  1. Custom motorcycle culture often revolves around revisiting the past. Builders routinely transform modern machines into tributes to racing legends, classic café racers, or vintage street bikes. Mean Green Customs chose a different path with its latest Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 project. Instead of looking backward, the Mumbai-based workshop created a motorcycle that embraces a futuristic visual language, resulting in a striking custom known as “Neon Discipline”. The build begins with Royal Enfield’s highly regarded Continental GT 650, a motorcycle […] The post Mean Green Customs’ Neon Discipline: A Futuristic Take on the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 appeared first on Return of the Cafe Racers. 6. The sights, sounds, and energy of NHRA drag racing were on full display for two Maryland lawmakers who joined representatives from Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) and Performance Racing Industry (PRI) for a behind-the-scenes visit to the inaugural NHRA Potomac Nationals at Maryland International Raceway. Maryland State Delegates Matthew Morgan and Kevin Hornberger spent two days getting a firsthand look at what make drag racing such a unique part of the motorsports landscape. Alongside representatives of SEMA and PRI, the lawmakers toured the Maryland International Raceway facility, met racers and teams, and learned about the ins and outs of the sport of drag racing. The visit was organized as part of SEMA and PRI’s ongoing effort to help elected officials better understand the racing community and the profound impact motorsports has on local economies and families across the country. NHRA Chief Development Officer Brad Gerber and Chief Legal Officer Alen Cisija accompanied the lawmakers on their tour, providing insight on what it takes to host national events as part of the 2026 NHRA season, which also coincides with the sanctioning body’s 75th year in business. During the tour, Funny Car standout Austin Prock stopped to speak and spend time with the group. When elimination rounds arrived, Delegate Hornberger found himself cheering on Prock as he advanced to the final round and ultimately won the event with a 3.956 over Jack Beckman’s 3.971. Top Fuel racer Maddi Gordon and team owner Ron Capps also spent time with the lawmakers. They shared stories about Capps’ extensive history with the sport and showed them how Gordon is just one of many examples of what the future will look like. Gordon, just 22 years old, spoke about growing up at the racetrack and how the sport has instilled strong family values while teaching lessons that continue to guide her both in and out of the driver’s seat. She emphasized to the lawmakers how both racers and fans view racing as a career and a lifestyle, not just a hobby. “Gordon’s grit, grace and gratitude showed lawmakers that the next generation of racing is worth protecting,” PRI Grassroots Manager Coby Lobaugh said. While Delegate Morgan has a racing background of his own, both lawmakers were able to see firsthand the unique atmosphere that surrounds NHRA events. Time was spent walking through the pits, speaking with vendors, race teams, and even spectators. Each of those conversations provided a closer look at the people and businesses that rely on racing events and the role racetracks play in their local communities. For PRI, creating those connections is a key part of protecting the future of motorsports. The motorsports industry contributes nearly $500 million to the state of Maryland, with over $17 million supporting local families and small businesses in Delegate Hornberger and Morgan’s districts. “Lawmaker engagement at motorsports events can only strengthen the understanding of the district they represent,” Lobaugh said. “It allows them to meet the people where they are and hear firsthand how racing supports their livelihoods.” For the representatives at PRI and SEMA, that’s exactly the outcome they hope for when bringing elected officials to major racing events. By experiencing the sport of drag racing up closeand on a personal level, lawmakers gain a clearer understanding of the fans, business, racers, and families that make the sport so special. “PRI’s goal is to protect the future of motorsports at every level by hosting lawmakers with the hope that continued awareness and education will bridge the gap between the government and the grandstands.” The post PRI, SEMA Host Maryland Lawmakers for Behind-the-Scenes Visit at NHRA Potomac Nationals first appeared on Drag Illustrated. 7. When 2025 Drag Illustrated 30 Under 30 honoree Austin Kardules’ name was drawn in the Lincoln Electric drawing during last year’s DI 30 Under 30 press conference at the PRI Show, Kardules couldn’t believe his luck. He’d grown up around talented fabricators and had recently started to explore learning how to weld. The Lincoln Electric prize package – which included a Lincoln Power MIG 220 welder, a Lincoln Welding Gear Ready-Pak, and a five-day course at Lincoln’s Welding School near Cleveland, Ohio, was exactly what Kardules needed to kick-start his education. Lincoln Electric has supported the DI 30 Under 30 program for the last several years as both a program sponsor and through the giveaway. Each December, one of the 30 Under 30 honorees is picked as the winner through a random drawing on-stage at the 30 Under 30 press conference. “I believe being a partner of the 30 Under 30 program is a great way to say thank you to all the people selected,” said Lon Damon, Sports Marketing, NHRA/IndyCar, Lincoln Electric. “They’re the future of drag racing and Lincoln Electric wants to be