Trump’s Latest Tariffs Spell Trouble for Hyundai and Kia
The Trump administration’s tariffs have continued to wreak havoc in the automotive industry in 2026. Just this week alone, Trump threatened Canada with 100% tariffs after it moved to lower its own tariffs on Chinese EVs. Trump believes Canada’s decision is disastrous and could result in serious economic consequences across North America. In the latest tariff saga to hit the auto industry, Trump has raised tariffs on South Korea to 25%. Last year, the U.S. and South Korea agreed to a trade deal for 15% tariffs on South Korean imports, but this new tariff hike stems from Trump’s accusation that Seoul is “not living up” to last year’s deal. The implication for Hyundai and Kia cars sold here is significant. Trump Unhappy With South Korea Hyundai In a new post on Truth Social, Trump confirmed his decision to hike South Korean tariffs from 15% to 25%, affecting multiple industries and products, including cars. “South Korea's Legislature is not living up to its Deal with the United States,” wrote Trump, before directly mentioning South Korea’s president. “President Lee and I reached a Great Deal for both Countries on July 30, 2025, and we reaffirmed these terms while I was in Korea on October 29, 2025. Why hasn't the Korean Legislature approved it? I am hereby increasing South Korean tariffs on Autos, Lumber, Pharma, and all other Reciprocal tariffs, from 15% to 25%.” Last September, the U.S. cut car tariffs on Japanese cars to 15%, which was part of a larger trade agreement between Tokyo and Washington. By increasing South Korean tariffs to 25%, Hyundai and Kia will be at an immediate cost disadvantage, giving Japanese brands a major edge in being able to keep prices down. South Korea responded to Trump’s announcement by calling for urgent talks with Washington, reports the BBC. Given that South Korean exports to the U.S. were worth around $123 billion in 2025 (with about $30 billion of that made up of cars), it’s in the nation’s best interest to negotiate back down to the previously agreed 15% tariff rate. Related: Big Win for Japan: U.S. Cuts Car Tariffs to 15% Starting Today What Models Are Affected? 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6 View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article Higher tariffs will place added pressure on the Korean auto brands as a whole, so price increases may not be limited to vehicles assembled in Korea—they could trickle down to Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis models built in the U.S., too. However, the impact will be more readily felt for models currently built in Korea. These include the Hyundai Ioniq 6, Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, Kia Carnival, and Genesis GV60. EVs are already under additional pricing pressure since the federal tax credit was scrapped last year, so they are especially vulnerable to rising tariffs. Many manufacturers have absorbed the cost of tariffs so far, only implementing typical 2026 price hikes for new or updated models. But this can’t continue forever, and the Korean brands will feel the pinch if the 25% tariff remains in place. Already, tariffs have been blamed for the Kia Tasman pickup truck's absence in America, and that was before Trump’s latest tariff hike. If you’re planning on buying a new Korean vehicle, it’s in your best interest to keep up with trade talks so you can buy before potential price hikes. WhistlinDiesel Says He Was Arrested Again At A Tennessee Airport
YouTuber WhistlinDiesel, whose real name is Cody Detwiler, says he was arrested again at an airport in Tennessee after arriving back in the United States, marking a new escalation in the legal situation that has followed him since his earlier tax related case. Reporting this week describes the detention as a second arrest connected to the same broader allegations, while Detwiler’s own Instagram post adds additional claims about how the arrest unfolded and why he believes it happened. What The New Arrest Is Tied ToDetwiler has already been in the spotlight over tax evasion allegations tied to vehicle purchases and registration, and this latest arrest appears to be linked to that same dispute. In his Instagram statement, he says the second arrest was triggered because a second vehicle listed in the indictment was purchased in a different county, which he claims led to another warrant being filed, resulting in him being taken into custody at the airport rather than being allowed to turn himself in. View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article What He Claims Happened At The AirportDetwiler claims the arrest involved more than 25 officers and agents, with involvement from the Tennessee Department of Revenue and the jail, and he says he never received any letter or notice saying he owed tax before a case was built. He also claims the case centers on two cars registered in Montana that were destroyed in other states, and he singled out an individual he described as the lead agent on the matter, while stating the situation is about to escalate. Those specifics are coming from Detwiler’s own post and have not been independently verified in the reporting currently available, but they are shaping how the story is spreading online. Why This Story Keeps Traveling Beyond The CourtroomDetwiler’s audience has long followed him through stunts, exotic car content, and controversy, which tends to amplify any legal development into a broader narrative about car culture and consequences. The same attention loop that drives interest in spectacle also fuels curiosity around other Youtube-related content. In Detwiler’s case, the mix of high visibility and legal complexity is likely to keep generating headlines as authorities and court records catch up to the claims being posted to social media. VinFast Is Betting on Self-Driving Tech to Rescue Its U.S. Push
VinFast Needs All the HelpVinFast's first steps in America have been pretty shaky. There have been teething problems with the cars, and sales collapsed dramatically last year. Still, the Vietnamese automaker isn't giving up, but it needs all the help it can get to stay relevant. With that, the company is ramping up tech development, particularly in the field of autonomous mobility. VinFast has saddled up with AI firm AutoBrains to get things started. The two will be collaborating on several projects, chief among which is a 'Robo-Car' with full self-driving capabilities. Taking a Page from TeslaSo, what will VinFast's FSD be like? One of the goals that the automaker wishes to achieve is to develop a camera-based autonomous driving system built at a lower cost with quicker development times. It will build on the company's current level 2 assists and, with the help of AutoBrains, boost it from there. It will be similar to Tesla's approach, adapting a camera-based system with ultra-high-speed processors. But with the assistance of AI, both companies reckon they can build their own systems more quickly and at a fraction of the cost. The processor is said to be capable of performing 20 trillion operations per second. An even bolder claim is that they can develop it without the need for LiDAR, radar, or high-definition maps. Tesla Real-World Testing? At the time of writing, a pilot program is already underway in Vietnam. A couple of VF8 and VF9 models have been fitted with the system and are roaming around the streets of Hanoi. Mind you, it's in a controlled environment for now, but VinFast says public road testing will be done soon. There is no definite timeline for the public rollout yet. Perhaps it's VinFast's way of managing expectations. It's better to iron out the kinks that use customers as its test subjects. VinFast's been burned by vehicles that felt underdeveloped, and it's safe to say the company wouldn't want that experience all over again. Vinfast View the full article

First-Ever Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Sells for $1.25 Million
Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale Auction this past weekend has returned some epic results for American sports cars. Already, a one-off Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X sold for $2.6 million—far beyond the base price of $218,100. But Ford also saw a major result for the first-ever example of the new Mustang Dark Horse SC. Revealed earlier this month as the hottest non-GTD Mustang, this supercharged muscle car is expected to cost in the six-figure range, but the first production model sold for a lot more than that. A Seven-Figure Muscle Car B VIN 001 of the 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC with the Track Pack sold for $1.25 million, or roughly ten times what we expect it to cost when Ford releases official pricing. As with the first production ZR1X, 100% of the Mustang’s hammer price will go towards a charitable cause. In this case, Breakthrough T1D will benefit from the sale of the Ford; this organization works to accelerate breakthroughs to treat, prevent, and cure type 1 diabetes and the condition’s various complications. Back to that $1.25-million hammer price, though. To put it into perspective, it would have been enough to buy almost four Mustang GTDs, and it far exceeds the $565,000 sale price of the first Mustang S650. The first Dark Horse SC is not anywhere close to the most expensive Mustang ever sold, though. That honor goes to a 1965 Shelby GT350R prototype, which sold for a staggering $3.85 million back in 2020. Dark Horse SC No Ordinary MustangA moment that brought the room together. VIN 001 of the 2026 @Ford #Mustang Dark Horse SC Track Pack crossed the block for $1.25 million, with every dollar benefiting @BreakthroughT1D. Learn more: https://t.co/3rOJIYKrbN pic.twitter.com/5NoqoUihUM — Barrett-Jackson (@Barrett_Jackson) January 25, 2026 Positioned as a successor to the previous Shelby GT500, the new Dark Horse SC also uses a supercharged V8. Displacing 5.2 liters, this V8 lump produces over 700 horsepower and is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Tuned for carving up race tracks rather than just going quickly in a straight line, the SC can be equipped with an optional Track Pack (as equipped to VIN 001) that adds items like carbon-ceramic brakes, variable traction control, carbon fiber paddle shifters, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 R tires. It should be capable of a blistering time once Ford sets it loose on major tracks like the Nürburgring. Inside, the Dark Horse SC features the flat-bottom steering wheel from the GTD, and it can be equipped with Recaro sport seats in a mix of leather and Dinamica; these seats are included with the Track Pack. Related: Ford Built a New GT500, Then Refused to Call It One How Much Will A Dark Horse SC Cost You? 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse DC Track Pack Ford View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article As mentioned, Ford has yet to disclose pricing for the Mustang Dark Horse SC. But don’t read much into VIN 001’s $1.25-million hammer price—the first production examples of significant sports cars come with special bragging rights and often sell for far more than the average enthusiast will pay. The most recent Shelby GT 500 sold for around $80k when new, but it was last on sale for the 2022 model year. Considering rising car prices since then, we estimate the Dark Horse SC will creep into six-figure territory, and that’s before adding any options like the Track Pack. Pricing should be published closer to the car’s on-sale date in summer 2026. View the full article

Jay Leno Just Filmed One of the Rarest Nissan Skyline Gatherings Ever Seen in the U.S.
A Once-in-a-Lifetime Skyline Gathering in the USJay Leno’s Garage is no stranger to rare metal, but this episode lands differently. With legendary car photographer, Larry Chen, Jay walks through time examining one of the rarest assemblies of Nissan Skylines ever filmed in the United States. Seven generations are represented, from the earliest Nissan-badged models to the coveted R34 GT-R, all legally imported and all never sold new in America. That detail matters because these cars exist in the US only because their owners waited decades, navigated complex import laws, and absorbed costs that often exceed the value of the vehicles themselves. Many of the examples shown are believed to exist in America in single-digit numbers. Seeing them together highlights just how thin the Skyline population truly is on this side of the Pacific. Early Skylines That Barely Exist StatesideThe episode opens with the kind of Skylines most American enthusiasts will never encounter. The Hakosuka Skyline GT-R, especially in four-door form, is one of the rarest Japanese performance cars legally registered in the US. Estimates suggest fewer than five exist nationwide. This example remains largely stock, making it even more unusual given how often these cars are modified or parted out. Alongside it are other early generations like the Kenmeri and the DR30 RS. These models were produced in limited numbers to begin with and were never exported when new. In America, they occupy a near-mythical status. Parts support is minimal, and mechanical knowledge is specialized. Their presence in a single collection underscores how exceptional it is for these early Skylines to survive at all. Youtube: @jaylenosgarage View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article R-Chassis Icons, Still Rare in AmericaAs the episode moves into the R-chassis era, familiarity increases but rarity does not disappear. The R31, often overlooked even in Japan, is scarcely seen in the US. Racing homologation variants are virtually nonexistent stateside. The car featured highlights how deep the Skyline story runs beyond the GT-R badge. The R32 and R33 GT-Rs may now be import-legal, but numbers remain small, especially for clean and period-correct cars. Many imports arrive tired or heavily altered. The examples shown on Jay Leno’s Garage stand out for their condition and restraint. They represent a shrinking pool of Skylines that still reflect their original character. Youtube: @jaylenosgarage View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article Why These Skylines Matter in the USThe episode builds toward the R34 GT-R, still one of the most elusive modern performance cars in America. Even after becoming legal, values and scarcity keep it out of reach for most enthusiasts. Larry Chen’s Bayside Blue example, restored in Japan and preserved with care, illustrates how rare a correct R34 remains on US roads. More than a nostalgia piece, this Jay Leno’s Garage feature documents an unusual moment in American car culture. These Skylines are not just desirable; they are statistically rare, historically important, and unlikely to ever be assembled again in one place. Toyota Made the C-HR Faster Instead of Cheaper
When Toyota revived the C-HR nameplate last year in the form of a small electric crossover, we expected it to start at around $30,000. That would’ve made it one of the cheapest EVs in America and a lot cheaper than the company’s larger bZ. Pricing has now been released for the 2026 C-HR, but it’s not nearly as affordable as we had hoped, especially considering the recent influx of affordable EVs like the Nissan Leaf and Tesla Model Y Standard. However, with its potent performance and unique looks, the C-HR may still find favor with consumers. Small EV, Not-So-Small Price Toyota The 2026 Toyota C-HR starts at $37,000 for the SE and increases to $39,000 for the XSE, and that’s before a destination charge of $1,450. Although it’s a lot more expensive than we had hoped, the C-HR is one of the sportier and more powerful small Toyota crossovers. Its standard dual electric motors produce 338 horsepower, and with all-wheel-drive grip, it will sprint to 60 mph in only five seconds. It also has a competitive 290-mile range and the ability for the battery to be replenished from 10-80% in approximately 30 minutes. Here’s a look at the C-HR’s closest electric crossover rivals, based on pricing: Toyota C-HR Subaru Uncharted Sport Kia Niro EV Tesla Model Y Standard Volvo EX30 Single Motor Nissan Leaf SV+ MSRP $37,000 $39,795 $39,700 $39,990 $38,950 $34,230 Horsepower 338 hp 338 hp 201 hp 300 hp 268 hp 214 hp Range 290 miles Over 285 miles 253 miles 321 miles 261 miles 288 miles The C-HR’s price places it among a diverse group of rivals, including everything from the budget-oriented Leaf to the more luxurious Volvo EX30; the EX30 is the only crossover here to get close to the C-HR’s performance (0-60 in 5.1 seconds). The Subaru Uncharted is the closest competitor, as it shares the C-HR’s platform. Subaru also offers a less powerful Uncharted with FWD, which starts at just under $35k. The Model Y Standard is slower (0-60 in 6.8 seconds), but it’s a larger, more spacious vehicle and has a better range. It has standard RWD, whereas the Toyota—unlike most of these rivals—has standard AWD. Rather than compete in the budget EV category with the Leaf and Chevy Bolt, Toyota has positioned the C-HR as a desirable, high-performance small EV. We would like to see a cheaper, single-motor model in the future, though. Toyota Is Making Electrification Fun 2026 Toyota C-HR Toyota View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article Toyota is showing us that it’s using electrification to produce fun, quick cars, not just efficient models. The new RAV4 GR Sport—with its 320-hp plug-in hybrid powertrain—is just one example, and will leave most of its rivals for dead in a straight line. Now, Toyota is turning its attention to quicker, more exciting EVs. The original bZ4X was hardly exciting to drive, but the new C-HR (338 hp) and bZ Woodland (375 hp) have the sort of performance we’ve become accustomed to from rival EVs. The C-HR has a claimed five-second 0-60 time, and the bZ Woodland is expected to be even quicker. With Toyota expanding its GR Sport lineup to include plug-in hybrids, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before we get a GR Sport-badged EV. View the full article

