  5. Honda Base Station Prototype Honda today revealed the Base Station Prototype, an entirely new towable travel trailer from the innovative engineers and designers at the company’s U.S. research and development (R&D) centers in Los Angeles and Ohio. Designed with modularity, integrated smart technology, and clever packaging, the Base Station Prototype brings segment first innovations only Honda can deliver. The Honda Base Station Prototype was conceived to democratize outdoor adventures, with the ability to be towed behind many of the most popular vehicles in America, like the Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4, as well as electric vehicles like the Honda Prologue and upcoming Honda 0-Series SUV, while remaining competitively priced in the lightweight travel trailer segment. “Base Station is a perfect example of what can happen when you let a team of researchers, designers and engineers pursue bold new ideas to create new value for our customers,” said Jane Nakagawa, vice president of the American Honda R&D Business Unit. “Just like the Motocompacto, Base Station is the product of fresh and innovative thinking. We designed it to make camping more accessible and enjoyable for families across America.” The Base Station Prototype follows Honda’s signature “Man Maximum/Machine Minimum” design philosophy—maximizing space for people, while minimizing the footprint of mechanical components, a principle behind the packaging magic found in many of Honda’s award-winning cars and light trucks. As a result, the Base Station will fit in a standard residential garage or parking space, yet its interior is open, spacious, airy and bright. Five large side windows allow for plenty of natural light, and can be removed and replaced with various accessories. The top of the Base Station Prototype can be quickly raised to create seven feet of stand-up space, while a top-hinged rear tailgate enables free flow between the Base Station and campsite. Base Station can sleep a family of four comfortably with a large futon-style couch that folds out to provide a queen-sized sleeping area and an optional kids’ bunk bed. The clean and modern design of the Base Station is about both form and function, with clever ambient light rings around the windows that are not only programmable for brightness and color, but will illuminate a campsite to make setting up easy at night. Showcasing the potential of its modular design, the Base Station Prototype is outfitted with various accessories, including an air conditioner, an external shower, and an external kitchen complete with running water and an induction cooktop. Zero emissions power off the grid is enabled through a standard lithium battery, inverter, and integrated solar panels. External power sources, whether campsite hookup or Honda generator, can be quickly connected for extended stays. The Honda Base Station Prototype builds on the company’s 50-year legacy of U.S. R&D, delivering customer-focused innovations like adventure-ready vehicles and gear for outdoor lifestyles. Designed to enhance the experience for both seasoned adventurers and first-time campers, Base Station complements Honda’s existing lineup of rugged and adventure-ready products like light trucks, ATVs, side-by-sides, generators, and motorcycles. 50 Years of Innovation in the U.S. American Honda celebrated 50 years of R&D in the United States in 2025, honoring the efforts of Honda associates and engineers who research, design and develop innovative products and technologies that have shaped mobility and advanced the American auto industry over the last five decades. 6. Prior to the 2025-26 Drag Illustrated Winter Series presented by J&A Service, Jerry Bickel Race Cars owner Rick Hord announced one of the biggest incentives in Pro Modified history with the Jerry Bickel Clean Sweep Challenge. If any driver earns the No. 1 qualifying position at all three Winter Series events, that racer will receive a brand-new Jerry Bickel Race Cars Pro Mod rolling chassis, estimated at more than $200,000. After the Snowbird Outlaw Nationals presented by Motion Raceworks, the first event of the DI Winter Series, one driver stands alone who can earn the prize: Jason Harris and his “Party Time” ‘69 Camaro. While there’s still a ton of work to be done to achieve the end goal, Hord says he’d love nothing more than to present Harris with a brand-new chassis. “We would love for it to happen,” said Hord. “I didn’t go into this looking at it purely from a statistical side of, ‘Will I ever have to make good on it?’ We went into this wanting to make Jerry Bickel great again, to coin a phrase. I’d be happy to build a guy car because it’ll always be remembered as the car he won and we built it. It’s exciting for us and we’d very much like to see somebody with it.” In addition, JBRC awarded Harris $5,000 as the No. 1 qualifier at the Snowbirds, and will hand out $7,500 to the No. 1 qualifier at the U.S. Street Nationals presented by M&M Transmission and $10,000 at the World Series of Pro Mod – a total of $22,500 in qualifying bonuses across the three events. While qualifying No. 1 against 80 top-tier Pro Mods three races in a row might seem unattainable – drag racing announcer and historian Brian Lohnes deemed it “unprecedented in this sport” – Harris is no stranger to finding success against seemingly insurmountable odds. In 2014, Harris won an incredible six events in a row, and won four races in a row again just last season. But now, the eyes of everyone – both fans and opposing drivers – will be on Harris. The soft-spoken man from North Carolina will enter the U.S. Street Nationals with a massive target on his back. Hord – a veteran Pro Mod driver in his own right – believes that the key to blocking out the noise and pressure is for Harris to simply stay true to what he does. “I don’t know the Harris family all that well, but I believe they are very grounded,” Hord said. “Talking with them personally at Snowbirds, both (Jason’s father) Bob and Jason are very grateful for everything they do and everything they get. I think if Jason can approach it from the right mindset of going out and having fun, stay composed, and not start overthinking it, he absolutely can do it again – or at least be right in the mix.” As an added bonus, the car Harris is attempting to win the Clean Sweep Challenge in is a Jerry Bickel chassis as well. For Hord, having a Bickel chassis be the lone car eligible to win is a proud moment, and having Harris represent his company on this stage is even better. “I mean, it’s a little spine tingling,” said Hord. “They’re humble people and he told me it would mean everything to him. He talked about how they’ve never adjusted the chassis one time. His dad won’t even let anybody under the back of the car. That says something about the car. And we would be proud to see him in a new one. I heard him say on The Wes Buck Show that if he won the car, he wanted a black and gold 1976 Smoky and the Bandit Trans Am. We’ll have to see about that, but one way or another, we’ll have fun with it.” This story was originally published on January 15, 2026. 