Official race results from 2026 Atlanta NASCAR Cup race
Sunday's NASCAR Cup race at Atlanta featured a record number of lead changes with over a dozen different drivers taking a turn out front. For the first time since 2009, a driver opened the season with back-to-back wins as Tyler Reddick surged ahead in double overtime to win the race. It was an improbable comeback after being collected in a mid-race wreck and losing his right-front ...Keep readingView the full article

Tyler Reddick goes back-to-back, wins mad Atlanta Cup race with no fender
Tyler Reddick had no right-front fender after a mid-race frontstretch wreck, but that didn't stop him from capturing the checkered flag in a chaotic finish at EchoPark Speedway (Atlanta). It was Reddick's 23XI Racing teammate Bubba Wallace who had the lead on the final restart, and Reddick was the pusher. Carson Hocevar lined up on the outside with Ross Chastain directly behind him. Toyota’s Sportiest RAV4 Is Already Getting GR Parts in Japan
A Sneak Peek From AbroadWhile the 2026 Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is scheduled to arrive in the U.S. in spring 2026, the model has already launched in Japan. That early debut gave Toyota Racing Development (TRD) in Japan an opportunity to showcase its catalog of parts for the PHEV’s GR Sport variant, which are currently offered only in its home market. TRD offers the Japan-spec 2026 RAV4 GR Sport with bodywork enhancements, including a front spoiler, side skirts, and rear bumper spoiler. These components are finished in black with gunmetal accents, giving the crossover a more aggressive appearance than the standard GR Sport variant. Toyota Japan More Than Just LooksTRD lists a GR “Performance Damper” among its available upgrades for the RAV4 GR Sport, designed to reduce body flex and vibration, helping the vehicle feel more precise and stable – benefits that are especially noticeable during cornering. That could prove particularly useful, given that the PHEV powertrain delivers not only improved efficiency but also a performance boost. For reference, the upcoming U.S.-spec model pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with three electric motors, producing a combined 324 horsepower. That output enables a 0–60 mph sprint in just 5.4 seconds, based on Toyota’s prototype testing. Other GR Sport parts offered for the Japanese model include 20-inch alloy wheels, a GR discharge sticker, side visors, a door stabilizer, a carbon-fiber license plate frame, and door handle protectors. Toyota Japan Electrification in FocusSo far, Toyota has only officially launched the hybrid version of the 2026 RAV4 in the U.S., starting at $31,900 excluding destination fees. The shift to hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants effectively phases out the non-electrified model in the U.S. lineup, reflecting the brand’s strategy to capitalize on growing demand for electrified vehicles – unlike in markets such as the Middle East and China, where gasoline-only options remain available. Because plug-in hybrids are typically more complex than conventional hybrids, the RAV4 PHEV will likely command a higher price once it arrives stateside – especially if equipped with the GR Sport badge, which will be a first in the U.S. It's worth noting that the GR Sport badge isn't the same as a full-fledged GR model. Unlike models such as the Toyota GR86, which is engineered as a dedicated performance car, GR Sport variants generally focus more on styling enhancements and subtle driving refinements than transformative powertrain changes. In Japan, the RAV4 Z PHEV starts at 6.0 million yen (about $38,700 at current exchange rates), while the GR Sport version – excluding the aforementioned TRD upgrades – is priced at 6.3 million yen (roughly $40,700). Honda’s Most Hardcore Civic Type R Could Cost Twice as Much
A More Extreme Red-Badged Civic Is ComingThe Civic Type R isn’t going anywhere. Honda’s already confirmed a mid-cycle refresh for the current FL5, which would keep most Type R fans happy. But Honda’s been working on something much more serious behind the scenes. Honda Racing Corporation’s Civic Type R HRC Concept broke cover at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon, and it’s clear this isn’t just a show car. HRC bosses say they’re pushing ahead with production, so that means a true track-focused flagship that sits above the regular Type R is indeed coming. That’s the upside. The catch? This ultimate Civic won’t be cheap. HRC But That Pricing Is a Talking PointAccording to Japan’s Best Car, the HRC-tuned Civic Type R will cost about 10 million yen – about $65,000 at current exchange rates. That’s roughly double the standard Type R’s price in Japan, which starts at 4.99 million yen, or around $32,000. Japanese pricing rarely lines up with what buyers pay elsewhere. In the US, for example, the Civic Type R already starts at $46,895 – a big jump from its home-market sticker. Obviously, the HRC model is moving into territory usually reserved for serious performance cars, not just hot hatches. So what do buyers get for the money? Outside, the camouflaged HRC Concept shown at Tokyo Auto Salon wore a splitter-integrated front bumper, big canards, new fender outlets, and side steps that channel air toward the rear wheels. At the back, there’s a larger diffuser and a more aggressive wing with longer end plates. HRC has upgraded the cooling, too. The wheels are still 19-inchers on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s, at least for now. HRC Racing Hardware for the RoadHonda hasn’t shown the interior yet, but we’re not expecting anything luxurious. But perhaps the most important question is what’s under the hood. HRC hasn’t shared final specs, but the concept is tied to Honda’s Super Taikyu program, where a Civic Type R with the HRC-K20C racing engine set a class record in 2025. Development input came straight from active drivers and advisor Takuma Sato, so this car is being shaped by real racing experience. No question, the price is steep. But if the HRC-tuned Civic Type R delivers real gains in aero, cooling, and chassis, it’ll fill a niche with almost no direct rivals. For buyers chasing the most hardcore factory Type R ever, demand won’t stop at Japan’s borders. Even in the US, where prices are already high, there will be enthusiasts who see the value in a no-compromise Civic with an HRC badge. Commercial Travel Banned: What Drivers Must Know About the East Coast Blizzard