The Kia Seltos Hybrid Makes a Strong Case for Sticking With Gas
New-Generation Seltos Goes on Sale in KoreaThe second-generation Kia Seltos made its global debut last month, and it’s a noticeable upgrade for one of the brand’s key models. The SUV now looks tougher, borrowing sharper lines from the Telluride, and the new X-Line trim gives it a bit more attitude. But the real headline is the arrival of a hybrid version – a first for the nameplate and probably the version fans have been waiting for. When the Seltos made its global debut, Kia barely talked about the hybrid. It was mentioned, then quickly brushed aside. Now that the Seltos is on sale in Korea, we finally get the full story on what the electrified model actually offers. Kia Hybrid vs. Gasoline TurboThe Seltos Hybrid pairs a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor, producing a combined system output of 141 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is rated at roughly 46 mpg combined when converted from Korea’s test cycle – a notably strong figure for an SUV of this size and compared to the outgoing pure-combustion model’s combined 25 mpg EPA figure. But if you’re after punchier performance, the hybrid doesn’t quite match the gas models. The 1.6 turbo Seltos puts out 193 hp with the same torque, so it’s noticeably faster when you need to merge or overtake. The difference isn’t just on the spec sheet – you’ll feel it from behind the wheel. The turbo model will likely be the pick for drivers who want a more responsive, energetic Seltos. The hybrid, on the other hand, is tuned for smoother, quieter drives and fewer trips to the pump. Where the hybrid stands out is in its tech. It brings features you won’t find on the gas versions, like vehicle-to-load capability for powering gadgets up to 3.5 kW, a Stay Mode that keeps the AC and infotainment running without the engine running, and adaptive regen braking that adjusts based on traffic and navigation info. Kia When Will it Arrive in America? In Korea, the Seltos Hybrid starts at 28.98 million won, or about $21,500, and tops out at 35.84 million won (roughly $26,500) for the X-Line. The turbo gas models come in lower, starting around $18,300. Of course, US pricing will likely be different once the Seltos lands here. Kia is launching both gas and hybrid Seltos models in Korea first. The new Seltos should hit US showrooms later this year as a 2027 model, but it’s still up in the air if the hybrid will make the trip over. Given the popularity of hybrids last year, we won’t be surprised if the electrified Seltos gets an American visa as well. Someone Turned a 1969 Chevy Corvette Into a Four-Door Limo—and It’s for Sale
From Stingray to Sea GiantThe Chevrolet C3 Corvette is arguably the most visually striking among Corvette generations, drawing inspiration from the Mako Shark II concept. However, this particular build may be even more striking, as one builder stretched a 1969 model-year example into a limousine, resulting in a four-door configuration with significantly more interior space. This C3 Corvette limousine is listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace with a 9,000-mile odometer and is described as being designed for the “family man.” While the build retains many of the original car’s design cues, it also introduces new gill-like vents positioned between the side windows, echoing the C3’s shark-inspired styling. The use of hidden door handles has also been maintained, creating a more streamlined appearance. Jack Grubisich on Facebook Familiar Lines, Unfamiliar ExecutionLike the standard C3, the modified limousine retains its T-top roof, allowing sections of the roof to be removed for a convertible-like riding experience. It also keeps the Corvette’s signature quad taillights and pop-up headlights – features that were later discontinued after the fifth-generation C5 due to pedestrian-safety requirements. Inside, the upgrades are likewise bold, highlighted by three color televisions that fold out from the dash and headliner. The cabin is also equipped with a premium sound system, four leather power-adjustable seats, and powered windows – giving passengers something close to a genuine limousine experience. Drivers, meanwhile, benefit from power brakes, power steering, and a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel. Other equipment includes a tuned-port fuel-injection engine, a 700R4 automatic transmission with overdrive, and, interestingly, air suspension at all four corners, which absorbs bumps more smoothly than traditional stiff springs for a more comfortable ride. Jack Grubisich on Facebook This Is Not Your Typical Used CorvetteGiven the extensive modifications, it’s no surprise that the asking price sits at $98,000, whereas stock examples can typically sell for around $20,000, depending on mileage and overall condition. The vehicle is located in Santa Ana, California. Today, limousines are no longer as popular as they once were, particularly as ride-hailing services like Waymo have emerged, and crossovers such as the Chevrolet Traverse and Toyota Grand Highlander have taken over, thanks to their practicality and usable interior space. But for those who haven’t given up on the idea of owning a limousine, this C3 Corvette-based build offers something different that may be worth considering. It is unique – or simply quirky – well-equipped, and presents what looks like a cohesive conversion. Amidst the exhilarating acceleration, the distinct exhaust note of the in-line 4-cylinder engine adds a musical touch to the driving excitement. However, in the everyday-use range, the engine’s purr is subdued enough to allow for easy conversation within the cab contributing to the overall ride comfort and high-quality experience. The engine’s rubber-mounted design reduces vibrations contributing to a comfortable ride, even in demanding conditions. The thoughtful design extends to the snorkel-style intake, strategically positioned under the hood to minimize the risk of dust or water ingestion. A high-performance Donaldson air filter stands guard. The electronic throttle valve system takes center stage, allowing the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to intricately control both fuel and air delivery. The result is a seamless and natural engine response, with a single 52mm throttle body chosen to evoke a smooth, driver-friendly reaction. Fine-atomizing injectors, with a droplet size of 60 microns, contribute to efficient combustion and instantaneous engine response. The synergy of components is further demonstrated by 29mm intake valves and 24mm exhaust valves, striking a balance between low-rpm and mid to high-rpm performance. The large-diameter 35mm tail pipe, a testament to the high-performance aspirations of the RIDGE lineup, amplifies the excitement during high-rpm endeavors. The engineering prowess extends to the rear-facing exhaust ports, strategically designed to keep engine heat away from the cab. A dual heat shield adds an extra layer of heat shielding, showcasing meticulous attention to detail. The intentional lengthening of the exhaust pipe enhances low-end performance, a testament to the dedication to optimizing every aspect of the engine’s functionality. Baffle plates in the oil pan ensure a consistent oil supply to the pump, even during high-speed cornering, underscoring the commitment to reliability. The large-capacity 1,120 W generator further enhances the versatility of the RIDGE, providing ample power for heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and a variety of accessories. A cooling fan strategically placed on the right side of the engine block efficiently pushes hot air out, helping to keep the cab temperatures down. The large-capacity radiator, positioned