Genesis Put Tank Tracks on an SUV as It Explores Extreme Off-Road Luxury
Genesis builds some of the best bang-for-your-buck luxury SUVs on the market, but the brand is now pushing those vehicles in a very different direction. Far from paved roads, Genesis has revealed three off-road-focused models designed to handle extreme terrain: the GV60 Outdoors Concept, GV70 Outdoors Concept, and GV80 Desert Edition. Shown clawing their way up vast sand dunes, the trio shows that, despite already having a diverse model lineup, Genesis is eager to explore new ground. GV60 and GV70 Outdoors: Compact Luxury, Rugged Intent Genesis Let's address the elephant in the room first: the GV60 Outdoors Concept. No, your eyes aren't deceiving you; those are continuous tracks you'd usually find on military tanks or snowmobiles, designed to conquer any terrain imaginable. The GV60 Outdoors is based on the electric GV60, and comes with some added off-road goodies like a roof rack and extra lighting. Genesis says it's "designed for operation in rugged terrains and challenging weather conditions" – basically what the upcoming baby G-Wagon aspires to be. The GV70 Outdoors Concept, on the other hand, is much closer to its road-going version. First shown as the GV70 Snow Concept in St. Moritz, it features a revised suspension for added ground clearance, roof-mounted accessories, chunkier tires, and dedicated off-road lighting. Crucially, it retains the current GV70's design language, suggesting this is the model most likely to resonate with buyers if Genesis ever greenlights this off-road variant – perfect to take on BMW's upcoming line of off-road SUV variants. GV80 Desert Edition: Luxury SUV With Dakar DNA Genesis At the top of the food chain sits the GV80 Desert Edition. Developed with Middle Eastern specialist W Motors – the brand responsible for the Lykan Hypersport – this rugged GV80 celebrates the 80th birthday of one of the most versatile racing drivers of all time, and Genesis brand partner, Jacky Ickx. Genesis says the goal of the GV80 Desert Edition was to "deliver style, resilience and elevated performance", without sacrificing any of the road-going GV80's comfort and refinement. Part Of a Broader Off-Road Vision Genesis These three vehicles were showcased alongside the extreme 1,100-hp X Skorpio Concept, underscoring Genesis’ wider concept-car strategy. From the elegant G90 Wingback wagon concept to the Magma GT mid-engine supercar pipedream, and even the forgotten-about electric pickup truck idea, Genesis continues to use bold concepts to test emotional, lifestyle-driven ideas – even if not all of them are destined for production. BMW Will Begin Fitting Its Updated Roundel to New Cars Next Month
BMW is preparing a subtle but widespread branding update, with BMWBlog reporting the automaker will begin fitting a revised physical BMW roundel to all newly built vehicles starting in February. The change is not a full redesign, instead it is a refinement of the familiar badge meant to look cleaner and more modern as BMW transitions into its next design and technology era. What Changes On The New BadgeFirst seen on the Neue Klasse iX3, the revised emblem removes the inner chrome ring and the chrome outlining inside the blue and white quadrants, replacing the shinier look with a darker, more satin finish on the outer ring. The result is a simpler, more contemporary appearance that aligns with the direction BMW has been taking in digital branding and in newer product styling. BMW is moving away from using a distinct EV focused badge treatment, which would standardize the roundel across gas, hybrid, and electric models so the powertrain is not signaled by the logo itself. BMW View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Where It Will Show Up And What It Means For OwnersBMWBlog describes the rollout as a factory change for new production rather than a retrofit program, meaning buyers will see the updated badge arrive naturally as model year builds continue. The report indicates the hood badge will be the most consistent place to expect the new roundel, while details about other locations such as the trunk, wheel center caps, and steering wheel may vary by model and timing. The badge first appeared publicly in BMWs Neue Klasse context, which gives the update added significance, because it ties the emblem change to a larger shift in how BMW wants its cars to feel and present. The badge update arrives as BMW expands its future facing lineup and its regional product strategy. Neue Klasse products are expected to anchor that shift, starting with the iX3. BMW has also been thinking about identity beyond design surfaces, including how its electric performance cars might feel emotionally familiar. That kind of retrofuturistic approach matches the logo update, which keeps the heritage shape but modernizes the execution. The same branding logic is likely to carry into the next generation of BMWs largest models too. View the full article

Jason Harris Reflects on First Elite Motorsports Million Attempt
Pro Modified’s first million-dollar prize will have to wait at least another year, as Snowbird Outlaw Nationals winner Jason Harris’s attempt at the inaugural Elite Motorsports Million came to an end Sunday when he lost in the second round at the U.S. Street Nationals presented by M&M Transmission at Bradenton Motorsports Park. After winning the Snowbirds, Harris needed to win the other two races in the Drag Illustrated Winter Series presented by J&A Service, the U.S. Street Nationals and the DI World Series of Pro Mod, to win the $1 million bonus from Elite Motorsports. Harris was understandably dejected after his second-round loss to Derek Menholt, but he also recognized the odds were against him. “I think we all looked at the Million when it first came out and thought it’s not feasible, but then I think when you actually get in the seat where you think you can do it, then it is feasible,” Harris said. “It’s not like I lost it by a thousandth. I lost it by a lot of rounds. I had to go 10 more