  6. (Words and Photos by Chad Reynolds) I hit the Lone Star Throwdown in Conroe Texas this weekend and as usual was blown away by the turnout of great trucks. When I arrived at the just after it opened, I have to admit I was a bit worried. The place was not full. Not by a long shot. Now we normally get down here to the show an hour or so later, so I was trying to convince myself it was going to be okay, but I wasn’t doing a very good job of it. That was until about 10, when a definite increase in the hum around the places started happening and cruise traffic started really increasing. By the time I left the show a few hours later it was hopping as usual. And while the morning started off chilly and overcast, the grounds were in great shape with little or no wet spots from the showers that were expected Friday. And by 10 am I had to take my hoodie off because it was just too warm. It was great weather for a truck show friends. The food trucks were slinging snacks, although I didn’t see the hot chocolate ans s’mores folks from last year that made a killing. It really was a great day at the show. Lone Star Throwdown, or LST as it’s often referred to, is one of the premier custom truck shows in the country, and it happens rain or shine. This show is always one of my favorites. It draws folks from all over the country, along with Canada and Mexico. In 2027 you’ll find us on site with the OBS Suburban project you guys don’t know about yet. And maybe a merch stand, who knows. Here is our second gallery of photos, with tons more coming over the next several days. Check back tomorrow for more! 8. Drag Race Bracket Bonanaza (DRBB), the free fantasy game built for NHRA fans, is launching an exciting new season-long feature for 2026: the Major Moments brackets, a fan-driven celebration of the most iconic events from 75 years of NHRA drag racing. Beginning today, DRBB will roll out seeded brackets featuring the Top 64 major moments in each professional class: Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle.Throughout the 2026 season, fans will vote to determine which moments advance, ultimately narrowing each class down to its ultimate moments. The season will culminate in a final Overall Bracket, where players will crown the single greatest moment in NHRA history, comprised of the top 16 finishers from the four classes fan selected brackets. The first bracket, Top Fuel, is now open and will remain live through March 6, leading into the historic Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals. After each bracket closes, DRBB will publicly release the fan-voted results, giving the NHRA community a chance to see how opinions stack up and fueling debate across the sport. “Our goal is to bring fans into the conversation about the moments that define NHRA history,” said Elon Werner, creator of Drag Race Bracket Bonanza. “Every fan has their own list of unforgettable runs, upsets, records and championships. The Major Moments brackets give them a voice, and we’re excited to see the discussions, debates and passion it sparks all season long.” The Major Moments schedule for 2026: Top Fuel Bracket: February 23 – March 6 (leading into the Gatornationals) Pro Stock Bracket: March 30 – April 10 (between the Arizona Nationals and the Winternationals) Pro Stock Motorcycle Bracket: May 18 – May 29 (between the Route 66 Nationals and the Potomac Nationals) Funny Car Bracket: June 29 – July 17 (between the Norwalk Nationals and the Sonoma Nationals) Overall Bracket: August 24 – September 5 (between the Brainerd Nationals and the U.S. Nationals) The Major Moments brackets add a new layer of engagement to DRBB’s already popular free-to-play fantasy experience, giving fans a fun, ongoing reason to stay connected to the sport and to each other throughout the season. By releasing each round of fan voting publicly, DRBB hopes to ignite spirited conversations among friends, families and the broader NHRA community about what truly stands as the greatest moments in drag racing history. Fans can begin voting in the Top Fuel Major Moments bracket today at DragRaceBracketBonanza.com. They can find an example video of the bracket on the DRBB YouTube channel. 