7. Ford chief executive Jim Farley says a stable trade deal with Mexico and Canada is critical for the US auto industry, because modern vehicle production depends on parts and assemblies moving across North America with minimal friction. His comments, via Reuters, land as the US Mexico Canada Agreement heads toward a scheduled review, and as politics, tariffs, and cost pressures collide with the practical reality of how cars and trucks are built. Why USMCA MattersFord and its rivals run deeply integrated supply chains across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with components crossing borders multiple times before a vehicle is finished. Farley is effectively arguing that any disruption to that system risks higher costs, slower production, and less certainty for long term investment. That concern is already tied to the wider affordability debate, including scrutiny over why vehicles have become so expensive, a question that continues to follow Ford leadership in Washington. Bill Pugliano/Getty Images What Farley Is Warning AboutThe central issue is uncertainty, because trade rules, tariffs, and enforcement decisions can change faster than product cycles and factory planning. If cross border flows become less predictable, automakers may need to duplicate sourcing, hold more inventory, or shift production, all of which adds cost. It also intersects with powertrain strategy, because companies are trying to balance emissions rules, customer demand, and cost targets, while still keeping enthusiast nameplates alive through approaches like the hybrid pathway Ford has been signalling for its V8 future. Vince Mignott/MB Media/Getty Images What Comes NextThe USMCA review process will shape planning for the rest of the decade, especially for companies that build vehicles and powertrains in more than one North American country. Ford is signaling that the industry needs clarity not just on trade, but on the wider policy environment that influences pricing, model mix, and investment. The stakes are not limited to factories, they extend to fleet operators, dealers, and public sector buyers, including the kind of real world demand where vehicles are expected to perform without supply constraints, showed by Ford’s expanding deployment of Broncos into search and rescue missions. 8. Mercedes-Benz unveiled the all-new CLA last year in electric form, and this was later followed by a hybrid version. A Tesla Model 3 rival, the new CLA has been racking up multiple awards since its launch. It was recently announced as Europe’s 2026 Car of the Year, ending an almost unbelievable drought of over 50 years for Mercedes-Benz for this prestigious award. And now, the CLA has been named as the safest car tested by Euro NCAP throughout 2025. That’s a huge achievement, given rapidly rising standards in vehicle safety. The CLA follows the E-Class, which was the highest-scoring car tested by the safety authority in 2024. Related: Mercedes Bet Everything on the CLA and Europe Just Named It Car of the Year Near-Perfect Safety Scores Mercedes CLA crash test Euro NCAP/YouTube View the 5 images of this gallery on the original article Not only was the CLA named the overall Best Performer by Euro NCAP, but it also earned the title for Best-in-Class Small Family Car. Despite being one of the smaller Merc models on sale, the CLA earned a 94% score for adult occupant protection. For child occupants, its safety score was 89%, and it also achieved 93% for vulnerable road user safety and 85% for safety assist technologies. Naturally, these superb scores earned the CLA a five-star overall rating. “Mercedes has a long-standing belief in investing in vehicle safety, so it feels appropriate for the CLA to earn the title of 2025’s Best Performer, as well as Best Small Family Car,” said Dr. Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP. “It was a close-run competition, however. Tesla was only fractionally behind, and new entrants like firefly and Leapmotor show how global competition continues to grow, which can only be a good thing for consumers who value safety as much as style, practicality, driving performance, and running costs from their next car.” Tesla continued its excellent reputation for safety, with the Model 3 and Model Y winning the Large Family Car and Small SUV categories, respectively. Both actually performed better than the CLA for child occupant safety and safety assist, but the CLA was better for adults and vulnerable road users. Related: Next-Gen Mercedes CLA EV Starts at $47k With Tesla-Beating Range CLA Packed With Safety Gear Mercedes-Benz The fully electric CLA 250+ with EQ Technology starts at $47,250 in the United States. Its safety specification is generous, even on the base model. Highlights include eight airbags (including a rare front center airbag), Distronic adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, blind-spot warning, and lane-keep assist. Even the much more expensive E-Class has one fewer airbag and requires an extra charge for evasive steering assist and Distronic. The CLA will also debut the new MB.Drive Assist Pro system in America, a Level 2 system that allows for point-to-point driving in urban areas. This system directly rivals the capabilities of Tesla’s advanced Full Self-Driving suite, but Merc charges just $3,950 for its Level 2 system, whereas FSD currently costs $8,000. Other than its top-notch safety credentials, the CLA features an impressive range of up to 374 miles on a full charge, and the 800-volt architecture allows you to add 100 miles of range in a mere five minutes. After Mercedes lost out to BMW in annual sales again, can the baby CLA be the car to turn things around for Mercedes-Benz? The newer hybrid will help it accomplish that, but as the CLA isn’t a crossover, it still has its work cut out for it. View the full article