The East Coast Bomb Cyclone Freezes the I-95 CorridorMillions of drivers are facing impossible conditions today as a historic blizzard rapidly intensifies off the Northeast coast. With up to two feet of snow expected from Delaware to Massachusetts, travel is coming to a complete halt. Whiteout conditions driven by 70 mph wind gusts are making roads impassable and severely limiting visibility. For anyone commuting or managing fleet logistics, the situation is escalating by the hour. This weather event is classified as a bomb cyclone, meaning the atmospheric pressure has dropped rapidly, creating a localized hurricane effect combined with freezing temperatures. Snowfall rates are exceeding three inches per hour in some areas. This volume completely outpaces the ability of local and state road crews to clear the asphalt. As a result, major arteries like the New Jersey Turnpike, Interstate 95, and the Merritt Parkway are heavily rutted with deep snowpack and ice. Kristen Brown Commercial Driving Bans EnforcedTo prevent catastrophic pileups and keep lanes clear for emergency responders, states are taking aggressive action. Commercial vehicles are the first to be pulled from the highways. New York has implemented a strict travel ban on all commercial vehicles and tractor-trailers from Interstate 84 and points south. This includes major delivery routes into and out of New York City and Long Island. Connecticut has followed suit with a statewide emergency order. The state has prohibited all commercial vehicles, including heavy-duty trucks and tandem trailers, on all limited-access highways. These bans are not suggestions; state police are actively enforcing them. For the logistics and trucking industry, this means an immediate halt to supply chain movement across the Northeast. Fleet managers must reroute drivers to safe truck stops or staging areas well outside the storm impact zone. Related: Cadillac Drops Smoking 2026 Escalade-V Lease Offer For February What Regular Motorists Should DoWhile commercial vehicles face outright bans, regular motorists are strongly advised to stay off the roads entirely. Driving in these conditions is incredibly dangerous and puts unnecessary strain on first responders. If you are currently safe at home or work, shelter in place. Attempting to navigate zero-visibility whiteouts can lead to stranding, accidents, and hypothermia. If you absolutely must travel for a life-threatening emergency, ensure your vehicle is equipped with the following: A fully charged mobile phone and backup power bankBlankets, heavy winter clothing, and waterproof bootsA snow shovel and traction material like sand or kitty litterFlares or reflective warning trianglesSufficient food and water for at least 24 hoursDo not rely on standard all-season tires in these conditions. Only vehicles with dedicated winter tires or chained tires have a chance of maintaining traction, and even then, the high winds and deep drifts present an extreme hazard. Photo by Anadolu on Getty Images Northern California Faces Atmospheric RiverWhile the East Coast freezes, the West Coast faces its own severe driving hazards. A long-duration atmospheric river is currently slamming into Northern California and the Pacific Northwest. Forecasters expect up to 10 inches of rain through Wednesday. Because the freezing levels remain high, this rain is falling directly onto existing snowpacks in the Sierra Nevada and the Cascade Range. This combination is leading to rapid, severe runoff. Drivers in these western regions face localized flooding on coastal and mountain roadways. The risk of hydroplaning is exceptionally high on interstates like I-5 and US 101. Furthermore, saturated ground significantly increases the likelihood of mudslides, which can wash out rural roads with no warning. Motorists should never attempt to drive through standing water, as roadbeds may be entirely washed away beneath it. Stay Updated and Stay SafeWeather patterns for both the East Coast blizzard and the West Coast atmospheric river are highly volatile. Road closures, commercial bans, and emergency declarations will shift as the storm fronts move. Always consult your local Department of Transportation website or 511 services before even considering getting behind the wheel today. View the full article

The Toyota RAV4 PHEV Can Power a Home for a Week — But Not in America
Powering More Than the DriveToyota has unveiled the 2026 RAV4 PHEV in Japan, and one of its most notable features is a power supply system designed to provide electricity to homes during emergencies, such as power outages. That sounds like a strong proposition – especially since this capability is more commonly associated with all-electric vehicles with Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) bidirectional charging like the Chevrolet Silverado EV – but according to Road & Track, it won’t be offered in the U.S. market. The press release states that the RAV4 PHEV’s HV Power Supply Mode allows the vehicle to provide electricity for approximately 6.5 days at a 400W load, provided the battery is fully charged, and the fuel tank is full. Moreover, in Power Supply Time Priority Mode, the duration can be extended to as much as seven days. Toyota The Backup AdvantageIn parts of the U.S. where power outages are more common, this feature could serve as a useful backup power source – especially for buyers who aren’t ready to commit to a fully electric vehicle. After all, the RAV4 is already one of the most popular vehicles in the U.S. Toyota also noted that the new RAV4 PHEV features a 100V external power outlet, capable of supplying up to 1,500 watts of total output for powering outdoor appliances. What’s confirmed for the U.S.-spec model is its plug-in hybrid powertrain, which produces a combined 324 horsepower from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and three electric motors. Prototype vehicles in testing achieved a 0–60 mph time of 5.4 seconds. When fully charged, the vehicle has a manufacturer-estimated electric-only range of up to 52 miles. Toyota U.S. Launch DetailsToyota is expected to launch the 2026 RAV4 PHEV in the U.S. in spring 2026. It will be offered in four trims: SE, XSE, GR Sport, and Woodland. The Woodland adds a more rugged, outdoorsy look similar to what’s available on the bZ, one of the brand’s few EV models available stateside, alongside the new C-HR. This product lineup reflects Toyota’s multi-powertrain strategy, with the RAV4 offered exclusively in electrified form in the U.S., even as other markets such as the Middle East and China continue to offer gas-only variants. With the RAV4 Hybrid starting at $31,900 before destination, the PHEV is expected to carry a higher price tag. Toyota View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article View the full article

Polestar Pushes 6 Roadster Further Into the Future
