million LIUNA members across the nation making up the most innovative, aggressive, diverse, and fastest-growing union of construction workers. Laborers Local 872 was established over 100 years ago, and its members have been an integral part in the elevation of one of the most well-known and visited cities in the world: Las Vegas. “Just like me, they’re all about working hard, solving problems, and supporting growth,” said Lamb. “It’s a natural partnership, and I’m looking forward to sharing success on the racetrack with the men and women who work so tirelessly to make my home town even better.” Lamb, the reigning Super Stock world champion, has four championships in Super Stock (2015, 2017, 2018, 2025) and two in Stock (2013, 2017), as well as nine Lucas Oil championships in NHRA’s Pacific Division: Top Comp (2003), Comp Eliminator (2011, 2012), Stock (2013, 2017, 2019) and Super Stock (2015, 2017, 2025). He enters the 2026 season with 34 national event wins in 52 final rounds and 36 division wins. He is one of three drivers to have won two national championships in one season (2017), and one of 29 drivers to have doubled at a national event. The Snyder Sportsman Classic at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip is the second of eight events in NHRA’s Pacific Division. It will take place Thursday, March 12 through Sunday, March 15. The NHRA Arizona Nationals will take place one week later in Chandler, Ariz., just outside of Phoenix. 9. The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) is thrilled to announce that Quarter-Max has officially signed on as the title sponsor for the 2026 IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series – Outlaw Pro Mod Class. This powerhouse partnership unites one of drag racing’s most storied sanctioning bodies with a brand built on 43 world championships and a legacy of dominance. Founded in 1987 and currently led by Pro Mod Champion Clyde Scott, Quarter-Max has become the industry gold standard for hardcore chassis components. Operating out of a massive 30,000-square-foot facility, Quarter-Max produces everything from championship-winning chassis to ultra-light carbon fiber components and heavy-duty 4-link systems. The decision to name Quarter-Max as the title sponsor was a natural fit, as the brand’s philosophy perfectly mirrors the intensity of the Outlaw Pro Mod circuit. “Our philosophy is simple: If it’s tough enough for a 5,000-horsepower Pro Mod, it’s the highest quality you can put on your car. We live and breathe this sport. Supporting the Outlaw Pro Mod Class allows us to give back to the racers who rely on our gear every single weekend.” The synergy between Quarter-Max and the IHRA Outlaw Pro Mod Class stems from a shared commitment to “hardcore” racing. This partnership highlights a dedication to proven reliability, as Outlaw Pro Mods serve as the ultimate testing ground where components must withstand the brutal forces of world-class speed. Furthermore, Quarter-Max maintains a deep commitment to the entire racing community. While the company builds for pro-level heavy hitters, its dedication extends to the weekend bracket warrior, ensuring high-end technology remains accessible to the entire IHRA membership. By bringing a culture defined by over 40 world titles to the series, Quarter-Max continues to inspire drivers to push their machines to the absolute limit. “We’re excited to welcome Quarter-Max as the title sponsor of the Outlaw Pro Mod Class for the IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series,” said Doug Foley Jr. “Quarter-Max has long been a cornerstone of the Pro Mod community, and their commitment to racers and the sport makes them a perfect partner as we continue to grow this series.” The partnership also comes as Quarter-Max continues to showcase its engineering capabilities with standout builds across the Pro Mod landscape, including Bubba Stanton’s newly unveiled Pro Mod Camaro – a car designed to highlight the strength and performance of Quarter-Max chassis technology. And as always, a big thank you to Joe for sending in such great stuff to share! (Words and Photos by Joe Grippo) Here in the northeast section of the country we are in the deep freeze so most of the fun stuff moves indoors. We took a break from off season race car upgrades and maintenance, and made trip to Lebanon, Pennsylvania to check out the DragFest Indoor Drag Racing Showcase. It’s a great static gathering of drag cars, show cars and more. A few area dragstrips were in attendance handing out 2026 schedules along with a few of the cars that are regulars at their facilities. Numidia Raceway and South Mountain Dragway were set up loud and proud. A bunch of racing clubs displayed member cars and promoted their upcoming appearances. Back Seat Drivers a group of vintage style front engine dragsters and the Mid Atlantic Nostalgia Drag Racing Association (MANDA) each dominated a few of the rooms at the Lebanon Convention Center. This year’s show had some amazing survivors and barn find type stuff. Check out the 1957 Ford with twin carbed Y-Block and Paxton Supercharger, the killer tunnel rammed big block chevy powered ’68 Camaro resplendent in B/MP trim, complete with a quarte window full of Atco Dragway kill stickers! Killer stuff. My favorite machine in show was the Survivor 1971 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler street machine; you can’t miss it in the gallery! A real deal time capsule from the early ‘70’s, this is one of only 353 Spoilers built in 1971, which is special enough, but the wild custom paint job and body work applied in ’73 is mind-blowing. The colors, design layout, and murals kept me coming back to it all day. And don’t sleep on the extra-stuffed diamond tufted custom interior with