rounds to be perfect [after the Snowbirds], so everything had to be perfect. Car had to be perfect. I had to be perfect. That’s going to be a hard feat. Is it impossible? No, but it’s a very, very hard task.” By qualifying No. 1 at the Snowbirds, Harris was also contending for the Jerry Bickel Race Cars Clean Sweep Challenge, which offered up a brand-new Pro Mod rolling chassis for any driver who could qualify No. 1 at all three races. Harris ended up No. 2 on the final qualifying order for the U.S. Street Nationals with a 3.556 at 2111.33 behind Jimmy Taylor’s 3.555 at 224.77. Once qualifying was over, Harris came out swinging. He drew former PDRA Pro Nitrous rival Jim Halsey in the opening round. Harris unleashed a .009 reaction time and a 3.547 at 211.89 – second-quickest of the round – to get past Halsey, who lifted to a 5.443. He was aggressive again in the second round against Menholt, leaving first with a .017 to Menholt’s .037. Harris’s Harts Charger-boosted “Party Time” ’69 Camaro was ahead at the 60-foot mark, but he lost traction and coasted to a 5.156 while Menholt ran a 3.565, eventually reaching the final round. Just like that, the dream was over. Never before had Harris raced for so much on the line, and similarly, losing the round stung a little more than the average second-round loss. “I’ve had a lot of pressure on me this weekend,” Harris admitted. “Losing No. 1 by a couple thousandths hurt. I lost a lot of money this weekend. I lost $12,000 for No. 1 and Off the Trailer bonuses. I lost a $250,000 race car, and I lost a million dollars and $75,000 for winning here. I feel like Vegas has kicked my butt this weekend. But, it is what it is.” Harris wasn’t sulking for too long after the second-round exit. He was back in the Strange Engineering VIP Tent for the third-round chip draw to support teammate John Doc, who ended up losing to Menholt as well in the quarterfinals. Harris noted that he’s already moving on to the Winter Series finale, the World Series of Pro Mod, Feb. 26-28, at Bradenton. “We’ve got a great team. We just missed it a little bit. That’s all it is,” Harris said. “When you’re running mid-.50s, and with the competition you’ve got right now, you’ve got to keep it at the fastest possible. Maybe we got a little greedy there, but that’s something you don’t really see out of my team, shaking the tires like that. I’ve been driving great. I feel like I was on my game. We win as a team, lose as a driver, but this weekend, we’re gonna pick ourselves back up, come back to the World Series, and I’m looking forward to that because that’s one I’d like to put on my resume.” This story was originally published on January 29, 2026. 2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Arrives To Reclaim Its Luxury Crown
Timed perfectly to coincide with Mercedes-Benz’s 140th anniversary, the German marque has unveiled the 2027 S-Class. Although not an entirely new generation, this is more than a gentle update of the flagship luxury sedan, as over 50% and roughly 2,700 components are new or re-engineered. After BMW retained the luxury sales crown in the United States last year, Mercedes must be keen to regain it, and the significantly revised S-Class will help it achieve that. Here’s a closer look at all that’s new for what has long been considered the luxury sedan benchmark. Exterior Design: Stars, So Many Stars 2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Mercedes-Benz View the 5 images of this gallery on the original article From the side and back, it’s obvious that this is an updated version of the W223 S-Class. It’s got the same elegant lines as before, and a reserved authority about it that’s missing from the garish BMW 7 Series. But walk up to the new face, and it’s clear that quite a lot has changed. Mercedes-Benz For the first time, the S-Class has an illuminated grille, which itself has grown by 20%. Besides the star ornament on the hood, which is thankfully still in place (and can also be illuminated), there are four rows of three-dimensional stars across the grille. New Digital Light twin-star headlights also have a star pattern. Those headlights are not just for show, though, as a new Ultra Range high beam can illuminate a length that’s longer than five American football fields. A new partial high beam function is also available in the U.S. for the first time. There are some new paints from the Manufaktur program, including Black Sparkling and Verde Silver Magno, but customers can choose from over 150 paints via the Manufaktur Made to Measure program. The S gains some assertiveness in this latest update, but some may argue that the pre-facelift version was prettier. Interior Design: A Leather-Lined Supercomputer 2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Mercedes-Benz View the 5 images of this gallery on the original article Combining the best Mercedes-Benz technologies with fine craftsmanship, the 2027 S-Class has a gorgeous interior that now more closely resembles the one in the EQS. The MBUX Superscreen takes center stage, with a 14.4-inch center display combined with a 12.3-inch passenger-side display; this is a step up from the 12.8-inch touchscreen in the 2026 U.S.