From Niche to RelevanceVolvo, by all intents and purposes, has always been a niche brand. Despite being a major mass-market luxury brand, they seemed like a different flavor to most people. Even more so was the Polestar brand, which started life as Volvo's performance arm and later spun off to become an independent full EV maker. 2025 was Polestar's best year of sales so far, and the company's keen to keep it going, with many planned model releases in the coming years to drive volume sales. There's still a plan to introduce a two-door EV roadster, the Polestar 6, though it's facing a little hitch now. Polestar For The Masses Polestar's success in 2025 has given it the appetite to go for more in the coming years, including a wagon. The ambition is to reach 100,000 sales globally by introducing four new models between now and 2028. This strategy has yielded announcements for the launch of the Polestar 5, 4, 2, and 7. As exciting as these cars are, the Polestar 6 has had people's attention since 2022. It was originally supposed to hit the showroom floors and our roads this year, but has been pushed back in favor of the other models mentioned above. Speaking to AutoExpress, the company's Chief Executive, Michael Loscheller, said that the Polestar 6 roadster will be a small-volume model. He went on to say that they are targeting the high-profit potential segments but will continue to develop the 6 as a high-end product. So far, the timeline for the 6 has been pushed to 2029 at the earliest. Polestar 5 Cole Attisha Using Midjourney 7.0 & Gemini 2.5 Flash Image View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article Untapped MarketThere are already many high-performance EVs on the market. We have examples like the Teslas, the Ioniq Ns, and further up the flagpole are the Rimacs and many more. Interestingly, there aren't many EV roadsters available globally. The only pure-electric convertibles right now are the MG Cyberster, the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, and the next-generation Tesla Roadster (if it happens). Not to mention that these cars aren't sold everywhere, so Polestar's plan to keep going with the 6 is sound; we just hope by then they'll still have space in the segment or market interest. Either way, any two-door car will always be welcome. View the full article

Tesla Drops Cybertruck Price $20K — But It Might Only Last 10 Days
A Price Cut With a ClockTesla recently unveiled a new entry-level Cybertruck trim priced about $20,000 below the Premium AWD model. However, CEO Elon Musk dampened the excitement with a cryptic post on X: “Just for 10 days.” A follow-up exchange with a fan later clarified what he was referring to. When asked how much the Cybertruck would cost after 10 days, Musk responded, “Depends on how much demand we see at this price level.” While the remark implies the lower price may be temporary, the new Dual Motor variant still shapes up as an appealing option – particularly since it isn’t far off the Premium AWD model in terms of performance and range. Depends on how much demand we see at this price level — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) February 20, 2026 No SlouchBoth AWD variants feature a dual-motor setup capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in about 4.1 seconds, with an estimated range of 325 miles. For comparison, the range-topping Cyberbeast uses a tri-motor configuration, delivering a 0 to 60 mph time of 2.6 seconds and an estimated 320 miles of range. The new base trim’s main trade-offs come in capability. Towing capacity is rated at 7,500 pounds, compared to 11,000 pounds for higher trims, while payload drops to 2,006 pounds from 2,500 pounds. It also rides on smaller 18-inch wheels. Charging performance, however, remains on par, with up to 132 miles of range added in about 15 minutes. Other cost-cutting measures include a seven-speaker audio system instead of a 15-speaker setup, the removal of air suspension, and the lack of the 9.4-inch rear passenger touchscreen. Tesla Sales RealityGiven that the Cybertruck recorded the steepest sales decline of any EV last year, it’s not surprising that Tesla introduced a more affordable trim starting at $59,990. That figure is still far from the sub-$40,000 price point originally promised when the truck debuted, but it’s more in line with today’s electric pickup landscape. For context, the Chevrolet Silverado EV starts at around $55,000, while Ford has halted the production of the F-150 Lightning amid slow demand and high production costs. It will be interesting to see whether Tesla’s Q1 2026 Cybertruck sales receive a boost – especially if the current reduced price is indeed available for just 10 days. If not, the impact may be limited. The initial hype around the Cybertruck has already cooled, and Tesla is broadening its focus beyond vehicles anyway, reportedly phasing out the Model S and Model X to make room for its robotics and AI initiatives, such as the Optimus humanoid project. Toyota Is Offering $6,500 Off Its bZ Woodland — But Subaru Still Undercuts It
Toyota and Subaru shared the GR86 and BRZ, and then they put their own badges on their nearly identical electric crossovers, the bZ and Trailseeker. But despite sharing nearly everything, the two EVs have a big gulf between their prices, with the 2026 bZ Woodland over $5,000 more expensive than the 2026 Trailseeker. At least, that was the case a few weeks ago, with Cars.com reporting that the bZ Woodland is now being offered with up to $5,000 in cash back for buyers and $6,500 in cash back for those who choose to lease. Even those who finance can chip away at the bZ Woodland's $45,300 base MSRP, with $3,500 in cash back. A Trio of Offers for the 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland Cole Attisha/Autoblog View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article With federal tax credits long gone, Toyota is offering $5,000 in customer cash for buyers, much like a rebate, $6,500 in lease cash to lower the overall price from which the EV's monthly payments are derived, and for those who finance, a 0% APR deal for 72 months with $3,500 cash back. This helps lower the down payment. All three offers are available for both the base and Premium trims of the bZ Woodland, and they expire on March 2. Naturally, these offers cannot be combined, and offers may vary depending on the state. If you'd rather simply opt for the cheaper Trailseeker, Subaru wants $39,995, and this has three trims, with the middle Limited and top Touring variants starting at $43,995 and $46,555, respectively. Both bZ Woodland and Trailseeker carry destination charges of $1,450, sneaking in below the average new car price in America. 2026 Toyota bZ and Subaru Trailseeker Specs Toyota View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Both EVs have dual motors enabling all-wheel drive, and both produce 375 horsepower. They also share the same 8.3-inch ground clearance measurement, 3,500-lb maximum towing capacity, and 74.7-kWh lithium-ion batteries. But despite all their similarities, the Subaru Trailseeker may be the better buy, because it manages 280 miles of range on a single charge, while the bZ Woodland only does 260 miles. Inside, both vehicles have 14-inch touchscreens with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, wireless smartphone charging for two devices, and power driver's seats. The only major difference is that a panoramic-view monitor is optional on the Trailseeker and standard on the bZ Woodland, and if you step up to the Trailseeker Limited ($43,995), you get this feature plus 20-inch wheels, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, a Harmon Kardon audio upgrade, and a 1,500W cargo area power dock — all while still undercutting the base bZ. Thus, there's little reason to choose the Toyota besides brand loyalty. View the full article

Fans Will Have a Tough Time Ordering the Facelifted 2027 Nissan Z
