  1. Toyota’s all-electric Hilux will go on sale in Australia next month, marking the first time the battery-powered pickup is available outside Thailand, its home market. That gives us an idea of how much the first-ever electric Hilux costs, and it’s not exactly cheap. Prices start from $74,990 Australian dollars, which is the equivalent of around $52,000 US, plus on-road costs. Market-specific conditions aside, that’s quite a lot for a mid-size truck, even an all-electric one; at least it's well-equipped. The Hilux BEV will be available in two trim levels in Australia—SR and SR5—and both will only come with a dual-motor AWD powertrain. The base price is for the SR chassis double-cab version, which means that the cheapest Hilux BEV pickup is the SR double-cab version priced from AUD $76,490 (US $53,050). As for the range-topping SR5 double-cab pickup, it is priced from AUD $82,990, which is roughly $57,600 in US currency. Dual-Motor AWD With 193 HP, Up to 196 Miles of Range NEDC Toyota Australia So what do Australian customers get for the money? For starters, the battery-electric powertrain, which is shared across all variants, consists of a 59.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack and dual-motor AWD system. The latter includes a front motor rated at 82 kW (110 hp) and 206 Nm (152 lb-ft) of torque, plus a more powerful rear motor that delivers 192 kW (257 hp) and 269 Nm (198 lb-ft) of torque. Mind you, the combined system output is 144 kW (193 hp), with torque distribution variably controlled between the front and rear axles during on-road driving to provide high-traction full-time AWD. When going off-road, the Toyota Multi-Terrain Select traction control system offers six different drive modes that adjust the amount of wheel slip to suit the driving conditions and keep the vehicle moving in low-grip situations. Toyota Australia The maximum driving range is 196 miles for the pickup variants and 152 miles for the chassis-cab version. The figures are calculated using the outdated NEDC test cycle, which is known to exaggerate range by up to 30%—this explains why the European-spec Hilux BEV has a maximum range of 149 miles on the more realistic WLTP cycle. The battery can be replenished from 10 to 80% in as little as 30 minutes thanks to 150kW CCS2 DC charging capability, while the maximum three-phase AC charging capacity is 10kW, enabling customers to charge from 10 to 100% in about 6.5 hours. While the Hilux BEV shares the body-on-frame design with the diesel versions, it does have some modifications to accommodate the battery-electric powertrain. Those include a unique suspension system with frame reinforcements, beefed-up MacPherson strut front suspension and a De-dion rear leaf spring setup that integrates the rear electric motor while retaining the live axle setup. Ventilated disc brakes are also part of the package. The HiLux BEV offers a maximum braked towing capacity of 4,409 lbs in Australia in double cab-chassis guise. Well-Equipped SR Base Grade, Upmarket SR5 Toyota Australia Equipment-wise, the Toyota Hilux BEV SR grade features a closed-off upper front grille, aero-enhanced 17-inch alloys, LED headlights with manual leveling, body-color front bumper, side mirror caps, and door handles, as well as a shark fin antenna and side steps. Inside, the most affordable Hilux BEV grade gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen multimedia system paired with a 12.3-inch digital cluster, and a four-speaker sound system. The infotainment system also offers embedded satellite navigation, and voice commands, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, DAB+ digital radio, and a pair of USB-C ports in the front and rear. Hilux BEV SR customers also get a fabric upholstery, all-weather floor mats, dual-zone automatic climate control, power windows, smart entry and start, and a 1500W inverter in the center console box that can power small appliances. Toyota Australia As for the SR5 top grade, it adds exterior upgrades like LED headlamps with auto-leveling, LED fog lamps and taillights, power folding and heated side mirrors, rear privacy glass and painted hood moulding and radiator lower grille. The cabin is more luxurious courtesy of a leather-accented upholstery, heated front seats with powered driver’s adjustment and two-way lumbar support, heated steering wheel, electrochromatic rearview mirror, carpeted floor, eight-speaker audio system, and wireless phone charger, among other things. All models get the Toyota Safety Sense active safety suite including Pre-Collision System autonomous emergency braking, dynamic radar cruise control, lane trace assist, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking support brake (pickup only), road sign assist, and automatic high beam. A panoramic view monitor, front and rear parking sensors (pickup only), tyre pressure monitor, and eight SRS airbags are also standard on all grades. View the full article
  2. The Defender 90 You Think You Know, ReinventedThe Land Rover Defender 90 built its reputation on durability and function. It was engineered to go anywhere and fix easily. Its design favored utility over comfort. That formula made it an icon across continents and industries. That makes the Defender 2.8i such an unusual chapter. During BMW’s ownership of Land Rover, a South African program introduced a radical change. Instead of a diesel, engineers installed a gasoline inline-six. It shifted the Defender’s identity. It became quicker, smoother, and more road-friendly without losing its off-road ability. Barrett-Jackson View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article A BMW Heart in a British IconThe defining feature is the BMW M52 engine. This 2.8-liter twin-cam unit produces 190 horsepower and 213 lb-ft of torque. It revs freely to 6,000 rpm. That is a major departure from the low-revving diesel engines typical of the Defender. Performance improved across the board. The 0–60 mph run drops to around 9.1 seconds. Power delivery is linear and refined. It pairs with a 5-speed manual and full-time four-wheel drive. The result is a Defender that feels more composed on-road while remaining capable off-road. Production remained limited. Only 656 Defender 90 units received this setup. That rarity defines its appeal today. Barrett-Jackson View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article Barrett-Jackson Auction SpotlightThis 2000 Defender 90 heads to auction at Barrett-Jackson with extensive updates. It underwent a frame-on restoration. The M52 engine was fully overhauled. That indicates recent mechanical work and attention to longevity. The build leans into a restomod direction. LED lighting replaces all factory units, including the headlights. Custom bumpers and a revised grille reshape the front end. The gray and black finish gives it a modern, subdued look. It rides on black wheels with wide, low-profile tires that favor road presence over trail compliance. The interior reflects the same philosophy. It features black leather bucket seats with diamond stitching. The rear compartment adds four folding seats. The dashboard is leather-wrapped but retains the original gauge cluster with brass rings. Modern touches include Bluetooth audio and tinted glass. It is a blend of heritage and convenience. No price has been set, but a similar generation, diesel-powered model had an $87,000 asking price. Barrett-Jackson View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article The LowdownThis is where interpretation matters. The Defender 2.8i is already a rare factory configuration. Collectors often value originality above all else. Heavy customization shifts that equation. It introduces subjectivity into what is otherwise a highly defined collector asset. The recent engine overhaul raises questions. It could be part of a standard restoration cycle. It could also point to prior mechanical issues. Another possibility is that the engine is not original to the chassis, despite the correct specification. The level of modification could even suggest a past incident that required rebuilding. There is also a simpler explanation. The owner may have completed the build and decided to exit. Regardless of the reason, this Defender sits at an intersection. It is part rare factory special, part personalized restomod. Buyers will need to decide which side of that equation matters more. 3. Hyundai decided to do things the old-fashioned way at this year’s New York International Auto Show. It’s become the industry norm to provide journalists advanced embargo news releases allowing them to prep stories ahead of time. But Hyundai left everyone guessing until it lifted the covers at its Wednesday morning press conference at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. Hyundai Boulder Concept Adam Lynton / Autoblog View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article And that led to a collective gasp as we scribes got a first look at the Hyundai