part of that journey.” Kardules grew up in drag racing. His father, John, had a chassis shop in the ‘80s and continued working on and building cars in their home garage through the 2000s. John got his two boys, Austin and older brother Camron, involved as well through Jr. Dragsters. That evolved into big cars, but it wasn’t necessarily Austin’s on-track experience that earned him a spot on the 30 Under 30 list. He also spent time teaching beginner drivers at Doug Foley’s Drag Racing School, an opportunity that led to selling sponsorships for Foley’s Top Fuel team. Kardules also co-promotes a pair of races at his home track outside Columbus, Ohio. Earlier this spring, Kardules made the drive up I-71 to the Lincoln Electric Welding Technology & Training Center in Euclid, Ohio. The 130,000-square-foot facility features 150 welding and cutting booths, six robotic welding booths, a virtual reality training lab, a 100-seat auditorium, and extensive seminar and welding classroom space. The Welding School website currently lists 25 different courses. Kardules enrolled in the Motorsports Basic Materials program, which promises to “enhance your knowledge of current thinking in arc welding safety, processes, instruction, concepts, equipment, and consumables, as well as your welding skills.” The course begins in the classroom, but 70% of the course features hands-on experience in the welding booths. “I was really excited about this class,” Kardules said. “Sometimes when you have high expectations, it’s hard to meet that, but walking into this facility was incredible. I knew it was in a training facility. I did not expect it to be this massive. The attention to detail outside and inside the facility is incredible. From the moment you walk in, to even in the facility where the welding happens, the cleanliness, the organization, everything is so top tier. You know when you’re coming in here, you’re learning from the best with the best products. It doesn’t get any better than this.” Over the course of the five-day program, Kardules and his classmates learned about a wide range of equipment, materials, and techniques that typically come into play in the motorsports industry. “Each day we started in the classroom covering some of the basics, safety, prep work, and setting up the welder based on the materials we would be welding that day,” Kardules said. “Then we went out to do the welding. We learned the differences in the filler metals and their uses and identifying the type of metal, as some can be similar to each other yet require different filler metals and settings when welding. We welded mild steel on day 1, then aluminum the next day, then eventually stainless steel and chromoly. As the week went on, we started learning to weld tubing of various types as well.” Kardules admits he went into the experience with a lot to learn, but any intimidation quickly went away thanks to the knowledgeable and patient instructors. “The instructor, Mike [Khalil], knew that I was pretty green in welding and took some extra time to make sure I felt comfortable and understood what I was doing once we got started,” Kardules said. “Being a motorsports materials class, there’s all different types of skill levels, with me being green, and there was even another in this class that teaches high school students how to weld. Mike made sure to spend time with each person, no matter their skill level, to make sure that their time is being used efficiently. He made it very easy and accessible for me to jump right in and kind of feel like I knew what I was doing right from the start.” Kardules left the school feeling inspired to continue honing his skills as a welder. He also shared his gratitude for the opportunity. “I learned so much and I feel a lot more confident when it comes to welding,” Kardules said. “I’ve got all the gear I need too. I’m incredibly grateful to Lon Damon, the instructors, and everyone at Lincoln Electric. As fortunate as I’ve been to experience some awesome, unique things, this was one of the coolest experiences I’ve had. I look forward to seeing where this takes me.” Lincoln Electric currently has availability for its Motorsports Basic Materials classes that start on August 10 and October 19. 8. The top nostalgia gasser drag racing that is the Southeast Gassers Association will rumble at Brainerd Motorsports Park for The Rumble in Ringgold presented by Harbin’s Mechanical Services. This race was postponed from its original date due to weather and will now take place June 12-13. Even with the postponement, SEGA at Brainerd Motorsports Park has proven time and time again that the rumbling action on the track is worth the wait. A rumble that has remained reminiscent in the minds of SEGA fans and followers is a qualifying pass in 2016 featuring Donovan Stott and Greg Porter lined up against each other. Greg launched cleanly in his faded dark green 1955 Chevy, the Night Stalker, tracking straight and true. But the real action came from Donovan Stott. His white Anglia rumbled off the starting line, drifted over the centerline, and made a sharp right turn from the left lane, lightly tapping the retaining wall before hopping and landing in the right lane. Spectators were stunned that the car rolled away nearly unscathed, erupting into cheers for the impressive wheel‑job Donovan had just pulled off – a perfect example of why gassers remain some of the most thrilling, action-packed machines in drag racing. Another rumble occurred in 2025 that shook up Jerry Dean’s bid for a perfect SEGA Super Stock season. The 2024 and 2025 Super Stock Champion nearly had a perfect season in 2025 except for his