VW Recalls 75,000 Jetta and Taos Over Dashboard That Goes Completely Dark While Driving
Volkswagen is recalling 75,323 examples of the 2025 Jetta and 2025 Taos in the United States after confirming that a software error can cause the digital instrument cluster to go completely black while driving. Another 8,040 vehicles are affected in Canada, pushing the North American total past 83,000. The NHTSA recall filing, published March 25, 2026, under campaign number 26V185000, classifies the defect as a violation of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 101. That is the federal rule that says your car has to tell you how fast you are going. The cluster is supplied by Volkswagen de Mexico and installed at the Puebla assembly plant. The software fault can prevent the display from rendering at startup, or it can cause it to drop out entirely mid-drive. There is no partial failure here, no fallback mode where you keep a speedometer but lose the fuel gauge. The entire screen goes dark. Speed, fuel level, engine temperature, brake alerts, check engine light: all gone. The car itself keeps running normally you just have no data to understand what is going on. Every affected vehicle was built at Puebla, with all VINs starting with the number 3. The 2025 Volkswagen Jetta production window runs September 23, 2024, through July 1, 2025. For the 2025 Volkswagen Taos, the dates span November 6, 2024, to June 20, 2025. VW says it identified and corrected the fault in production during the week of August 11, 2025, so anything built after that should be clear. What Owners Need To DoIf you drive a 2025 Jetta or Taos, check your VIN at NHTSA.gov or through Volkswagen's own recall page at vw.com. Affected VINs have been searchable since March 22. Official notification letters are not expected until May 22, 2026, nearly two months after dealers were notified on March 27. So don't wait for that and get the issue handled promptly. No Over-The-Air FixThis is not a recall that resolves itself with a remote software download to your driveway. Dealers will apply the update through the OBD-II port using a specialized VW diagnostic tool, and if that does not resolve the issue, the entire instrument cluster gets replaced. Both remedies are free of charge. Volkswagen This Recall Hits VW Where It HurtsThe Jetta sold 54,291 units in the U.S. last year. The Taos sold 55,198. Starting prices of $23,995 and $26,500 make them the two cheapest ways into a new Volkswagen, and combined they account for more American sales than any other models in the lineup. When a recall lands on both at once, it is not something VW can quietly deal with in the background. And this is familiar territory. Back in 2019, VW recalled about 73,500 examples of the Atlas, Tiguan, and Jetta for a different electrical fault in the instrument cluster. Different cars, different era, same component. This should raise questions about how VW validates the thing drivers stare at every time they get behind the wheel. A dark dashboard at highway speed is not the kind of surprise anyone needs. 2027 Chrysler Pacifica Looks Striking in Person, but the Interior's Something Else
A One-Car Brand, Still Holding the LineIt’s still a bit surreal that Chrysler is effectively a one-model operation. And that one model, the Chrysler Pacifica, happens to be a minivan. Not exactly the most glamorous segment, but it’s been doing the heavy lifting for years – and doing it well. It even topped its segment in 2025, which says a lot about how well-rounded the package still is. Chrysler keeps hinting at a bigger comeback, but for now, the 2027 update is what keeps the lights on. We saw it at the New York International Auto Show, and it’s clear that the updated Pacifica looks fresher in the metal than it does in press images. There’s more presence, even if the basics haven’t changed – at least until you slide open the doors. Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Looks Sharper, Feels Newer – Until You Step InsideUp close, the 2027 Pacifica feels like the old model went through a futuristic lens. The shape is familiar, but the front end does all the talking. Slimmer lights run across the nose, and those vertical LEDs add a hint of attitude – almost like an EV. It’s not a concept car, but for a minivan, it gets closer than you’d think. The grille is now lower and wider, with a more detailed pattern that gives it some edge. Add in the smooth bodywork and new wheels, and the Pacifica ends up looking sleeker than you’d expect. The rear gets its own update with a full-width light bar, so it looks more up-to-date as you walk up. But from the side, it’s clear this is still the same Pacifica underneath. The profile hasn’t changed. Then you open the door – that’s where you must temper your expectations, like previously reported. The cabin is essentially unchanged from what we’ve seen since 2021. Same layout and overall design – except for the updated Chrysler emblem, which simplifies the previous graphic wing. It’s not a bad interior – it’s still practical, still intuitive – but next to that updated exterior, it feels like it’s lagging behind. The new color and trim options help a bit, especially that blue-toned upholstery with contrast piping. View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Familiar underpinnings, small but useful updatesMechanically, nothing really changes – and that’s both reassuring and a little disappointing. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 carries over with 287 horsepower and 262 lb-ft, paired to a nine-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive remains standard, with all-wheel drive still available, which continues to be one of its key advantages over rivals. There are a few useful updates elsewhere. The base LX now takes over from the old Voyager, which streamlines the lineup. Outside, you get a new wing badge, fresh wheel designs, and new colors like Olive Green. Headlights now reach farther, too. Inside, the changes are mostly about features. Safety tech now includes turn signal-activated camera views, and you get more flexibility with tech packages. You can pick things like Amazon Fire TV or premium audio without having to buy a bundle. Pricing starts at $41,495 and climbs past $58,000 for a loaded Pinnacle AWD. That puts the Pacifica right in the mix with the Toyota Sienna and Kia Carnival, though it’s not aiming for the bargain end. Seeing the 2027 Pacifica in person makes it look fresher than its age suggests. Step inside, though, and you remember just how long this minivan has been on the road. Kaulig Racing says fuel prices put a dent in NASCAR budget
The national average for diesel fuel on April 1 was $5.490 and that is a strain to NASCAR teams like Kaulig Racing who say it has taken a toll on its intended budget before the season began in February. The military conflict in Iran has led to a surge in prices and while it dropped to just over $5 on April 2 following a national address by the President of the United States offering that the ...Keep readingView the full article

The Most Powerful Subaru Ever Is This Electric Family SUV
The Big PictureThe 2027 Subaru Getaway is the brand’s first proper three-row electric SUV, unveiled at the New York International Auto Show, and we got the chance to see it in the metal. As Subaru’s most ambitious EV yet, it has the proportions to back that: it’s big, unapologetically family-focused, and clearly designed to replace the role of the Subaru Ascent in an electrified future, only now with far more power and tech baked in. This is Subaru leaning hard into electrification without abandoning its identity. Standard all-wheel drive, real ground clearance, and usable third-row space signal that the Getaway isn’t just another soft-roader EV. It’s positioned as a proper adventure-ready people mover that can haul seven and still sprint like a performance car. Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article No STI Badge, but More PowerfulAt launch, the Getaway packs a dual-motor setup producing 420 horsepower, making it the most powerful production Subaru ever built. That translates to a claimed 0-60 mph time of under five seconds, Subaru territory that used to belong exclusively to icons like the Subaru WRX STI. It rides on a shared architecture co-developed with Toyota, reportedly related to the upcoming Highlander EV, rather than Subaru’s traditional Subaru Global Platform. A 95.8-kWh battery delivers over 300 miles of range, with 150 kW fast-charging capability and a native NACS port. A smaller 77-kWh battery option is expected later, but AWD remains standard across the board. Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article An Unobnoxious Looking EV, SubaruThe Getaway looks like a natural evolution of Subaru’s rugged design language: chunky proportions, upright stance, and just enough futuristic surfacing to remind you it’s electric. It doesn’t chase the hyper-minimalist EV aesthetic that many EVs seem to adhere to. Instead, it feels familiar, almost reassuring, especially for buyers stepping out of an Outback or Ascent. Inside, you get true three-row usability, with available captain’s chairs, one-touch second-row access, and a power-folding third row. Subaru claims even six-foot passengers can fit across all rows, which we have found to be mostly true. And yes – it’s true. This is officially Subaru’s most powerful vehicle to date. Not a halo WRX. Not an STI. An electric family SUV. That shift says everything about where the brand is headed. The cabin mirrors that philosophy too: functional, spacious, tech-forward, but not overly flashy. Think durable materials, logical layout, and just enough digital integration to feel modern without alienating loyalists. Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article Not Meant for Track DaysSubaru didn’t build the Getaway to chase Nürburgring lap times or revive the STI badge. They built it to solve a very modern problem: how do you make a practical, family-ready EV without losing the brand’s core DNA? The answer is this. It’s quick, yes, but more importantly, it’s usable, capable, and thoughtfully engineered. It’s not a Subaru WRX. It’s not an STI, but it doesn’t need to be. For today’s value-obsessed buyer, someone who wants space, range, capability, and just enough performance, the Getaway might be Subaru’s most relevant vehicle in decades. 2027 Nissan Z Nismo in the Metal: Nissan's Manual Sports Car Looks Epic
The 2026 New York International Auto Show is in full swing, and Nissan brought its recently revealed 2027 Z Nismo to the event, allowing us to get up close and personal with one of the last remaining manual sports car offerings on the market. Nissan is particularly proud of that six-speed fact, putting an H-pattern decal on the door of a red Z Nismo that was placed above its stand. Personally, I quite like the red paint on this model, as the red accents of a Nismo variant can be a bit garish and vulgar when they're placed on a contrasting-color car. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below. In the meantime, let's recap the Z Nismo and take a closer look at its bodywork and interior. 2027 Nissan Z Nismo Looks Even More Aggressive in the Metal Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article While we don't have anything bad to say about the official photography supplied with the Z Nismo's press release, it just looks so much bolder and more exciting in person. This is especially true at the front, where the chin spoiler looks much deeper and more aggressively slanted. It's also true of the doors and rocker panels, which seem to taper in a more obvious way. The rear is quite bulky, but a mass of gloss black paint helps to hide its size. As we noted above, the red accents on the gray model in these images are far less subtle, but to be fair, if you're buying the most hardcore version of a sports car, you may as well lean into it and make sure everyone around you knows you take performance seriously. Speaking of performance... 2027 Nissan Z Nismo Gets GT-R Brakes and More Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article One of the biggest changes to the 2027 Z Nismo is that the sports car now features two-piece iron-aluminum brake rotors, using learnings gained with the Nissan GT-R. These will be better at shedding heat and will improve the car's unsprung mass, saving a total of 19 pounds. Nissan retuned the suspension to account for this lower corner mass, and the steering rack was also fiddled with for sharper responses. Adam Lynton/Autoblog Adam Lynton/Autoblog Adam Lynton/Autoblog Adam Lynton/Autoblog The other big change for 2027 is the addition of a six-speed manual transmission, and the gear lever is fairly tall, allowing a driver's hand to fall from the sueded steering wheel to the ball shifter more easily. A long accelerator pedal should make heel-and-toe downshifts easy, too, while the supportive red-accented Recaro seats add a little more GT-R flavor and combine with red contrast stitching nicely. Also red is the D-Mode switch ahead of the shifter, making it a cinch to switch between drive modes. It's a nice place to sit, and we hope to see buyers take to the track regularly. 2027 Nissan Z Nismo: Take a Peek Underneath Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article You almost never want to see the undercarriage of your car. If you do, it either means something is wrong and it's on a lift to be fixed, or you've had a crash and the rubber bits are facing the sky. Or maybe you're just performing an oil change. Regardless, it's a perspective not many usually see, so we snapped some pics. Of course, we'd have preferred it if Nissan had displayed the regular 2027 Z in its new Shinkai Green Pearl paint, but beggars can't be choosers, so take a closer look at the dual exhaust system that lets the Z Nismo's 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 produce its 420-horsepower/384-lb-ft output. Pricing for the new Z Nismo is yet to be announced, and the manual option will be scarce (which means expensive), but the rear-wheel-drive sports car will arrive at dealers this summer. The U.S. Will Build the Polestar 3 for the World
Say what you will about the US import tariffs on automobiles and their unpleasant effects on automakers and buyers alike, but the truth is they have been very successful so far in convincing (i.e. forcing) companies to invest in US manufacturing. The latest one to do so is Polestar, the EV maker majority-owned by China’s Geely, which has announced that it will consolidate US production of Polestar 3 electric SUVs at the Ridgeville, South Carolina plant operated by Volvo Cars (which is also owned by Geely). Polestar 3 EV Will Be Made Exclusively in the US for Global Markets Polestar This effectively means that the Polestar 3, which is also produced in Chengdu, China, will be made exclusively in the United States for global markets. Polestar 3 production at the Chinese plant, which started in early 2024, will soon come to an end. A Volvo Cars spokesperson told WardsAuto that the “the consolidation of global production of Polestar at Volvo Car Charleston is planned to take place from the fourth quarter of 2026, onwards.” In a press release, the Swedish automaker says the move further reinforces the strategic role of its US plant as a key manufacturing hub for Volvo Cars and Polestar. "The move to consolidate global Polestar 3 production in Charleston help generate efficiencies for both companies, whilst also underscoring our confidence in the plant and the role it plays in our manufacturing footprint,’ said Volvo Cars CEO Håkan Samuelsson. ‘The US is a very important market for Volvo Cars, both to support our growth ambitions as well as a strategic production site to meet regional and export demands.” Volvo The South Carolina plant already builds Polestar 3 EVs for the US market, as well as the EX90 electric SUV; both vehicles are built on Volvo Cars’ SPA2 platform. In addition to these EVs, Volvo will make the XC60 compact SUV at its South Carolina factory. The carmaker also plans to add a new, next-generation hybrid model to the production line of plant before 2030. The as-yet-unnamed model is designed to meet the specific demands of US buyers. Located outside Charleston, the Ridgeville plant currently has an installed production capacity of 150,000 cars per year, following investments totaling $1.3 billion in the last decade. Volvo Cars to Increase Its Polestar Stake to 19.9% James Ochoa Manufacturing announcement aside, Polestar and Volvo Cars had another update to share regarding a $274 million outstanding convertible loan from Volvo Cars that has been converted into Polestar equity. The transaction saw Volvo Cars increase its stake in Polestar from 9.8% to 19.9%. Mind you, the deal is expected to be followed by a previously announced $300 million debt-to-equity conversion by Geely Sweden Holdings AB, in which case Volvo Cars’ stake will be temporarily diluted. The Swedish carmaker will then carry out a second, smaller conversion of approximately $65 million to maintain its stake in Polestar to 19.9 percent. Volvo Cars said the initial conversion has taken effect on March 31, 2026, with the second smaller conversion set to follow during the second quarter 2026, provided that Geely Sweden Holdings AB’s conversion is completed. Volvo Cars’ total outstanding loan amounted to $1 billion, with maturity in 2028. After the two conversions will be complete, the remaining outstanding loan is estimated to amount to $661 million, with its maturity extended to December 2031. View the full article