Boulder concept vehicle. Think of it as a slightly less radical take on a midsize off-road SUV than the Crater concept Hyundai unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show last November. Hyundai View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article Where Crater was a fantasy in chrome, Boulder is just a few wiggles of a designer’s pen short of the real off-roader Hyundai plans to launch before the end of the decade, the automaker’s President and CEO Jose Munoz told Autoblog after the reveal. More significantly, it will be one of a number of products the Korean carmaker plans to build off a new, body-on-frame platform it’s developing – a list that Munoz said will include a midsize pickup. Hyundai What’s NewHyundai has come a long way since it entered the U.S. market 40 years ago. It’s now the world’s third-largest automaker and is growing rapidly in the American market where it’s aiming to score its sixth consecutive year of record sales in 2026. But it’s far from sanguine, Munoz outlining big growth plans set to see the Hyundai and high-line Genesis brands roll out 58 new or significantly updated products worldwide by 2030. Hyundai That will see it enter a number of new segments, notably with products based on the new body-on-frame platform, the first for the Korean automaker. Munoz stressed that these heavy-duty models will be designed in the U.S. and assembled here using steel from the new mill the group is setting up in Louisiana. Adam Lynton / Autoblog Only a few details about Boulder were revealed during the NY news conference. Among other things, it rides on 37-inch wheels and has substantial ground clearance. Though Hyundai officials didn’t talk about competitors during the event, officials who spoke to Autoblog suggested the production SUV will go up against products like the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee models. Hyundai View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article “Highly Competitive”“We know it’s a highly competitive space and we’re not taking it lightly,” said Randy Parker, CEO of the Hyundai brand in the U.S. While Boulder is now confirmed as an upcoming addition to the brand’s line-up, Parker said the addition of the underlying body-on-frame platform “opens doors to many (other) possibilities.” Achieving that level of capabilities, stressed Parker, requires going with a body-on-frame approach. The challenge has been to minimize the downsides, such as weight and mass – and the penalties on fuel economy, Adam Lynton / Autoblog There are a number of engineering – and marketing – issues to address before a production Boulder reaches showrooms. Among other things, confided Munoz, that includes powertrain options. “We’re very flexible,” he said in an interview. “It’s a cornerstone of our strategy.” The final product is highly likely to offer multiple options, drawing from Hyundai’s deep shelf. That includes internal combustion, conventional or plug-in hybrid, all-electric and new range-extending technologies. Hyundai View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article More to ComeHow many products will be based off the new platform beyond Boulder? “More to come,” hinted Sang-Yup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of the Hyundai and Genesis Global Design Center. “It’s not difficult to think of a family of body-on-frame vehicles. And that family would extend beyond the Hyundai brand, senior company insiders made clear, several asking to remain on background, not having official permission to discuss future product plans. There’s an internal push-and-shove between the brands, apparently, to see who actually will get the new platform first. Kia actually would like to go first, one executive said, noting it actually had plenty of experience with body-on-frame designs before its bigger sibling acquired control of the brand in 1998. Adam Lynton / Autoblog For his part, Genesis product planning chief Ash Corson wouldn’t wade into that debate. But he did say that “For a luxury customer, (body-on-frame products) make sense.” The reality is we’re likely to see the new platform show up underpinning a variety of new models from the broader Hyundai Motor Group by decade’s end. The Hyundai Boulder will be just one of them. View the full article
  4. Seeing the Genesis G90 Wingback Concept in person at the 2026 New York Auto Show makes one thing clear: Genesis is done playing nice, and they're ready to push the envelope. Genesis unveiled the Wingback Concept back in December, 2025, and we thought that'd be the last we'd see of it. Fortunately, we were wrong. It still carries the DNA of the flagship Genesis G90 luxury sedan, but the proportions of an estate car, and surprising performance potential. Finished in a deep green shade, the example on display had a presence that photos can't do justice to – beautiful doesn't even describe half of it. A Genesis G90 Station Wagon Adam Lynton/Autoblog Adam Lynton/Autoblog Adam Lynton/Autoblog The standard G90 already competes with heavyweights like the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but the Wingback takes a different route. Despite its body style making you believe it's the length of a yacht, it's slightly shorter than its sedan counterpart, coming in at 5.1 metres. That makes it just 4 millimeters shorter than the BMW M5 Touring. In person, you get to appreciate how low and wide the Wingback sits with its flared fenders that house 22-inch wheels. The entire front end is reworked, sporting a much more assertive aesthetic with a smaller, yet deeper Crest Grille, larger air intakes, and some gloss black aero pieces. Of course, at the back is where the real magic is. The sedan’s boot is replaced by a full tailgate and a steeply raked rear window, framed by a twin-spoiler setup. It sounds tacky on paper, but somehow it works. Even the vertically stacked quad exhaust tips feel surprisingly well integrated with the gnarly diffuser. Magma Performance DNA Adam Lynton/Autoblog Adam Lynton/Autoblog Adam Lynton/Autoblog Genesis hasn’t confirmed exact performance figures, but the Wingback sits under the brand’s growing Magma performance umbrella, alongside the Genesis GV60 Magma. But we can make an educated guess. The current G90’s twin-turbo V6 options produce up to 409 hp, but a Magma-badged model would likely need more to match its intent. With reports of a 600-hp V8-powered GV70 Magma on the way, it’s not unrealistic to imagine the Wingback eventually adopting a similar setup. Of course, it'll also come equipped with a long list of expected performance hardware like mighty brakes, stiffer suspension, and, of course, a reimagined interior. Thus far, Genesis has confirmed the cabin will keep its luxury-first approach, but benefit from quilted suede-like materials with green contrast stitching and Magma-specific detailing. A Niche Idea That Makes Sense Adam Lynton/Autoblog Adam Lynton/Autoblog Adam Lynton/Autoblog Although the current market prefers SUVs over everything else, there is still a demand for station wagons in the US, even luxurious, performance wagons like the G90 Wingback. It's especially clear when you consider the cult-like following estates like the Audi RS6 have. Seeing one in person just reaffirmed what we were expecting: The G90 Wingback Concept is drop-dead gorgeous, and Genesis isn't holding back. The performance estate segment may have a new Korean entrant on the way, and the underdog may give European carmakers something to worry about. View the full article
  5. The most powerful production Subaru ever has arrived as the 2027 Subaru Getaway, a three-row electric SUV that shares its underpinnings with the Toyota Highlander EV. But while the Toyota produces 388 horsepower, Subaru's take on the electric family SUV puts out an impressive 420 hp. That power goes to all four corners (19-inch wheels in front and 20s at the back) through a dual-motor setup, regardless of trim, and enables 0-60 mph in under five seconds. It also allows the Getaway to tow up to 3,500 lbs, and when the 95.8 kWh battery is depleted, a standard NACS-compatible charging port can refill it at up to 150 kW, enough to go from 10-80 percent in around 30 minutes. When full, Subaru claims over 300 miles of range on a single charge. Subaru 2027 Subaru Getaway: Seven Seats, Plenty of Space Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Subaru says it chose this name to "highlight the SUV's family-friendly versatility and utility," and with seven seats and 8.3 inches of ground clearance (plus Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with X-Mode), it should be a decent companion for adventures. Of course, not everyone needs that many seats, so while the Getaway can be had with a second-row bench seat, the standard configuration has captain's chairs in the second row. Either way, the area behind the third row delivers 15.9 cubic feet of cargo volume. Subaru says six-footers will fit in any row comfortably, and when that space is needed to carry cargo, the second-row seats fold at the touch of a button. Fold the third row and keep the second row in place, and Subaru boasts that you get more space than in a Kia EV9 (one of the best vehicles in this segment), with 45.6 cubes behind the captain's chairs or bench. Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article All seats get cup and bottle holders alongside USB-C charging ports, and the three-zone climate control has dedicated third-row vents to keep everyone comfortable. Speaking of, Subaru provides heated front seats as standard, while some trims will also get heated second- and third-row seats and ventilated front and second-row seats, along with a heated steering wheel. The SUV should also feel spacious, thanks to the availability of a fixed panoramic sunroof. 2027 Subaru Getaway Tech Adam Lynton/Autoblog View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article Up front, a 14-inch touchscreen is accompanied by a 12.3-inch driver cluster and brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A pair of wireless smartphone chargers is also available, and the Getaway offers customizable ambient lighting. As usual, Subaru's EyeSight driver aids are included, with pre-collision braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, emergency stop assist, lane-change assist, adaptive cruise control, and more. Because the SUV is so long, it also makes sense to include a digital rearview mirror, though this won't be available on every trim. Subaru's fourth EV (following the Solterra, Uncharted, and Trailseeker) arrives at the end of 2026, and in 2027, a standard-range version with a smaller 77 kWh battery will arrive. As with most new cars revealed in New York this week, more specific details, trim levels, and pricing will follow closer to the launch. 7. Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving the Corolla Cross Hybrid crossover in North America. Approximately 74,000 of these vehicles are in the U.S., which excludes non-hybrid models. The problem is linked to the vehicle alert system in affected Corolla Cross Hybrid models, which could increase the risk of a crash with a pedestrian. It’s a similar issue to what Chevrolet experienced with the Equinox EV last year, whereby the silent running of these electrified vehicles poses a safety hazard. Related: 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Trims Explained. Which One is the Smart Buy? Corolla Cross Hybrid Recall Detailed 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Toyota View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article The Toyota recall affects certain 2023-2025 Corolla Cross Hybrid models. When operated in reverse, these crossovers may rely solely on the electric motor, making them difficult for pedestrians to hear. The vehicle alert system is designed to compensate for this, but Toyota has identified an issue where the system could be hard to hear in certain conditions. This violates a federal safety standard, although Toyota didn’t mention that any accidents or injuries have occurred. Toyota will notify affected customers by late-May 2026, and dealers will update the relevant software, free of charge. Toyota The Corolla Cross Hybrid is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motor, combining for 196 horsepower. It’s more efficient and powerful than the standard non-hybrid model, but the powertrain complexity has led to more recalls, including a previous one for an inverter bolt issue. Although Toyota didn’t specify the “specific conditions” where the alert system isn’t effective, acoustic tests run on EVs in 2025 found that the typical two-tone notes used by EVs are only effective in quiet environments. In noisier environments or where more than one EV’s alert was active, subjects took longer to identify the car and sometimes misplaced the sound. It could be that Toyota has identified a similar issue with the Corolla Cross. In the same study, it was found that gas-powered cars remained easier to accurately identify. Related: Toyota Recalls 55,000 Camry And Corolla Cross Hybrids Over Fire Risk What Owners Should Do Now Toyota If you drive a Corolla Cross Hybrid, the best piece of advice is to exercise greater caution when reversing, as pedestrians may not be able to hear your vehicle. Checking blind spots and making use of the rearview camera are strongly advised, until the car can be checked by a dealer. You can also use your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to find out if your car is involved in the recall via either the Toyota or NHTSA websites. Alternatively, you can call the Toyota Brand Engagement Center for more information on 1-800-331-4331. View the full article
  8. Walking the Ferrari TightropeThroughout the years, Ferrari has released some of the most iconic cars in automotive history, and it would be a crime to leave out the F40. So when Mike Burroughs of StanceWorks announced in 2024 that the shop would take on an F40-based project called the F40 EVO, many wondered whether it might draw the automaker’s attention, given its reputation for blocking customers whose actions could undermine its brand image. That concern grew further after Ferrari sent StanceWorks a letter, which Burroughs later posted on Instagram, though the full contents were not disclosed. According to The Drive, however, that was not the issue at all. The publication reported, citing a private exchange with Burroughs and a video from his Patreon, that Ferrari had actually sent a cease-and-desist over StanceWorks’ posters and desk mats featuring the Prancing Horse logo. Clearing Up the ConfusionThat said, Ferrari likely saw the F40 EVO project and chose not to act on it. Burroughs also built a Ferrari 308 swapped with a Honda K24 engine, and that project drew no public response from the automaker either. In fact, Burroughs said Ferrari’s lawyers told him they could not stop him from modifying the cars, but wanted him to make clear to his audience that using modified parts carries risks, both in terms of technical issues and potential impact on the car’s value. “Let this dispel the myth that you can’t modify your car,” Burroughs said. “There you go, myth dispelled.” That may come as a surprise to some, especially since even renowned tuner TJ Hunt previously said he was unsure whether the automaker would take issue with his road-going 488 build made with genuine GT3 Evo parts. @mike_stanceworks/Instagram A Ground-Up ApproachIt is worth noting, however, that the F40 EVO project is not actually based on a factory F40. That would have been far more expensive, as the model – introduced in 1987 to mark Ferrari’s 40th anniversary – typically trades for around $3 million. Instead, Burroughs used several F40 parts, including the front end, doors, and roof, and mounted them to a custom tube chassis. Power comes from a V12 sourced from an 812 Superfast with just over 600 miles, rather than the twin-turbo V8 found in the original F40. With Burroughs playing into the Ferrari blacklist narrative, it is possible the move was partly meant to generate buzz online, though only he knows that for certain. Still, enthusiasts may take away something else from the project: it appears possible to source real F40 parts and build something inspired by the icon without paying full F40 money. @mike_stanceworks/Instagram View the full article

  10. Looks Like a Model YThe Tesla Model Y L is an evolution of Tesla’s most popular car, stretched and modified to accommodate six passengers. Initially a China-exclusive, it's now available throughout Asia and Oceania, and I was given a chance to check it out. It’s not an entirely new car, but rather a strategic extension of an already successful model, one that fixes the biggest problem with the standard Model Y: space. The car has been modified behind the B-pillar. The stretched wheelbase and body allow for a proper third row and a more spacious interior, while retaining the familiar Model Y design. Visually, it’s closer to the Model Y than the soon-to-be-defunct Model X, but functionally, it bridges the gap between the two. Autoblog / LeRoy Marion View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article With Specs Like a Model YThe car features Tesla’s dual-motor AWD setup, producing 450-500 horsepower and about 435 lb-ft of torque. It’s quick, but not too quick, taking 0-60 in about 5.0 seconds. It’s quick enough to feel like a Tesla, but not quick enough to suggest Tesla was trying to make a performance car. The car’s dimensions make it the biggest differentiator. The wheelbase measures about 5.9 inches, and the car itself is about 7 inches longer. It’s bigger than the standard Model Y but not quite large enough to match the Model X in footprint, and significantly lighter and more efficient. The car has an estimated range of up to 423 miles under WLTP testing, which should realistically mean about 300 miles under EPA testing, closer to