Important Z Tweaks Coming to AmericaThe facelifted Nissan Z was quietly announced at the height of the Tokyo Auto Salon fanfare last month. No spotlight, no big reveal – just a subtle update that you might miss if you weren’t paying attention. But honestly, it’s a tweak that matters, especially if you’re never sold on the old rectangular grille. The front end now looks cleaner and softer, with a shape that calls back to the original Fairlady Z. The bumper and nose are simpler, and the whole car feels less cluttered, but Nissan didn’t mess with the formula too much. The bigger news is that this facelift is coming to the US as a 2027 model. That part is encouraging. The catch, according to information shared on the Nissan Z Club forum site, is that actually ordering one may be far more difficult than expected. Nissan/Nissan Z Club View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article New Look, But Will Be Rarer Than EverThe forum post, reportedly based on dealer-facing material, states that Nissan is shifting the Z to a build-to-order-style system for the US market. For 2027, dealers are said to be allocated fewer than three cars on average for the entire model year. Not per month. Per year. The standard Z gets the new front bumper and grille, some suspension tweaks, 19-inch wheels, and the return of green paint. In Japan, it’s Unryu Green; in the US, it’s Shinkai Green. That color won’t hit production until June 2026, and there’s still no official color code. There’s also a new tan interior, and early info suggests it won’t be limited to green cars. That gives buyers a bit more choice – if you can actually get an allocation, which is the real challenge here. Nissan Nismo Gets What Fans WantedFor the Nissan Z Nismo, the big news, of course, is the manual transmission. It gets a shorter shift, a stiffer feel, unique engine and chassis tuning, and its own clutch. Wireless phone charging is a small but useful touch. Nissan moved 5,487 Zs in the US last year, a solid jump from before. But if you do the math as one of the forum members did – 1,082 dealers and about three cars each – that’s just 3,246 cars for 2027, assuming every slot gets filled. Obviously, there will be fewer cars to be sold than last year. And, with the improvements revealed, the 2027 Nissan Z looks like the one to have – but actually landing one will come down to timing, dealer connections, and a bit of luck. Volkswagen’s Tiguan R Targets Toyota’s RAV4 GR Sport With 300+ HP
The Volkswagen Tiguan is currently available in SEL R-Line Turbo form, but as sporty as that name is meant to seem, the crossover is not quick enough to beat a Toyota RAV4 GR Sport in a straight line. Wolfsburg has a retort in development, however, and it's simply called the Tiguan R. Spied in Sweden during cold-weather testing, this pre-production vehicle looks very similar to the R-Line Turbo, but a set of four exhaust tips and some beefy brakes give it away as the hottest Tiguan yet. While the R-Line Turbo makes 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, this is expected to exceed 300 hp. Whether it will match or even beat the 320-hp RAV4 GR Sport remains to be seen, but we shouldn't have to wait too long to know the full story. 2027 Volkswagen Tiguan R Will Become More Aggressive SH Proshots/Autoblog View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article Drilled brake discs hide behind unassuming wheels on this Tiguan R development vehicle, and at the rear, a quad-exit exhaust system peeks out from beneath the faux diffuser, but if these cues seem a little subtle for the range-topping Tiguan, don't worry, they are. More aggressive bumpers will be fitted to the final production vehicle, as will sportier wheels. We also expect silver wing mirrors, a slightly more aggressive roof spoiler, and an R badge somewhere on the tailgate. After all, there's little point in overtaking that RAV4 if the driver doesn't know what just beat them at the lights. Related: Volkswagen Plans Massive 20% Cost Cuts Across Its Entire Group As for total output, the previous-generation Tiguan R delivered 315 hp from its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, an engine it shared with the Golf R. The current Golf R, however, makes 328 hp, so it stands to reason that the next Tiguan R will make as much, giving VW drivers bragging rights over those with a Toyota badge on their key fobs. U.S. Sales of 2027 VW Tiguan R in Doubt SH Proshots/Autoblog View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article The previous Tiguan R wasn't sold in the U.S., and it's unclear if this one will be. Although the regular Tiguan is the best-selling VW nameplate in the United States, the Tiguan R may be too pricey for our palates. And with the SUV being produced in countries currently subject to tariffs, the revival of the Tiguan R may not be worth celebrating here. For the record, the 2026 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo carries a base MSRP of $44,560, and a full-fat R model would surely exceed 50 grand. The Toyota RAV4 GR Sport hasn't yet been priced, although other trims have been, but it, too, is expected to cost in the region of $52,000. Perhaps VW will wait to see how well its rival sells before making a call on offering the Tiguan R here, but regardless, a reveal is only expected to take place in the second half of this year. Audi Confirms the RS5 Avant Isn’t Coming to America — Despite Fan Pushback
The Model Formerly Known as the RS 4It may say RS 5 on the trunk lid, but the reality is that the latest model is more of an RS 4 successor. The real RS 5 is no more, as there are no plans for a coupe or a convertible. Blame it all on the odd-even naming convention that hasn't done Audi any favors, and the company has admitted that it was a misstep. As it's essentially an RS 4, it gets more formal body styles. The sedan is back, though the DNA of the old RS 5 Sportback remains. Of course, there's also the Avant, which has been a staple of the RS 4 family from day one. This is also Audi's first-ever plug-in hybrid RS model. It packs well over 600 horsepower, but is saddled by a massive weight gain that makes it even heavier than some full-size SUVs. What a world we live in today. Audi The Bad NewsStill, we're cautiously optimistic about the new-generation RS 5, and we'll reserve judgment until we've driven it. But the question on everyone's mind right now, at least for American customers, is whether the Avant will be sold stateside. Unfortunately, we have bad news for you. If you're familiar with the Auditography YouTube channel, then you'll know that its host is a massive fan of the four rings. He's also not afraid to speak up or voice out criticisms about the brand despite being one of the automaker's most trusted photographers. On behalf of everyone, he asked Audi if the Avant is coming to America, and the answer was a straightforward no. Admittedly, this writer isn't based in the U.S, but we still feel bad for you guys. The U.S. has been asking for a hotter, more compact RS Avant model for decades — 25 years, to be exact — so what gives? The answer Auditography got was "Audi of America don't see the demand." Right. But Hot Wagons are In, Right? It's a bit of a baffling answer if we're being