at the front behind the grille, benefits from an optimallocation to receive cooling air, ensuring consistent performance. The seamlessly integrated continuously variable transmission (CVT) adds to the smooth response, creating a driving experience that feels both intuitive and exhilarating. The engineers behind the RIDGE refined the CVT settings to simulate the characteristics of a CVT and centrifugal clutch combination. This meticulous tuning results in a silky-smooth power delivery and quieter engine operation. The collaboration between the electronic throttle valve and the precisely controlled CVT is tuned to provide engine braking, providing a dependable and stable deceleration experience. Whether descending slopes or coming to a complete stop, the engine braking effect instills confidence in the driver. New to the 2026 RIDGE models (except ST models), an idle collar on the primary pulley shaft helps eliminate belt flutter, enhancing the direct, responsive feel riders expect, while reducing belt slack and improving acceleration. A CVT belt converter ratio update on RIDGE models complements these changes, and a sound-dampening rubber sheet added to the back of the cabin further minimizes unwanted engine noise. The gear selection—High, Low, or Reverse—feels smooth and intuitive. Every shift is effortless, adding to a driving experience that’s not just strong but genuinely refined. The Kawasaki RIDGE lineup, powered by its Kawasaki-built 999cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke inline-four engine, is more than just a set of machines. It delivers a blend of power, precision, and excitement that reflects true engineering dedication. Out on the trail, it doesn’t just perform—it makes an impression, setting a new standard for what it means to drive with real passion and purpose. 2026 KAWASAKI RIDGE CREW POWER MODE SELECTION The Kawasaki RIDGE side x sides offer the freedom to choose from Work, Normal, and Sport modes to tailor power delivery to their preferences and driving conditions. Work mode provides a gentler throttle response, ideal for carrying a load or maintaining a steady, controlled pace. Even on uneven terrain, its calibrated response helps prevent sudden changes in vehicle speed or engine RPM, enhancing ride comfort. At low speeds, precise control can be achieved using only the gas pedal, making tasks like aligning a trailer hitch simple and intuitive. Sport mode delivers a sharper, more linear throttle response for higher-speed driving, offering a direct connection between the gas pedal and engine. Pressing the pedal produces rapid RPM increases and strong acceleration, unleashing the engine’s full potential when needed. Normal mode offers a balance between the two, providing smooth and predictable engine response from the moment the throttle is engaged. ON-THE-FLY ELECTRICALLY SELECTABLE FRONT & REAR DIFF LOCK Electrically selectable 4WD and front and rear differential locks let drivers quickly and easily switch between drive systems to match changing terrain and conditions while on the move. In 2WD, steering remains light, while 4WD provides enhanced traction without compromising maneuverability. Engaging 4WD with differential locks delivers maximum traction, as each pair of wheels acts as a single axle, preventing free spinning in low-traction situations or when a wheel is suspended, giving the RIDGE side x side true all-wheel-drive capability. Once the switch is activated, the system engages smoothly and promptly, ensuring the driver maintains precise control over when 4WD and the differential locks are engaged, making it easier to tackle challenging terrain or navigate obstacles with confidence. RANGE AND MAINTENANCE The nearly 13-gallon fuel tank provides a generous range between fill-ups, minimizing interruptions during tasks or allowing extended adventures on the trail. Positioned well away from the wheels, the fuel tank is shielded from potential impacts by flying debris, further enhanced by a protective steel guard. Routine maintenance is achieved with easily located oil and air filter locations; the oil filter is easily accessed by removing the fender panel forward of the rear wheel. The air filter on the RIDGE is located under the bench seat . In the RIDGE® CREW HVAC models the filter is accessed by lifting the rear bench seat. CHASSIS Designed with comfort in mind, the RIDGE chassis features a wide stance that delivers composed handling and a smooth ride. Its frame was engineered to accommodate long-travel suspension and the concurrently designed full cab, ensuring a high level of comfort. Even on the move, low noise and minimal vibration create a quiet cabin environment that helps maintain focus and efficiency, even on longer journeys. The RIDGE track—approximately 53.5 inches front and rear on 2-door models, and 54 inches front with 53.5 inches rear on RIDGE CREW models—enhances overall stability, while front and rear independent suspension further contributes to ride comfort. On RIDGE models, a 90.7-inch wheelbase provides a roomy cabin with ample legroom while keeping the overall length manageable, and enables a tight 14.7-ft. turning radius for easy maneuvering on trails or ridgelines. RIDGE CREW models feature frames roughly 31.5 inches longer to accommodate rear seating and additional interior space, with a 122.2-inch wheelbase and a 19.0-ft. turning radius. High ground clearance—ranging from 13.4 to 15.7 inches depending on model and preload—reduces the risk of scraping the underbody, improves accessibility, and supports a favorable breakover angle for navigating ridges or obstacles without bottoming out. High approach and departure angles further enhance off-road capability, while minimal bodywork overhang keeps wheels close to the bumpers to reduce the chance of contact on steep slopes. Steel plates positioned behind the front fenders provide additional protection from rocks and other debris, ensuring the RIDGE maintainsdurability in demanding conditions. The RIDGE features double-wishbone suspension at both the front and rear, allowing each wheel to navigate obstacles with minimal impact on the chassis. Complementing the chassis’ balanced flex, shock absorbers with dual-rate springs provide excellent bump absorption and performance over rough terrain, keeping the cabin smooth and undisturbed while the suspension follows the roughness of the ground. Suspension tuning also helps limit chassis roll speed, delivering a composed ride for passengers, while optimized damping on RIDGE Crew models enhances stability, reduces the likelihood of bottoming out, and provides a planted feel. New for 2026 (except the ST models), a new front stabilizer bar helps suppress chassis roll during medium- to high-speed cornering, further improving comfort and control. Long wheel travel—12.7 inches front and 12.6 inches rear—supports both ride comfort and high ground clearance. Rear shock absorbers are mounted to the lower A-arms, allowing extended shock stroke while keeping the cargo bed at a practical height for loading. Both front and rear shocks feature 5-way adjustable preload on non-California models, providing versatility for varying terrain and load conditions. The RIDGE features front and rear 9.8-inch disc brakes with hydraulic actuation for strong, predictable stopping power. Two-piston front calipers and single-piston rear calipers provide balanced braking, with larger pistons on RIDGE CREW models to handle the longer chassis. Stretch-resistant brake lines improve hydraulic delivery, and carefully selected brake pads ensure precise control. The dash-mounted parking brake engages the rear brakes, while the ECU prevents engine movement if the parking brake is left on, enhancing safety. Riding on 30-inch large-diameter tires mounted to 14-inch aluminum wheels, the RIDGE enhances off-road capability and smooth travel between worksites. The tall tires contribute to high ground clearance and allow the vehicle to clear small obstacles more easily, maintaining momentum and improving ride comfort. Both front and rear tires are 10-inches wide, so a single spare is sufficient in case of a flat. On RIDGE and RIDGE CREW models, machined wheel rims highlight their size and add a rugged, active look. New to 2026, the Camouflage HVAC models feature all-black wheels. The cargo bed, measuring 34.6 x 49 x 12.8-inches with a load capacity of 1,000 lbs. is designed for substantial loads. Its flat design facilitates loading from three sides. Four built-in hooks provide convenient tie-down points. The gas-assisted tilting cargo bed features tilting-release levers on both