the standard Model Y than the heavier, more power-hungry Model X. Autoblog / LeRoy Marion View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article Drives Like a Model YOn the road, the Model Y L feels like a more mature version of the standard Model Y. The extra length helps smooth out the ride and gives it a more composed, less responsive feel on imperfect roads. It’s inside where the difference is most marked, however. In this version, with its 2-2-2 seating and second-row captain’s chairs, the interior feels properly resolved. Access to the third row is easier, and while it’s still not as spacious as a full-size SUV, it’s a heck of a lot more usable than before. Compared to the outgoing Model X, there’s a bit less width and luxury, but there’s a lot more sense and simplicity in its packaging, which feels less over-the-top and more practical. Autoblog / LeRoy Marion View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article It IS a Model Y—Just StretchedThe Model Y L is a car that doesn’t try to replace either the standard Tesla Model Y or the Tesla Model X, but instead to redefine the space between them. It has the efficiency, simplicity, and driving character of the Model Y, but addresses many of the everyday usability issues that led people to look to larger, more expensive alternatives. At $46,723 in the Philippines (converted), the Model Y L sits close to the standard Model Y’s typical U.S. starting price in the mid-$40,000 range. If priced similarly in the U.S., it could offer significantly more space and seating for only a modest premium. The standard Model Y still makes sense if you don’t need a third row, but in this version, there’s a lot less reason to choose the standard Y over the Model Y L if you need to ferry more people. 12. Built Tough, Wired WrongToyota debuted the next-generation Hilux late last year with several updates, including a switch to electric power steering (EPS), which enables lighter low-speed operation while supporting more advanced driver-assistance features. Just months later, the model is being recalled due to an issue linked to the EPS system. According to Toyota Australia, approximately 13,390 ninth-gen Hilux units fitted with a Toyota Genuine Accessory bull bar or nudge bar with a light bar may have an incorrectly installed wiring harness. The defect can compromise the ground connection to the EPS module, potentially causing a loss of power steering assistance, especially at low speeds, and increasing the risk of a crash or injury. Toyota Australia A Lesson for Truck Owners EverywhereWhile the Hilux is no longer sold in the U.S. – with the Tacoma succeeding as Toyota’s midsize pickup offering starting in the 1995 model year – the issue still underscores a broader point: improperly installed aftermarket accessories, such as bull bars, can interfere with critical vehicle systems if not installed properly. As for the affected Hilux units, which were produced between August 28, 2025 and February 24, 2026, owners are being asked to bring them to a dealer for inspection and repair. Toyota said the work, which involves correcting the EPS ground terminal orientation, should take about 30 minutes, though it may take longer at busier dealerships. As with other safety campaigns, the repair will be carried out free of charge. Owners are advised that they may continue driving their pickup trucks in the meantime. Toyota The New Hilux Hits a BumpToyota Australia has already released the VIN range in its press release for the affected units sold in the Land Down Under, though the company noted that not all vehicles within that range were sold there. For context, the Hilux is sold in many global markets, including parts of Asia and Africa. One of the reasons it has long been absent from the U.S. is the so-called chicken tax, which imposes steep tariffs on imported light trucks. This truck continues to use a 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine, known as the 1GD-FTV, producing 201 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. A mild-hybrid version is also available, which adds a bit of boost and improves fuel efficiency. Even with that added assist, it still looks pretty tame next to the Tacoma’s i-Force Max hybrid, which comes in swinging with 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. 13. Oh, We Know It’s ComingIt has been a while since we last heard anything concrete about the returning Mitsubishi Pajero a.k.a Montero. Its comeback has already been acknowledged, as well as its name, but what’s been missing is a proper timeline. Thankfully, details from Down Under shed light on this gap. According to dealer sources cited by Carsales, the new Pajero is set to make its global debut sometime in the third quarter of 2026, likely around August or September. Pre-orders are expected to open shortly after, with some dealers already preparing for September order banks. MitsubishiMotorsTV/YouTube Deliveries Will Happen Much LaterExcited owners will have to wait before their Pajero arrives, though. Reports indicate the first deliveries are scheduled for December. Not every showroom in Australia will get stock at the same time, though, so some buyers might be waiting until early next year, depending on how the rollout goes. There was talk from one dealer about a slightly earlier reveal window, possibly June or July, but that hasn’t been widely supported. For now, late Q3 looks like the safest bet for the global reveal. The new Pajero is expected to ride on the same platform as the latest Mitsubishi Triton midsize truck, giving it a solid starting point for capability. However, one notable upgrade being floated is the adoption of an eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the Triton’s six-speed unit. If that pushes through, it should help with both refinement and efficiency. The Pajero’s off-road hardware is expected to carry over from the Triton as well, including Mitsubishi’s Super Select II four-wheel-drive system. Mitsubishi What We Know so FarOfficially, Mitsubishi has been keeping things fairly quiet about the Pajero. So far, reports point to localized suspension and steering tuning, especially in markets like Australia, where on-road dynamics matter just as much as off-road ability. Spy shots also revealed a squared-off body, even boxier than the Mitsubishi Destinator sold in Southeast Asia. What’s clear is the new Pajero isn’t just about bringing back a familiar badge. It’s jumping into a tough segment with plenty of rivals, so it’ll have to juggle durability, refinement, and up-to-date tech if it wants to stand out. More details should surface closer to its reveal window. For now, at least, the wait has a timeline attached to it. A US debut is still a mystery at this point, but with Mitsubishi’s current status in America, it could use the help of a venerable nameplate. 14. In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, Dodge has unveiled a special edition of the Durango known as the GT America250 (A250) Edition. Already the leading three-row SUV for sheer muscle—the Durango is the cheapest V8 SUV you can buy—the new A250 is available in V6 and V8 variants, while adding a host of patriotic visual flourishes. It aligns well with the automaker’s desire to lean into high-horsepower performance and its status as one of America’s oldest car brands. Related: Ram 1500 Celebrates 250 Years of America with New Special Editions High-End Exterior and Interior Finishes Stellantis The new A250 is the first production model to be shown to the public as part of Stellantis’ partnership with America250, a nonpartisan organization that will lead the commemoration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The new SUV features star-pattern dual stripes with blue tracer accents on its exterior; these U.S.