visit to Brainerd Motorsport Park. Though he appeared in the final round, it was not a round that he won, as we have become accustomed to seeing from Dominator Dean. Instead, it was long-time SEGA competitor Rob Walden earning the victory and SEGA trophy. It was his first win in a new Super Stock combination that he had stepped in for the season out of his 1933 Willys A/Gasser. From that loss on, Jerry Dean has not lost a single elimination round, racking up seven straight race wins. The Rumble in Ringgold for 2026 will begin the tussle on Friday at 5 p.m. eastern with a SEGA-only test and tune ($20 admission). Saturday has qualifying scheduled for 1 p.m. eastern with championship eliminations to follow ($25 admission or $35 weekend pass). Southeast Gassers Association competition will go through heads-up eliminations to the completion of the event, with event champions determined by a first-to-the-finish-line authentic 1960s racing experience. See H/Gas and A/FX in exhibition along with the championship categories of Super Stock, C/Gas, B/Gas, and A/Gas rumbling down the track situated in north Georgia, just south of Chattanooga, Tennessee. For more information, you can visit www.southeastgassers.com or www.brainerdmotorsports.com, and check out the social media outlets for both the Southeast Gassers Association and Brainerd Motorsports Park on major platforms such as Facebook. 10. Friday night in Thunder Valley has always been a huge highlight of the Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals. But there will be even more excitement – and a lot more on the line – when nitro at night comes alive in a major way this Friday at Bristol Dragway. The second round of qualifying – which starts at 7:30 p.m. in Pro Stock Motorcycle and Pro Stock and continues at 8:30 p.m. in Funny Car and Top Fuel – will also see the final rounds in Top Fuel and Funny Car of last weekend’s NHRA New England Nationals presented by bproauto completed under the lights on Friday. Rain halted those two final rounds on Sunday and postponed them to Friday in Bristol, which will lead to an electric atmosphere at Thunder Valley. In Top Fuel, points leader Shawn Langdon – winner of three straight races and four of the past six – will take on surging Leah Pruett in the finals. Funny Car will see a John Force Racing showdown, with teammates Jordan Vandergriff and Jack Beckman squaring off in the finals round. Langdon has been virtually unstoppable as of late, making a record run of 345.00-mph in the process and taking a commanding points lead in the process, while Pruett, who is third in points after returning to the sport this season for Tony Stewart Racing, is closing in on what she hopes is her first victory of the 2026 campaign. “It’s going to be a week of anticipation trying to wrap up the final round for Epping,” Pruett said. “We did not have lane choice (on Sunday) except for first round and we don’t have lane choice going into the final at Bristol. We get to refresh our brains, so obviously we’re pumped.” Added Langdon: “We’ll head to Bristol, start going through some notes and get prepared there. It’ll be a good weekend.” Vandergriff and Beckman are both running well at an opportune time. Vandergriff won his first career race a month ago and was the No. 1 qualifier last weekend, bringing plenty of momentum into Bristol. Beckman, meanwhile, appears to be closing in on his first victory of the season and now has an opportunity for two in a span of three days. “Our car has been down the track 14 of the last 15 runs,” Beckman said. “We’re going to have qualifying, the Mission Foods #2Fast2Tasty Challenge, the final round against Vandergriff for this race, and the Bristol race. That’s four reasons to push hard right off the bat.” Added Vandergriff: “We have an all-JFR final and this is definitely what John (Force) would have wanted.” It’s a remarkable start to what should be an incredible weekend celebrating 25 years of NHRA racing at Bristol Dragway and NHRA’s 75th anniversary season. Following a can’t-miss Friday, final qualifying, the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge and a special autograph session takes place on Saturday, followed by eliminations on Sunday. Plus, the race will feature a host of 75th anniversary items, including: An appearance from NHRA fan-favorite Top Fuel driver Clay Millican as well as NHRA legend Darrell Gwynn. Millican’s memorable 2017 Bristol win will also be celebrated as the race’s historic moment. On Sunday, a free, limited-edition NHRA pennant will be given to the first 4,000 fans in attendance. In 2025, Steve Torrence (Top Fuel), Ron Capps (Funny Car), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Richard Gadson (Pro Stock Motorcycle) all won in Bristol. This season’s Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals will be broadcast on FS1, including eliminations starting at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 14. Six-time world champ Anderson made history last season when he secured his 1,000th round win en route to the win over Dallas Glenn, who is the points leader and reigning champ. Erica Enders, Matt Hartford and Greg Stanfield are after wins as well. Gadson, the reigning world champ and points leader, hopes to repeat, but will be challenged by Maryland winner Angie Smith, Jianna Evaristo and Steve Johnson. The event will also feature the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, the JBS Equipment NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by Elite Motorsports and Flexjet NHRA Factory Stock Showdown. After final qualifying on Saturday, fans can attend a special autograph session