  11. Porsche’s Sonderwunsch programme exists for customers who want more than options and paint samples. It is the brand’s highest level of factory personalisation, where one-off commissions turn already rare cars into singular design statements. The latest example is a bespoke 911 S/T created for Italian designer and Porsche collector Luca Trazzi, nicknamed “S/T Funky Minty”. At its core, Funky Minty is based on the highly sought-after Porsche 911 S/T, a model already limited to 1,963 examples worldwide. Porsche positions the S/T as a modern analogue 911, pairing a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six with a manual gearbox and a lightweight chassis philosophy that prioritises driver involvement over technology overload. View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article A One-Off Exterior And InteriorThe Sonderwunsch team finished Trazzi’s car in a custom Mint paint, contrasted sharply with white accents across the front bumper, a centre stripe running over the bonnet and roof, plus white window trims, mirrors, door handles, and centre-lock wheels. The result is playful but deliberate, standing apart from the more restrained specifications most S/T buyers have chosen. Inside, the mint theme continues. Mint highlights appear across the dashboard, steering wheel centre line, door panels, gear lever, carpet surrounds, and the custom carbon bucket seats. A backlit sill plate reading “S/T Funky Minty” confirms its one-of-one status, reinforcing that this car exists outside Porsche’s standard catalogue. View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Trazzi’s Sonderwunsch Track RecordFunky Minty is not Trazzi’s first deep dive into factory customisation. In 2024, he unveiled a one-off 993-based 911 Speedster finished in Otto Yellow, a car that drew attention because Porsche never produced a series-production 993 Speedster. Trazzi also commissioned a final-production 992 911 Dakar in a bold mix of Signal Yellow, Gentian Blue, and Lampedusa Blue, further underlining how Sonderwunsch customers are using color and design to create rolling calling cards. The 911 S/T is already trading well above its original MSRP, and Sonderwunsch commissions like Funky Minty push exclusivity even further. For Porsche, this reinforces a strategy focused on ultra-high-margin personalisation. For collectors, it shows how factory-backed one-offs are becoming as culturally significant as traditional limited editions, much like rare Turbo models and Speedsters. View the full article
  12. The average price of a new car in America has been a hot topic for months now, especially after this figure breached the psychological $50,000 mark for the first time in September. The mass exodus of affordable models like the Nissan Versa, Mitsubishi Mirage, and Chevrolet Spark haven’t helped things, either. Automakers are not oblivious to the need for more affordable vehicles, and Honda has just announced that it would increase production of cheaper, non-hybrid models in the United States—despite the rising popularity of its electrified models. Related: Average New Car Price Crosses $50K Barrier as Americans Struggle to Keep Up Hybrids Still Too Expensive Honda While hybrids promise lower gas bills, it often takes thousands of miles and even years of driving to make up for their higher prices. Take the Honda Civic Sedan, for instance, which starts at $24,695—that’s $4,700 less than the cheapest Civic Sedan Hybrid. There are many other examples of the hybrid price premium throughout Honda’s lineup. The Accord Hybrid is $5,400 more than the normal Accord, while the CR-V Hybrid costs $4,710 more than the non-hybrid CR-V. This affordability crisis, along with lower gas prices and the Trump administration’s more relaxed rules on fuel economy standards, contributed to Honda’s decision to increase production of non-hybrid models this year. Lance Woelfer, the head of U.S. sales operations for the automaker, communicated Honda’s plan at a media briefing, according to CBT News. Last year, Honda achieved record hybrid sales. 54% of all CR-Vs sold were hybrids, along with over 50% of all Accords and 36% of Civics. Related: Here's How Automakers are Raising New-Car Prices Without Changing the MSRP Non-Hybrid Base Trims In Demand Honda Non-hybrid models typically have fewer amenities than their hybrid siblings. This, along with the simpler powertrains, helps to keep the MSRP significantly lower. Therefore, we expect Honda to boost production of models like the CR-V LX and Civic LX. The demand for cheaper, base trims isn’t unique to Honda. Starting late last year, Ford said it was seeing a sharp increase in sales for base SUVs and pickup trucks. Last year, the cheapest Ford Ranger XL saw a massive 82.3% increase in sales, while sales of the base Maverick pickup truck increased by nearly 30%. “We’re growing share and beating the trend because we offer a great range of products, from accessible entry-level models to high-performance off-roaders,” said Andrew Frick, president, Ford Blue and Model e, earlier this year. Related: New Edmunds Data Exposes Bitter Reality of New Car Affordability Toyota Taking A Different Approach T While Honda and Ford are seeing strong demand for non-hybrid base models, Toyota’s current approach is to democratize hybrids. Yes, Toyota still has cheaper non-hybrids like the Corolla and Corolla Cross, but the latest Camry and RAV4 have switched over to hybrid-only powertrains exclusively. These Toyota hybrids are still available with frill-free base trims without the fanciest technologies and materials. However, they match the performance and efficiency advantage of pricier hybrid trims. New-car prices are still high but are expected to stabilize in the months ahead. If other manufacturers give more attention to base models, consumers won’t be forced to downsize or buy something that stretches their budget too far. View the full article