sides, allowing easy access to the engine. The bed incorporates a single-latch tailgate release system for convenient opening and closing. The cargo bed walls have slots for cargo dividers, enhancing the secure stowing of items. Octagonal slots in the cargo bed walls accommodate the new-style optional KQR accessory mounts, enabling snap-mounted attachment of items to the cargo bed rails. Additionally, the RIDGE boasts a towing capacity of 2,500 lbs. and a standard 2-inch tow hitch receiver is compatible with a variety of accessory hitches. AUTOMOTIVE-INSPIRED FIT AND FINISH Complementing its rugged, active styling, the RIDGE features a premium exterior with painted fenders and full LED lighting. Line-type LED position lights and bright headlights (48.6 W / 22.2 W) create a fierce front expression, enhanced by a large aluminum Kawasaki emblem on the grille, a lightweight steel bumper with black finish, and LED accent lights on the bumper shrouds (except ST Models). An air scoop built into the hood adds to the aggressive look, while RIDGE Platinum Ranch Edition HVAC models include a front brush guard for even tougher styling. Front wheel wells feature a beveled leading edge that deflects mud away from doors and the cargo bed, keeping high-contact areas cleaner. On RIDGE CREW models, the longer proportions are balanced with recessed and angled door designs, and integrated graphics across the doors and cargo bed walls maintain the forward-leaning, distinctive ridge stance. At the rear, pickup-truck-style LED taillights add to the overall automotive-style fit and finish. On RIDGE models, the roomy cabin comfortably seats three, with contoured seating for the driver and right-side passenger. New for 2026, the RIDGE driver’s seat features a revised bottom and sliding mechanism that lowers seat height by 2.2-inches and provides 2.5-inches of forward-rearward adjustment in 0.5-inch increments, offering an optimized driving position for a wider range of drivers. Tilt steering and EPS allow a car-like driving experience, while high-elasticity seat material, anti-cinch three-point seat belts, and integrated handgrips enhance comfort and safety. Standard doors and a plastic roof provide mud and weather protection, and wide space between the dashboard and seats allows easy movement through the cabin. Premium touches—including floor lighting, backlit switches, decorative accents, an automotive-style ignition key, and a new sound-dampening rubber sheet at the rear of the cabin—reduce engine noise and elevate the overall interior quality. On RIDGE CREW models, bench seats accommodate up to six passengers, with contoured seating for the outer four positions and flat center seats for added comfort and a premium feel. The area under the driver’s seat features mesh panels, while the passenger side is open, allowing airflow to reach the rear and provide full climate control benefits. The open space under the front seats also gives rear passengers ample room to stretch their legs, enhancing overall comfort. High-quality interior details, such as smoothly fitted B-pillar panel covers and seatback panels that conceal the area under the front seats, contribute to a refined look while preventing shins from contacting structural components. Rear doors swing rearward, offering wide access to the back seats and making entry and exit more convenient for passengers. FULL CAB WITH HVAC (PLATINUM & HVAC MODELS) The factory-standard full cab on RIDGE models features heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) for year-round comfort. It includes a glass windshield with ridgeline graphic, full doors with power windows, a glass rear panel, plastic roof with liner, wiper and washer, rearview mirror, and interior light. Designed first with the full cab, the cabin seals efficiently for excellent climate control. UV- and IR-cut glass, along with an insulated roof, helps maintain interior temperature, while recessed power window switches add to the premium, automotive-style feel. On RIDGE CREW models, the powerful HVAC system provides rapid, efficient cabin temperature control, quick windshield defrosting, and improved comfort for rear passengers. ELECTRIC POWER STEERING Every RIDGE model features Kawasaki’s high-grade electric power steering (EPS) system, designed to provide maximum assistance when it’s needed most—at very low speeds or when stopped. Turning the wheel sends a signal to the EPS ECU, which uses input from the vehicle speed and torque sensors to determine the appropriate level of motor-assisted steering. Assistance is greatest at low speeds and gradually decreases as speed increases, ensuring responsive control. The EPS system also improves ride comfort and handling by acting as a damping system, with the motor’s inertia significantly reducing kickback from shocks transmitted through the wheels TILT STEERING WHEEL The RIDGE steering wheel features a tilting function, allowing drivers to adjust its position according to their preference and lift it out of the way to facilitate entry and exit. The high-grade D-shaped steering wheel not only contributes to comfort but also enhances the high-quality feel of the RIDGE CREW. TFT COLOR INSTRUMENTATION A large 7-inch full-color TFT LCD screen in the automotive-style dashboard, enhancing its premium feel. Drivers can choose from three display modes and black or white backgrounds, with automatic or manual brightness for excellent legibility. The screen shows key information including speed, tachometer, fuel, gear, driving and power modes, trip data, and maintenance reminders, while surrounding indicator lamps provide at-a-glance status. When paired with a compatible iOS smartphone, calls and messages appear on the display. The screen also supports up to two accessory cameras (front and rear) and displays lighting status, combining information and infotainment in a single, high-quality interface. On RIDGE Platinum models, two accessory cameras (front and rear) come standard. New for 2026 (except ST models), when a rearview camera is installed, shifting the RIDGE into Reverse automatically switches the display to view the area behind the vehicle. SMARTPHONE CONNECTIVITY Bluetooth technology in the instrumentation allows wireless connectivity with the side x side. Using the smartphone application RIDEOLOGY THE APP POWERSPORTS*, drivers can access vehicle information, log GPS routes, adjust instrument display settings and share profiles and trip logs with other users. Compatibility is limited to iOS-type smartphones. STORAGE The dashboard features three covered compartments for small-item storage: a lidded section above the center console on non-HVAC models, a passenger-side glove box, and an additional lidded compartment above the glove box. A convenient pocket in the dashboard center console (on all models except Platinum models) provides easy-access storage for small items. On RIDGE Platinum models, a small pocket integrated into the ROPS A-pillar upper cross member provides storage for sunglasses or other small items. Two cup holders are integrated into the left and right sides of the dashboard, designed to fit 30-oz cups and accommodate handles. On RIDGE models, the center section of the seat back folds down to reveal storage behind the seats and includes two additional cup holders. On RIDGE CREW models, six cup holders—two on either side of the dashboard and four in the fold-down center sections of the front and rear bench seats—provides ample storage and cup-holding options for passengers while folding down the rear center section also grants access to storage behind the seats. Additional storage is available beneath the passenger seats on both front and rear benches, with the center and right-side seats flipping up to accommodate larger items; gas dampers ensure smooth movement and a premium feel. Two storage nets on the back of the front bench seat provide rear passengers with extra space for personal items, enhancing overall comfort and convenience. DC SOCKETS & USB PORTS A DC socket built into the dashboard provides power for accessories or personal devices, while two USB ports are located inside the lidded storage above the glove box. On RIDGE Crew models, a DC socket in the center of the front seat’s rear panel offers rear passengers a convenient power source, and on the RIDGE Platinum models, this is complemented by two additional USB ports. TERMINAL BLOCKS AND PREWIRING FOR ACCESSORIES A terminal block located below the glove box provides a convenient connection point for accessories. On models without a factory-installed winch, a second terminal block behind the front bumper allows for easy winch installation. An additional power supply point is also available under the left side of the cargo bed. WINCH (PLATINUM MODELS) RIDGE Platinum models come standard with a WARN® VRX 45-S Powersport winch. . The winch features 50-ft. of ¼-inch synthetic rope rated to 4,500 lbs, a load-holding roller-disc brake, cast aluminum fairlead, and a three-stage planetary gear train for smooth, efficient operation. The World’s First All-Terrain Hypercar Was Designed Backwards, Starting With the Suspension