honest, as hot wagons are becoming a strong niche in America. For instance, over half of the M5s that BMW shifts in the U.S are Touring models, and Audi has been making bank on the RS 6 since it finally landed in the country. Let's also not forget the more subtle Mercedes-AMG E53 Wagon, as well as the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo. Even Genesis wants to throw its hat into the ring with the G90 Wingback. But one thing you'll notice about the models mentioned above is that they're all on the larger side of the wagon spectrum. At the moment, no one is offering smaller performance wagons in the U.S. The M3 Touring isn't sold in America, and the same goes for the C63 wagon. While Audi of America can claim there's no demand, there's strong clamoring for it. Audi practically invented the compact high-performance wagon genre with the RS 2, and the new RS5 Avant has the potential to succeed in the Land of the Free. Audi An Ongoing PetitionStill, never say never, right? While writing this story, we stumbled upon a Change.org petition to bring the RS5 Avant to America. At the moment, it has close to 1,000 supporters and is awaiting a reply from Audi USA. Truth be told, we're not entirely optimistic about it, even if it garners thousands of signatures. Still, that's not to say petitions don't work. The Mustang was saved because of that, and America got the E36 M3 through the same process, albeit with a different version. Still, a result is a result, and if enough people are vocal about it and actually pledge to buy it, it might be enough for Audi USA to give the RS 5 Avant more thought. BMW M Boss Explains Why Manual Transmissions Are Dying
The slow death of the manual transmission in the premium space is not due to drivers having no interest in three pedals, nor is it because the know-how to develop them isn't there. Simply put, a confluence of several factors has led to its decline, and according to BMW M boss Frank van Meel, "the manual doesn't really make sense." Speaking with Australia's CarSales, van Meel explained that "it limits you in torque and in fuel consumption." At least, that's the case with BMW's current manual transmission, which can handle no more than 405 lb-ft of torque while still meeting the automaker's requirements, making it unsuitable for the CS-badged versions of the M2, M3, and M4, not to mention the "regular" 738-lb-ft M5. To keep pace with rivals in the horsepower race, engines need to make more power while still being cleaner than ever. But surely a sturdier gearbox could be created? Well, yes and no. Why Manual Transmissions Make No Sense BMW "It's going to be quite difficult in the future to develop completely new gearboxes because the segment in the market is quite small, and the suppliers are not so keen on doing something like that," said van Meel. BMW's manuals have long been supplied by German manufacturers Getrag and ZF, whose customers have also included Audi, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Mercedes. These premium brands focus more on luxury than the performance-minded BMW M division, and producing a gearbox exclusively for M cars would be very costly. Even Porsche's manual cars are relatively low on grunt, with the 911 Carrera T and GT3 making 331lb-ft, so if BMW or any other automaker wanted something that could handle the increased output of contemporary powertrains, the costs would not be shared with a wide range of other customers. For the time being, however, and for a little while to come, manual M2, M3, and M4 variants will continue to be offered. "We're still happy with the manuals we have, and we plan to keep them for the next couple of years, but in future, probably it's going to be more difficult to keep the manuals alive, especially in the next decade," said van Meel, alluding to increased electrification. Costs of New Manual Transmissions Are Prohibitive Porsche The existence of the (admittedly aging) Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, with 659 lb-ft of torque, proves that manuals can handle big power, and the old C7 Corvette ZR1 made 715 lb-ft, but both those cars' transmissions come from Tremec in Mexico. While shipping would be costly enough, the TR-6060 transmission in the Caddy, an evolution of the T-56, and the TR-6070 in the Chevy (a seven-speed version of the TR-6060) are known for roughness when shifting from 1st to 2nd, which would be unacceptable for a premium automaker like BMW. Simply put, the economies of scale no longer make sense in this space, though they still do in ultra-exclusive limited editions. Want a manual transmission in a European car with loads of torque? You'll need winning lotto numbers; the Pagani Utopia makes 811 lb-ft, and the Koenigsegg CC850 develops as much as 1,022 lb-ft of E85, and both allow you to row your own gears. In a nutshell, shifting manually is fast becoming a luxury experience, at least if you want loads of torque. View the full article

Audi RS Q8 Now Packs Up to 760 HP With New Tuning Package
Family Hauler On SteroidsSUVs no longer serve a single purpose. This type of vehicle was typically reserved for getting people around and for traversing tough terrain. Since the surge in SUV demand, brands have begun offering them as sport models as well. While it may sound surprising, we now have multiple high-performance SUVs on the market. Audi does things a little differently: instead of offering just one full-size SUV, it offers two, the Q7 and the Q8. The former is the traditional option with conservative styling and 7 seats; the latter is a more coupe-like SUV with a sportier look. The RS Q8 is the hot version – and it has just gotten a tuning treatment from none other than ABT. ABT RSQ8-SABT Tuning is one of the biggest tuners out there; in fact, it is one of the biggest firms that tinker with VW Group-branded cars. Its latest offering is the RSQ8-S performance kit, which makes the already sporty SUV even more powerful and imposing. Starting with the design, the ABT kit for the RSQ8-S is subtle overall. You can't immediately tell that a kit has been added unless you look closely. There is a matte carbon front fascia and gloss-black ABT front-wheel-arch ventilation with an integrated RSQ8-S emblem badge. At the rear is a similar matte carbon rear spoiler, an ABT stainless steel quad-pipe exhaust. Rounding out the whole look is the 23-inch ABT HIGH PERFORMANCE IR23RSQ8-S. There is also a Level Control system that is supposed to optimise the vehicle's stance and driving dynamics Interior features remain unchanged, except for subtle ABT branding to highlight differences between this version and the standard RS Q8. The ABT logo can be found on the headrest, carbon shift knob, floor and trunk mats, door sill plates, and start stop button. Sleeper SUVOf course, performance has also tuned; the standard RS Q8 already delivers 600 hp or 640 hp (depending on variant). ABT takes it further by increasing power outputs to 740 hp with 678 lb-ft, and 760 hp with 722 lb-ft, more than enough power to kickstart a dead planet if needed. Overall, the RSQ8-S offers both form and function. The looks, though, remain unassuming in true Audi fashion, making this a true sleeper SUV. It should appeal to those who want the practicality of an SUV, but the outright performance capability to shame or scare a supercar. If anyone wants to purchase this kit, prices start at approximately $63,000, converted. View the 5 images of this gallery on the original article View the full article