Genesis GV60 Magma Brings the Fire to New York
Genesis revealed the GV60 Magma last year, the luxury marque’s first go at a performance sub-brand in the mold of BMW’s M, Audi’s RS, or Merc’s AMG. More than just a classier, upscale version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, the GV60 Magma will pack an outrageous 601 horsepower when it arrives in the U.S. this summer. Like any great performance car, the GV60 Magma has to look the part, and after seeing it in the metal at this week’s New York International Auto Show, it seems like Genesis has hit a home run. Related: Just Like BMW M: Every Genesis Model Will Get a Magma Version The Naughty Side of Genesis 2027 Genesis GV60 Magma Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 5 images of this gallery on the original article For a luxury brand with cars that tend to have a Bentley-like allure, the all-out sportiness of the GV60 Magma can come as a shock when you first see it. The Magma Orange paint immediately jumps out—it’s a far cry from the reserved color palette found on most Genesis models. The stacked headlight design is shared with the normal GV60, but the front fascia features a much more aggressive bumper and a more prominent lip. Triple-hole vents in the bumper are another touch exclusive to the Magma. 2027 Genesis GV60 Magma Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Moving around the side, the 21-inch forged black wheels contrast well with the orange paintwork, as do the various gloss-black accents. The side skirts feature three-hole cut-outs that mirror those in front, and there are more aggressive fenders than on normal GV60s. It’s impossible to miss the wing-type rear spoiler, which should boost downforce. The new rear bumper and prominent diffuser add some menace to the rear view. Interestingly, there are no visible ‘Magma’ badges, unlike on a BMW M car. Related: US-Spec Genesis GV60 Magma Spotted Looking Anything but Boring A Racy Yet Luxurious Interior 2027 Genesis GV60 Magma Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 5 images of this gallery on the original article Inside, though, there’s a ‘Magma’ orange button on the steering wheel that unleashes 641 hp in short bursts, as part of the EV’s boost mode. Operating at peak power, this Genesis will easily reach 60 mph in under four seconds. Sporty orange stitching can be seen on the dashboard, steering wheel, and seats. Speaking of seats, these have a satisfying suede-like material, which should help to hold occupants in place. Orange seat belts add another dash of flair, but the craftsmanship inherent in every Genesis model is still evident in details like the Crystal Sphere gear selector, which has an eerie orange glow in the Magma. Adam Lynton/Autoblog Overall, it’s a high-quality cabin with a lot more personality than a Tesla’s interior. It feels like you’re seated in a sporty, sophisticated machine. What Are Its Rivals? 2026 Tesla Model Y Performance Tesla View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article As a small but high-performance electric crossover, the GV60 Magma will compete against rivals like the Cadillac Optiq-V (perhaps its closest competitor in terms of its mix of performance and luxury), the Tesla Model Y Performance, and the Porsche Macan Electric. All deliver breathtaking straight-line performance, especially the Tesla, which shoots to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds. What should differentiate them is the driving experience and the level of luxury. The Tesla has a sparser interior than the others, but some will prefer the minimalist look. If you prefer sporty responses, Porsche typically has the edge, but we won’t underestimate the GV60 Magma. After all, Hyundai showed us what it can do with a performance EV in the fantastic Ioniq 5 N. If the Magma drives as well as that, it’ll be a blast. These vehicles all show that EVs need not only be refined and environmentally friendly, but also genuinely enjoyable. View the full article

Affordable Ford EV in the Works, Will Target Model 3 and Model Y
It’s no secret that Ford Motor Company is looking to diversify its portfolio with more affordable cars, and there’s has been a lot of talk lately about the brand’s return to the affordable sedan segment. The Blue Oval recently announced plans to launch five new vehicles under $40,000, including a four-door car. This has led to speculation regarding the platform Ford is going to use, with some outlets claiming the C2 architecture, which underpins models like the Bronco Sport, Maverick, and China’s Mondeo sedan, would make a great fit. As it turns out, Ford may have something else in mind as CEO Jim Farley said last week the company is working on a Tesla Model 3 and Model Y competitor. Ford's Affordable EV Has "Radically Different Engineering"Jim Farley for the first time confirmed the plans during an appearance on Spike’s Car Radio podcast last week. “We’ll have an all-electric affordable vehicle to compete with Model Y and Model 3,” the head honcho said. “I think there’s nothing else like it on the market for these new vehicles coming out from Ford,” he added. Interestingly, Farley also said Ford will offer hybrid variants for every model, as well as EREVs for towing; this may suggest that a hybrid sedan should not be ruled out either. The executive elaborated on how the EV will be “radically different” from what the company has built so far. “We really started a skunkworks team in California four years ago, they were basically Formula 1 and Tesla people. You know, my badge didn’t even work in the building, and that vehicle is radically different engineering. I’m really excited to show everyone later this year maybe next year, and it will be coming out next year.” So there you have it, development of an affordable all-electric four-door Ford is quite advanced, with the market launch expected to take place in 2027. Farley’s comments are certainly very interesting, although it’s not clear if he was talking about a single vehicle that will act as a competitor for both the Model 3 and the Model Y, or two distinct vehicles. The part about building a Model Y rival is a bit confusing as the Ford Mustang Mach-E already competes with Tesla’s best-selling vehicle. In the absence of any official confirmation, we can only guess that Jim Farley was referring to a Mach-E successor, which should be developed on a dedicated EV platform and not adapted from an ICE platform like the current Mach-E. Model 3 and Model Y Rival Likely Based on Universal EV Platform As for the radically different engineering, that will likely be enabled by Ford’s low-cost, flexible Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform on which the models are expected to be built. The first model underpinned by the UEV will be a midsize truck scheduled to debut next year. But the modular architecture will underpin other models as well, with the most affordable of them expected to cost under $30,000. Ford’s CEO previously said the platform could accommodate several “top hats,” including the midsize pickup and likely a compact crossover. He also said the UEV platform will be a “Model T moment” for the brand, hinting at a complete reset for Ford EVs. Details about Ford’s Universal EV platform are quite scarce, but we do know that the pickup will be rear-wheel drive and “super fun to drive,” according to Jim Farley; mind you, the platform will also offer all-wheel drive configurations, Ford Model e boss Doug Field said. Future UEV models may also include two- and three-row SUVs, a subcompact and larger sedan, and a van, according to Ford Authority. The UEV architecture is expected to use smaller battery packs to enable a balance between performance and efficiency. The batteries will likely use lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) chemistry, which is more affordable and durable than traditional nickel-rich lithium-ion cells. Ford will soon start manufacturing LFP batteries under license from CATL at the new $3 billion BlueOval Battery Park Michigan site. View the full article

Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Might Be the New GT500
A New GT500 in All but NameThe Mustang Dark Horse SC is important for Ford, but not just as another trim. It steps in as the real-world replacement for the Shelby GT500, minus the badge. When it arrived in New York, it was clear Ford built it to fill that gap. The specs line up with what you’d expect. Ford swapped in a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 for the usual naturally aspirated engine, and most of the hardware is aimed at track performance. Carbon fiber wheels are on the options list, the aero is functional, and the stance is unmistakably performance-focused. Ford hasn’t officially called this the S550 GT500 successor, but it’s clear where it fits. It sits below the GTD but well above the standard Dark Horse. For drivers who want real performance without stepping into a full-on race car, this is the option. Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article Looks Like a Dark Horse That Got Obsessed With Track DaysUp close, the Mustang Dark Horse SC looks like a standard S650 that’s been set up for serious track use. The front end is sharper and built for function. Larger grille openings and lower intakes are there for cooling, and the carbon-heavy fascia adds a technical edge. The hood vents and pins look purposeful and not something tacked on just for the sake of it. From the side, the Mustang shape is still there, but the Dark Horse SC’s details are different. The wheels fill the arches well, with a ride height that’s set for grip, not comfort. At the back, the diffuser is deep and functional, and the wing is clearly there for the needed traction when carving corners. Inside, it’s obvious that this ‘Stang is built differently. The Recaro seats are built for support; the Alcantara-wrapped tiller features a center marker; and the layout is tighter and more driver-oriented. The digital interface is there, but the main priority is the driving position. This car expects you to stay engaged. Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article And Then There’s the Price...The real changes are under the skin of the Dark Horse SC. The supercharged 5.2-liter V8 is the main upgrade, though Ford hasn’t released final power numbers. Expect it to make more than the standard Dark Horse’s 500 horsepower, but less than the Mustang GTD. Power goes through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. As for the chassis, the suspension geometry is revised, MagneRide is retuned, and stiffer springs and upgraded parts all aim for sharper handling. The optional Track Pack adds carbon fiber wheels, carbon-ceramic brakes, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires. That package also increases downforce to 620 pounds at speed. Ford has already confirmed the starting price at $103,490. Adding the Track Pack brings it to about $139,990, and a fully loaded special edition could reach $170,970 before destination fees. Orders are expected to open in spring, with deliveries beginning in summer. The question is: Is the Mustang Dark Horse SC worth it? Well, that depends on the buyer, but it’s worth noting that the 2022 Shelby Mustang GT500 it’s replacing is priced at $88,000 with inflation factored in. Hyundai Teases Two More Wild Concepts Coming This Month
As if Hyundai hadn't already made a big enough splash at the New York International Auto Show with the reveal of the Boulder SUV concept, the automaker has now teased two more wild concepts, expected to debut in the coming days. Very little information has accompanied the teasers, previewed alongside a short clip embedded at the bottom of this article, but we know they're called Venus and Earth, and that their designs will influence future Ioniq EV models. Hyundai plans to make its entire range look more cohesive without sacrificing the individuality that helps set each model apart, and these teasers appear to be the first step in a new aesthetic direction. Hyundai Venus and Earth Concepts Look Very Special Hyundai/Facebook Let's start with the Venus, which bears a golden finish. The teaser image shows exceptionally narrow taillights, a sloping rear end, and a subtle upturned spoiler at the rear edge. It's unknown if this previews a hatchback of sorts, a crossover, or a sedan with a fastback rear opening (think Audi A5), but the angular bodywork will be a defining feature of this new design direction. Hyundai's teaser video showed a meteorite crashing into the ground to reveal a multi-faceted jewel-like center, and this appears to suggest that the concepts will lean into a less rounded look. We don't know when the new look will be applied to a production vehicle, but this teaser suggests that the slippery style of the Ioniq 6 will be abandoned. What about the other teaser? The other concept, the Hyundai Earth, shares the jagged, sharp-edged look of a cut precious stone, and its front end shows a vertical strip of light that is segmented as it leads downward, creating a short scuttle. This calls to mind a Lamborghini, like the Vision V12 Gran Turismo. Again, it's unclear what class this concept might fall into, but it's clear that the pixel lighting of contemporary Hyundai Ioniq models will be abandoned. Fortunately, we don't have too long to wait before we get answers. New Hyundai Concepts Will Debut This Month Hyundai Hyundai's Chinese website has added a countdown to a "Hyundai Ioniq Brand Launch Event" on April 10, so it appears that these concepts may be unveiled then, and with the Beijing Auto Show taking place on April 24, a public debut for these concepts seems destined to happen soon. While that may suggest that the new concepts are meant to preview offerings for the Chinese market, Hyundai intends to launch at least 36 new cars in the U.S. by 2030, and these new concepts may be the first hint at some of the upcoming products. Stay tuned, more teasers are sure to follow in the coming weeks. View the full article

Toyota’s Best-Selling Model In 2026 Isn’t The RAV4
Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) has posted its U.S. sales results for March and the first quarter of 2026, and the news isn’t as positive as we’re used to from the Japanese brand. In March, Toyota sold 182,606 vehicles, down by 6.9%, while quarterly sales reached 488,468 units, steadier but still down by 0.3%. These numbers exclude Lexus sales; when taking the luxury brand into account, TMNA sales dropped by 17.3% in March. As we’ll see when digging into the numbers, a decline in sales for the best-selling RAV4 brought the company’s overall numbers down significantly—but there’s a good reason for that. Camry Takes Over The Top Spot Toyota Toyota launched the all-new RAV4 crossover last year. The company’s best-selling vehicle for years, transitioning to the new generation of the model has been complicated. While demand for the SUV remains high, production is still ramping up for the new RAV4, which has impacted early sales. “We maintained stable sales year-over-year, even while navigating production constraints and limited inventory during the ramp-up of our traditional volume leader, the new RAV4,” said Andrew Gilleland, senior vice president, Automotive Operations Group, TMNA. Toyota As a result, RAV4 sales dropped to 21,693 units in March, a sharp year-on-year decline of 47.7%. It went from being Toyota’s best-selling model a year ago to fourth spot last month. These were Toyota’s top-selling models last month: Toyota Camry: 30,680 (+3.4% YoY)Toyota Tacoma: 24,998 (+4.4% YoY)Toyota Corolla: 23,210 (+8% YoY)Toyota RAV4: 21,693 (-47.7% YoY)Toyota Grand Highlander: 13,895 (+26.8% YoY)It’s rare that an automaker’s best-selling vehicle in 2026 is a sedan, but the Camry achieved this honor for Toyota in March and for the quarter. RAV4 first-quarter sales declined by 48.1% to 59,869 units, down from 115,402 units in the same quarter last year. In February, we reported on TMNA bosses informing dealers that 2026 RAV4 inventory would be tight. To compensate, dealers have been asked to redirect customers to other models in the company’s lineup in the meantime. It’s a tough ask, since nothing else offers the RAV4’s near-perfect