-inspired stripes are only compatible with the White Knuckle exterior color. There are America250 fender decals and badging, and the special model sits on aggressive-looking 20-inch wheels with a Black Noise finish. Stellantis Inside, there are material upgrades typically found on pricier trims. These include Black Laguna leather upholstery with a blue perforation and an embossed flag on the seats. Accent stitching in red and white, along with a tricolor-stitched steering wheel, are also unique to this Durango anniversary model. The finishing touches include Demonic Red seat belts and forged carbon-fiber appliques. “This Dodge Durango A250 is a celebration of American performance, American attitude and fittingly, America’s 250th birthday,” said Matt McAlear, Dodge CEO. “Dodge has always stood for American muscle: speed, strength and the unapologetic pursuit of automotive excitement. Today, we celebrate that legacy and the road ahead.” Three Trim Levels and Two Engine Choices Stellantis The Dodge Durango GT A250 is available in three trim levels: Durango GT Plus AWDDurango GT Hemi Plus AWDDurango GT Hemi Premium AWDThe GT Plus uses the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which makes 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. On the Hemi models, the iconic 5.7-liter V8 with 360 hp and 390 lb-ft replaces the V6. Both engines are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Premium model adds extras like a Dinamica suede headliner, a hand-wrapped instrument panel, and a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system to the Plus model’s specification. Pricing for the A250 will start at $49,590 for the V6, increasing to $51,270 for the Hemi Plus A250 and $54,270 for the Hemi Premium A250. Orders for all three models open in early April. Why It Matters Stellantis The new Dodge Durangos may be little more than visual packages, but these models typically only hang around for a single model year, so have an exclusive edge in the used market. These America-inspired special editions also provide something a little more emotional than rational, keeping the Durango relevant in a market dominated by competent but often forgettable vehicles. Dodge’s SUV already had its best sales in 20 years in 2025, and exclusive additions like the A250 should keep fans coming back for more until an all-new generation of the model arrives. 15. Chrysler released images of the 2027 Pacifica in February, revealing a sharper look for the only competitive product the automaker has sold in years. But we’ve had to wait until today for the official unveiling of America’s favorite minivan—it outsold all rivals in 2025. With the launch of the 2027 Pacifica, the base LX model also takes the place of the Voyager, which was sold as a more affordable minivan for a limited time. Whether a refreshed Pacifica is enough to keep Chrysler afloat until the brand expands is up for debate, but the changes should be just enough to keep this minivan’s nose in front of rivals like the Toyota Sienna and Kia Carnival. Distinctive New Looks 2027 Chrysler Pacifica Limited AWD (L) and 2027 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle Stellantis View the 5 images of this gallery on the original article Although the profile remains instantly familiar, the 2027 Pacifica has a new face that has given it quite a futuristic air. On Select, Limited, and Pinnacle trims, there’s a new front fascia with vertical LED headlamps and an illuminated grille. These headlamps also have a 17% better maximum reach than the previous model’s. The Pacifica LX, previously the Voyager, keeps the previous front design. Although the front-end receives the most noticeable update, the following elements are also new: New Chrysler wing logo and rear liftgate appliqueNew exterior colors, including Olive GreenUpdated wheel lineup, with new 18- and 20-inch designs for the Limited and PinnacleNew height-adjustable power liftgate Stellantis The new Chrysler wing logo follows the brand’s 100th anniversary in 2025. It initially appeared on the 2022 Airflow and 2024 Halycon concepts, but the 2027 Pacifica marks the first time the new wing logo is found on a production Chrysler model. Although there’s nothing remarkable about the new look, the Pacifica succeeds in looking a bit sleeker than rivals like the Honda Odyssey. 2027 Pacifica Interior Updates 2027 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle Stellantis View the 5 images of this gallery on the original article At first glance, there’s less to get excited about inside the latest Pacifica, which largely retains the previous model’s layout and design. Most trims have seating for seven, but the Select can accommodate eight occupants. Chrysler’s Stow ‘n Go system is still in place, which makes it super easy to fold the rear seating rows into the floor when more cargo space is needed. Changes in the cabin amount to a few new design flourishes and a shuffling of features and packages. There’s a new Chrysler wing badge in Satin Chrome on the steering wheel, along with new interior accents. On the top-of-the-range Pinnacle, a new Blue Agave interior color with Cooper Alloy accents elevates the ambiance. 2027 Chrysler Pacifica Limited AWD featuring standard second- and third-row Stow ‘n Go seating Stellantis View the 6 images of this gallery on the original article The Safety Sphere Package has been improved with turn signal-activated blind-spot view and a ParkSense-based camera activation function. The Uconnect Theater Group and newly named Family Tech Group have been decoupled, allowing buyers to choose exactly the package they want. These upgrades include extras like Amazon Fire TV built-in, premium sound systems, and extra power outlets. Overall, it's as practical and user-friendly as we've come to expect from a modern minivan, but the Kia Carnival has even more impressive tech. Related: Chrysler Hints At New Sedan Unlike Anything You've Ever Seen Before Performance: Familiar V6 and Optional AWD Stellantis Power still comes from the same 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, which generates 287 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive being available on all trims besides the base LX. Regardless of the model, the Pacifica has a nine-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. The previously available plug-in hybrid Pacifica was discontinued earlier this year, as part of a broader strategic shift within Stellantis. That’s a pity, as you can get a much more efficient hybrid powertrain in rivals like the Toyota Sienna and Kia Carnival. However, unlike the Carnival, the Pacifica has the option of AWD. “Chrysler invented the minivan 43 years ago, and with more than 16.6 million sold, including more than 1.15 million Pacifica models, our leadership in this segment remains unmatched,” said Matt McAlear, Chrysler brand CEO. “This refreshed Pacifica builds on that momentum by delivering the perfect blend of new refreshed exterior design, new features, smarter technology with the beloved innovations our customers rely on.” Pricing: Not The Cheapest Minivan Stellantis The 2027 Chrysler Pacifica starts at $41,495, which is only $100 more than the outgoing Voyager. The Select trim begins at $44,545, also just $100 more than before. Right at the top of the lineup, the Pinnacle with AWD costs $58,255, which is actually $1,185 less than the 2026 equivalent. Here’s a look at full pricing for the 2027 Pacifica: Trim FWD AWD LX $41,495 N/A Select $44,545 $47,890 Limited $49,705 $53,050 Pinnacle $54,910 $58,255 All prices exclude a $1,995 destination charge and the 2027 Pacifica is available to order now. If you don’t need AWD, the 2026 Kia Carnival is quite a bit cheaper, with a base price of $37,390. The Toyota Sienna is also more affordable, starting at $40,420. Related: Inside Chrysler’s Radical Revival Plan: New Sedan and SRT Performance Models Coming Final ThoughtsChrysler has been hinting at a proper revival for some time now. Stylish concepts like the Airflow raised hopes that this would’ve happened by now, but we’re well into 2026 and the Pacifica is still the company’s sole model. The changes to the Pacifica are largely visual, and while they succeed in keeping it fresh, one wonders how long the company can survive without at least one crossover. After a strong 2025, the Pacifica is expected to continue selling well this year, but if you want a cheaper or more efficient minivan, it’s worth considering alternatives from Toyota and Kia. 17. Those looking for a compact crossover that can handle a bit of off-road effort and return strong fuel economy figures may want to take a look at the latest offering from Subaru, the 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid. It's the first Wilderness hybrid yet, and although Subaru's hasn't announced estimates EPA figures at this time, the automaker says it will deliver up to 25 percent better fuel economy. We expect the numbers to be similar to those of the U.S.-built 2026 Forester Hybrid AWD, which returns figures of 35/34/35 mpg on the city/highway/combined cycles. While we wait for Subaru to paint the full picture, let's take a look at what we do know so far. 2027 Subaru Forester Wilderness Hybrid: Subtle Changes Kyle Edward/Autoblog View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article Like the existing Subaru Forester Wilderness, the hybrid has 9.3 inches of ground clearance (plus approach, breakover, and departure angles of 23.5, 20.6, and 25.5 degrees, respectively), upgraded suspension, 17-inch matte black Wilderness wheels wrapped in all-terrain Yokohama Geolandar tires, and Subaru's famous symmetrical all-wheel-drive system with X-Mode and hill descent control. In the hybrid, the 2.5-liter boxer engine is supplemented by electric motors and a lithium-ion battery to deliver a total of 194 horsepower to the ground through a CVT, up from 180 hp in the regular Forester Wilderness. Kyle Edward/Autoblog View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Inside, you get a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and an 11.6-inch touchscreen display for infotainment (which works okay but not great), model-specific gray StarTex upholstery, and Subaru's EyeSight advanced driver aids. Orange accents on the steering wheel (matching those on the body) and embossed headrests help the Wilderness stand out from other Forester models, though that will already be obvious from the several badges on the body and the 800-pound (static) roof rails. While we're on the subject of practicality, the cargo area has 27.5 cubic feet of volume with the rear seats in place, and with them folded forward, over 69 cubes, accessed through a power tailgate. Remarkably, these figures are the same as the non-hybrid, so Subaru's engineers clearly know how to play Tetris. 