at the Bristol Dragway Welcome Tent in the midway. Bristol race fans can enjoy the special pre-race ceremonies that introduce each driver and includes the fan favorite SealMaster Track Walk, and congratulate the winners at the winner’s circle celebration on Sunday. As always, fans get a pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet. They can visit NHRA’s Manufacturers Midway, where sponsors and vendors create an exciting atmosphere. NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series qualifying will feature two rounds at 5 and 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday, June 12, and the final two rounds of qualifying on Saturday, June 13 at 12:30 and 3 p.m. Eliminations will begin at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 14. Television coverage includes qualifying action at 8 p.m. ET on Friday and 2 p.m. on Sunday on FS1, leading into eliminations at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday. 11. To commemorate the one-year anniversary of 6-time Pro Stock world champion Greg Anderson’s historic 1,000th round win at the 2025 Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals, the 1000 Round Win Club is sponsoring Drag Race Bracket Bonanza (DRBB) for the Thunder Valley Nationals this weekend. The free-to-play bracket game that has become a weekly destination for drag racing fans across the country. Anderson joined John Force as the second member of the 1000 Round Win Club, which is arguably the most exclusive achievement club in motorsports, last year in Bristol when he defeated David Cuadra in the semifinals. “This is the combination of two of my passion projects, Drag Race Bracket Bonanza and the 1000 Round Win Club,” said DRBB creator and Werner Communications president Elon Werner. “This is the perfect time to celebrate Greg’s amazing accomplishment and tie in one of the most fun fan engagement games in drag racing. The world of motorsports celebrates this achievement with you and your team, as it is a testament to your enduring excellence, perseverance and legendary career.” Force, who ultimately won 1,460 rounds, was the first driver to achieve this milestone when he won his 1,000th round of NHRA professional racing on May 4, 2008, during the 12th annual O’Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals presented by Castrol at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois. Anderson joined Force when he turned on his 1,000th round win light of NHRA professional racing on June 8, 2025, and to date has won 1,040 rounds. For the Thunder Valley Nationals, players can complete their brackets once qualifying concludes at Bristol Dragway on Saturday, June 13. 13. Overland Expo Mtn West will have a whole new look later this summer. The Ranch in Loveland, Colorado has undergone an extensive transformation over the past year, and we can’t wait to welcome the Overland Expo community back to experience it firsthand. Today, we’re offering a special preview of the updates, along with a few first looks at what’s taking shape before the gates open in August. The renderings provide an exciting glimpse, but nothing compares to seeing (and exploring) in person. The renovations have been designed with both exhibitors and attendees in mind, creating a more seamless, comfortable, and engaging event experience from the moment you arrive. Expansive new green spaces, improved walkability, and thoughtfully designed gathering areas will make it easier than ever to connect with fellow travelers, attend educational sessions, or take a break to recharge before the next stop on your schedule. One of the biggest changes is the complete regrading and leveling of the central event area, creating a more functional and versatile footprint for exhibitor displays, camping, demonstrations, and community spaces. The result is a venue that feels more open, more accessible, and better equipped to host the Overland Expo experience that attendees know and love. While The Ranch has always been a fantastic home for Mountain West, these updates elevate the entire property to a new level. Whether you’re joining us to shop the latest gear, learn new skills, connect with the overland community, or camp on-site for the weekend, the enhanced layout will make every part of your experience even better. You can read more about The Ranch Master Plan and renovation details here. We can’t wait to experience this reimagined venue with all of you. 19. I talked to Mike the other day and he said that they are seriously working on the Cadillac to get it on the road this year. Sure, there is a lot to do, but they keep chipping away at it and in the video below it’s time for the interior to come together. If a few of us are going to be able to hop in this thing and road trip for our favorite drag and drive then it has to get running and driving, but not before a few critical pieces come together. With the floors finished in a previous video, it was time to get the interior coming together and that’s what this video is about. If you missed any of the previous videos on the Caddy, click the link below. Finnegan’s Cadillac is arguably one of the most talked about drag and drive projects in recent years and while he’s been working on building his Lexus LC500 into a genuinely fast drag and drive car, it’s the Caddy that grabs everyone’s attention. We all know the project has had some setbacks and changes over the past couple of years, but Mike is committed to getting this thing on the road and so he’s really working on it. And then he broke his leg. Again. Well a different leg, but his leg none the less. But the work continues, check it out below.