  14. The Police Pickup MarketPolice pickups aren't new. If anything, departments have been using them since, well, the invention of pickup trucks. But these days, we're seeing even more of them, and not just for specialized duties, as if we needed more headlight patterns to remember. Unsurprisingly, Ford, GM, and Stellantis have caught on to that by each offering special packages for its pickups. For Ram, that would be the 1500 SSV (Special Service Vehicle) and Heavy Duty SSV. Both trucks were given an update last year, and the 2026 model is ready to report for duty. Ram The PackageThe 1500 SSV is based on the Tradesman Crew Cab 4x4 trim. It then gets a 26-gallon tank, underbody skid plates, a 400w inverter, and a 115VAC outlet on the bed. Additional features include vinyl flooring, a bed liner, and a bed light. As for power, it's a choice between the familiar 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 305 hp and 271 lb-ft or the 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six (standard output) that puts out 420 hp and 469 lb-ft. As for the Heavy Duty SSV, it gets similar upgrades from the smaller 1500, but with the addition of instrument panel-mounted auxiliary switches. In addition, the Heavy Duty SSV is available in either regular cab (something you can't get in the 1500) or crew cab body styles. For engines, agencies can go for the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with 405 hp and 429 lb-ft, or the 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six turbodiesel that's good for 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft. Ram Not Just for CopsNotice these pickups are labeled as SSVs and not pursuit vehicles? Like any police package, other government agencies are more than welcome to use them. Fire departments are another common customer for these upfitted pickups. We can also include park rangers as frequent users of patrol trucks, along with other wildlife agencies. While there's no mention of whether these pickups are pursuit-rated, it hasn't stopped some departments from using them for a chase or two. Still, for its purpose, the upgrades made to both pickups should be more than enough for their future duties. Stellantis also makes other special service vehicles. Effectively succeeding the Charger is the DodgeDurango Pursuit with either the V6 Pentastar or 5.7-liter Hemi V8, both fitted with standard all-wheel drive. The other one is what's called the JeepGrand Wagoneer Command Operations Vehicle, perhaps something the police or fire chief would like to add to the fleet. It doesn't get a Hemi, though, as the sole engine choice is the Hurricane inline-six turbo. Ram View the full article
  15. Honda handed its three-row Pilot quite a substantial update recently. The 2026 model now looks a bit tougher and also enjoys a quieter interior, an upgraded suite of features, and retuned steering. These updates came at a good time, as this segment has gotten a boost from new arrivals like the Hyundai Palisade and imminently available Kia Telluride. However, there are still lease deals on the 2025 Honda Pilot for January. If you don’t absolutely need the latest tech but want a comfortable crossover at a reasonable price, here’s what you need to know. Related: Honda’s 2025 Was a Mess, But SUVs and Hybrids Saved It This Month’s Honda Pilot Lease Deals 2025 Honda Pilot Black Edition Honda View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article The Honda Pilot’s lease price begins at $389 per month over 36 months, with $5,099 due at signing. That’s for the 2025 EX-L with front-wheel drive, and includes 10,000 miles annually. If you exceed this mileage limit, a fee of $0.20 per mile will apply. The lease excludes tax, title, licensing, and registration costs. These Honda Pilot lease offers like this one run until March 2, 2026. It includes a $1,500 loyalty or conquest award amount, applicable to current owners of a 2010 or newer Honda, Chevrolet, Ford, Hyundai, Jeep, Kia, Mazda, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, or Volkswagen. This deal applies to residents in the following states: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, HI, IA, IN, KY, MA, ME, MI, MN, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, PA, RI, SD, UT, VT, WI. If you don’t live in one of these states, be sure to check out Honda’s special offers with your unique zip code. In total, there are four Pilot EX-L lease deals running right now, depending on the drivetrain and whether or not the loyalty/conquest discount is included. Here’s a look at all of them: EX-L FWD EX-L AWD EX-L FWD EX-L AWD Loyalty/conquest discount Yes Yes No No Lease cost per month $389 $389 $429 $429 Lease term 36 months 36 months 36 months 36 months Due at signing $5,099 $6,099 $5,099 $6,099 If you qualify for the loyalty/conquest incentive, your total lease costs for the cheapest EX-L FWD work out to $19,103. Without the incentive, that number increases to $20,543. If you’d rather buy a Honda Pilot, the 2025 model starts at $40,200 and goes up to $43,500 for the EX-L. If you’d prefer an updated 2026 model, those figures go up to $42,195 for the base trim and $44,495 for the EX-L. Related: 2025 Honda Pilot Vs. 2026 Acura MDX: 5 Key Differences Powertrains and Features Honda Whether you get the 2025 or 2026 Pilot, the engine stays the same. It’s a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 with 285 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. FWD is standard on EX-L models, but AWD is optional. All models have a ten-speed automatic transmission. The 2025 Pilot EX-L, the subject of this month’s lease deal, comes standard as an eight-seater model with leather upholstery. The following features are standard on the EX-L: Heated front seatsTen-way power driver’s seat with memory functionTri-zone automatic climate controlAuto-dimming rearview mirrorSeven-inch driver information screenNine-inch touchscreenNine-speaker sound systemAll Pilots are well-equipped with driver-assistance tech like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, traffic jam assist, and lane departure warning. Final ThoughtsThe Honda Pilot’s problem is not that it’s a bad vehicle, but simply that the standards in this class are exceedingly high. The Pilot also isn’t the cheapest, as even Kia’s all-new 2027 Telluride starts at under $40,000. Comparing the Honda Pilot’s leasing costs with the Telluride, Kia is still running deals on the outgoing 2025 Telluride, which can be leased for $369 per month with $3,999 down. That’s quite a bit cheaper than the 2025 Pilot, even with the Honda’s loyalty/conquest incentive. Still, if you want a proven three-row crossover with an uncomplicated V6, the Pilot remains a strong contender. View the full article