2027 Subaru Forester Wilderness Hybrid Convenience and On-Sale Date Kyle Edward/Autoblog View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article The center touchscreen on the hybrid version of the off-road-biased Forester provides wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is enjoyed through an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with a 576-watt equivalent amplifier. The configurable dash display has Apple Maps integration, though native navigation is also included, and the aforementioned EyeSight suite includes emergency lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with lane centering, emergency stop assist, and a few other safety features. The Forester is one of the safest vehicles on the market, and this hybrid version should be just as trustworthy. More information, including pricing, torque figures, EPA estimates, and more, will arrive closer to the Forester Wilderness Hybrid's on-sale date, scheduled for sometime late in 2026. 18. Across the Atlantic, the cheapest all-electric Kia is the EV2, which starts around the $31,000 mark, but it's too small for American buyers, so today at the New York International Auto Show, Kia has revealed the stylish new 2027 EV3. The automaker calls it a "right-sized all-electric entry SUV," and with up to 320 miles of range and a native NACS port opening up access to most charging stations, it seems like a decent runaround. All-wheel drive is also available, so it can be used in the winter, and with a downsized take on the EV9's styling, it's a handsome little EV. Let's take a closer look. 2027 Kia EV3: Five Flavors to Choose From Kia View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article The 2027 Kia EV3 will be offered in five trim levels: Light, Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT, with the latter offering more performance. The 400-volt E-GMP platform provides a standard-range 58.3 kWh battery for the base, front-wheel-drive Light trim, delivering up to 220 miles according to Kia's estimates, or a long-range 81.4 kWh battery for the others, which can have AWD and provide up to 320 miles of range. This is helped by an active air flap in the front bumper and a flat underbody cover, resulting in a drag coefficient of 0.275. Kia hasn't said how much power the base model produces, but AWD models make 261 hp, and the EV3 GT jumps to 288 hp. This trim also offers a virtual gear shift system and active sound design to make the EV experience more engaging. The GT also provides sportier suspension and steering setups, but all trims have Macpherson struts in front and a multi-link design at the back. Kia DC fast charging refills the base 58.3 kWh battery from 10-80 percent in around 29 minutes, while the 81.4 kWh battery in the other trims takes two minutes longer. As an EV, Kia has given the EV3 its i-Pedal 3.0 system for one-pedal driving, which can bring the car to a complete stop without touching the brake. This recuperates energy and can work in reverse, too. The EV3 is also useful as a power source, with Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Home functionality via a Wallbox. 2027 Kia EV3: Small Car, Big Screens Kia Just like the 2027 Seltos revealed concurrently, the EV3 gets a pair of 12.3-inch screens alongside each other (with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard and available Netflix and YouTube streaming), complemented by a 5.0-inch climate display. Below this, an open center console with retractable cupholders provides a place to store pocket fillers. Heated and ventilated front seats are available, while the rear seatbacks can recline up to 39 degrees. When there's nobody sitting back there, the rear seats fold flat in a 60/40 split, creating a cargo area with 56.5 cubic feet of volume. Keep those seats in place, and you have a decent 26.1 cubes, plus a 0.9 cubic feet in the frunk. A power liftgate that can automatically open using the Smart Key is also available, and the opening speed and height of this are customizable through the infotainment system. Speaking of the key, Digital Get 2.0 not only lets your smartphone lock/unlock the car and turn the EV3 on, but also share vehicle access with others via text, meaning they don't need your key to borrow your car. Related: Kia’s Cheapest Sedan and Flagship EV Both Just Won Top Safety Awards Naturally, the GT-Line and GT models need to feel special inside, so the former gets a three-spoke steering wheel, metal pedals, and off-white two-tone seats, while the latter gets bucket seats and neon green accents in the seatbelts, steering wheel, and interior trim. Multicolor ambient lighting is also available, as is a 12-inch head-up display, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, wireless device charging, a surround-view camera, and a connected garage door closer. 2027 Kia EV3: Safety and Other Highlights Kia As standard, the EV3 comes with eight airbags, and like the aforementioned Seltos, Kia also offers forward collision avoidance assist with junction turning and junction crossing aids, a highway driving assist system, reverse collision avoidance assist, and remote smart parking assist. Other noteworthy features include customizable interior dash themes from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, National Geographic, Star Wars, the NBA, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Pricing, however, is not something Kia is ready to share this early in the year, with that to follow closer to the EV3's on-sale date sometime in late 2026. Hopefully, this will be cheap enough that we barely notice the absence of the EV2. View the full article
  19. The New York International Auto Show is upon us, and some of the biggest news comes from one of Kia's smallest products. The 2027 Seltos subcompact crossover has made its U.S. debut with more space, more powertrain options, and more safety tech, not to mention styling clearly inspired by that of the Telluride midsize SUV. For its second generation, there's also more off-road capability, thanks to greater ground clearance and a new Multi-terrain AWD mode (on certain models), and more screen real estate, so let's take a closer look, starting with what's under the hood. 2027 Kia Seltos: Three Powertrains, New Colors to Choose From Kia View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article For the 2027 model year, the second-gen Seltos still offers a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine and a 190-horsepower 1.6-liter turbocharged mill, but there's also now the option of a 1.6-liter hybrid. Or at least there will be—the two carryover engines arrive first. The 2.0-liter motor still directs its power to the front wheels as standard, with AWD optional, doing so through a continuously variable transmission, while the 1.6-liter turbo is AWD only and makes use of an eight-speed automatic. The hybrid will offer both FWD and AWD setups, and it will use a third transmission: a six-speed dual-clutch automatic. Kia hasn't revealed full outputs or EPA estimates yet, saving that information for a time closer to the on-sale dates. For now, we know that the 2.0-liter engine will come with LX, S, EX, and X-Line trims, and the 1.6 turbo will only be offered in X-Line form, which explains why it's AWD only. Related: 2027 Kia Telluride Can Wade Deeper Than a Bronco Raptor or Defender The 2.0-liter X-Line upgrades the standard 16-inch alloy wheels to 18-inch wheels, while the 1.6 turbo and 1.6 hybrid X-Line will get black 19-inch wheels, the latter when e-AWD is selected. X-Line trims also get special bumpers and side sills with Piano Black trim and gunmetal accents, plus up to 8.1 inches of ground clearance. Along with the Telluride-inspired styling, which includes flush door handles, the 2027 Seltos adds three new colors: Terrain Brown, Frost Blue, and Snow White pearl with a black roof. 2027 Kia Seltos Gets Plenty of Screen Space Kia Inside, the 2027 Seltos draws further inspiration from the Telluride with its column-mounted shifter stalk (opening up storage space in the center console) and its numerous screens, which include a 12.3-inch center infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard and, optionally, a 12.3-inch driver display and 5.0-inch climate control display. There's more space in the Seltos, thanks to a wheelbase that has been stretched 2.4 inches to create more legroom in both rows (an extra inch in the back), and because the crossover is wider and a little taller, Kia promises more hip, shoulder, and headroom, too. The enlarged crossover also provides more cargo capacity, with an estimated 27.8 cubic feet of volume behind the second row and up to 64.1 cubic feet behind the first row. Kia Other Telluride inspirations include the squared steering wheel, push-button start, and, in the X-Line, the mesh headrests. This trim gets a monotone black cabin finished in SynTex upholstery and standard four-way lumbar support. USB-C ports in both rows (three in front, two in the first-row seatbacks) should ensure everyone's devices are charged, and the new Seltos also offers streaming for Disney+, Netflix, and YouTube. An AI assistant and various customizable themes are almost obligatory nowadays, and the Seltos obliges. The themes will include offerings from Disney and the FIFA World Cup, the latter of which will be available from the end of July. Strange, since the 2026 World Cup ends on July 19, but anyway... 