-spec S-Class. The fourth-generation MBUX system debuts in the latest sedan, and is powered by the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS). With AI integrations like ChatGPT4o and Google Cloud’s Automotive AI Agent, you can think of the S-Class as a digital companion. Whether you want answers to complex questions or you’d like the car to activate numerous functions by voice, it all happens seamlessly and quickly. Mercedes-Benz But it wouldn’t be an S-Class if it was all gadgetry and no luxury. New wood inlays, door trim elements, and even heated seatbelts are equipped. A new Digital Vent Control system with an electric filter purifies the air every 90 seconds, helping to keep any allergies at bay. As ever, seating comfort is a priority, with heating/ventilation/massage all available. A new Leather Package includes upholstered rear seat cushions, and the new Pinnacle Plus Package can recline the executive rear seat by 43.5 degrees. Dual 13.1-inch displays are available for those at the back, and these have HD cameras to conduct easy video conferences. Tech Highlights Mercedes-Benz Merc’s 22-page press release underlines the extent of the changes to the S-Class, many of which involve tech enhancements. Here’s a summary of some of the key changes: Digital Light headlights with micro-LED technologyNew MB.OS supercomputer with AI-powered capabilitiesUp to 15 airbags, including optional rear airbagsAvailable heated seat beltsEnhanced adaptive restraint systemMB.Drive advanced driver-assistance systemsNew water-cooled computer with power for future functionsEnhanced parking assistanceNew MBUX Surround Navigation with 3D view of vehicle surroundsTwo new Burmester surround sound systemsMercedes mentioned its MB.Drive Assist Pro will have market-specific driving assistance. The new CLA can already handle point-to-point autonomous driving in the U.S., so we expect at least this level of capability in the new S-Class. “The S-Class has always defined automotive innovation,” said Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management, Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Chief Technology Officer. “With MB.OS and its AI-driven capabilities, our flagship enters a new era of intelligence. Every seat offers an elevated Mercedes-Benz experience, powered by the MBUX Virtual Assistant, the MB.DRIVE suite of advanced driver assistance systems, and next-generation rear-seat entertainment.” Related: Self-Driving Mercedes S-Class is a Threat BMW Can’t Ignore What About The Powertrains? Mercedes-Benz Three models will be available: S500 4Matic, S580 4Matic, and S580 e 4Matic. The S500 and S580 e use a new 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine, augmented by an electric motor in the latter. In the S580, there’s a new 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft—we can't wait to hear what this V8 sounds like. The S500 and S580 are mild hybrids, with a 23-horsepower integrated starter generator. Here’s a look at how they compare. Mercedes says the engines are more responsive, and it has somehow improved the vehicle’s already impressive noise, vibration, and harshness levels. An even more potent S63 is coming, too, and has already been spied. Related: 2027 Mercedes-AMG S 63 Spied Inside and Out With New V8 and Fresh Looks Final Thoughts Mercedes-Benz Pricing for the new S-Class hasn’t been shared yet, but the 2026 model starts at $119,500, so it should be a little pricier than that when it goes on sale later this year. There’s a lot to take in, as is the case with every S-Class update, but the sedan is expected to once again be sublime to drive and be driven in. The new MBUX and MB.OS systems will undoubtedly be faster than ever, but we’ll have to wait to drive the car to see how intuitive everything is. We look forward to a heated battle with the BMW 7 Series soon as Mercedes looks intent to remind everyone who the boss is in the luxury world. View the full article

EV Growth Is Already Cutting Neighborhood Air Pollution Across California
A new paper in The Lancet Planetary Health uses real registration data and satellite readings to show that as zero-emission vehicles increase in California neighborhoods, nitrogen dioxide levels drop measurably over the same years. View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article ZEV Growth And The Dataset Behind The ClaimResearchers matched yearly changes in zero-emission vehicle registrations with yearly average nitrogen dioxide levels, using satellite measurements across California from 2019 through 2023. They looked at 1,687 ZIP Code Tabulation Areas, which are Census versions of ZIP codes, covering essentially the entire state’s population. Over those five years, zero-emission vehicles grew from a small slice of California’s light-duty fleet to a noticeably larger one, while the number of gas vehicles on the books did not swing dramatically. The study also compared the satellite pollution readings to ground stations and found they tracked closely enough to support neighborhood-level analysis. The Key Result In Plain NumbersAfter the researchers adjusted for broader time trends and local shifts in factors like population, education, work-from-home share, and fuel prices, they found that when a neighborhood added 200 more zero-emission vehicles, its annual average nitrogen dioxide level was about 1.1% lower, with the estimate tightly bounded in the study’s confidence range of -1.19% to -1.00%. To check that the result was not being driven by unusual conditions in a single year or by very small ZIP areas, they reran the model without 2020 and still saw a similar relationship, about a 1.3% drop per 200 zero-emission vehicles, and when they excluded ZIP areas with fewer than 500 residents they still found a drop, closer to 0.8% per 200 vehicles. They also ran a “positive control” to confirm the analysis behaved as expected in the opposite direction, and they found that adding 800 gasoline vehicles in a neighborhood was associated with about a 0.8% increase in nitrogen dioxide, which supports the idea that changes in what gets registered locally track with changes in the pollution level measured for that same area. Finally, they compared the satellite-based approach to a separate “ground-truth” model using 123 EPA monitoring sites over a longer 2012 to 2023 window, and while that check was less precise, it pointed the same way, with the estimate suggesting about a 0.9% drop per 200 zero-emission vehicles and a wider confidence range from -1.76% to 0.03%. Why This Matters In The Policy NoiseThis is a solid, observed air-quality shift tied to real ZEV adoption, which is the kind of evidence that will keep showing up in arguments over standards and enforcement, whether that is overseas concerns, local debates about upstream emissions, or the legal pushbacks involved. The Wienie 500 Is Back, and Yes, the Wienermobiles Are Racing Again