9. On Saturday night, the seventh winner of the Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod presented by Red Line Oil will be crowned as the 2025/2026 Drag Illustrated Winter Series presented by J&A Service wraps up at Bradenton Motorsports Park. The Pro Mod winner will walk away with $150,000 and a spot on the cover of the Drag Illustrated WSOPM Issue. The WSOPM weekend will also feature side-by-side action in True 10.5, Pro 10.5, Lil Gangstas, and a handful of supporting categories. As the DI Winter Series finale, WSOPM is also where series champions will be crowned in Pro Mod, Pro 10.5, and the Strange Engineering Lil Gangstas Championship Series presented by Melling Performance following the Snowbird Outlaw Nationals presented by Motion Raceworks in December and the U.S. Street Nationals presented by M&M Transmission in January. “All roads lead to Bradenton Motorsports Park,” said Victor Alvarez, BMP track owner. “The baddest boys and girls in the world are getting ready for war this week. The last two Winter Series races have raised the bar for the quickest 32-car Pro Mod fields in history, and I’m confident that mark will be reset again this weekend. We’ve had teams testing here ever since the U.S. Street Nationals to prepare for WSOPM. We’ve heard from fans who are coming in from outside the U.S. to be a part of this event. It’s going to be another can’t-miss show at BMP.” “Our racers and partners have poured so much into making the Winter Series a success, and the World Series of Pro Mod is the perfect stage to cap it off,” added Wes Buck, Drag Illustrated founder and WSOPM promoter. “Bradenton Motorsports Park gives us a world-class backdrop to crown winners, celebrate champions, and showcase the strength and momentum this series has built in just its second season.” The Winter Series Pro Mod championship hunt is wide open, especially with points-and-a-half on the line at WSOPM. Only 19 points separate points leader and Snowbirds winner Jason Harris and U.S. Street Nationals winner Stevie “Fast” Jackson, and Eric Gustafson is in third 106 points behind Harris. Snowbirds runner-up Sidnei Frigo is less than a round out of the points lead as well. Randy Weatherford and U.S. Street Nationals runner-up Derek Menholt are in contention, needing to go one round further than the top four drivers. John Doc, Kye Kelley, Kallee Mills, Peter Norton, and Billy Banaka also have a shot, but only if they go serious rounds and the top four drop out early. Remarkably, the top 32 drivers in Winter Series points are mathematically eligible. “The competition has been unprecedented,” Buck said. “We’ve seen drivers make career-best passes and still miss the 32-car qualified field. The top 32 are separated by just a few hundredths of a second. That translates into eliminations, where side-by-side races are decided by thousandths of a second. It’s no surprise that the points race is just as cutthroat.” The Pro Mod drivers who come up short for the main 32-car field will still get the opportunity to race on Saturday thanks to the Outlaw Light Beer Wild Card Shootout. It’s a full five-round, 32-car race for the No. 33-64 qualifiers. Still seeking a win in the Pro 10.5 Challenge Series, Canada’s Nick Agostino is the points leader there with U.S. Street Nationals winner Jerry Morgano and Super Bowl champion Fletcher Cox chasing him. In Strange Engineering Lil Gangstas presented by Melling Performance, Stephan Mallais is the points leader with his win at the U.S. Street Nationals, while Snowbirds winner Tommy Hoskinson and Chris Scarlata aren’t far behind. True 10.5 is also back for a third installment with $40,000 on the line, joining the $25,000-to-win Pro 10.5 and $20,000-to-win Lil Gangstas classes. Index racing is on the lineup as well in $4,600-to-win 4.60 Bike, Super Pro, 6.50, and 7.50 Index – all three $2,500 to win, and Jr. Dragster ($500 to win). Finally, the Larsen Motorsports Jet Dragsters will add a fiery element to the show on Saturday night. Teams will test at Bradenton Motorsports Park in the days leading up to Thursday qualifying. Drag Illustrated will throw a 20th Anniversary Party and WSOPM Kickoff presented by Motorsports Travel Service on Wednesday at Yard House in Sarasota from 6:30-11 p.m. Pro Mod qualifying is set to begin Thursday with sessions at 12:30 and 6 p.m. Racers and teams are encouraged to attend the Strange Engineering Racer Appreciation Party at the VIP tent when racing ends on Thursday. Pro Mod qualifying continues with three action-packed Friday sessions at 9 a.m., 3 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. Saturday’s pre-race ceremonies are scheduled for 9:45 a.m. followed by eliminations at 10 a.m. General admission tickets are available for $35 on Thursday and $40 on Friday and Saturday. Active military and children ages 12 and under get in free. VIP packages are also available. Fans can watch the race through the official event livestream on www.FloRacing.com. FloRacing will also offer a free stream of Thursday qualifying through its FloRacing 24/7 channel on Amazon Prime Video, Fubo, and YouTube. The exciting series is set to enjoy its 25th anniversary celebration in 2026, racing 11 times across the country with the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series. As part of the milestone campaign for NHRA Pro Mod, NHRA announced that it will stream qualifying coverage live and for free on the NHRA YouTube page on Friday and Saturday, as well as the first round of eliminations at all 11 events. The free streaming coverage on YouTube will include one round of qualifying each day, as well as the opening round of