2027 Kia Seltos Safety and On-Sale Dates Kia View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article As standard, the new Seltos gets lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, driver attention warning, intelligent speed-limit warning, and forward collision avoidance with pedestrian and cyclist detection, but spend a little extra, and Kia will throw in speed-limit assist, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic avoidance, and a vehicle exit warning system. Borrowed from the Telluride are forward collision avoidance assist with junction turning, front and rear park distance warning systems, and a new side parking distance warning with reverse parking collision avoidance. Buyers can also opt for a surround-view monitor and a blind-spot view monitor, which sends a video feed from the left or right blind sport area to the digital cluster when the relevant turn signal is used. The second-generation 2027 Kia Seltos will go on sale in the U.S. between now and July, but only with the 2.0-liter N/A or 1.6-liter turbo powertrains; the 1.6 HEV is expected to arrive just before the end of the year. Pricing and further information will be released closer to the respective on-sale dates. View the full article
  20. The Scout Direct Sales DramaTo say that dealers don't like direct-to-consumer sales is a massive understatement. Of course, the main reason is that it has the potential to put them out of business. With that, dealers have been filing case after case against Volkswagen of America for its direct sales plan for Scout Motors. Talk about birthing pains. If anything, the cases filed so far have been attracting far more attention to the brand than Scout's actual products. There have been a few wins for Scout so far, but the dealers keep pushing back. Scout Motors Meanwhile, in CaliforniaThe California New Car Dealers Association filed a lawsuit against Volkswagen of America and Scout Motors last April 2025, claiming that both had violated an amended state law that took effect Jan. 1, 2024. Per Automotive News, the law "requires affiliated brands to use franchised dealers to sell and service vehicles." The same association also claimed that the two companies did not comply with the state's Unfair Competition Law and False Advertising Law when Scout began accepting $100 (refundable) deposits from customers. The suit said that Scout did not tell its customers that such a transaction was illegal in California, hence falling under false advertising. It's not the first time Scout has been slapped with that same claim. "Volkswagen can't pick and choose which vehicles to sell on its own or through its franchised dealer network, reserving the most profitable or desirable vehicles for itself," said Brian Maas, president of the California New Car Dealers Association. The association also wants the company fined $2,500 for each transaction, estimated at around $35 million. Scout Motors Dismissed and DeniedOf course, Volkswagen of America has filed a motion to dismiss the charges. The result is a mixed bag for the company, and the fight for Scout's direct sales model will continue. On one hand, a California federal judge dismissed a false advertising claim. However, regarding the unfair competition violation, the motion to dismiss was denied. Following the denied dismissal, Maas said, "This ruling confirms what California law recognizes: manufacturers cannot use affiliate brands to unlawfully compete against their own dealers. Volkswagen dealers would welcome the chance to sell Scout vehicles to their customers, but Volkswagen continues to shut them out." So, in California at least, it's a 'win' of sorts for both parties. Mind you, Scout and Volkswagen of America still have a mountain of legal battles ahead, and as long as there are dealers, there will always be pushback against direct-to-consumer sales. 21. After 8 Years, the 8er is No MoreAfter the barrage of new models from BMW, we can't help but feel that the 8 Series had become the most overlooked car in its lineup. If anything, some might even be surprised that it's still on sale. Well, it won't be around for long anymore, not that most people would notice. Back in July 2025, we reported on a special edition of the 8 Series for the 2026 model year, mentioning that it was possibly its last hurrah. Turns out, it was true as, according to CarBuzz, BMW had announced that it will soon cease production of 8 Series. The last car will roll out by the end of April 2026, capping off eight years of production. Mind you, the M8 versions were already discontinued last year, and it's the standard coupe, Gran Coupe and convertible that are heading off into the sunset. The G14/15/16 8 Series in a NutshellThe outgoing 8 Series was a revival of the classic E31 model from 1990 to 1999. Effectively a continuation of the (proper) 6 Series, BMW dusted off the nameplate after it had lain dormant for 19 years. The modern 8 Series made its world premiere at the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans, first as a coupe with the internal designation G15. A few months after the coupe's debut, the convertible followed in November 2018, with chassis code G14. The third type was the four-door Gran Coupe (G16), which was revealed in June 2019, a year after the coupe. Of course, there were M models, and it was also offered on all body styles. The M8 was motivated by a twin-turbo V8 that also powered the M5. Alpina even got its hands on the 8 Series and turned it into the B8. As for the regular models, there was a choice of turbo inline-six (840i), turbo V8 (M850i), and even a diesel (840d). The 8 Series range was facelifted for the 2023 model year and has not been updated since. End of an EraWith the discontinuation of the 8 Series, BMW is left without a flagship grand tourer and convertible yet again. Interestingly, this new-generation 8 Series won't last as long as the original model, which lasted 9 years. The 4 Series, which BMW has committed to building an all-new model, will serve as the company's lone coupe. It's unknown if BMW will ever revisit the space one occupied by the 8 Series, and to some extent, the 6 Series. Larger four-door sedans, coupes, and convertibles had largely fallen out of favor over the last couple of years. Then again, a third revival could be possible through Alpina, although that isn't set in stone just yet. BMW View the full article
  22. The Overland CruiserThe Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series, widely known as the Troopy, is one of the most respected utility vehicles ever built. Designed for durability, it has earned a reputation as a bush taxi in remote regions and a go-anywhere platform for overlanders. Its boxy shape, body-on-frame construction, and simple mechanicals make it ideal for harsh conditions where reliability is critical. Powering most modern 78 Series models is Toyota’s 4.5-liter V8 turbo diesel engine (1VD-FTV). It produces around 202 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. The focus is on low-end pulling power rather than speed. It is paired with a manual transmission and a part-time 4WD system. This setup ensures control, longevity, and ease of repair in remote areas and has a rabid following, especially in the southern hemisphere. It Can Go Through AnythingThe build featured on the ACE Van Conversions channel comes heavily equipped for serious overland travel. It uses an ARB bull bar with an integrated winch and auxiliary lighting. Upgraded suspension components improve ride and load handling. BFGoodrich all-terrain tires provide traction across varied terrain. A snorkel adds capability in water crossings and dusty environments, prerequisites for overlanders. An Alu-Cab pop-top expands interior space and sleeping capacity. The roof carries solar panels and storage boxes. A 