A Sleeper HitGreat ideas aren't always commercially viable. However, the Wienie 500 was proof that a silly idea or two is worth the financial risk. The first Wienie 500 was held during last year's Carb Day festivities. It turns out that putting together six Wienermobiles to race around Indy is a formula for success. It was a huge hit, with 85,000 people on the stands watching these glorious 27-foot-long machines trundle around the track. That's a lot of folks for a novelty race, but it pales in comparison to livestream viewers with about 8 million glued to their screens. It was so successful that it actually merited a return this year, and we're all here for it. The RaceWhile it says 500 on the name, the fleet of Oscar-Meyer Wienermobiles won't be driving 500 miles around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Instead of the full 200 laps, they'll be running just two instead. It doesn't sound all too exciting, but judging by the reception of last year's race, there's plenty of excitement. This year, Oscar Meyer is going all out on the novelties and puns. "The response to the first Wienie 500 was overwhelming, and we heard the fans loud and clear that they were hungry for more. This year, we're supercharging the experience, delivering an even bigger, bolder, and more unforgettable event that puts the fans at the forefront. With amplified engagement, intensified rivalries, and more surprises in store, we're giving the people what they want – an unparalleled live experience that will leave them craving more," said Kelsey Rice, brand communications director at Oscar Mayer. On race day, each Weinermobile will have its own unique decals, and drivers will don their Hotdogger racing suits. The pre-race ceremony will include the Wiener Song anthem. Slaw Dog to Defend TitleThe five Wienermobiles that will race on Carb Day will be Slaw Dog (Southeast), Chi Dog (Midwest), New York Dog (East), Chili Dog (South), and Seattle Dog (Northwest). Why only five instead of six, you ask? Sonoran Dog (Southwest) won't be running this year as it 'failed to cut the mustard' following last year's heartbreaking mechanical issue. Slaw Dog was last year's winner, or should we say, wiener of the inaugural race. It won after a dramatic last-second pass on Chi Dog and was edged out by just half a bun. This year, it will defend its title as top dog, defend its position in the wiener's circle, and claim its second Borg-Wiener trophy. The second Wienie 500 will be held on Carb Day 2026 on May 22. Tickets are now on sale, and having watched a replay of the first race, 60 mph has never looked so exciting. Suddenly, we're in the mood for some wienies as well. Bentley’s New Continental GT S Is Quicker, Sharper, and Built for Drivers
If the base Continental GT is somehow too dull for you and the Conti GT Azure too focused on luxury, perhaps the sweet spot in the Bentley coupe range is this, the new Continental GT S (and drop-top Continental GT Convertible S). The GT S is more powerful than its W12-powered predecessor, delivering 671 horsepower and 686 lb-ft of torque from its High Performance Hybrid powertrain, which is an electrified 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with a flat-plane crank. Those numbers represent increases of 128 hp and 118 lb-ft, respectively, though they're identical to the figures claimed by the non-S Continental GT and Continental GTC and lower than those offered by the GT Speed. So what makes the S badge special? For a start, it represents a quicker car than the regular Conti, with a more focused driving experience. Continental GT S Is a Sporty Grand Tourer Bentley View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article While the regular Conti GT gets from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and tops out at 168 mph, the GT S can do the sprint in 3.3 seconds and only runs out of puff at 190 mph. As it does so, a sports exhaust provides a more aggressive tone, and if that irritates the neighbors, the hybrid system can run on electric power alone for up to 50 miles. Another highlight for the S is the addition of the Bentley Performance Active Chassis system, borrowed from the more elite GT Speed and GT Mulliner variants. This means an active all-wheel-drive system that gives the driver some slip on the rear axle in Dynamic mode, and if the electronic stability control system is completely deactivated, "the cornering stance can be balanced on-throttle by the driver." That's Bentley's typically restrained and very British way of saying you can slide the new GT S, though perhaps not as easily as the RWD GT Supersports. Related: Bentley Supersports Goes Full Send With Travis Pastrana in Its Wildest Film Yet The chassis setup also includes twin-valve dampers, torque vectoring front to rear and across the axles, Bentley's 48-volt Dynamic Ride active anti-roll system and, for the first time on the GT S, an electronic limited-slip differential and all-wheel steering. Blackline Specification Gives the Conti GT S a More Sinister Look Bentley View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article The Continental GT S stands apart from the regular Conti GT with several gloss black accents as part of the Blackline Specification, starting with the front lower spoiler and extending to the matrix grilles, wings badges, and BENTLEY wordmark. The area around the lower side intakes is also framed by glossy black paint, as is the glasshouse, and the chrome strips on the lower section of the side bodywork, which extend into the rear bumper, are now gloss black, too. Similarly, the mirror caps, rear diffuser, and sill extensions are finished in Beluga black, and the LED matrix headlights are tinted, as on the GT Speed. To match, the taillights get the same sort of treatment, as do the exhaust tips. 22-inch ten-spoke alloy wheels come in silver as standard, but two-tone wheels with black paint and machined faces are available, as are full gloss black wheels. A Unique Interior for the Conti GT SInside, the Continental GT S and Continental GTC S get upholstery with a two-color split, unique to the S-badged grand tourers. Dinamica faux suede adds a sportier feel to the steering wheel, gear lever, seats, and door card inserts, while trims are finished in Piano black. Of course, one can always customize a Bentley, and carbon fiber is one of the many options available, as is dark-tinted chrome for all the interior metal brightwork. If a customer wants a more luxurious feel, full leather upholstery is also available. Frustratingly, Bentley hasn't provided imagery of the cabin, but we catch a glimpse of it in the above video. Pricing has not been revealed either, but it's best to budget around $350,000 before even thinking about options. Almost 570,000 Hyundai Palisades Recalled Over Third-Row Airbag Failure