eliminations, which will take place either Saturday evening or Sunday. The fan-favorite category will kick off its 11-race season with the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville on March 5-8, before heading to the NHRA Arizona Nationals and returning to Firebird Motorsports Park for the third straight year on March 20-22. “NHRA Pro Mod being streamed live on YouTube isn’t just exposure — it’s proof of our evolution,” NHRA Pro Mod driver and Team Shelton Motorsports Owner Stan Shelton said. We’re a self-managed class with a clear identity, and this growth reflects the power of that model within the NHRA. We’re excited to celebrate the 25th year of Pro Mod in NHRA and we’re looking forward to a great season.” Last season was a representation of just how stacked NHRA Pro Mod is with talent, with the championship again coming down to the wire. Five different drivers won a race, but J.R. Gray enjoyed a spectacular season, winning four times, including the finale in Las Vegas, to claim his first NHRA Pro Mod championship. Still, the championship came down to a winner-take-all final round against Billy Banaka, with Gray taking the victory and the championship to close out another remarkable season in the category. Featuring the world’s fastest doorslammer race cars, the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series has continued to offer something unique and exciting for every drag racing fan. The class continues to grow in popularity and is highlighted by historic muscle cars and a variety of late-model American muscle cars, as well as several different power adders. For 24 years, the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series has also featured standout drivers and legendary names in the doorslammer ranks, including past world champions like Rickie Smith, Von Smith, Khalid Al Balooshi, Mike Janis, Troy Coughlin Sr., Mike Castellana, Stevie “Fast” Jackson, Jordan Lazic, Kris Thorne, Jose Gonzalez and many others. NHRA Pro Mod became an official national championship category in 2010, after serving as an exhibition or regional class. Now, it gets to celebrate its 25th year of competition in NHRA during a banner 2026, ensuring all fans get an opportunity to watch the incredible action all year. “The 2026 season is a milestone moment for NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, which continues to be one of the most exciting and unpredictable categories in drag racing,” NHRA Senior Vice President Evan Jonat said. “We’re proud to celebrate this anniversary across all 11 events this year and offer fans free coverage on the NHRA YouTube page. With a bigger spotlight, it’s a great opportunity for these talented drivers to showcase their skills and what makes this class so enjoyable to watch.” Following races in Gainesville and Phoenix, the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series will celebrate its 25th season with stops in Charlotte, South Georgia Motorsports Park, Chicago and Bristol to close out the regular season. The five-race “Road to the Championship” will feature stops in Norwalk, Indianapolis, Rockingham, St. Louis and the finale in Las Vegas. 11. Why the heck are there so many colors of engine coolant nowadays? I mean was there really a problem with green? And if the colors matter so much, why can you buy coolant that will work with any of them? None of this makes sense! Video Description: Why are there so many different engine coolant colors — green, orange, yellow, pink, blue, purple — and why does your car care so much about which one you use? In this video, we do a deep dive into engine coolant chemistry, explaining why different coolants exist, what they’re designed to protect, and what actually happens if you use the wrong one. This isn’t about color — it’s about corrosion protection, aluminum compatibility, water pump life, and modern engine design. We break down every major coolant type, including: IAT (traditional green coolant) OAT (Dex-Cool style coolants) HOAT (hybrid organic acid technology) P-OAT (phosphate organic acid technology) SI-OAT and other modern hybrid formulas You’ll learn how coolant really prevents corrosion, why some coolants protect instantly while others work locally over time, and how water pumps, seals, and mixed metals factor into coolant choice. We’ll also explain: Why modern engines can’t all use the same coolant Why “universal coolant” is a compromise Why mixing coolants can shorten component life What coolant actually lubricates inside a water pump How aluminum, iron, and mixed metals change coolant requirements If you’ve ever wondered why manufacturers moved away from old green coolant, or why a coolant change can cause problems years later, this video will connect all the dots. The post Why Are There So Many Coolant Colors? How did it get to THIS? Green Is Not The Only Color Anymore! appeared first on BangShift.com. View the full article