Apple CarPlay Breaks Siri's Grip With Third-Party AI Chatbots
Apple CarPlay will soon receive one of its most important updates yet with the upcoming iOS 26.4 release, which is expected to be pushed to compatible iPhones across the world this spring. For now, the first beta has already been made available to developers on February 18, followed by the first public beta on February 20. The new update adds plenty of new features to the iPhone, including for CarPlay users. This is big news for drivers who own iPhones as they are getting access for the first time through the CarPlay system to other intelligent voice assistants than Siri, namely third-party AI services like Open AI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude. How Will It Work? Ford These voice-based chatbots will offer hands-free interactions directly through the CarPlay interface, with Apple said to introduce a new, customizable voice control screen designed specifically to provide vehicle-optimized chatbot experiences. According to Money Control, apps can display simple, vehicle-optimized visual feedback during an active chatbot session to accompany spoken responses. Mind you, the functionality will be limited on purpose, as third-party AI apps will not be allowed to control vehicle systems or iPhone settings. Additionally, there is no wake word support, i.e. no "Hey Google" for Gemini. Instead, users will still need to manually open the chatbot app before asking questions; after that, all interaction remains voice-driven. Once the new update is live, CarPlay users can expect many app updates as AI developers start adding support. Why This Is a Big Deal for Apple CarPlay Nissan Opening up CarPlay to third-party voice assistants will give companies like OpenAI, Google and Anthropic direct access to Apple's in-car platform, but as you would expect, the iPhone maker is taking a cautious approach when it comes to safety and system control. On top of that, third-party chatbot interactions must remain consistent with Apple's focus on reducing distracted driving. Still, allowing external AI chatbots in marks a significant shift for Apple as it gives CarPlay users the choice of speaking to the chatbot of their liking instead of being limited to Siri as before. In addition to providing access to third-party AI assistants, Apple CarPlay will also support in-car video playback for select apps, including the Apple TV app. Mind you, this feature will only be available when the vehicle is parked for obvious safety reasons. This update will give passengers new entertainment options while waiting in a stationary car. View the full article

Can a Tesla Replace a Police Tahoe? One Texas Department Is About to Find Out
Tesla has been having a tough time in the US, with sales continuing to decline. While EV interest has slowed across the US, one Texas police department is still willing to test the idea in the real world. The Murphy Police Department is adding two patrol-ready Tesla Model Y Juniper units to its fleet, converted by UP.FIT. Over the next year, the department will evaluate whether these compact electric SUVs can realistically replace existing patrol vehicles like the Ford Explorer and Chevrolet Tahoe from both an operational and financial perspective. Why Murphy PD Is Betting On Electric Patrol Cars YouTube @Unplugged Performance YouTube @Unplugged Performance YouTube @Unplugged Performance The idea started when Lieutenant McCarty pitched the concept to the chief of police before taking it to the city council. After researching options, the Model Y Juniper emerged as a viable candidate, partly because of its promising lower maintenance and fuel costs. Safety also played a role in the discussion, although the topic remains complicated. Several lawsuits related to failing door handles in Tesla vehicles have kept scrutiny high, fatal Autopilot crashes are not unheard of, and Germany’s TÜV Report 2026 found that one in six Model Ys failed serious safety inspections. Still, the department believes a controlled trial will provide clearer answers. Patrol-Ready Model Y Costs The Same As A Tahoe YouTube @Unplugged Performance YouTube @Unplugged Performance YouTube @Unplugged Performance Surprisingly, the Model Y patrol builds come in at roughly the same cost as a typical Tahoe-based police vehicle. These Model Ys are far from standard crossovers. UP.FIT, a branch of Unplugged Performance that modifies Teslas for government fleets, fitted them with a full suite of police hardware. That includes a light bar, emergency lighting, sirens, PA systems, suspension revisions, forged aluminum wheels, upgraded brakes, and even ventilated seats for long shifts. Inside, there is a half-cage for mounting weapons and shields, along with a full prisoner cage and numerous dash cameras. A Future With Tesla and The Police YouTube @Unplugged Performance YouTube @Unplugged Performance Tesla Putting whatever bias you have regarding EVs and Musk aside, from a practical standpoint, EVs make sense for city patrol work. Police vehicles often idle for long periods and operate within limited distances rather than covering highway-level mileage. If Murphy’s trial proves successful, expansion is possible. Tesla’s recently introduced $59,990 dual-motor AWD Cybertruck could also become a candidate. But we can't ignore the coincidence: Murphy PD adopting an all-electric patrol fleet – RoboCop, anyone? Supreme Court Rules Against Trump Tariffs — But Automakers Aren’t Off the Hook
Still Driving Through UncertaintyThe tariffs imposed by the Trump administration sent the automotive industry into turmoil, particularly for brands like Audi that lack local manufacturing in the U.S. Now, although the Supreme Court recently ruled 6–3 that many of the president’s tariffs issued under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) were illegal, the sector could continue facing ongoing trade pressures. According to Automotive News, the tariffs on imported vehicles and auto parts were imposed under Section 232, not the IEEPA. That distinction matters: while businesses affected by tariffs issued under IEEPA – which the Supreme Court ruled unlawful – may attempt to seek refunds, a process expected to be a “mess,” automakers will continue to face import duties under Section 232. Getty Images A Record of ReceiptsThe report stated that the federal government has collected about $314.4 billion in total duties, taxes, and fees since the start of 2025, with approximately $133.5 billion generated under the emergency powers law. Car buyers don’t pay the tariffs directly, though automakers are absorbing much of the added cost. Over the long term, however, the import duties have placed sustained pressure on brands that rely heavily on overseas production, prompting some to