If you're the owner of a Hyundai Palisade from the 2020-2025 model years, you may want to avoid putting passengers in the rearmost seats until a new recall has been addressed. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 568,576 SUVs have a problem with their third-row side curtain airbags, which may deploy improperly, thus failing to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard #226, Ejection Mitigation. This problem increases the risk of injury to third-row occupants during certain crashes, including those that result in a rollover. Considering that this seating area is where the smallest, most fragile humans (small children) are usually sat, it's a particularly urgent problem. Hyundai Is Still Investigating After the Feds Flagged the Issue Hyundai According to the NHTSA recall report, the issue first came to Hyundai's attention in April last year, after the NHTSA conducted a routine FMVSS #226 compliance test on a 2025 Palisade. The Feds determined that "the measured displacement of the ejected hedform in the third-row seating area exceeded the 100 mm performance limit specified in the standard." Hyundai opened an investigation alongside the NHTSA's Office of Vehicle Safety Compliance, conducting several tests between July and November 2025. In December, Hyundai began its own compliance tests to replicate these results. The automaker evaluated various trim levels, coming to similar conclusions that ultimately led to this month's recall. Unfortunately for concerned owners, a remedy is still in development, but at least none of the documentation published by the NHTSA points to any crashes or injuries related to the incident. Hopefully, Hyundai's fix will come before any serious incidents. No Cost to Owners Despite Warranty Expiration Hyundai As a noncompliance recall, Hyundai is obliged to resolve the issue at no cost to owners, and because six model years are affected and this generation of Palisade is no longer in production, that applies to cars whose warranties have expired. The bad news is that dealers and owners are only expected to be notified of a fix toward the end of March, starting on the 23rd. In the meantime, owners can check their VINs on nhtsa.gov. Owners of the all-new 2026 Palisade are not affected, but it's been a rough few weeks for the automaker, which recently issued a recall for some 84,000 Genesis vehicles with displays that could go blank with the use of the HD Radio system. This came after the Tucson was recalled for a fire risk at the end of December. View the full article

Installing a Total Cost Involved Pro Touring Front IFS on to a 1966 Chevrolet Nova – Simple Tools And A Simple Process
Installing a front subframe on a car is not usually considered a super straight forward and simple project, and there are times when it can be more difficult than others. If you have a running and driving project, and decide to do a front subframe swap, it is going to require more work to remove the engine and all the underhood components. If you are starting from the ground up however, doing a subframe swap can be really simple, with the right parts. In the case of this TCI front subframe for early Chevrolet Novas, it bolts in with simple hand tools if all the stock stuff has been removed. And in the videos below, with our friend Todd Ryden from InGear Garage, Todd is going to show you just how straight forward this install can be. It’s not a detailed step by step install, showing every single minute step, but it will show you just how straight forward this kit is and that you could absolutely install one on a Saturday if you have all the parts and pieces ready to go. Mercedes-Benz Pushes Hydrogen Semi Truck Toward Production With 100-Unit Run
Mercedes-Benz is taking a major step toward putting hydrogen long-haul trucking on real routes, not just test tracks. Daimler Truck says it will build a small series of 100 Mercedes-Benz NextGenH2 semi-trailer tractors at its Wörth plant, with customer deployments starting at the end of 2026, positioning the program as a bridge between prototype development and full series production planned for the early 2030s. View the 5 images of this gallery on the original article Small-Series Production, Not A Full LaunchThis is not a mass-market rollout yet, but it is a meaningful shift from one-off prototypes to a controlled production run that will be operated by customers. Daimler Truck is effectively using these 100 trucks to validate durability, service routines, and hydrogen fueling logistics at scale, while also proving that the packaging can work in daily freight operations. The company says the NextGenH2 is designed for heavy long-haul use, and it is targeting “well over” 1,000 kilometers of range on a single fill under full load, which is the kind of number needed to compete with diesel-style duty cycles. View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Liquid Hydrogen, Fast Refueling, And A Hybridized PowertrainDaimler Truck is doubling down on liquid hydrogen, arguing that LH2’s higher energy density makes it more suitable for long distance freight than compressed gas. The NextGenH2 carries up to 85 kilograms of liquid hydrogen in two tanks, and Daimler Truck says refueling can take roughly 10 to 15 minutes using the sLH2 