  1. A new Toyota SUV test prototype was spotted undergoing testing in Thailand, and all signs point to it being the next-generation Fortuner body-on-frame SUV. For more than two decades, the rugged Toyota Hilux midsize pickup has had an SUV sidekick in the guise of the Fortuner in markets including India, southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. It used to be available in Australia as well, but it was retired from the market last year over poor sales. Meet the 3-Row SUV Version of the New Hilux The three-row Fortuner will soon enter its third generation, taking after the recently launched ninth-gen Hilux pickup on which it is based. While the prototype you see in these photos is fully camouflaged, the design cues borrowed from the new Hilux are hard to miss. The front end appears to feature very similar slim LED headlights and the same grille seen on the 2026 Hilux, with the side view largely following the design of the double cab Hilux up to the C-pillar—with a small difference in that the Fortuner's belt line rises suddenly before crossing the rear passenger windows. Obviously, the Fortuner has a typical SUV format with two additional side windows and a tailgate instead of the Hilux's truck bed. Another difference from the Hilux, which has vertical taillights, is that the Fortuner has horizontal full-width lamps. Inside, the new Fortuner will expected to adopt a similar dashboard as the 2026 Hilux, which features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch central infotainment screens. The Fortuner will offer a total of seven seats on three rows, and is expected to get updated advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The Same Rugged IMV Ladder-Frame Platform Lives On Underneath Toyota The upcoming Toyota Fortuner carry on with the same IMV platform shared with the Hilux, which means that it will offer gas and mild-hybrid diesel powertrains, with a battery electric version also possible, though not confirmed. The platform also supports a hydrogen fuel-cell variant, which is currently in development and will debut in 2028 on the Hilux. As you probably know, the new Hilux offers an all-electric version, a first for the nameplate. It features a 59.2-kWh lithium-ion battery powering two electric motors with a combined 193 hp and 349 lb-ft of torque. The Hilux BEV has a targeted WLTP range of up to 160 miles, a 1,576-lb payload and a towing rating of up to 3,527 lbs. While a BEV version is unconfirmed for the Fortuner, the SUV will be available with a 201-hp 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel featuring a 48-volt mild-hybrid setup. A 164-hp 2.7-liter four-cylinder gas engine may also be offered. According to Thailand's Car250 (via Electrek), the next-generation Toyota Fortuner will debut in Thailand by the end of 2026, spreading to its traditional markets shortly after. Unsurprisingly, the United States will not get the Fortuner, as our market doesn’t get the Hilux either. View the full article
  2. Chris Gabehart, Spire Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing contested their first day in court on Friday afternoon in the Western District of North Carolina where oral arguments over a restraining order were heard but not ruled upon. JGR is seeking a temporary restraining order against Gabehart, its former competition director who recently took the Chief Motorsports Officer job at Spire, amidst a ...Keep readingView the full article
  3. Despite 1,064 horsepower in a factory Corvette ZR1, the aftermarket always wants more, and after Burger Motorsports managed to wire in its JB4PRO system to get 1,170 wheel horsepower on 100-octane race fuel, HP Tuners has now broken into the ZR1's advanced new Bosch ECM (different from the Stingray but shared with the Z06) to deliver even more. 1,180 whp and 1,094 lb-ft of torque, to be exact, and the only mechanical change is a pair of high-flow downpipes, with 109-octane race fuel supporting the effort. At this point, you might be thinking that the ZR1's 5.5-liter LT7 twin-turbo V8 must be a highly-strung engine just to achieve stock figures, and pushing its limits is not wise. True. But HP Tuners knows what it's doing. HP Tuners Unlocks More from the ZR1 with Careful Calibration Chevrolet As noted by Car and Driver, a lengthy and detailed Facebook post from Matt Sanford of HP Tuners explains how careful one needs to be when tuning the LT7 for both power and reliability. He says that, while some tuners may soon promise even higher figures, the HP Tuners software increases output by roughly 15 percent in the middle of the rev range and 10 percent on the top end without risking heat. Sure, peak output can spike, but that increases heat. Yes, the turbos have an official limit of 137,000 rpm, and that may well be conservative, but pushing too far could lead to insufficient fueling or cause clutch slippage. Matt claims HP Tuners' software does neither on the dyno nor on the road. You can watch the dyno run of the tuned ZR1, which is owned by Cleetus McFarland, here. Related: I Talked to Travis Pastrana and Cleetus McFarland About NASCAR, YouTube, and Who's the Better Driver For the record, the stock ZR1's crank figures translate to around 904 hp and 704 lb-ft at the wheels, assuming a 15 percent driveline loss. Performance figures for the naturally aspirated LT6 in HP Tuners' tuned Z06 have not yet been disclosed, but we assume the stock figure (670 hp at the crank) will have been vastly exceeded, likely well beyond 700 hp. Tuning a ZR1 Safely Sounds Scary Matt Sanford/Matthew Christian According to C&D, tuning the Bosch ECM requires a bench flash from HP Tuners. Once reinstalled in your ZR1, the car's nervous system can be calibrated, logged, and scanned using HP Tuners' MPVI4 OBD-II system with VCM Suite software on a Windows computer. Because this is such a new system, only a beta version of the software is available, but now that a way into the ECM has been found, it won't be long before it's refined for a full release (and before others experiment and find any shortcomings). The ECM upgrade will set you back $1,499 on its own, and then you need 10 "Universal Credits," or tuning tokens, at $49,99 each to download the new coding. Still, just shy of $2,000 isn't bad for near-ZR1X power. Speaking of, we can't wait to see how much can be extracted from the hybrid once tuners learn how to correctly calibrate everything there. And once more meaningful mechanical upgrades are developed, the prospects will be truly tantalizing. Bugatti power in a Chevy? We're here for it. View the full article