consider expanding or establishing manufacturing operations in the U.S. But not all are rushing to localize. General Motors, for instance, continues to import the South Korea–built Chevrolet Trax, choosing to manage the import tax amid strong U.S. sales. In response to the Supreme Court ruling, Trump announced a new 10-percent global tariff – later raised to 15 percent – set to last up to 150 days, though it exempts vehicles and auto parts already subject to Section 232 tariffs. Chase Bierenkoven Staying Competitive at HomeThe evolving tariff landscape has prompted calls for automakers and suppliers to strengthen their North American integration under the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA), emphasizing that deeper regional cooperation is critical to maintaining global competitiveness, particularly as Chinese automakers continue expanding their presence in international markets. A Toyota North America spokesperson said in a statement, “We are eager to see a renewed USMCA that strengthens North American competitiveness and delivers great certainty for the industry.” It remains unclear how the trade frameworks the U.S. has reached with key automotive exporters – including the European Union, Japan, and South Korea – will play out in the wake of the Supreme Court’s 6–3 ruling. However, the report noted that the decision is expected to provide financial relief for many companies affected by the emergency-based tariffs and improve supply chain visibility, particularly across Asia-based sourcing networks. Why Music Producers Are Finishing Tracks Inside Cadillacs
Cadillac has earned a reputation for being America’s benchmark luxury brand. Even as rivals like Lincoln and Lucid Motors push into the premium space, the marque continues to redefine what a high-end cabin experience means. Lately, that effort has moved beyond materials, screens, and tech into sound. At a recent experience at the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), music producers used the so-called “Car Test” inside modern Cadillacs to help decide when a track is truly finished. Not only is Cadillac branching out into Formula 1, but it might even step into the music world. What Is The "Car Test"? Cadillac The Car Test is simple in theory. Producers play a newly mixed track in a car to hear how it translates outside a controlled studio. Vehicles remain one of the most common places people listen to music, so the cabin easily reveals issues with balance, bass response, or spatial placement, especially those that feature Dolby Atmos. In essence, Dolby Atmos is an advanced surround-sound system that can highlight minute imperfections that might slip by in traditional mixing setups. Dobly Atmos has become a staple feature for luxury automakers, with Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi all offering Atmos-equipped cabins. 45-Minute Recording Session Cadillac At the NAMM gathering, artists were challenged to record and mix a song in just 45 minutes. Producer Moritz Braun led the session, with musicians including Malavika and Biako involved in the recording. The finished track was then played inside the Cadillac Escalade IQ and Cadillac Optiq, where they picked up layers and textures they had not fully noticed in the studio. The immersive cabin helped highlight spatial balance and other subtle elements they didn't pick up in the studio. Cars Are Becoming Part Of The Creative Process Cadillac Many still see cars as simple point A to point B appliances. But thanks to modern tech, cars can become tools to help producers fine-tune their tracks. In ultra-luxurious cars like the Cadillac Escalade IQ, which features up to a 42-speaker AKG Studio Reference audio system, the Car Test remains valuable. It seems like cars are becoming part of the creative process behind music, rather than just the place where you eventually hear the song. View the full article

Before the Model T, Henry Ford Failed Twice — And One Company Became Cadillac
The Car That Changed AmericaFord has introduced countless models over the years, yet the Model T – unveiled in the early 1900s – remains iconic to this day. It stands among the best-selling cars of all time, alongside the Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Beetle. But before the Model T achieved legendary status, company founder Henry Ford endured two failed business ventures roughly 125 years ago, fighting to bring his vision of an affordable car for the masses to life. After building his first vehicle – the Quadricycle – in 1896, Henry Ford left the Edison Illuminating Company three years later to co-found the Detroit Automobile Company, where he served as chief engineer. He soon realized the cars were too slow to produce, which caused the company to struggle financially. In 1901, stockholders ultimately decided to dissolve the business. Ford A Vision in ConflictHis second failed venture was the Henry Ford Company, established shortly after he secured financial backing following a race victory at a track in the Detroit suburb of Grosse Pointe in October 1901. However, internal conflicts – particularly over the direction of the company and its focus on building race cars – led Ford to leave. After his departure, the company was reorganized and eventually renamed Cadillac. A year later, Henry Ford partnered with several investors to establish Ford Motor Company. Before the Model T debuted in 1908, the company introduced models such as the Model A and the Model K – the latter aimed at wealthier buyers. The Model T marked Ford’s mass market breakthrough and, over nearly two decades of production, went on to sell more than 15 million units. Ford The Spirit Lives OnToday, Ford Motor Company remains one of the top-selling brands in the United States, led by the F-Series ≠ consistently among the best-selling vehicles alongside the Toyota RAV4 and Chevrolet Silverado. The Blue Oval also continues to offer the Mustang, originally introduced in 1964. Now in its seventh generation (S650), the pony car is available in multiple configurations, including track-only machines and high-performance variants such as the Mustang Dark Horse. Henry Ford’s ambition to go racing lives on today, with the company campaigning the Mustang in GT3 competition and serving as the engine technical partner of Red Bull Racing in Formula 1. Had he not pushed forward with his vision 125 years ago, despite repeated setbacks, Ford Motor Company might not have evolved into the global powerhouse it is today. Ford’s New EV Shifter Could Control Nearly Everything in the Car