standard it developed with Linde, an important claim because time at the pump is one of the biggest operational constraints in trucking. Power comes from a twin fuel cell setup based on the cellcentric BZA150, delivering 300 kilowatts total, paired with a 101 kilowatt-hour LFP buffer battery used for energy management and recuperation. Drive hardware is closely related to Mercedes’ battery-electric heavy truck, using the same in-house e-axle with a four-speed transmission, and Daimler Truck says output reaches up to 370 kilowatts in its highest setting. A key change versus earlier GenH2 prototypes is a more compact “Tech Tower” behind the cab, intended to improve trailer compatibility and fit within European length rules through a shorter wheelbase. Daimler Truck also highlights a new boil-off management system intended to meet regulatory requirements for hydrogen handling, including when parking in enclosed spaces, plus sensor systems designed to support overnight stays in the cab even in the unlikely event of a leak. The truck also brings the latest driver assistance suite, including advanced braking and side-guard systems, alongside updated cybersecurity architecture. The brand is still refining lighting and safety tech in parallel, as seen in how the design conversation continues around headlamps . It is also still investing in traditional performance craftsmanship, while working to rebuild momentum in battery EVs. View the full article

Maserati Slashes EV Prices by Up to $85,000 for 2026
Folgore Has Always Meant a Bigger Price TagMaserati hasn’t exactly tiptoed into electrification. The Folgore EVs look and feel like their gas siblings, but the price tags have always been in a different league. From day one, Folgore models have cost tens of thousands more than the regular versions. That gap is about to shrink for 2026. A dealer bulletin spotted by CarsDirect shows Maserati slashing prices across its EV lineup. The biggest drops hit the GranTurismo Folgore and GranCabrio Folgore, with up to $85,000 off – enough to buy a second Maserati if you wanted. Ronan Glon How the Discounts Change the LineupThese discounts substantially change Maserati’s lineup. Suddenly, the EVs are going head-to-head with the brand’s most affordable gas models. Here’s how the numbers stack up after the cuts. Model Base Gas Trim (MSRPs) Folgore MSRPs Reported Discounts Discounted Prices Grecale $77,900 $119,900 $40,000 $79,900 GranTurismo $145,000 $197,800 $85,000 $112,800 GranCabrio $153,000 $206,700 $85,000 $121,700 With the new pricing, the Grecale Folgore is nearly level with the entry-level gas Grecale. The GranTurismo and GranCabrio Folgore actually undercut their gas counterparts, even though they pack more power and a full electric setup. It’s a total reversal of how Maserati usually prices its cars. Of note, these prices don’t include destination or handling, and you won’t see the discounts listed on Maserati’s website yet. Availability depends on the dealer, and the deals are coming from internal programs, not public rebates. Maserati Maserati Repositioning Its EVsIt’s unclear if these discounts come with any changes to standard features. What’s certain is that the EVs still stand out under the skin. The Grecale Folgore is EPA-rated for 245 miles of range, while the GranTurismo and GranCabrio Folgore are closer to 230. Performance is still a highlight for EVs, with instant torque and more power than the base gas models they’re now priced against. All in, these discounts show Maserati is rethinking how it positions its EVs. Whether this is a permanent shift or just a short-term move isn’t clear yet, but for the first time, Folgore models are actually value picks within Maserati’s own range. View the full article

Speedmaster Signs Multi-Year Partnership With John Force Racing as Co-Primary Sponsor of Josh Hart’s Top Fuel Dragster
John Force Racing and Speedmaster have reached agreement on a multi-year partnership for the global leader in high-performance automotive parts and motorsports culture to serve as the co-primary sponsor, with Burnyzz Speed Shop, of the Top Fuel Dragster team driven by Josh Hart in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series. Hart and the Burnyzz Speed Shop/Speedmaster Top Fuel Dragster team will make their debut at the NHRA’s 75th anniversary season-opening AMALIE MOTOR OIL NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville (Fla.) Raceway on March 5-8. The partnership also includes associate sponsorship of all three of the 24-time championship organization’s Funny Car teams with drivers Jack Beckman, Alexis DeJoria and Jordan Vandergriff. “Speedmaster has always admired what John Force Racing represents, an unmatched legacy built on performance, resilience, and winning at the highest level,” said Speedmaster CEO Jason Kencevski. “Becoming part of that legacy through a multi-year partnership is a proud moment for us. Having Josh Hart behind the wheel representing Speedmaster and Burnyzz is incredibly exciting. Josh is a driven, successful CEO, and there’s a strong alignment between his mindset and our vision. This partnership brings together legacy and the next generation, and we believe it helps set a powerful example for young entrepreneurs and leaders across the automotive industry. “We hope this partnership becomes a North Star for younger leaders in our industry who want to build something meaningful, competitive, and lasting. It reflects why Speedmaster is one of the only aftermarket manufacturers holding a primary sponsorship role in the NHRA Top Fuel ranks.” Founded in 1979 as Pete’s Performance, a small speed workshop in a modest garage where engines were built for friends and local racers, Speedmaster has grown to more than 500 dedicated employees on three continents who design, engineer and manufacture 25,000 parts and, in doing so, have created a lifestyle as much as a brand. “I’ve chased sponsors for decades, and had people chase sponsors for me almost as long, but this is the first time I’ve had a driver put a sponsorship program together,” said 16-time NHRA Funny Car World Champion and team owner John Force of Hart’s efforts. “Josh had the relationship with Jason and Speedmaster and he made the deal so he deserves the credit. I’m just thrilled to be a part of it and have this partnership across all our race cars.” This story was originally published on January 29, 2026. GM’s EV Losses Weren’t From Making Cars—They Were From Canceling Them
