Grizzly Bear Tours on Vancouver Island this Fall
In British Columbia, Grizzly Bear Tours take centre stage each fall, as salmon return to their natal streams and the remote BC forests blaze with seasonal colours. This is one of nature’s most awe-inspiring events, and witnessing bears feast on the salmon run is a once-in-a-lifetime experience an essential stop on any BC fall road trip. We offer direct bookings through our trusted partner, Campbell River Whale Watching The Salmon Runs Every fall, British Columbia’s salmon return from the Pacific Ocean to the streams of Vancouver Island and the mainland to spawn. These Pacific salmon follow a remarkable breeding pattern, returning to the exact location where they were born to lay their eggs and begin the next generation. Salmon spend most of their lives in the ocean. In their final year, they begin an arduous journey through rivers and lakes to reach their natal spawning grounds. Those who make it reproduce and complete the cycle. Those who don’t usually die without reproducing, though a small number may spawn elsewhere. A Feast for Grizzlies The fall salmon run aligns perfectly with Grizzly Bears’ preparation for hibernation. October is a prime month for both species, the salmon are making their way back to their spawning points, and bears are fattening up for hibernation, typically retreating into their dens in November. Bears gather around key rivers, competing for prime fishing spots. The largest often claim areas just above small waterfalls, where salmon collect and leap the rivers to continue their journey. Some get lucky and time it perfectly. Others jump straight into a waiting Grizzly’s jaws. What to Know Before You Go Tours depart daily from Campbell River and head into Toba or Bute Inlet—some of the most pristine wilderness areas on the coast. Grizzly bear tours are land-based, meaning you’ll disembark from your covered, heated vessel and explore on foot or by shuttle with trained guides. You’ll be led by Indigenous guides from the Homalco or Klahoose First Nations, offering deep insight into local ecology, culture, and storytelling traditions. FarOut Wilderness recommends Campbell River Whale Watching for both bear and whale tours. Their certified bear-viewing guides follow ethical wildlife practices and deliver top-tier service. Planning Your Itinerary and 4×4 Rental Whether you’re touring Nature’s Paradise, taking the Rugged North, or driving the Pacific Loop, it’s easy to slot a grizzly bear tour into your adventure. Campbell River is a scenic, coastal stop perfectly positioned for wildlife encounters, only a few hours from Comox, Tofino, or Victoria. Travelling in a FarOut Wilderness 4×4 vehicle means you have the freedom to adapt your itinerary on the fly. With our best customer service and rugged, fully-equipped overland rigs, you can spend your fall immersed in the true wilds of British Columbia, without sacrificing comfort. FAQ’s Q: When is the best time to go grizzly bear viewing? A: Late September to late October is ideal, with October offering peak salmon run activity and fall foliage. Q: Can I see whales and bears on the same tour? A: Absolutely. Tours often stop for humpback whales, orcas, dolphins, and sea lions en route to the bear viewing sites. Q: Is it safe around the grizzly bears? A: Yes. All tours are guided by certified professionals and follow strict safety and wildlife-viewing protocols. Q: What should I bring? A: Layers, waterproof outerwear, binoculars, a camera, and a sense of adventure! Q: I heard there weren’t grizzlies on Vancouver Island, so how are their grizzly tours leaving from Campbell River? A: Great question! The tours leave from Campbell River, going to the Bute Inlet on mainland British Columbia, a grizzly bear dense area. There are no roads accessing this remote area of BC, so boat tours and floatplanes are the only ways to access this area. Book Your Trip Today The feeling of watching a 500-pound grizzly gently pluck a salmon from the river, backlit by golden foliage and rising mountain mist, is something you never forget. This is Beautiful BC at its finest—raw, wild, and sacred. Book your grizzly bear tour through FarOut Wilderness today and build it into your personalized road trip with our expert team. We’re here to help craft your perfect fall adventure. The post Grizzly Bear Tours on Vancouver Island this Fall appeared first on Far Out Wilderness. View the full article

New Land Rover Defenders are Dakar Ready
There’s no denying that the overall reaction to the reintroduction of the Land Rover Defender in 2020 was lukewarm at best. Now it seems Land Rover is playing a bit of catch-up with varying new Defender models specifically engineered for the kind of off-roading this legendary 4×4 is associated with, and even one that’s built to take on the legendary Dakar rally. The Defender Octa debuted earlier this year and features a host of upgrades geared toward performance on and off the pavement. For starters, it’s powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 that cranks out 626 horsepower. That’s 108 more horsepower than the second most powerful option, and over double the stock 2.0 four-cylinder. The twin-turbo V8 pushes 590 pound-feet of torque, and it boasts a 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds. The track is widened by 2.7 inches, and the Octa boasts 11.5 inches of ground clearance. And because stream crossings happen, the Octa can handle just shy of three feet of water. 35.4 inches to be exact. READ MORE: Top 6 Tips on How to Work From the Road as a Digital Nomad If the Octa isn’t off-road ready and performance-focused enough for you, don’t fret, because while it isn’t available at the local dealership, the Defender D7X-R is ready to take on one of the world’s toughest tracks. This Rover will be piloted by four-time Dakar Rally stage winner Sara Price in the 2026 edition of the race. Sara will be competing in the “Stock” category across a nearly 5,000-mile course that features tough desert terrain and conditions that push both driver and machine. With any luck the modifications and engineering found on the D7X-R will trickle down to future iterations of the Defender available to the public. View the full article