that crazy console! Scott’s got more photos coming, so stay tuned, and if you missed any of the previous photos you can use the link below to check those out too! (Words and Photos by Scott Liggett) It’s been a while since we added to our small town car show series here at Bang Shift. But, after attending the Weekend Of Wheels this past Saturday, we felt we needed to share the amazing cars we saw there. This year marked the 53rd running of this show in Grand Island, NE. The first 50 years, the Tri-City Street Rods car club ran the show. When they decided 50 years was enough, one of their members took over. Danni Oberg of Knucklehead Garage took on the task and he has been doing an amazing job. If you thought a car show in a small town wouldn’t have much to see, you would be so wrong. Over 200 cars showed up, filling up the Pinnacle Bank Expo Center with some amazing, high quality builds. Check out the galleries to see what those in the middle part of Nebraska have in their collections. Check out our third gallery below, we’ve got more coming! 16. So you think the new ZR1 is fast, but know the ZR1X is an absolute beast? We’ve all been hearing all about what they are both capable of doing, and it is nothing short of amazing. For decades I’ve said that no car beats a brand new Corvette with $10k-20k worth of mods, but now it looks like nothing beats it from the factory. This car is nuts, and this is the ultimate test to see just how nuts is nuts. Video Description: World First ZR1X Drag Race! We race the 1250-hp Corvette ZR1X against the reigning quickest car in the world, the Lucid Air Sapphire — against two cars most people would call “fast”: the brand-new BMW M2 CS and Volkswagen Golf R. The C8 Corvette ZR1X has all-wheel drive, mid-engined traction, and a twin-turbo, flat-plane-crank V8 — the full recipe to unseat the current champion: the 1234-hp, electric, Lucid Air Sapphire. We tried to dethrone the Sapphire using a 1500-hp Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport, and it didn’t work. We tried again using a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 — and the 5-passenger EV luxury sedan left the Supercharged Hemi for dead. This time, it could be different. Our test Lucid is equipped with optional Pirelli PZero Trofeo RS tires, which will give it a launch advantage relative to our last tests. And the Corvette is equipped with the ZTK track package. Its big wing adds aerodynamic drag, which will slow it down — but at the expense of downforce, which will likely help it put its power to the ground. But chiefly, ZTK includes extra-grippy Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires — and so this is, GM says, the quickest variant of the C8 Corvette on an untreated surface. GM claimed a 8.675-second ¼-mile performance on VHT with the base ZR1X and an 8.95-second run for the ZR1X ZTK on asphalt. Let’s see if our runway test can recreate that performance. Meanwhile, the last Lucid Air Sapphire we tested on a VHT-prepped drag strip managed a 9.002-second run, which means the Corvette could be quicker on VHT. But it only did a 9.1-second run on regular pavement: will the grippy Pirellis help it beat the Corvette? We’ll find out. And for perspective on the difference between a “fast car” and the world’s fastest-accelerating cars, we’ve brought along the hottest hot-hatch you can buy in America, the 328-hp, all-wheel drive Mk8.5 VW Golf R. And the quickest and most powerful small BMW, the 523-hp 2026 M2 CS. We’ll give the two “fast cars” a big advantage: the Volkswagen will have a football field’s head start, and the M2 will start at the same time as the 1200+ horsepower cars, with one less football field to cover. As always, Cammisa’s Ultimate Drag Race Replay uses instrumented testing gear and scientific methods to show you the world’s most perfect drag race — on regular asphalt, not a specially prepped, VHT-sprayed drag strip. This means you get a scientific, real-world result without those other guys’ “oops, I messed up the launch, so now we’ll never know which is truly faster.” And spoiler alert: this race is so close, even our GPS test gear couldn’t tell us which car won. The post World’s Quickest Car: Corvette ZR1X vs Sapphire vs “Fast” Cars — Cammisa Ultimate Drag Race Replay appeared first on BangShift.com. View the full article
  17. We’ve featured several Ironworks Speed and Kustom built cars here at BANGshift over the last couple of years, and with good reason. Roger and the crew at Ironworks Speed and Kustom have been building cars in Bakersfield California for decades, and we’ve seen all kinds of rides roll out of this place over the years. Street rods, hot rods, muscle cars, classics, and even some VWs. They’ve done their fair share of trucks as well, with almost everything done in house. Roger is pretty particular on their builds, putting Ironworks’ stamp on everything they touch, so that the owners of these rides end up with something that is unique and truly custom. It’s not cheap to have a car built nowadays, and especially at this level. A 1966 Chevelle is my favorite mid-size Chevelle, and this one is certainly something special. With a Magnuson Supercharged LT4 under the hood, and a Tremec Magnum 6-Speed backing it up, you know this thing will be fun to drive. And there are tons of custom touches on this car, whether it is the sheet metal inside, outside, or underneath. Plus a ton of work on chrome and bright work to make it look custom, but with a nod toward maybe being what GM might have done if they weren’t building a production car. It’s cool as hell. Check it out below. The post Video Car Feature: Check Out Bill’s Ironworks Speed And Kustom Built, LT4 Powered, Pro Touring 1966 Chevelle. appeared first on BangShift.com. View the full article