  16. A 40-year-old Ford worker suspended after confronting Pres. Donald Trump during a tour of his plant has been the beneficiary of two GoFundMe campaigns that, as of Thursday morning had raised over $800,000. One, named TJ Sabula is a patriot has raised almost $500,000, while the other, Support Ford Worker TJ Sabula during suspension, has raised over $330,000. TJ Sabula, a father of two young children, made headlines after calling Trump a “pedophile protecter” while he walked through the Ford River Rouge facility that produces the automaker’s F-150 pickups. The president responded with a pair of vulgarities while “flipping the bird” at Sabula. The case has been handed off to Ford’s Human Resources department, company Chairman Bill Ford told Autoblog, which suspended Sabula for violating the company’s code of conduct which emphasizes respect. But the United Auto Workers Union, which represents the plant, has stepped in to “ensure that our member receives the full protection of all negotiated contract language safeguarding his job and his rights as a union member.” In turn, the UAW statement called out the “vulgar language” used by the president during the incident. “Pedophile Protector” W During a visit of the River Rouge Complex in the Detroit suburb of Michigan, the president walked along the Ford assembly line and posed with some workers for selfies. But the tour took on a decidedly different tone when Trump approached Sabula’s station. The worker accused Trump of being a “pedophile protector,” a theme that has frequently been sounded in recent months due to links to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Congress recently ordered the turnover of documents collectively known as the “Epstein files,” but the U.S. Justice Department has so far failed to release all but a small number of heavily redacted records. For his part, Trump has repeatedly tried to downplay the Epstein case. Questions about it routinely generate a harsh response during media briefings and other events. After Sabula’s confrontation, the president responded by twice shouting “F** you” at the worker and then “flipping him the bird,” in colloquial terms. The White House later issued a statement claiming, “A lunatic was wildly screaming expletives in a complete fit of rage,” Communications Director Steven Cheung declaring what the president did “an appropriate and unambiguous response.” “No Regrets” – and a Lot of Support White House Press Pool For his part, Sabula told the Washington Post that he had “No regrets” for what he said to the president. But he did say he is concerned about now “targeted for political retribution” and the possibility he will be fired for “embarrassing Trump in front of his friends.” During an appearance at a Detroit Auto Show preview Tuesday night Ford Chairman Bill Ford called the confrontation “unfortunate,” adding that he was “embarrassed” by what happened. But he told Autoblog he was not getting involved in any possible corporate moves to discipline Sabula. Ford Executive Director of Communications David Tovar subsequently stated that, “One of our core values is respect and we don’t condone anyone saying anything inappropriate like that within our facilities. When that happens we have a process to deal with it but we don’t get into specific personnel matters.” While Sabula is currently on suspension, he is receiving significant support from a variety of fronts. Two GoFundMe CampaignsWorking at Ford can be lucrative, with blue collar wages running between $39,000 and $54,000 a year before factoring in extensive benefits and other compensation covered by the automaker’s latest contract with the UAW. So, it’s quickly apparent why Sabula might worry about his job on the line. But two GoFundMe campaigns launched by Sabula’s supporters – including one declaring him “a patriot” – could soften the blow should he be terminated. Together they have now raised about $800,000 from around 35,000 donors. A comment on one of the campaigns, posted Wednesday night by someone identifying himself as Sabula, said, “We greatly appreciate the outpouring of support! At this time we are closing donations to this campaign and encourage you to look for other causes and organizations to support. We appreciate every single donation, comment, share, and sign of support!" It's far from certain Sabula will face more trouble than his current suspension. The UAW’s current contract has strict language limiting the reasons why a worker can be terminated. In its statement, the union said Sabula “believes in freedom of speech, a principle we wholeheartedly embrace, and we stand with our membership with protecting their voice on the job.” The union made it clear it will go to the mat to protect the worker to make sure he “receives the full protection of all negotiated contract language safeguarding his job and his rights as a union member.” View the full article
