Ram’s powerhouse pickup is back, and it’s busting into the New Year with some new upgrades and plenty of horsepower. Just shy of a year ago, the Ram TRX was discontinued, but thankfully, its absence was extended, and later this year, this beast will be back on Ram lots nationwide. The TRX has gained some performance bumps with 777 horsepower produced by the 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 versus the 702 of the original version. We got behind the wheel of the OG TRX, and with 75 fewer horsepower,

Upgrading to larger tires transforms the look and capability of Ford trucks across St. Louis, but it also changes the final drive ratio. This leads to sluggish acceleration, excessive downshifting, and weakened towing performance. Regearing restores lost torque and optimizes your truck’s drivability. This guide explains why F-150 and Super Duty owners experience power loss with 35–37 inch tires, how differential gears solve the issue, and what gear r

So…it turns out I have a bit of a problem with collecting travel and adventure-oriented bags. By last count, I had 37 of them, comprising duffels, totes, roller bags, suit carriers, laptop slings, laptop backpacks, camera bags, hiking bags, backpacking bags, and travel backpacks. They take up a ton of space, I’ve spent a king’s ransom on them over the years, and it is quite inconvenient to juggle gear between bags when I need to go somewhere. As an antidote, I did what any rational person would

For decades, birders, hunters, naturalists, and explorers have had two ways to magnify what we want to observe more closely. Binoculars are convenient to carry and provide moderate magnification, generally between seven and ten power—any more and they become increasingly difficult to hold steady. When more power is needed for distant objects or extremely detailed views of nearer things—a maddeningly difficult-to-identify Empidonax flycatcher, for example—we use a spotting scope, which provides s

Quick take: The Toyo Open Country R/T Trail bridges the gap between all-terrain and mud-terrain tires without compromising on or off-road performance. Toyo offers this tire in a wide range of sizes. It’s a great option for overlanding rigs that spend time on the pavement and in the backcountry. As much as I wish it were the other way around, 90% of the miles I drive are on pavement. For years, I ran various all-terrain tires, and while they served me well with low road noise, easy balancing

Electric vehicles are the future of automotive, with more and more automakers releasing electric models of their most popular vehicles. But every once in a while, a new brand will step into the market and start to garner attention. Rivian is one such newcomer whose R1T electric truck is making waves. Electric trucks are relatively new, with many big names like Chevy and Ford releasing EV trucks to appeal to those looking to be environmentally friendly and go gas-free. But the Rivian is more than

When a Quick U-Turn Became a Costly Lesson Last August, one of our flagship rigs — a V8-powered Jeep Wrangler 392 — rolled during a guest trip. The driver attempted a quick U-turn on a narrow mountain trail. It didn’t take much: a sharp cut of the wheel, a bit of off-camber terrain, while in 4 low range, and the Jeep tipped. The damage was extensive enough that repairs weren’t completed until early May of this year. Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt. But it was a wake-up call — for us and f

About ten years ago I was in the market for a reliable, foolproof anti-theft system for the Porsche 911SC Roseann and I owned at the time. I didn’t want the usual complex electronic type, with the siren everyone ignores. After quite a lot of research I landed on a device called the Ravelco. The Ravelco, visually, comprises a plug installed in the dash or elsewhere, incorporating a cluster of 16 female pin receptacles. A male plug, which rides on one’s keychain, fits into it, completing a cryptic

People love drama. Even when it’s not real. Owners of vehicles made by manufacturers that compete with Toyota especially love drama if it involves reliability issues with Toyotas. I remember when some first-generation Tacomas developed issues with leaking head gaskets. The howls among Ford, Chevy, and, especially, Land Rover owners reached shrill octaves: “SEE? SEE?” Ironically, the fact that Toyota’s reputation for building dependable vehicles is based on rock-solid real-world evidence is what

The ONE wildlife species I really wanted to see in Costa Rica was a sloth. I thought, how hard can it be? They literally move slower than molasses so it seemed as though they’d be easy to spot. I was wrong. Beginning on our first night walking tour outside Tortuguero Village with a guide I had my camera at the ready to capture one of these furry slow-moving mammals. Sloths are the sluggish tree-dwelling mammals found in the rainforests of Central and South America. An extremely