  4. We Ain't Seen Nothing YetAutomakers could soon begin raising vehicle prices as mounting tariff costs continue to strain profitability, according to aCNBCreport citing comments from dealership giant Sonic Automotive during a recent earnings call. Company president Jeff Dyke warned investors that manufacturers absorbing billions in added costs may no longer be able to shield consumers from the financial impact. Tariffs imposed on imported vehicles and auto parts have so far had only a modest effect on showroom pricing. Analysts estimate vehicle prices have risen roughly 1% since implementation. However, those limited increases hide significant financial pressure behind the scenes. Major automakers, including General Motors and Toyota Motor Corporation, absorbed billions of dollars in tariff-related expenses throughout 2025. Similar costs are expected to continue into 2026. Industry analysts say automakers initially relied on internal cost controls, production adjustments, and selective pricing strategies to avoid widespread sticker shocks. Higher-end models appear to have received targeted price increases while incentives and entry-level pricing remained competitive. Executives now suggest sustained losses are no longer viable. Broader pricing adjustments could begin appearing by mid-2026 as affordability pressures grow across the market. Getty Tariff Relief UnlikelyAlthough the U.S. Supreme Court recently struck down portions of President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariffs, relief for car buyers appears unlikely in the near term. Sector-specific automotive tariffs remain in place. Manufacturers continue to face elevated import costs tied to global supply chains and North American production networks. Market behavior already reflects consumer concern about potential price increases. Even before widespread adjustments took place, shoppers began changing their purchasing strategies. Many buyers shifted toward base trims, delayed purchases, or moved into the used-vehicle market. Analysts observed a surge in interest in used cars shortly after tariffs were announced, as consumers anticipated major price hikes. Automakers also face structural limitations that prevent quick production shifts. Many U.S. assembly plants already operate near maximum capacity. This limits the ability to relocate overseas production to the domestic market. Trade negotiations connected to the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement are expected later this year. Those decisions may determine whether manufacturers expand U.S. production or continue managing tariff exposure through pricing changes and cost reductions. Getty Images Prices Could Rise Soon“The tariffs are too high on some of these brands, and they’re going to pass pricing on,” Sonic Automotive president Jeff Dyke said on the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call. “It’s already happening.” His comments reflect a growing industry consensus that automakers cannot indefinitely absorb multi-billion-dollar tariff expenses. The expected outcome is gradual rather than sudden. Automakers may introduce higher MSRPs, reduce incentives, or remove certain features to stabilize margins. Combined with already elevated transaction prices, even modest increases could further push buyers toward entry-level models or out of the new-car market entirely. If tariff conditions remain unchanged through 2026, consumers may soon begin feeling costs that automakers have so far absorbed internally. View the full article
  5. A Colorful Motorsports CareerWith its diminutive size and go-kart-like handling, it was inevitable that the Mini would eventually enter motorsports. In the '60s, not only did it find success on the race tracks, but it also bagged several wins in the world of rallying. The Mini's biggest wins came from the Monte Carlo Rally. It took the top step of the podium in 1964, 1965, and 1967. Paddy Hopkirk won it in '64, Timo Mäkinen in '65, and Rauno Aaltonen in '67. Mini could have won in '66 to make it four in a row, but was disqualified due to, get this, non-factory headlight bulbs. Ironically, it just made people root for the plucky little car more the following year. Mini Banking on HeritageMini isn't exactly shy about flaunting its heritage. If anything, it keeps playing that card, along with countless other pop culture references. Call it playful marketing, but it keeps interest strong and the brand relevant. So, unsurprisingly, Mini has yet another special edition model this year. Dubbed the 1965 Victory Edition, it's a design package that celebrates, you guessed it, the brand's win in the Monte Carlo Rally that same year. Oddly enough, this edition comes out a year after the milestone event. Perhaps it's Mini's way of also commemorating the win that got away in '66. Well, we'd be incredibly bitter too if we were disqualified over headlight bulbs. Mini The PackageThis special commemorative model is available for the John Cooper Works, John Cooper Works Electric, and Cooper S models, but only for those outside the U.S. For the American market, it's only available in the John Cooper Works. As for the car, the body is draped in Chili Red paintwork and complemented by a white roof and a single white