  17. Tesla’s Share Starts to SlipUS electric vehicle sales in 2025 landed at about 1.28 million units, slipping roughly 2 percent from the 1.3 million sold in 2024. After years of steady growth, this marks the first dip, as buyers recalibrated in reaction to shifting incentives and higher prices at the dealership. Tesla still leads the US EV market, but its dominance is slipping, according to the EV sales data published by Cox Automotive. The brand held about 48.7 percent of sales in 2024, but that dropped to 46.2 percent in 2025. There are plenty of reasons for this, but primarily, buyers now have more choices, and Tesla is no longer the only name in the game. A number of causes played into the EV industry's overall slowdown: the federal EV tax credit expired, prices stayed high across most models, and an influx of new competitors hit the market. EVs still make up a solid chunk of sales, but the rapid-fire growth of previous years has clearly cooled off. Other Brands Gaining GroundAs Tesla’s share slipped, other brands picked up the slack. General Motors sold 169,887 EVs in 2025 – a jump of about 48 percent over 2024, and more than double Ford’s EV numbers. GM’s push to expand its lineup is finally paying off in real sales. Meanwhile, brands like Hyundai, Chevrolet, and Cadillac made progress with updated or expanded models, showing that the EV race is far from settled. Not every established brand had a good year. Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, and Kia all posted lower EV sales compared to 2024. Nissan and Mercedes-Benz weren’t a surprise as their lineups of EVs are aging. Kia, on the other hand, had a massive dip despite a strong EV sales performance in the previous year. Chevrolet Specific Models That Stood OutAmong specific models, the Tesla Model Y continued to lead overall US EV deliveries, with strong sales that kept it atop the year’s rankings. The Model 3 also remained a major contributor, although particular quarterly data suggested that both experienced softer year-end results compared with 2024. Among non-Tesla competitors, the Chevrolet Equinox EV and other mainstream crossovers made noticeable contributions. Other brands like Cadillac are also finding some traction with new electric SUVs, though none are close to matching Tesla’s sales just yet. 18. Volkswagen’s retro-futuristic electric van has found a new stage outside the auto show floor. The Volkswagen ID. Buzz appears prominently in Bradley Cooper’s new film Is This Thing On?, positioning the EV as more than a background prop and tying it directly into the movie’s central story about family, transition, and reinvention. The film, directed by Bradley Cooper and starring Will Arnett and Laura Dern, follows a couple navigating separation and co-parenting while reassessing their identities in midlife. Within that framework, the ID. Buzz serves as the main character’s family vehicle, appearing repeatedly as a constant during key moments rather than as a fleeting product placement. View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article More Than A Cameo RoleAccording to Volkswagen, the ID. Buzz was deliberately written into the film as part of the lead character’s attempt to reset his life and reconnect with his children. The van is portrayed as something he chooses, not inherits, reinforcing the idea of a fresh start. Cooper has described the vehicle as reflecting both nostalgia and reinvention, themes that mirror the arc of the characters themselves. That positioning aligns closely with how Volkswagen has marketed the ID. Buzz since its debut. As the spiritual successor to the Microbus, the Buzz trades heavily on emotional appeal and cultural memory, aiming to stand out in an EV market often dominated by range figures and charging speeds. Volkswagen Cultural Exposure Meets Market RealityThe big-screen appearance comes at a complicated time for the ID. Buzz in the U.S. While the van has generated strong interest and visibility, Volkswagen has also acknowledged production pauses and strategic reassessments. At the same time, the Buzz has continued to score well in objective measures, including safety. This adds credibility to its family-friendly image as portrayed in the film. Still, challenges remain, as pricing has been a sticking point too. The clash between what a brand dreams of being and what the market actually demands makes the film placement particularly striking. Why It MattersBy placing the ID. Buzz at the centre of a character-driven Hollywood film, Volkswagen is showing a new approach to raising awareness about electric vehicles. Instead of focusing on technical details, they’re highlighting identity and lifestyle. It’s still uncertain if this cultural presence will lead to lasting demand, but the strategy makes it clear that the ID. Buzz is intended to be a symbol, not just a car. View the full article
  19. Mercedes-Benz is clearly going out of its way to keep momentum behind its electric G-Wagon. The brand has now doubled its incentive bonus to $10,000, according to CarsDirect, up from the previous $5,000, which shows Merc is very well aware of the current state of the EV market – annual EQS sales have not exceeded 30,000 units. The updated deal applies to both purchases and leases, giving buyers more flexibility than before. It also shows that even at the very top end of the luxury spectrum, automakers are having to work harder to keep electric models competitive. A Bigger Incentive On A Very Expensive Luxury SUV Mercedes-Benz The new $10,000 bonus is the largest incentive Mercedes has ever offered on the electric G-Class. It applies to the G 580 with EQ Technology, and replaces earlier deals that were limited to lease customers. On paper, a five-figure cut sounds dramatic, but in reality, it trims just over 6% off a vehicle that still starts at more than $160,000. That makes the electric G-Wagon slightly easier to justify, though it remains one of the most expensive electric SUVs on sale. While the expensive side of the EV market cools down, leaders like GM continue to argue that electric vehicles are the long-term winner. As a result, brands are constantly adjusting their strategies to keep buyers engaged rather than stepping away, like Mercedes-Benz is doing. How The Electric G-Wagon Stacks Up Against Rivals BMW Lucid Rivian Just like its petrol-powered sibling, the electric G-Class is all about status. Four electric motors deliver 579 hp and 859 lb-ft of torque, pushing the nearly 6,700-lb SUV to 60 mph in just over 4 seconds, while its range sits at around 239 miles. Those numbers are respectable, but in the luxury EV space, they don't stand out. Rivals such as the BMW iX, Lucid Gravity, and Rivian R1S offer more range and stronger value for money. The quad-motor R1S, for instance, delivers more than 1,000 hp, has a