More Details Apart Beyond the Green LightLast month, Hameedi Venturo quietly gave the green light to Project Origine. The plan: build the world’s first all-terrain hypercar, with more than €150 million (about $178 million) already committed and development set in Italy. At the time, that was about all the company was willing to share. And that makes sense. Hameedi Venturo wanted to nail down what the car actually is – and what it isn’t. Project Origine isn’t an SUV, a crossover, or a jacked-up supercar like the recent rally-inspired specials. It’s a low, wide, purpose-built performance car that just happens to work in places most hypercars wouldn’t dare go. Think of it as a road-going Audi RS Q e-tron, not the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato. Now that the project is officially moving forward, the company is outlining how it intends to achieve those goals beyond a vague image of various landscapes. Hameedi Venturo Suspension First, Everything Else FollowsThe most notable detail in the latest press release is the approach to building Project Origine. Rather than starting with a chassis and adapting it for rough terrain, Hameedi Venturo began with the suspension. Structure, packaging, and driveline are all developed around that foundation. This method allows for significant ride-height adjustment while maintaining the proportions, steering feel, and dynamics expected of a performance car. The aim is not to create a car whose character changes with the terrain, but to broaden its capabilities without losing its identity. Of note, Project Origine’s main structure is a mix of carbon and aluminum, said to be built to handle stress. The suspension and other parts are designed to absorb damage first, protecting the carbon core underneath during hardcore off-pavement use. This way, the chassis stays safe, and repairs stay manageable. Another important detail: the hypercar is powered by a new naturally aspirated V12. The origin of the 12-pot mill remains undisclosed for now, as well as the target power figures. What we know is that the engine is designed to deliver smooth, predictable power and a distinct mechanical sound without electrification. Luxury is approached differently, too. Rather than isolating occupants from noise and vibration, the materials and controls are chosen to enhance feedback and driver control, while still making long journeys comfortable. Hameedi Venturo View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article Still a Few Years Before First Customer DeliveryAt this point, it won’t hurt to bring up the team behind Hameedi Venturo. Jamal Hameedi is one of the co-founders, with a resume that spans from the Ford GT to the Defender OCTA. He’s joined by Dr. Andreas Baenziger, whose background in automotive luxury and motorsport ownership shapes the brand’s client-facing philosophy. Maximilian Szwaj is the chief technology officer, with engineering experience on the LaFerrari, Valhalla, and other modern halo cars. Hameedi Venturo also introduces I Venticinque, a group of twenty-five people who get to be part of the development journey. Instead of just getting early access to the finished car, they’ll spend time with prototypes, help with validation, and see how the design evolves in tough conditions. Project Origine is still several years from production, with first deliveries expected in 2030. More technical information, images, and other updates (hopefully including price and planned production units) will be shared as development progresses. AI Could Trigger the Next Big Automotive Chip Shortage
The Other Cost of the AI BoomArtificial intelligence has been widely adopted across multiple sectors, with applications ranging from productivity tools to more unconventional uses – such as a BMW owner using ChatGPT to generate a custom performance tune. While the technology is primarily leveraged to streamline workflows and improve efficiency, a report from S&P Global suggests that broader adoption could disrupt automotive production, echoing the pandemic-era supply chain shock. The report stated that a dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) shortage could emerge in 2026. DRAM serves as the primary working memory for computing systems and is especially critical for AI data centers, which require vast amounts of high-speed memory to process workloads. The concern is that chipmakers may prioritize higher-margin customers over automakers, potentially triggering another disruption across the automotive supply chain. Toyota Cars Are Becoming Rolling ComputersWith the integration of advanced in-car technologies such as connected services, automakers increasingly rely on high-performance computing chips. These components also enable advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), which are now standard even on entry-level models like the Nissan Sentra. Tesla is taking this dependence on computing even further with its planned robotaxi program, which is expected to use the Cybercab—a vehicle designed to operate without a human driver, steering wheel, or pedals. The semiconductor shortage triggered by the pandemic caused widespread production delays that continue to affect the industry today, with models such as the Volkswagen ID.4 among those heavily impacted. Looking ahead, a potential DRAM shortage is expected to spark panic buying and further production disruptions across the automotive sector, particularly if chipmakers raise prices by as much as 70 to 100 percent, as some analysts suggest. Hagerty Aging Tech in a Fast-Moving IndustryAnother emerging concern is the planned phaseout of legacy memory chips by 2028. Automakers will therefore need to redesign and validate their systems around newer memory technologies—a process that can be both time-consuming and costly, especially as advanced in-car features are increasingly becoming a dealbreaker for consumers. At this point, it seems automakers have limited leverage when it comes to the overall supply of memory chips. What they can do instead is focus on improving software efficiency to reduce memory demand and, more importantly, place greater emphasis on sourcing strategies that include strengthening long-term partnerships with semiconductor suppliers to secure allocation and mitigate future disruptions. Volvo Hasn’t Closed the Door on Wagons Just Yet
Volvo Wagons in America Are Dead—For NowThe final Volvo wagon for the US is the V60 Cross Country. If you want one, you have until the end of the month. After that, Volvo’s wagon lineup in America is finished, at least officially. The brand is shifting its focus to SUVs, crossovers, and EVs. Even the XC70 name, once tied to rugged wagons, has returned as an extended-range SUV. There’s no lifted longroof this time, which shows just how far Volvo has moved away from wagons as a body style. But that doesn’t mean wagons are gone for good. Despite the shift, Volvo hasn’t ruled them out. In an interview, Volvo’s top product strategist suggested the longroof could still have a place in the lineup. Volvo Why Volvo Thinks Wagons Still Make SenseSpeaking to The Drive, Volvo Chief Strategy and Product Officer Michael Fleiss was careful not to promise anything concrete, but he also wasn’t shy about explaining why wagons are still part of internal conversations. When asked directly about the future of wagons, Fleiss responded with a simple but telling line: “Watch this space.” Fleiss pointed out that wagons are still strong sellers in Europe, and electrification could work in their favor. Aerodynamics matter more with EVs, and wagons have a lower, more efficient profile than SUVs. Volvo, with its history of wagons, is looking into it. He added that buyer priorities are changing. In the past, people chose cars for their engines and powertrains. As vehicles go fully electric, brands will compete on platforms, efficiency, and packaging instead. Volvo’s SPA3 EV platform gives them room to explore different body styles, including wagons. When asked if wagons still make sense in the US, Fleiss said yes. Even China, once seen as wagon-averse, is showing new interest. Europe remains the main market, but Fleiss didn’t rule out America. Volvo The US Wagon ComebackVolvo isn’t alone in quietly rethinking wagons. In the US, longroofs have been making an unexpected comeback at the performance end of the market. Audi’s RS6 Avant enjoyed its best sales year ever, proving there’s still demand for wagons when they’re positioned as desirable rather than utilitarian. BMW’s M5 Touring has followed a similar path, with strong interest despite higher pricing and its niche status. This matters because performance models often set the tone. If buyers are willing to pay for fast wagons, it helps make the body style relevant again. Wagons become a modern alternative to SUVs, not just a throwback. Policymakers are watching too. New fuel-economy rules could push automakers to bring back more passenger-car shapes, including wagons, by closing the gap between car and SUV regulations. It’s not a guarantee, but it removes another barrier for wagons. Put it all together, and the signs are clear. Market trends, performance models, and electrification all point to a possible return for wagons. They may not be the default family car anymore, but they’re not out of the picture. Toyota Is Charging $5,000 More Than Subaru for the Same EV