combination of practicality, efficiency, and value. Related: Toyota’s RAV4 Is So Popular It’s Becoming a Problem Grand Highlander Hybrid and Corolla Cross Hit New Highs Toyota Grand Highlander Limited Hybrid Toyota View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Toyota reported all-time best-ever sales for the gas-powered Corolla Cross and Grand Highlander Hybrid, although it’s unclear if this relates to March or first-quarter sales specifically. In Q1, Grand Highlander Hybrid sales reached 20,532 units, a healthy increase of 86.9%. Corolla Cross Hybrid sales, on the other hand, declined by a massive 78.4% in March, so the bulk of this crossover’s 11,709 sales were for the gas-only model. A series of recalls affecting the Corolla Cross Hybrid specifically may have something to do with that. The 4Runner (+77.4%), bZ (+139.5%), and GR Supra (+99.4%) were the fastest-growing models in terms of March sales. The all-new C-HR EV started with only 13 sales in March, but that’s expected to increase in the months ahead. What It Means Toyota Toyota’s latest sales report isn't a reason to panic yet. While sales are down overall, this has much to do with the transition to the new RAV4 generation and doesn’t reflect lower demand for the crossover. March 2025 was also an especially strong month across the industry, while record car prices and winter weather further hampered sales last month. In the meantime, the Camry has shown its resilience and continued relevancy, despite the decline in demand for sedans. It was last Toyota’s top-selling model (in terms of annual sales) in 2016, before the RAV4 took over. For anyone who wants a RAV4 but can’t find one due to low inventory, the Camry is a viable alternative with its punchy hybrid powertrain and sub-$30k starting price. View the full article

Jeep Is Bringing Back the Manual Gladiator—Taking Aim at Tacoma
The Gladiator is Getting its Stick Shift BackThe Jeep Wrangler remains one of the most affordable ways to get a manual SUV today. That alone makes it an outlier in a market that has largely abandoned the format. For Jeep, it is not just about cost. It is about identity and maintaining a connection to its off-road roots. The Jeep Gladiator used to mirror that formula. Buyers could once pair the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with a six-speed manual. That option was quietly discontinued for the 2025 refresh. The truck itself remained. The loss of the manual left the Toyota Tacoma as the only stick shift pickup in the United States. Jeep now appears ready to correct that gap. Jeep Confirms Interest as Manuals Show Signs of LifeAt the Easter Jeep Safari, Aamir Ahmed told CarBuzz, "We have another car that looks like a Wrangler that’s getting its manual back. Stay tuned." The brand still values manual transmissions. His statement pointed to a return to a manual transmission in a Wrangler-like model. That strongly indicates the Gladiator. There is also a broader trend supporting the move. Manuals are not dead. Data shows a small but notable increase in take rates among enthusiasts. This is especially true for performance and activity-focused vehicles. Off road trucks fall directly into that category. Buyers in this space value control and engagement more than convenience. The Quiet Exit Likely Ties Back to Past IssuesJeep never formally explained why the manual transmission was removed from the Gladiator. Production simplification during the facelift is one likely factor. Low demand makes a manual easy to cut when streamlining manufacturing. It reduces complexity across assembly and inventory. Another factor may have been the wave of recalls tied to manual transmissions in the early 2020s. Both Wrangler and Gladiator models were affected by clutch-related issues. In some cases, the defects carried safety risks. Owners on Reddit suggest updated components have since addressed those problems. That opens the door for a return with improved hardware. Stellantis This Is the Fight Worth HavingLook at the list of vehicles keeping manuals alive today, and a pattern appears. They are enthusiastic cars. They are vehicles built for engagement. That is exactly where the Gladiator sits. A manual pickup is not about sales volume but about character and differentiation. Driving a manual is still a core skill. It teaches mechanical sympathy and driver awareness. Bringing it back to the Jeep Gladiator matters not just to fans but also to those who want to retain driving engagement in their daily commutes. A proper showdown with the Toyota Tacoma would give enthusiasts a real choice again. That alone makes this comeback worth watching. Jeep View the full article

Nissan Says It Can't Build Cheap Cars in America
Tariffs Are Changing the GameTariffs from the US aren’t doing carmakers any favors. Automakers have already lost billions to these extra costs, and that pain eventually lands on buyers – right when new car prices are already flirting with record highs. Some brands, like Hyundai, have done what President Trump hoped: they’re building more cars in the US to dodge tariffs and check the box for domestic production. That approach works if you’re big enough and have the margins to absorb the extra costs. But not every automaker can play that game. For brands that depend on entry-level models to move the needle, it’s a different story. That’s exactly where Nissan is right now. Nissan Why Nissan Can’t Build Cheap Cars in the USAccording to Christian Meunier, the issue comes down to cost structure. Speaking to Bloomberg, he made it clear that building affordable models in the US simply doesn’t add up. “We couldn’t build these entry-level cars in the US at the same cost, we couldn’t do it,” Meunier said. “The problem is the margin.” For cars like the Nissan Sentra and Kicks (and Kicks Play), price is everything. These models start just above $22,000, and moving production to the US would mean higher labor and operating costs – likely pushing them out of reach for the buyers they’re meant for. Right now, Nissan builds these cars in Mexico to keep costs down. But even with that advantage, tariffs are tacking on another $2,500 to $3,000 per car – a big hit for budget models. With the average new car price creeping toward $50,000, entry-level options are already on the ropes. The Nissan Versa, now discontinued, was one of the last cars you could get for under $20,000. That says a lot about how squeezed the budget segment is. Nissan The Workaround: Tariff ReliefSince building cheap cars in the US isn’t realistic, Nissan’s answer is simple: lower the tariffs. Nissan is now pushing US officials to cut tariffs on cars built in Mexico, especially with the USMCA agreement up for review. What used to be a routine process has turned into a complicated negotiation, with trade, migration, and politics all in the mix. For Nissan, it’s not about dodging rules – it’s about keeping cars affordable. Meunier says US policymakers seem to get it, especially since high car prices are already a hot topic. Whether or not tariff relief actually happens is still up in the air. For now, though, the math is simple: Nissan can’t build cheap cars in America, and unless something changes on the policy front, affordable models will keep coming from outside the US. Kia Defies Industry Slump With Record Q1 Sales, Beats Hyundai