claimed 0 to 60 mph time of 2.5 seconds, can do over 400 miles per charge, and starts at just over $120,000. A Tiny Discount For A Niche Market There is no denying that overall interest for EVs has declined – especially lavish ones – and Mercedes is very well aware of that. Therefore, there are plans in motion for a baby electric G-Wagon aimed at buyers with a tighter budget. Still, the bigger picture suggests electric vehicles are far from fading. Mini sold more than 100,000 EVs in 2025, showing that demand remains strong among the right audience. But on the other hand, buyers are more value-conscious than ever before, hence why BYD has overtaken Tesla as the world’s largest EV seller. Will the electric G-Wagon’s $10,000 bonus translate to millions of sales overnight? No. But it could be enough to sway buyers who are already torn between the traditional V8 icon and its electric successor. At least until 2 February, when the incentive expires. View the full article

  21. The Bentley Batur is rare, with just 18 examples being made, and the Batur Convertible is even more unlikely to be seen at a Cars & Coffee, with only 16 planned. So how do you make one of these extraordinary vehicles stand out even more? By allowing a customer's individualization options to be nearly limitless, and that's the case with the Batur Convertible #4, which has just been completed, showcasing new ways of customizing the most exceptional of Bentley products. In fact, the Crewe-based automaker says this "represents the most luxurious commission to date with Mullinter Coachbuilt." Presumably, the coming Batur Convertibles will offer similar enhancements, but for now, this is the zenith of Mulliner bespoke artistry. Four New Ways of Making Ultra-Luxury Even More Special Bentley View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article This Batur Convertible is the first to be customized in a quartet of new avenues, formerly unavailable to even the wealthiest Bentley customers. Batur Convertible #4 is the first Bentley to have a tri-toe color scheme using the customer's own colors, the first to have a color-matched bespoke roof color, the first to feature an animated welcome lamp design created by its commissioning customer, and the first to wear 3D-printed platinum. The upper color of the car, Breslow Blue, is what appears on the fabric roof, and when this is stowed, the 'Airbridge' behind the seats is revealed in the same color. Bentley View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article A Midnight Breslow Blue hood pinstripe matches the lower bodywork and reappears in accents on the wheels and wing mirrors, while a 6-millimeter-thick gloss-silver stripe on the hood adds contrast. Polished titanium exhaust tips and bright silver grilles bring it all together. As for the welcome lamp, this projects a handwritten script of the customer's name — Sonia Breslow — using 415,800 microscopic mirrors. Batur Convertible #4 Has an Exquisite Interior Bentley View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article Inside, tan and caramel hues are accented by the same light blue as the upper part of the exterior and the Airbridge, with contrast stitching on the tonneau, seats, and instrument panel. In the deep-pile floor mats, the Batur volcano that inspired the vehicle's name is outlined, while the Bentley Rotating Display gets bespoke colored faces, matching the satin blue clock face. Bright aluminum in an "engine spin finish" ties the exterior to the cabin, and the 3D-printed platinum mentioned earlier is found on the center marker of the steering wheel, as well as each organ stop. Of course, not just anyone can convince Mulliner to allow such extensive personalization; this Batur Convertible joins a collection that includes a Blower Continuation Series, a Speed Six Continuation Series, and a Bacalar. Sonia Breslow, you've helped design a masterpiece. Hopefully, you'll use the 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12's 740 horsepower as often as possible. View the full article
  22. The cost of buying a new car in the US crossed another psychological threshold at the end of last year. New data from Kelley Blue Book shows that the average transaction price for a new vehicle topped $50,000 in December, marking the highest monthly figure ever recorded and underscoring how far the market has shifted from pre-pandemic norms. Kelley Blue Book reports the average buyer paid just over $50,300 for a new vehicle in December, up slightly from November and higher than a year earlier. This is not a sticker price average but the real-world figure consumers actually paid at dealerships. It reflects a market where higher-priced vehicles dominate sales and where affordability pressures continue to build. Trucks, SUVs, and the Mix ProblemOne of the biggest drivers behind the $50,000 average is the type of vehicles Americans are buying. Full-size pickup trucks and SUVs continue to account for a growing share of sales, and both segments carry transaction prices well above the market average. In December alone, buyers spent a record amount on full-size pickups, many of which now regularly transact above $65,000 when equipped with popular trims and options. This mix shift matters more than across-the-board price hikes. Entry-level cars still exist, but they represent a shrinking slice of the market. As buyers gravitate toward larger, better-equipped vehicles, the average price naturally rises even if individual model pricing remains relatively stable. Affordability Pressures Keep BuildingThe $50,000 milestone lands at a time when affordability is already under strain. Recent Edmunds data exposes the reality of new-car affordability showing that monthly payments and loan terms are stretching further than ever. Higher interest rates combined with higher transaction prices mean many buyers are paying more each month, even when incentives increase. Automakers have attempted to soften the blow with larger discounts toward the end of the year, but incentives have not been enough to reverse the broader pricing trend. December followed a familiar seasonal pattern where year-end demand and premium vehicle sales push averages higher. Looking ahead, there is little indication that average new-car prices will meaningfully retreat. GM and Toyota have warned buyers that new-car prices are unlikely to drop in 2026, citing ongoing cost pressures, regulatory requirements, and consumer demand for high-content vehicles. Even design trends, such as lighting and technology features, point to an industry increasingly focused on complexity and differentiation rather than cost reduction. Jay L Clendenin/Getty Images Why It MattersCrossing $50,000 is more than just a number. It highlights how the US new-car market is drifting further away from mass affordability and closer to a premium-led model, with implications for buyers, lenders, and automakers alike. 