General Motors insists it still believes in an electric future, but its latest letter to shareholders tells a different story. After publishing its full-year results, the automaker confirmed it will significantly cut EV production in 2026, despite electric vehicles bringing nearly 100,000 new customers to the brand last year. They blame their losses on an abundant amount of "EV-related charges", but most of them were self-inflicted. The High “Cost” of EVs That GM Created Itself GMC GM has repeatedly pointed to the high cost of EVs, but much of that expense has little to do with actually building electric vehicles. In 2025, the company recorded an $8.5 billion loss, driven largely by "EV-related charges". These charges were a compilation of canceled programs, supplier settlements, and discontinued models. In simple terms, EVs are costly for GM because it's actually costing money stop making them. Had production continued as planned, many of those costs would not have existed in the first place. This cost-cutting pattern isn't unique to GM. Automakers across the industry are cutting low-volume EVs as incentives fade and short-term profits come under pressure. In the US, EV sales dipped for the first time in years, giving manufacturers political and financial cover to slow down. Globally, however, demand continues to grow, and Chinese-built EVs are reshaping markets abroad. As a matter of fact, BYD just overtook Tesla as the world’s top EV seller. Belief, But Only on Paper Chevrolet In the shareholder letter, GM has acknowledged that EV buyers "do not often go back to gas". And research backs up that statement, with just 7% of US car buyers saying they'd want an EV as their next car. At the same time, profits from gas-powered trucks and SUVs are surging, funding higher dividends and share buybacks. So, when looking at the bigger picture, the EV pullback strategy looks less like a collapse in interest and more like a preference for safer profit margins. That tension explains why some automakers are pivoting toward middle-ground solutions. Extended-range electric vehicles, which pair large batteries with small gas engines acting as generators, are increasingly seen as a bridge between EVs and traditional vehicles. Ford’s $30,000 F-150 Lightning replacement is the perfect example of how the industry is adapting rather than abandoning electrification outright. The Reality of EV Demand For The Future Cadillac Future EV demand can't be judged solely on 2025 sales – waters were muddied with expiring incentives and aggressive pricing strategies. However, one thing remains evident: Not a lot of people want to continue to pursue an all-electric route, especially when there are no government incentives to do so, at least for now. With that in mind, GM's decision to axe EV production makes sense. What is harder to justify is framing EVs as inherently too expensive, when billions of those costs were created by GM’s own decision to cancel them. View the full article

Volvo Sued Over Rearview Camera Defect Affecting Over 400,000 Cars
Volvo’s Camera Issue Back in the SpotlightVolvo is now facing a class-action lawsuit in the US over a rearview camera issue that has already triggered a federal safety recall. Back in 2025, a software bug in Volvo’s infotainment system could make the rear camera freeze, crash, or not show up at all when you shift into reverse. The recall was reissued earlier this month, saying that the problem wasn’t entirely fixed. Beyond the technical glitch, a new lawsuit has been filed targeting how Volvo handled the situation. The plaintiffs say Volvo admitted the defect and worked with regulators on a recall, but owners were still left hanging – no real fix, and no clear next steps. Volvo What the Lawsuit Claims Went WrongFiled at the US District Court for the Western District of New York, the lawsuit covers over 400,000 Volvos sold from 2021 to 2025 (yes, even the brand-spaking-new Volvo EX90), touching nearly the entire lineup – sedans, wagons, SUVs, and even electric models. Since the rearview camera is a federally required safety feature, the case isn’t just about inconvenience. The camera failures stem from software bugs in Volvo’s Android-based operating system. When the system acts up, the rear camera image might not appear right away when you start backing up – leaving drivers without a feature they rely on every day. Volvo's other safety systems – like rear automatic braking and cross-traffic alerts – still work beyond the glitch in the camera display. But the lawsuit argues the rearview camera is a key part of daily driving safety. The plaintiffs also say Volvo dropped the ball on software development and testing, and that this problem should have been caught much sooner. More critically, the suit asserts that Volvo had prior knowledge of the defect and failed to adequately disclose it to buyers. The complaint alleges that affected vehicles were still sold during and after the recall process without repairs or sufficient warnings to prospective customers. Owners Still Waiting for a ResolutionVolvo says a more complete software fix is coming, with an update expected by the end of the first quarter of 2026. But the lawsuit points out that, so far, nothing has changed – even though the problem has been on the radar for months. The plaintiffs say this delay leaves owners driving around with a known safety issue and no clear idea when it’ll be fixed. They also claim Volvo hasn’t offered repairs, refunds, or any real support while these cars are still on the road. Volvo View the full article

Trump Tried to Lure Mercedes Out of Germany—CEO Flatly Said No