Kia has shared its latest sales report in the United States, and although March sales were down relative to last year, the company still managed to achieve the highest first-quarter sales in its history. Kia sold 76,508 vehicles in March, down from 78,540 in March 2025, but quarterly sales increased by 4% to 207,015 units. Multiple models set records for first-quarter sales, with the all-new Telluride gaining ground, picking up right where the old one left off. Kia is also outselling Hyundai in 2026 so far, although the sales race between the two Korean brands is close. Sportage Leads The Way Kia Kia’s best-selling model in March was the Sportage, which registered sales of 16,819 units. It was one of four Kias to set new first quarter sales records, the others being the Carnival, K4, and Telluride. These were Kia’s top 5 best-selling models in March 2026: Kia Sportage: 16,819Kia K4/Forte: 13,714Kia Telluride: 13,306Kia Sorento: 8,858Kia Carnival: 6,947“The all-new 2027 Kia Telluride has been well received by U.S. automotive media and is a key addition to the success we are seeing across our lineup of sedans, SUVs and electrified models,” said Eric Watson, vice president, sales operations, Kia America. “As we expand Telluride production capacity in the U.S., including the introduction of a new Turbo-Hybrid powertrain, we believe there is a meaningful opportunity to further grow our share in one of the largest and most important automotive segments.” The Kia model with the largest drop off in sales was the Soul, which registered just 543 sales in March, down from 3,717 a year ago. This is because Kia recently discontinued the Soul, which was its cheapest crossover. The EV9 (1,247) and EV6 (883) were other slow-selling Kias in March, but the EV6 wasn’t actually far off its March 2025 sales performance (921 units). Comparison With Hyundai Cole Attisha Like Kia, Hyundai had its strongest first-quarter sales ever in the U.S., with 205,388 vehicles sold–that puts it just 1,627 units behind Kia so far in 2026. However, Hyundai comfortably outsold Kia in March, with 84,087 sales to Kia’s 76,508. In March, the Hyundai Tucson sold 23,721 units, easily beating the Kia Sportage. The Elantra, Santa Fe, Ioniq 5, and Kona all outsold the equivalent Kia models, too. However, the new Telluride and Ioniq 9 outsold the comparable Hyundai models. Here’s a look at how these key models fared in March 2026. Kia Sportage: 16,819 Hyundai Tucson: 23,721 Compact SUV Kia K4/Forte: 13,714 Hyundai Elantra: 13,883 Compact Sedan Kia Sorento: 8,858 Hyundai Santa Fe: 12,988 Midsize SUV Kia EV6: 883 Hyundai Ioniq 5: 4,425 Midsize Electric SUV Kia Telluride: 13,306 Hyundai Palisade: 9,075 Midsize SUV Kia EV9: 1,247 Hyundai Ioniq 9: 905 Full-Size Electric SUV If Hyundai keeps this momentum up, it may soon pass Kia for total 2026 sales, but it’s too soon to call between these brands. One of the surprises remains how much better Ioniq 5 sales are than the EV6’s, as these two EVs are closely related. Kia’s advantage is having a minivan (Carnival) on sale, but only Hyundai has a pickup truck (Santa Cruz). What It Means Kia The continued growth of the Korean brands in the U.S. has been impressive to witness over the last few months. While major brands like GM, Toyota, and Honda all saw declining first-quarter sales, Kia and Hyundai achieved record sales in Q1. Both Korean brands have set themselves apart with courageous designs, competitive electrified lineups, and plenty of high-value models under $30,000. We look forward to seeing how much more these brands can eat into the market share of Japanese rivals as the year progresses. View the full article

Bentley’s One-Off Travis Pastrana Supersports Looks Wild In Person
A Collab No One Saw ComingBentley: The purveyor of aristocratic vehicles with a slight whiff of athleticism. While we usually imagine these parked up in the fanciest resort and exclusive hot spots, the company isn't shy about flexing its sporting heritage from time to time. Besides, this is an automaker that's won Le Mans six times. But one thing nobody really expected was a collaboration with extreme sports athletes. Back in January, Bentley tapped Travis Pastrana to show the fun side of the Supersports by building a special, one-off model. That very car is the co-star of Bentley's Full Send short film, doing very un-Bentley-like things, and we're here for it. Adam Lynton/Autoblog In the MetalNow, the car isn't just a one-and-done project that's been sent off to the corner of Bentley's garage. If anything, the company is celebrating its wild side, as it's currently on display at the New York Auto Show. It's no replica, either, as it's the actual car used in the film. Some of us wish it wasn't cleaned up for the display, though. Still, it's a sight to behold, and for some reason the seemingly odd pairing just works. It's a bit like seeing members of royalty donning sportswear. The thought of it sounds wrong, but we curious commoners want to see it. Well, if you're in New York, it's worth seeing it in the metal. Adam Lynton/Autoblog Is it Stock, Though? For the most part, it is. Obviously, the livery isn't a factory option, but the rest of the car's body is relatively untouched. More surprisingly, the interior is complete, so one can say that Pastrana was doing all those skids in maximum comfort. The engine is left as is, too. Sadly, there's no W12 under its hood, but it does have a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that punches out 657 bhp and 590 lb-ft of torque. In other words, it's more than enough to light up those rear tires and leave miles and miles of black lines on the road. The only mods done to it were installing a hydraulic handbrake and an on-board fire extinguisher. So far, we're liking this wild side of Bentley. It may not be to everyone's taste, but seeing something this expensive and exclusive being thrashed is always a treat. Call us uncouth, but we can't deny it's cool. Your move, Rolls-Royce. Ford Bronco RTR Up Close Looks Ready to Have Fun with the Raptor
A Factory RTR Lands on the BroncoWhen Ford pulled the wraps off the Bronco RTR earlier this year, it seemed like the next logical step. RTR Vehicles has been building its own versions for a while, but now Ford has taken that approach and made it official, with factory engineering and a warranty to match. The RTR slots between the Badlands and the full-phat Bronco Raptor, offering the kind of upgrades that Bronco owners usually add themselves, but this time you get them straight from the factory. In person at the New York International Auto Show, the Bronco RTR stands out for reasons beyond just another trim level. It looks like Ford paid attention to what owners have been building themselves, then decided to offer it ready-made. The wider stance, extra ride height, and those bright Hyper Lime touches make it easy to spot, even among a crowd of lifted SUVs. Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Looks Like It Wants to Play in the Dirt All DayThe Bronco RTR keeps the familiar boxy shape, but everything about it feels more focused and a little tougher, like it’s been put through its paces in Johnson Valley and came back with a few upgrades. Up front, the lighting looks more intentional, as if it’s ready to pick out the next obstacle. The grille still reads Bronco, but the small changes and accents give it a more focused look. The topographic graphics along the sides, the well-judged stance, and even the bright wheels all come together in a way that works, even if it sounds unlikely on paper. Inside, the Bronco RTR keeps things simple and functional, just like a Bronco should. The Hyper Lime accents appear on the seat belts, stitching, and grab handles, adding some character without going overboard. It feels like everything was chosen to remind you this SUV is meant for more than just city streets. The controls are still physical and right where you’d expect, showing that Ford prioritized usability as much as looks. It’s the kind of interior that works whether you’re picking your way over rocks or just dealing with a weekday commute. Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Turbo Tech, Baja Mode, and a 2027 ArrivalUnder the skin, the Bronco RTR gets real performance upgrades, not just cosmetic tweaks. Ford hasn’t shared all the specs yet, but it will use a turbocharged engine with anti-lag tech to keep boost on tap even when you lift off the throttle. There’s also a new Baja Mode that holds turbo pressure for a few seconds, which helps keep momentum through corners or rough patches. It’s a small touch, but it shows Ford is thinking about how the Bronco RTR will actually be used off-road.TFord will offer two versions: one with 33-inch tires as standard, and another with the Sasquatch package, which adds 35-inch Goodyear tires and upgraded HOSS 3.0 suspension with Fox internal bypass shocks. Orders should open in October, with first deliveries set for January 2027. Pricing isn’t final yet, but expect it to slot between the $51,580 Badlands package and the $81,990 Raptor. The Bronco RTR feels like Ford taking what owners have been doing in their own garages and making it available right from the factory. It still looks ready to get dirty as soon as you drive it off the lot. Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 14 images of this gallery on the original article View the full article

Rare E28 BMW M5 Sets Record With $195K Sale