23. Last month, Porsche said it would be increasing prices of new cars by up to 2.9%, depending on the model. This move comes as a result of the Trump administration’s tariffs. Porschealready increased prices at least twice in 2025, and this latest price hike is now evident in the staggering starting price of the 911. The base 911 now begins at $135,500, and that increases to $137,850 once you add the expensive destination charge of $2,350. In roughly half a decade, the cheapest 911 has seen prices rise by around $40,000. Related: Here's How Automakers are Raising New-Car Prices Without Changing the MSRP Iconic Sports Car, Epic Price P Before this latest price increase, the base 911 had a starting price of $134,650, including the destination charge. It’s now $3,200 pricier, representing a 2.4% increase, which is within the range Porsche promised last month. Other 911 variants have been affected by the price jump, too. The mid-range Carrera S now costs $158,550 including destination, up by $4,500 (+2.9%), while the Carrera 4 GTS costs an eye-watering $191,650, up by $5,300 (+2.8%). If you want the breathtakingly quick 911 Turbo S, it will set you back $272,650—the same variant cost $217,550 back in 2023. To be fair, the Turbo S justifies its hefty price for 2026 somewhat, as it has a new T-Hybrid powertrain that produces combined outputs of 701 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Going back to the base 911 for a second, this model started at just below $100,000 back in 2020. In roughly half a decade, it’s $40,000 more expensive. Is The Base 911 Still Worth It? Porsche The cheapest Porsche 911 still has a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine that produces 388 hp. It’ll reach 60 mph in 3.9 seconds without any options. This is still a remarkably well-rounded sports car that thrills on a twisty road but is compliant enough to work as a daily driver. But it’s impossible to look past the performance cars you can get for less money. The base Chevrolet Corvette starts at $70,000, almost exactly half the price of the cheapest 911, yet packs a 495-hp V8. For just $117,700, you can drive off in the Corvette Z06 with its monster of a flat plane crank V8, which makes 670 hp. In performance and drama, it’s in a clear league above the base 911. 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Chevrolet View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article The Mercedes-AMG GT 55 has a 469-hp V8 and starts at $138,150, around the same as the base 911. It’s slightly quicker to 60, sounds better, and is a lot more luxurious. After some Italian flair? The Maserati GranTurismo starts at $145,000 and has almost 100 horses more than the 911. The 911 is still the benchmark, but it’s becoming more and more challenging to find a rational reason to spend so much more on one. View the full article

  25. Putting a positive spin on declining sales is tough, but Audi has tried. While BMW and Mercedes each recorded over 100,000 more U.S. sales in 2025 than Audi did, the Ingolstadt-based automaker reports that things began improving in September, with deliveries rising year-on-year in every month thereafter. Audi also delivered a record 223,000 electric vehicles in 2025, a remarkable 36% increase spearheaded by the A6 e-tron (37,000 units) and the Q6 e-tron (84,000 units). However, Audi saw an overall decline worldwide of three percent compared to 2024, delivering a little over 1.6 million vehicles last year. Audi's Sales Figures Lag Behind Key Rivals Audi Audi delivered over 202,000 units in North America in 2025, a decline of 12.2%. Meanwhile, Mercedes shifted 343,200 cars in the U.S., and the BMW Group broke another sales record, selling over 400,000 cars in America. Granted, the latter figure includes Mini, but still, Audi's rivals seem to be doing better. Audi notes that "geopolitical and economic challenges" pressured its deliveries, essentially blaming tariffs for at least some of its decline in U.S. sales. Other markets weren't especially encouraging either. Audi recorded 464,000 deliveries in Europe, matching the previous year's output, but like many of its peers, the company saw a decline in China, dropping deliveries by five percent to 618,000 vehicles. Related: Audi Recalls Over 356,000 Vehicles Across 19 Models As reported by Reuters, Audi cut its full-year profitability forecast twice last year while contending with restructuring costs and technological setbacks. "An intense competitive environment in China and U.S. tariff policy affected the entire automotive sector and shaped global consumer behavior," said the automaker. So is it all doom and gloom? Not according to Audi execs. Audi Expects Continued Momentum in 2026 Audi Audi says that its newest vehicles should help improve the outlook this year, with March Schubert, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing, saying, "Our product initiative is hitting the road, and deliveries are gradually reflecting this. In 2025, we were mainly able to achieve increases for electric models. [...] We want to continue this upward trajectory in 2026." Audi recently won the China Car of the Year award, and with buttons returning to its cabins, as well as the possible arrival of a new sub-R8 sports car before long, the company can claw back some of the ground it's been losing to BMW and Mercedes. A new partnership with Rivian should also be beneficial, though that will take longer to bear fruit. In the meantime, Audi's compatriots in Stuttgart and Munich will be looking over their shoulders.