270-degree awning creates usable outdoor living space. The gullwing hatch allows quick access from both inside and outside. Even the recovery board mount doubles as a table. What Counts Most is InsideInside, Adventure Van Conversions applies its signature aluminum and bamboo construction. The layout is compact but efficient. A 49-liter Dometic fridge is accessible from both inside and outside. The kitchen includes a sink, an induction cooktop, and a propane option for outdoor cooking. Storage is maximized throughout the cabin. Drawers and compartments are integrated into nearly every surface. Electronics are mounted within the chassis to free up living space. A slide-out table adds flexibility for work or food prep. The build also includes a compact toilet and a gray water tank for cleaner camping. View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article Built for Global TravelThe Troopy integrates modern systems without compromising its rugged nature. A central control screen manages lighting, water, and battery systems. It supports both 110V and 230V charging, making it suitable for international travel. Solar charging keeps the system running off-grid. A recovery mode allows the house battery to jump the starter battery when needed. As shown on the ACE Van Conversions channel, this Troopy build strikes a strong balance. It keeps the platform’s legendary durability intact while adding real-world livability. The V8 diesel delivers dependable torque, not speed. That is exactly what this vehicle is about. View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article View the full article
  23. Luxury ExclusivityWhen you reach a certain status in life, you want to distinguish yourself from the rest. Such is the success of luxury brands, appealing to those who want what others can't have, and the same holds true for cars. This is why some brands offer bespoke services for their customers; brands like Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Maybach, and others give clients the freedom to customize and modify. Alfa Romeo is offering such an experience for select customers in a land of opulence. Gargash Alfa Romeo View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article You Are GoldGargash Group is a distribution company in Dubai. Under its care are brands such as Mercedes-Benz, GAC, and Alfa Romeo. Focusing on the latter, Alfa Romeo just celebrated a big milestone last year, 115 years in the car-making business. Keen to keep the spirit of celebration going, Gargash dropped a very limited run of the Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Both cars underwent the Bespoke Edizione treatment through Alfa's bespoke department. The Giulia 115 is painted in a sinister black colorway that accentuates the iconic design. There are some Alfa Romeo crest logos adorned on the hood, as well as 115 badging. A key aspect of this bespoke model is the gold finish on the brake calipers, rims, splitter, and side skirts. Inside is a blend of orange and black, with the seat headrests displaying a 1 of 5 lettering. To create a little distinction between the two models, the Stelvio 115 has a dark gray paint finish. The same emblems and logo graphics can be found on the exterior as well as the gold-finished pieces and parts. Another key difference is that instead of the black and orange, the Stelvio goes for Black and tan. Of course, the Stelvio 115's interior also has the logos and special numbering. Powering these cars is the same 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, making 513 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. The Giulia remains rear-wheel drive, while the Stelvio uses all-wheel drive. As the headrest numbering suggests, only 10 cars will receive this treatment: five for the Giulia and five for the Stelvio. Prices start at $136,100 (converted), a pretty high bump up from the standard QV models, but you can't put a price on exclusivity, especially in Dubai. Gargash Alfa Romeo View the full article
  24. Fired From Work, Then Things EscalatedTroubling incidents involving car dealerships often involve disputes with manufacturers or incidents like large-scale thefts. This Ford dealership in Clay, New York, however, is dealing with an unusual case after a former employee allegedly fired shots at the showroom and slashed several tires. According to CNY Central, Dylan Young, 26, had been fired from Davidson Ford of Clay for insubordination before allegedly committing the act, which is believed to have occurred sometime between March 20 and 21. He was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal mischief, with his actions resulting in more than $25,000 in damage. Damage Across the LotYoung is accused of puncturing more than 50 tires across multiple vehicles. The report did not disclose which models were involved, though the New York dealership sells both new and used vehicles, including the Ford F-150, one of the best-selling models in the U.S. Since slashed tires involve replaceable components and do not affect the vehicle itself, the affected new units are unlikely to see a significant impact on retail pricing. Meanwhile, the showroom was also damaged, with six large double-pane windows reportedly shot out. Parts of the building were later boarded up as a temporary measure. Police recovered three long guns in total, including a 12-gauge shotgun. Fortunately, no one was inside the showroom at the time of the incident. However, authorities said there was no way for Young to have known whether anyone was inside, which is why the charges include reckless endangerment. The Scene AfterwardSpeaking about the incident, Sheriff Toby Shelley said, “I don't know Dylan Young as a person, I don't know his temperament by any means, obviously you want to be cautious when dealing with people, especially when you don't really know them.” Young was held at the Onondaga County Justice Center before being released on March 22, while the Davidson Ford dealership remains open. For prospective buyers, it may be worth asking about any prior incidents involving the vehicle. While units are typically restored to factory condition before being sold — and could be seen as a non-issue — buyers may still want added peace of mind by confirming whether any repairs were made prior to sale. 25. A Rare Second Chance at a Sold-Out HypercarMost of us will probably never spot a Bugatti Mistral W16 anywhere but an auto show, much less think about owning one. With just 99 built for the world, every single car was claimed before production started. Even if you had the budget, buying straight from Bugatti isn’t on the table anymore. Then again, the used exotic car market never fails to surprise. A 2025 Mistral is now up for grabs via TBTFW, giving anyone who missed the first round a second shot – if you’re willing to pay for it. The price? It started at over $5 million, but this one is now pegged at $10.5 million, thanks to both its rarity and the attention it’s getting from collectors. It’s only covered 328 miles so far, which is basically delivery mileage in the hypercar world – just with a hefty premium on top. TBTFW A Bespoke Spec with Subtle AggressionThis Mistral goes for a low-key but aggressive look. The Matte Argent Silver paint is set off by Beluga Blue details on the wheels, badges, door sills, and even the engine bay. The Mistral script under the rear wing matches, too, so the whole spec feels thought out without being flashy – at least in our books. The cabin is mostly tangerine, with Beluga Blue stitching for contrast, covering the seats and door panels. It’s a bold mix, but it suits the Mistral’s role as a sendoff for the W16. There are also familiar Bugatti touches. The Rembrandt Bugatti Dancing Elephant is embroidered into the headrests, while the gear selector is finished in blue. Carbon fiber elements are present throughout, along with subtle French tricolor details on the doors. Design-wise, the Mistral sets itself apart from the Chiron with a wider horseshoe grille, vertical headlights, air intakes on top, and those X-shaped taillights. It’s familiar, but not just a copy. TBTFW The End of an Era for BugattiUnderneath it all sits Bugatti’s 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine, producing 1,578 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, launching the car to 60 mph in around 2.5 seconds. Top speed is rated at 282 mph, making it the fastest roadster in the world. Every Mistral goes through serious pre-delivery testing around Molsheim, racking up hundreds of kilometers in different conditions to make sure everything works as it should. It’s one of those details that matter beyond just the spec sheet. More than anything, the Mistral closes the book on Bugatti’s W16 era – a story that started with the Veyron and moved through the Chiron. Suffice to say, it’s hard to argue the Mistral’s importance, so this one example should attract collectors – if they’re willing to pay the premium.