It’s been over 40 years since BMW launched the first M5, which was based on the E28 5 Series sedan. Very few of these original M5s were sold in the United States, making clean examples desirable and highly valued. That much was proven recently when a 1988 M5 with only 9,800 miles sold for a stunning $195,810 on Hagerty Marketplace. According to the publication, that’s a new record price for the sports sedan, and far exceeds the price of a brand-new G90 M5. So, what makes this particular E28 so special? Once The Fastest Sedan In The World 1988 BMW M5 Hagerty View the 6 images of this gallery on the original article When launched, the M5 could reach a top speed of 245 km/h or 152 mph, making it the fastest sedan in the world. It was one of the original super sedans, combining unprecedented performance with high-end luxury. All the classic BMW M ingredients were in place: a 3.5-liter straight-six engine, a five-speed manual, and rear-wheel drive. With 282 horsepower and 251 lb-ft of torque, it was capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.5 seconds. The M88/3 inline-six differed only slightly from the one used in the mid-engined M1. This 1988 example has covered under 10,000 miles since new and is finished in black with a Natur leather interior. Originally delivered to Niello BMW of Sacramento, it spent later years in Arizona and Ohio. The near-flawless interior features the classic angled BMW center console, and is equipped with air conditioning, power windows, and power seats. 1988 BMW M5 Hagerty View the 7 images of this gallery on the original article “This 1988 BMW M5 was sourced directly from the Enthusiast Auto Group private collection,” said the selling dealer. “It is a single‑owner, all‑original, bone‑stock example showing just over 9,000 miles. This car represents the absolute pinnacle of E28 M5 preservation and has long been rumored to be the lowest‑mile, best‑preserved M5 of its kind anywhere. A true three‑pedal legend and a crown jewel for any BMW Motorsport enthusiast.” Extensive Maintenance and Refurbishment History Hagerty According to the listing, this M5 was previously part of the Enthusiast Auto Group private collection, where $50,000 was spent on it. In March 2020, the following work was done: Belts replacedValve adjustmentDriveshaft flex disc replacedNew water pumpNew front strut inserts and rear shocksBrake calipers and related components replacedWheels replacedA further $41,000 was spent in refurbishment work by Canepa in 2025. Here, both the interior and exterior underwent refurbishment and sheet metal in the battery area in the trunk was repaired. Various fluids, the heater valve, and exhaust components were also replaced or repaired at this time. All told, this M5 is ready to be enjoyed—whether standing in a climate-controlled garage or on the road. What It Means Hagerty The all-new BMW M5 couldn’t be more different from the original E28. It’s now a turbocharged V8 plug-in hybrid, sends power to all wheels, and only comes in automatic. It’s a world apart in technology, speed, and luxury, but long gone is the simplicity of the original. As cars become ever more complex and more software-reliant, analog machines like the E28 M5 are gaining appreciation from enthusiasts. A pure driving experience as offered by the first M5 is near-impossible to find in a new sports sedan, and it represents the beginnings of the successful M division. Add in the fact that only 1,340 units made it to North America, and it becomes easier to understand why this M5 nearly hit $200,000. View the full article

The Corvette Grand Sport’s Nostalgic Return Comes to New York
The Grand Sport is BackThe first Corvette Grand Sport debuted in 1963 as a homologation special intended to compete in international grand touring racing. Sadly, it wasn't meant to be as GM executives discovered the secret project and ordered those involved to drop it. If it's any consolation, five were built, and all survive to this day. It would take decades before Chevrolet would build it for real, and it finally came into fruition in 1996 with the C4 Corvette. The C5 wasn't blessed with the Grand Sport treatment, but the C6 and C7 were. Now, it's the turn of the mid-engined C8 to get those stripes. Adam Lynton/Autoblog Live in New YorkThe C8 Corvette Grand Sport has just made its public premiere at the 2026 New York International Auto Show. Chevrolet calls it the final chapter of the C8 story as the company prepares for the C9 generation. There's also a Grand Sport X version that effectively replaces the E-Ray, mainly because customers kept thinking it was an electric model. So, how is it in the metal? Like any Corvette Grand Sport, the C8 version is draped in blue, just like past models, and it features those distinct red stripes. That said, you can get it in other colors, but we reckon blue is the way to go with these. Also, those stripes are no longer at the front. Why, you ask? Well, the C8's engine is in the middle, hence the relocation of those markers. A neat touch, if you ask us. As for the interior, the car sitting in New York right now comes with a red cabin. There are, however, more color combinations possible, along with a Launch Edition version that features a Santorini Blue Dipped interior with embossed headrest logos and a waterfall badge interior plaque. Adam Lynton/Autoblog Beyond the LookOf course, the Grand Sport and Grand Sport X aren't just appearance packages. For starters, there's the new 6.7L LS6 V8 engine producing 535 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque. Opt for the Grand Sport X and the electric-assisted cranks that bump it up to 721 hp, further aided by all-wheel drive. It's no ZR1X, but there's still plenty of shove available for both. Think of the new Grand Sport and Grand Sport X as previews of sorts for the next-gen 'Vette. The new powertrains will likely be further developed for the C9 model and might even deliver more power by the time that model arrives. While it's a little too early to celebrate the C8's last hurrah, we're pleased that the Grand Sport has returned nonetheless. Mazda Says the New 6e Isn’t Really a Mazda6
From 6 to 6eDespite its age, the Mazda6 remained a competitive midsize sedan until it was pulled from the U.S. market in 2022. Some markets still have it, although that car has practically been on life support for years. It's still hanging in there, but we're not expecting it to hang around for much longer. That said, Mazda has a new midsize sedan in the form of the 6e. Also known as the EZ-6, it has the name, the proportions, and some of the look of the 6. Mind you, it's really more of a Mazda-badged product, as it's a mildly tweaked Deepal L07 from Chinese automaker Changan. The question now is, is it really a Mazda? Mazda A Mazda Exec Weighs inVinesh Bhindi is the boss of Mazda Australia, and he recently spoke to Drive regarding that matter. According to the company's research, Bhindi said that the 6e is "not a direct replacement from Mazda 6 to this." Well, that was refreshingly honest. That's not to say it's not a true Mazda product. After all, the car was jointly developed with the automaker's partner in China, so there is some of the Hiroshima-based company's input in there. Bhindi admits there have been challenges in convincing customers about the 6e in Australia, mainly because it's EV-only there (there's an REEV in China). From what we've gathered, it seems the Mazda 6 faithful are still trying to wrap their heads around the idea of an electric midsize sedan in the lineup. It's either they take the leap and go EV power or begrudgingly shop elsewhere. In response to that, Mazda hopes its new 6e will attract new customers and win over those who've opted not to buy it. "I think we will resonate with that customer base well, but also, there are new generations of customers who are probably more excited about the EV powertrain, but also the technology that comes with it would be of more importance as opposed to what that body size is," said Bhindi. Mazda Media UK Will There Be a True Mazda6 Successor?Truth be told, it's hard to determine that right now. Midsize sedans from non-luxury automakers aren't exactly hot anymore, and just a few markets still buy these types of cars. The U.S. and Canada are still relatively good markets for these, as are China and the Middle East. It's not like Mazda can sell the 6e stateside due to prohibitive tariffs. If anything, it has a better chance of coming to Canada instead. There isn't much incentive for Mazda to build a midsize sedan from scratch at this point, unless the Mazda6 takes on an entirely different, possibly more upmarket direction. It can use the same platform as the CX-60 and CX-90 as a starting point, but the bigger question is whether people will actually buy it. Remember, just because people say they like it, it doesn't mean they'll actually buy it. Mazda can make it as good as it can possibly be, win over reviewers and punters, and still not translate its praise into sales, as proven 30 years ago by the impressive but ultimately ill-fated Mazda 929. Volkswagen Is Finally Bringing Hybrids to Its Biggest SUVs