Trump Administration Sought Mercedes HQ MoveMercedes-Benz Group AG CEO Ola Källenius confirmed that the Trump administration attempted to persuade the automaker to move its global headquarters from Germany to the United States. In an interview with German outlet The Pioneer, Källenius said the proposal came about a year ago through US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. The offer included tax relief and other incentives intended to relocate the company’s executive base out of Stuttgart. Källenius rejected the idea. He emphasized that while Mercedes operates globally, its identity remains tied to southern Germany. “The star has been a global company for more than 100 years, but we are rooted in Swabia,” he said. He added that those roots should not be removed. The comments offer rare insight into how far the Trump administration went in trying to redirect European industrial power toward the US. Florian Wiegand/Getty Images Production Shifts Without Leaving StuttgartAlthough Mercedes declined to move its headquarters, it has continued expanding its US manufacturing footprint. The company later announced plans to shift production of a sport utility vehicle from Germany to its existing plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. That factory already plays a major role in Mercedes’ North American operations and produces several high-volume SUV models. Mercedes has also expanded research and development activity in the US, including facilities in Georgia. These moves reflect a broader industry trend. Several automakers have pledged to increase US investment amid political pressure and trade uncertainty. Volkswagen, for example, has explored multibillion-dollar spending commitments tied to negotiations with the Trump administration. In Mercedes’ case, the strategy has been to localize production where it makes sense while keeping corporate leadership and brand identity anchored in Germany. Mercedes-Benz Tariffs, Costs, and Germany’s Auto CoreTrade policy remains a key factor in these decisions. Trump’s auto tariff policies have already imposed high costs on Mercedes. The company has said tariffs have cost it roughly $420 million, with the risk of higher losses if trade tensions escalate. Those financial pressures have pushed automakers to reconsider supply chains and production locations without necessarily committing to deeper structural moves such as relocating headquarters. For Germany, the stakes are high. Mercedes is one of the largest employers in the Stuttgart region, where factories produce S-Class sedans and AMG performance engines. Alongside Porsche, Bosch, and Daimler Truck, Mercedes forms the backbone of Germany’s advanced manufacturing sector. Källenius has criticized Germany’s bureaucracy and labor costs, and has faced pushback from unions over comments on sick-leave rates. Still, his refusal to move the headquarters signals a clear line in the sand. Mercedes may build more vehicles in the US, but its strategic center remains in the country where the automobile was invented. Mercedes-Benz View the full article

Nissan Dealer Sued Over Used Car With Conflicting Titles and Mileage
Judge Allows Lawsuit Against Nissan Dealership to ProceedA federal judge has ruled that a customer may sue a Nissan dealership over the sale of a used vehicle with conflicting titles and unclear mileage. The case involves a 2019 Nissan Altima sold by Serra Nissan in Birmingham, Alabama, and was first reported by Automotive News. U.S. District Judge Annemarie Axon of the Northern District of Alabama said buyer Zachary Hopkins can pursue claims including fraud, misrepresentation, violations of the federal Odometer Act, breach of warranty, and related allegations. Hopkins purchased the Altima in November 2021 for $25,180. The vehicle was sold as-is. At the time of sale, the odometer read 55,424 miles. That figure also appeared on the odometer disclosure form and title application, according to the ruling. Drew Phillips Conflicting Titles and Disclosure at IssueAxon found that Hopkins plausibly alleged Serra Nissan failed to disclose material vehicle history information. The dealership had a Carfax report showing that both Alabama and Indiana issued titles for the Altima at about the same time. The Indiana title was branded “not actual mileage,” indicating the true mileage could not be verified. The judge also cited a 30-minute video recorded during the transaction. According to the ruling, the salesperson allegedly provided Hopkins with only the first page of the Carfax report to sign. That page did not disclose the dual titles or mileage issue. Problems surfaced months later. In July 2022, Hopkins attempted to trade in the Altima at another Serra dealership but was turned down because of the branded title. Serra Nissan later also declined to take the vehicle in trade. Axon dismissed a claim for negligent hiring, training, and supervision, finding no evidence that Serra Nissan employees were incompetent or that the dealership knew of any such issues. The remaining claims will move forward. A jury trial is scheduled to begin on April 20, according to Hopkins’s attorney. Serra Nissan’s lawyer declined to comment. Conflicting Titles and Disclosure at IssueThe ruling underscores a broader issue in the used-car market. Industry estimates suggest roughly 2.45 million used vehicles on U.S. roads may have inaccurate or manipulated mileage. In many cases, the problem stems from traditional odometer rollbacks. In others, it stems from inconsistent records as vehicles move across state lines, creating gaps between titles, vehicle history reports, and disclosures. Odometer disputes are also evolving as vehicles become more software-driven. Even Tesla doesn't come out unscathed. In at least one high-profile case, owners alleged that mileage accumulation did not reflect real-world driving, potentially accelerating warranty expiration. Together, these cases show that odometer accuracy is no longer just a mechanical issue. Drew Phillips View the full article