The Blue Oval plans to launch the first product of its innovative new Universal EV Platform next year, and the automaker is pushing for each vehicle on this platform to be as efficient as possible. A new patent discovered by The Drive highlights how Ford's guiding principles for these new EVs might be put into practice, describing a shifter that may not only simulate the experience of changing gears with a stick but also serve as an interface responsible for altering drive modes, among other potential applications. See, Ford wants to make cars more efficient by cutting out parts that are unnecessary and adding parts that serve multiple purposes. "The best part is no part," says Ford, adding, "The second-best part is one that performs multiple functions." Ford's "Shifter" Patent Is Weird Mecum Auctions The patent, filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, describes a system in which a knob and shaft are used to access different settings that might be attributed to torque curves of an EV (essentially simulating shifts with an electric powertrain). But if Ford is so keen on minimizing complexity, why add a lever that can only perform one task, even if it may help enhance engagement for the driver? Well, the crown of the knob may be a movable bezel that could change the mode of the shifter from simulating gear changes to something entirely different. Thus, the patent says that while one subset of pathways could control power delivery settings, one or more other virtual pathways could be used to adjust "e-brake conditions, pitch settings, yaw settings, steering angles, acceleration, deceleration, vehicle lock/unlock settings, display controls, gaming controls, aerodynamic settings, camera settings, accessory settings, and drive mode." USPTO View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article In other words, Ford envisions the "shift" stick being used as a physical interface for selecting various other functions beyond what is traditionally associated with the lever in the middle of the car. Instead of scrolling through submenus on a touchscreen or having a set of physical buttons to engage with the infotainment system or vehicle settings, this do-it-all lever would be capable of simulating gear shifts in one mode, and with the rotation of the bezel, access other modes to become responsible for adjusting volume, changing drive mode, deploying an active spoiler, controlling the door locks, changing a surround-view camera angle, or any other function deemed appropriate. It may even be used as a joystick for an in-car gaming system. A Clever Idea, But Users May Balk at a Multifunction "Shifter" Ford This tech would fit with Ford's ethos that unavoidably necessary components should perform more than just their primary function, and developing a single component with several applications makes sense for cost savings and long-term quality control. Develop something once, develop it well, and use it over and over again. In an off-roader, for example, this shifter could switch from 4x2 to 4x4, lock differentials, and be used to interact with the screen in the dash. In a sports car, this same piece of hardware could be used to simulate shifts, adjust an electronic limited-slip differential, increase steering angle for a drift mode, and select the level of intervention from the traction control system. It might even simulate a hydraulic e-brake. In an entry-level city car, this stick and knob could be used to lock doors and increase the fan speed of the air-conditioning system. There are multiple possible applications, but because of this universal potential, the stick could prove confusing for users. Of course, an EV is meant to feel futuristic, and any new product comes with a learning curve, but learning how to use something like this may be too time-consuming for most drivers. Perhaps for these reasons, this patent may never be applied to production vehicles, but time will tell. View the full article

Mercedes Reimagines Its Wildest Race Car as a Modern Luxury Sedan
Der Rote SauWhen building race cars, it's ideal to use something lightweight and compact. You want something that's agile and light on its feet, and bulk easily blunts performance and potential. That said, the Germans have an odd habit of turning their barges into tracked weapons. Audi once raced the sizable V8 in DTM and actually beat flyweights such as the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz 190E. BMW, its South African division at least, took to the track with the extremely rare 745i. As for Mercedes-Benz, it didn't officially race the S-Class' predecessor; instead, AMG took the 300 SEL 6.3, bored the engine to 6.8 liters, and won the 1971 24 Hours of Spa. Finished in a bright shade of red, it was nicknamed rote sow or red sow, but pretty much everyone who speaks English calls it the Red Pig. While people wax lyrical about it, it actually scored just one win, but its sheer presence meant it's still being talked about to this day. The Red Pig also helped put AMG on the map and, well, look where we are today. Mercedes-Benz Reimagining the IconThe Red Pig's impact and legacy are still felt in Mercedes-Benz's motorsports efforts. Back in 2021, several of the company's race cars wore that specific shade of red, but in smaller models, of course. However, since the car was retired in 1972, no other large Mercedes-Benz sedan has worn those colors. That didn't stop former Mercedes-Benz design chief Gorden Wagener from drumming up a modern interpretation, though. He recently dug through his personal archives and shared his reimagined take on the Red Pig. It's safe to say that it isn't just the new-look S-Class with bright red paint. Gorden Wagener/Instagram RetrofuturisticWagener's Red Pig doesn't just take cues from the W109 300 SEL. Of course, the stacked headlights and upright grille are a nod to the original model, but we also see some lines from the W112 300 SE Coupe. Then again, both appear similar at a passing glance, even if they were entirely different vehicles. There's a bit of a hot rod vibe going on with the chopped roof, and the wide shoulders appear inspired by the smaller W120 'Ponton' models. As for the rear, it looks rather, er, interesting. The top half is almost flat, like the W109, but done in a way that also combines elements from the Ponton. Also, those low tail lights are a nod to the past. Of course, the (virtual) car is finished in the same shade of red from the '70s. Even the placement of the decals has been replicated for maximum effect. One thing we'd like to see in real-life are the wheels. Those classic five-spoke AMGs would look great on modern models. Instagram/Gorden Wagener Where is the Original Red Pig Now?Unlike most race cars, the Red Pig's fate was rather tragic. New regulations at the time meant the car was forced out of motorsport. Blame it on engine size restrictions, but its 6.8-liter was deemed too large. It didn't help that finding tires for it was a challenge. With no other series to enter it with, AMG was left with a car it couldn't use. Instead of keeping it, the company sold it to Matra. It was then stretched out, and its floor was cut open to serve as a test bed for aircraft equipment such as landing gear. The car's actual fate is still unknown, but it was reportedly scrapped in the '90s. An unglamorous end to a race-winning car. The car you see touring around is actually a mere replica of the race winner. Still, that doesn't diminish the legacy of the car. Without the Red Pig, AMG could've just become another aftermarket company for Mercedes-Benz, and the idea of sports car-baiting luxury sedans might have picked up by someone else, or worse, might not have taken off.