Toyota may have one of the most extensive lineups of hybrid models in the country, but it still lags behind in the EV space. The 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland will help to change this—it’s a longer and more spacious version of the bZ. Sharing much with the Subaru Trailseeker, the bZ Woodland has finally been priced, but the news isn’t good. The Toyota electric SUV is far more expensive than its mechanically similar Subaru cousin. Is there a reason for this, or is Toyota simply charging for its stronger brand cachet? Let’s take a look at the specification sheets to find out. Related: The Quickest Subaru in America Looks Affordable at Just Under $40,000 How Much Is It? Toyota The 2026 bZ Woodland comes in just two trim levels, with the base model costing $45,300. The Premium trim, meanwhile, will cost you $47,400, and that’s before a destination charge of $1,450. Looking at the 2026 Subaru Trailseeker, it starts at $39,995, a full $5,305 less than the base bZ Woodland. The Trailseeker has three trims, with the Limited costing $43,995 and the top-spec Touring at $46,555. As with the Toyota, it has the same $1,450 destination charge. Both vehicles have standard dual electric motors and all-wheel drive, along with an output of 375 horsepower, so there’s no difference there. Both have 8.3 inches of ground clearance, a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, over 30 cubic-feet of cargo space, and a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery. In terms of range, Subaru actually claims a better figure than Toyota: 280 miles for the Trailseeker to 260 miles for the bZ Woodland. Subaru claims a swift 4.4-second 0-60 sprint for the Trailseeker, and the bZ Woodland should be similarly quick. So, in terms of performance and practicality, there’s no reason the Toyota should cost more, and the Subaru actually has the edge because of its better range on a full charge. Feature Comparison: bZ Woodland Vs. Trailseeker 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland Toyota View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article If Toyota positions the bZ Woodland as a better-equipped, more luxurious EV without a base trim, its higher price may be justified. Here’s a look at the standard features on both SUVs, based on the limited information Toyota has released about the bZ Woodland this far—we expect full specifications of the bZ Woodland to be published imminently. bZ Woodland Trailseeker Wheels 18-inch alloys 18-inch alloys Touchscreen 14 inches 14 inches Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto S S Heated front seats S S Synthetic leather upholstery S S Power driver’s seat S S Panoramic-view monitor S O Blind-spot monitoring S S Adaptive cruise control S S Traffic jam assist S S Dual wireless device charging S S S = Standard; O = Optional As you can see, the only notable standard item the base bZ Woodland has over the Trailseeker is a panoramic-view monitor, but that’s not worth the $5,305 premium on its own. Besides, you can simply upgrade to the Trailseeker Limited at $43,995, which still undercuts the cheapest bZ Woodland. This Trailseeker trim adds items like 20-inch wheels, a Harman Kardon sound system, the panoramic-view monitor, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a 1500W cargo area power outlet. Toyota Adding the Premium Package to the Toyota will get you additions like a JBL Premium sound system, a digital rearview mirror, ventilated front seats, a panoramic roof, and a front radiant heater. Bearing all of this in mind, the Subaru Trailseeker is easily the better-value EV here. Toyota may have positioned the bZ Woodland as a more premium product—somewhat like the Crown Signia—and priced it accordingly. Subaru, meanwhile, has priced the Trailseeker more in line with that brand’s focus on affordable, rugged vehicles. Not Every Subaru Is Cheaper Than The Equivalent Toyota 2026 Subaru Solterra Subaru View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Co-developed, platform-sharing Subarus and Toyotas aren’t limited to these electric crossovers, of course. There’s also the Subaru Solterra/Toyota bZ and Subaru BRZ/Toyota GR86 duos. With these, the pricing roles are reversed, as the Subaru model is pricier in both instances. The Solterra starts at $38,495 for 2026, whereas the bZ now starts at just $34,900. Looking at the sports cars, the BRZ’s $35,860 starting MSRP is significantly higher than the GR86’s $31,200. If you aren’t a diehard fan of either brand but are interested in one of these cars, we recommend a close comparison of specifications to determine the best-value model. As we can see with the bZ Woodland and Trailseeker, the Toyota badge doesn’t automatically mean it’s the better buy. In this case, you’re simply paying a lot more for the same vehicle. John Force Racing Announces Crew Chief Lineup For NHRA’s 75th Anniversary Season
John Force Racing rolls into a new era of competition for the 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season with an expanded lineup of drivers, crew chiefs and crew who collectively have the singular focus of winning for the 24-time championship organization. “This is a great time to be part of John Force Racing and I’m more excited about getting the season going than I have been in a long time,” said 16-time NHRA Funny Car World Champion and team owner John Force. “There are new crew chiefs and crew members bringing fresh blood to the race shop, sharing their experience and know-how with the crew chiefs and crew already established here who have won races and championships and set national records. We’re back to having four teams in Top Fuel and Funny Car and I can’t wait to see them go down the track at Gainesville.” Continuing to call the shots for 2012 NHRA Funny Car World Champion Jack Beckman and the PEAK Antifreeze and Coolant Chevrolet SS Funny Car team will be veteran crew chiefs Danny Hood and Tim Fabrisi. Beckman’s first full season with the PEAK SQUAD garnered a third-place finish in the 2025 point standings on the strength of two victories (Pomona 1, Chicago) and three runner-up finishes (Richmond, Indianapolis, St. Louis) as well as five No. 1 Qualifier spots (Gainesville, Chicago, Richmond, Brainerd, Indianapolis). Long-time John Force Racing crew chief Chris Cunningham moves from the PEAK SQUAD to join forces with co-crew chief Jason Bunker, most recently with Cruz Pedregon Racing, in overseeing the performance of the Cornwell Tools Chevrolet SS Funny Car team with driver Jordan Vandergriff. Vandergriff will make his Funny Car debut in 2026 after competing in 11 Top Fuel events in 2019, earning a runner-up finish at Dallas and two other semi-final showings. After a five-year hiatus from the competition, he made two starts last season in relief of injured Top Fuel driver Shawn Reed. David Grubnic and John Collins will continue to prepare the John Force Racing Top Fuel Dragster in 2026 with Josh Hart now behind the wheel and a new primary partnership with Hart’s Burnyzz Speed Shop. Last year, Grubnic and Collins guided two-time NHRA Top Fuel World Champion Brittany Force, who stepped out of the seat at season’s end to start a family, to a fourth-place finish in the point standings with two wins (New Hampshire and Las Vegas, her female record-breaking 19th in the class) one runner-up finish (Seattle), and six No. 1 Qualifier positions (Pomona1, Richmond, Sonoma, Indianapolis, Charlotte2, Las Vegas). The team also set the NHRA speed national record multiple times, the final mark of 343. 