A Familiar SUV, Now With an Electrified FutureVolkswagen just pulled the covers off the all-new 2027 Atlas at the New York Auto Show, putting it right back into the thick of the three-row SUV battle. It’s still going up against the Ford Explorer and Kia Telluride, but this time, VW seems to have a clearer plan for where the Atlas is headed. For now, the Atlas keeps its updated turbo 2.0-liter engine with 282 horsepower. The bigger changes are in the details. The design is crisper but still familiar, and the cabin finally feels like a real upgrade – better materials, more ambient lighting, and a bigger infotainment screen all stand out. But what really matters isn’t what’s in showrooms right now. Volkswagen already confirmed a hybrid Atlas is coming as part of a mid-cycle update. That alone would help keep the Atlas in the game, but VW is going further than just one electrified version. Adam Lynton / Autoblog Three Hybrids, One StrategyVolkswagen’s US boss, Kjell Gruner, told us that the Atlas Hybrid is just the start. The same hybrid setup will show up in two more models: the Atlas Cross Sport and the Tiguan. “It’s going to be a full hybrid, for the Tiguan as well as the Atlas and the Cross Sport,” Gruner told Autoblog in a rountable discussion, laying out a three-model rollout. That first bit is pretty important because VW isn’t going the plug-in hybrid route, which we saw with the global version of the Tiguan. It’s sticking with regular hybrids, mainly because they’re lighter, less expensive, and there just isn’t much demand for PHEVs in the US. The idea is to make electrified SUVs more accessible to more buyers. Even better, VW is building this hybrid system specifically for the US, so it’s not just a quick swap from its global lineup. It needs local engineering and production, right down to the batteries and transmissions. Adam Lynton / Autoblog Maybe a Little Too Late?Don’t expect to see the Atlas Hybrid anytime soon. Right now, it looks like it’ll show up closer to 2029, with the Atlas Cross Sport and Tiguan hybrids arriving around the same time and sharing most of the same tech. When it finally lands, the Atlas Hybrid will focus on efficiency and everyday usability, not raw performance. That puts it in the same camp as hybrid rivals from Toyota, Hyundai, and Kia, who already have a head start in this segment. For now, the regular Atlas holds down the fort with small but useful upgrades. It still rides on the updated MQB Evo platform, keeps its 5,000-pound towing rating, and adds more family-friendly features. The interior is where you’ll notice the biggest leap, which should help it get noticed in a crowded market. The wait for a hybrid could be a problem, since rivals already have electrified options on sale. VW is playing catch-up here. The good news is that when its hybrid system finally arrives, it’ll power three important SUVs at once, giving Volkswagen a much more unified electrification plan. Winter Storm Warning: 6-12 Inches of Snow & 35 MPH Winds Threaten Highways Across Dakotas & Minnesota
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect across the Dakotas and northern Minnesota as back-to-back late-season systems line up to hammer the Northern Plains through Easter weekend. The National Weather Service offices in Bismarck, Aberdeen, and Grand Forks have all issued Watches ahead of a second, more powerful storm arriving Friday, and conditions from the first system are already creating hazardous travel across the region today. What to ExpectThe first storm is moving through the Northern Plains now, producing 2 to 5 inches of snow across central and southeast North Dakota and 5 to 7 inches in north-central South Dakota, with wind gusts up to 35 mph generating areas of blowing snow and sudden reductions in visibility. The NWS Bismarck office warned that falling and blowing snow will cause rapid drops in visibility, particularly on rural roads prone to drifting. The second system is the one forecasters are watching more closely. It arrives Friday and will intensify through Saturday, with the NWS Bismarck office forecasting 6 to 12 inches of snow across central North Dakota, including Burleigh, Stutsman, and Emmons counties. The NWS Aberdeen office is calling for 8 to 11 inches in north-central South Dakota and 6 to 9 inches across Brown, Marshall, and Roberts counties, extending into Traverse County, Minnesota. Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph will combine with heavy snowfall to produce periods of whiteout driving conditions. The Weather Prediction Center's extended forecast discussion flagged this second system specifically, noting that heavy snows in excess of 6 inches are possible from northern South Dakota into much of North Dakota and across northern Minnesota. Combined totals from both storms could exceed a foot in parts of the eastern Dakotas and northern Minnesota. Road ConditionsThe combination of back-to-back systems means road surfaces across the region will see little recovery time between rounds. Snow from the first storm will compact and refreeze overnight before the second system arrives, layering fresh accumulation on top of already compromised surfaces. The I-94 corridor through Bismarck and Jamestown, the I-29 corridor through Fargo, and I-90 across South Dakota are all at risk for extended periods of hazardous driving through Saturday. Rural secondary roads in the Watch zones are likely to see drifting that reduces them to single-lane or impassable conditions, and the NWS is urging drivers to allow extra travel time, keep emergency supplies in their vehicles, and avoid travel altogether during peak accumulation windows. For the latest road conditions, drivers can call 511 or visit 511mn.org in Minnesota and 511 in North Dakota and South Dakota. Need New Tires? Easter Weekend Travel ImpactThis is a particularly disruptive setup for holiday travelers. Easter weekend falls on April 5-6, and the second storm's heaviest snow is forecast to fall Friday into Saturday, landing squarely on what would normally be the peak travel window. Temperatures across the region had been running well above average earlier this week, with highs in the 50s and 60s across the Dakotas and Minnesota, making this late-season reversal even more jarring. Conditions are expected to improve by Sunday, but refreezing overnight Saturday into Easter morning could leave residual ice on road surfaces, particularly on bridges and overpasses along the interstate corridors. Winter Driving TipsIf you are driving into the Watch zones this week, your tires are the single most important variable. All-wheel drive will help you get moving on snow-covered roads, but it does nothing to reduce stopping distance on ice, a point worth keeping in mind on any bridge or overpass along I-94 or I-29 where black ice can form without warning. Autoblog's winter car readiness checklist recommends a minimum of 4/32 inches of tread depth for safe winter driving, and cold temperatures will drop tire pressure by roughly 1 to 2 PSI for every 10 degrees, so check your pressures before you leave. Give yourself at least triple the stopping distance you would use on dry pavement. If this storm is a reminder that your vehicle still is not set up for winter, Autoblog's full breakdown of the best cars and SUVs for snow and winter driving is worth a read, and our guide to best practices for driving in snow and ice covers everything from skid recovery to what to keep in your trunk for emergencies. TimingThe first system clears the region Thursday evening, with a brief break overnight before the second storm arrives Friday afternoon and intensifies through Saturday. The heaviest accumulations from the second system are expected Friday night into Saturday morning. Conditions should begin improving late Saturday, but refreezing overnight into Easter Sunday means hazardous conditions may linger into the holiday morning. View the full article