51 mph made at Indianapolis. Hart, who has two NHRA Top Fuel victories to his credit (2021 Gainesville and Charlotte), finished 10th in last year’s Top Fuel point standings as team owner and driver. The decision-makers on the Bandero Premium Tequila Chevrolet SS Funny Car team with driver Alexis DeJoria are Mike Neff, who has been both driver and crew chief with John Force Racing and was DeJoria’s crew chief last season, and Jonnie Lindberg, also a former driver who was co-crew chief the past two seasons at Paul Lee Racing. The six-time NHRA Funny Car event winner finished 12th in last season’s point standings, with semifinal finishes at Gainesville, Epping, Seattle and Indianapolis. John Force Racing kicks off the 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season, the sanctioning body’s 75th anniversary, March 5-8 with the AMALIE MOTOR OIL NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville (Fla.) Raceway. This story was originally published on January 27, 2026. The post John Force Racing Announces Crew Chief Lineup For NHRA’s 75th Anniversary Season first appeared on Drag Illustrated. WSOPM Champ Spencer Hyde Reaches Elite Eight at U.S. Street Nationals
Pro Mod standout Spencer Hyde delivered an impressive performance at the U.S. Street Nationals presented by M&M Transmission, January 22-25 at Bradenton Motorsports Park, advancing to the quarterfinals in one of the most competitive Pro Mod events in history, losing to eventual winner Stevie “Fast” Jackson. The race marked the second event of the Drag Illustrated Winter Series and featured a staggering 70-car qualifying field battling for just 32 spots. Driving in place of esteemed Pro Mod racer Ken Quartuccio, Hyde quickly found his rhythm in unfamiliar equipment, qualifying No. 10 with a stout 3.570 second pass at 211.06 mph on his second qualifying attempt. The performance placed Hyde solidly in what became the quickest Pro Mod qualifying field ever assembled. “This car is very similar to mine, so it didn’t take long to get acquainted to it, and it felt like everything was pretty natural,” said Hyde. “These guys have a really good program over here at the Tidwell camp. They gave me a great race car, and it just wasn’t quite good enough today. But I’m confident we can come back at World Series of Pro Mod and go deep into the rounds again.” Following the chip draw, Hyde opened eliminations against reigning World Series of Pro Mod champion Steve King, the No. 26 qualifier. Despite first-round nerves, Hyde drove past King to score the win. “I got the first-round jitters more than I ever do, because I felt like I had a weight on my shoulders, realizing I am driving Ken Quartuccio’s car,” said Hyde. “Ken is a really good driver and they are always very successful when they come here. If you lose first round, you feel like you’re letting everybody down. I was chopping the tree down all weekend, so I was worried about going red. It was a night run and I let it get to my head, so I had a bad light. But thankfully, Steve Petty bailed me out and gave me a good race car, and we were able to drive around Steve King.” Hyde found his stride in round two, drawing No. 12 qualifier Sidnei Frigo of Brazil. Hyde delivered one of the highlights of the weekend, cutting a perfect .000 reaction time to secure the win and advance to the Elite Eight. “This morning I went up there and forgot about all the pressure and just went back to doing my normal deal,” said Hyde. “I got a little lucky and had a perfect light there during round two against Sidnei Frigo.” In the quarterfinals, Hyde faced No. 6 qualifier Stevie ‘Fast’ Jackson, pulling his number in the chip draw. Difficult track conditions plagued the round, ultimately ending Hyde’s run. “Unfortunately, in round three the track conditions were pretty subpar,” said Hyde. “There’s eight cars and eight aborted runs, which you never want to see. But everybody had to deal with the same stuff. My parachute rattled out when the car shook and I pedaled it and got back on it, and Stevie was pulling away from me because the parachute was dragging along behind me. We didn’t quite get it done, but Stevie’s one of the best to ever do it and losing to him isn’t the worst thing.” The weekend underscored the unprecedented depth of competition in the Winter Series, a point Hyde emphasized when reflecting on qualifying. “Yesterday I was talking to Aaron Stanfield, he went 3.598 and was No. 37,” said Hyde. “One year ago at this race that would have got him seventh. 30 spots difference from year to year is absolutely wild. It proves how much these guys have been testing and working on their stuff. This whole Winter Series deal breeds competition and everybody wants to be a part of it. Everybody is here to not only win the race, but it’s a huge pat on the back for every team who qualifies.” With momentum on his side, Hyde now turns his attention to the final event of the Winter Series, the World Series of Pro Mod in February, where he returns as a former event winner, having claimed victory in 2023. “I am really looking forward to coming back again next month and doing it all again,” said Hyde. “We’ve got a good car. I’ve been driving well, and we have all the tools to make it happen, to put it in the Winner Circle. Being a previous winner, nobody’s won the World Series of Pro Mod twice, and I’d really like to be the first guy to do that. And I think I’m in the best situation possible to get that done.” Hyde and the Scott Tidwell Racing team will be back in competition at the World Series of Pro Mod on February 26-28 at Bradenton Motorsports Park. A Nissan GT-R Nismo Inspired This Very Unlikely Van
Make Nissan Great AgainIt's been a tough couple of years for Nissan; the once strong and mighty Japanese automaker has been in dire straits. It started as a rumour that went wild, which eventually led to the brand reorganizing, with a failed attempt to merge with Mitsubishi and Honda, and the closure of some manufacturing plants, along with the sale of its own brand HQ in Yokohama, Japan. However, the automaker came out swinging in 2026 with a decent showing at the recently concluded Tokyo Auto Salon. There is still a large number of brand lovers, and some of them are taking it upon themselves to bring back the love for Nissan through Nismo, in some unorthodox ways. One of those is Destiny Inc. in Japan, and it's a uniquely odd Caravan Nismo concept. View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Nissan Caravan NismoDynasty Inc. Japan is a firm responsible for putting the bling on some very unique builds; some of its kits and parts belong in the Need For Speed Underground 2 catalog. The company has just released a kit for the Nissan Caravan, and what makes this interesting is that the inspiration for it comes from the outgoing Nissan GT-R Nismo. The first noticeable homage to the GT-R Nismo is that the Caravan Dynasty Alive GT kit has the iconic stealth grey and red accent colorway. It also features a new front bumper. wheel arches, side skirts, and rear bumper that very much resemble the design on the Nismo GT-R. The Caravan is also slammed very low to the ground, and to round out the whole kit are the half rear wing and bigger aftermarket rims. The kit retails for around $1,600 (at current exchange rates) and is exclusively sold in Japan for now. Call it crazy, but in other major markets, the Caravan is a huge seller for Nissan. Apart from Japan, Asian markets like the Philippines and Thailand buy these passenger vans in droves, and each country modifies its Caravan (or the Urvan in some markets) almost identically to the slammed look of the Dynasty Inc. kit. Nismo to the Rescue? It also needs to be said that Nissan is using Nismo to regain some interest in the brand; the world is clamoring for performance models, and it recognizes that. It has already gone on record as planning to increase Nismo vehicle shipments to 150,000 annually by 2028. This, along with capitalizing on the restoration market through an expansion of the Nissan Heritage parts catalogue, is seen as a key component of this strategic move. It might also be a smart move to offer official Nismo aftermarket parts and kits to help the company raise Nismo's profile. So, while a Caravan Nismo kit seems odd and funny, it might just be a smart money move. Dynasty Inc. View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article View the full article