stripe on the hood and tailgate. It also gets a subtle 1965 sticker on the C-pillar to discreetly remind onlookers that this is a limited edition model. Then again, the number 52 decal (which looks more like a 53 if you ask us) puts away any doubt that this is a special model. Those digits are significant as those were the numbers of the winning car. Mini Other Details and PricingOf course, you're greeted by the usual red and white theme seen in most JCW Minis. But what this edition gets is more reminders of the Monte Carlo winner. There's no shortage of 1965 decals and badges inside, from the door sill kick plates to the center console. Another thoughtful touch is the special plaque on the inside edge of the door to commemorate the historic rally. It bears the names of Timo Mäkinen and his co-driver, Paul Easter, as well as the license plate of the car they drove, AJB 44B. A special key cap exclusive to this model then bears the number 52. There are no upgrades to the chassis or engine; it's still powered by a 2.0-liter turbo with 228 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. As for pricing, it's $46,220 plus $1,175 destination and handling. 7. The 2027 Audi RS 5 has been revealed in both sedan and wagon forms, each with more power than even the mighty V8 RS 6 or the RS 5's arch-rival from Munich, the 503-horsepower BMW M3. Audi's new 630-hp plug-in hybrid has plenty of grunt, a clever new differential, and a hefty curb weight on the dark side of 5,100 pounds. But none of these characteristics are drawing as much attention on Reddit as the styling, with several fans mocking the unusually large exhaust tips. Some have also taken issue with the front-end styling, while others have shown how attractive a two-door coupe might be. Reddit Fans Troll Audi RS 5 Exhaust Tips with Hilarious Edits Reddit View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article One Reddit thread titled "The new RS 5 is starting to grow on me" reimagines the RS 5 with exhaust tips so large that they intrude into the trunk. This was so popular that other users got in on the act with increasingly ludicrous Photoshop edits of the car, including one where the dual exhausts were so large that the rear of the car was totally engulfed, and another where the whole car became a singular exhaust tip. Another edit, seen at the top of this article, exaggerates the exhaust setup by not only enlarging the dual-exit setup but also adding another pair of massive exhaust tips for a total of four. I even saw one edit where the exhaust tips were arranged like the interlocking rings of the Audi logo, but this appears to have since been deleted. What a shame. To cleanse your mental palate, the original RS 5's rear end is below. Audi In light of these edits, does the OEM setup still feel like a caricature of itself? Let us know in the comments. But before you do, let's see what else some Audi fans don't like about the new RS 5, starting with the front fascia and ending with a render of the sports sedan as a coupe. Don't worry, these are less sarcastic suggestions. Reddit Users Suggest a More Familiar Face and an RS 5 Coupe Reddit Seeing the new RS 5's front end, the first thing that hits you is that there's a lot of black plastic, and the gaping grille looks almost catfish-like. While some body-color framing might be welcome, a Reddit user pointed out that having the Audi rings intersect with bodywork may have been a mistake. But perhaps Audi has chosen to place its logo where it has to draw more attention to it so that non-enthusiasts can more easily identify the brand. Either way, this user also bemoans the loss of the black strip between the headlights, arguing that the car looks more generic as a result. On Instagram, somebody has rendered the RS 5 as a coupe, which Audi has confirmed will not happen, and thus, neither will a convertible. Still, this edit looks clean, and there's no doubt the RS 5 coupe would look stunning if it were ever manifested. Ultimately, these arguments about the new way Ingolstadt designed its RS 5 call to mind the BMW debacle over the massive buck-tooth grille. That has grown on many enthusiasts, and with arguably less egregious aesthetic discretions at Audi, I don't doubt that enthusiasts will come to embrace the RS 5's looks, too. In spite of the big exhaust tips and gaping mouth, it's an athletic-looking machine, even if its curb weight figure suggests otherwise. Audi/j.b.cars/Instagram View the full article
  8. Electronically operated ‘hidden’ door handles have been in the news a lot lately after China passed a law earlier this month banning them over safety concerns. Now, an official report into the fatal crash of a Xiaomi EV in the Chinese city of Chengdu has illustrated why that move’s been made, as the failure of its electronic door releases has been deemed responsible for the driver’s death. Driver Trapped by Failed DoorsThe incident in question took place on October 13 2025, when a Xiaomi SU7 was involved in a single-car crash in Chengdu. Following the impact, the car caught fire, and the driver – a 31-year-old man named Deng, according to Car News China– was trapped in the burning vehicle. The official report from local authorities states that the car was travelling at around 104 mph at the time of the collision, and that the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Video captured of the crash’s aftermath shows several bystanders attempting to rescue the driver, both by pulling on the SU7’s electronic door releases, which are concealed behind flush-fitting handles, and by attempting to break the window. The door releases are thought to have lost power after the fire broke out, and with no mechanical backup release on the outside, the driver ultimately perished. Not the First Incident Tesla Flush-fitting door handles – either ones with a recess like the SU7’s, or pop-out items like the ones found on Teslas and plenty of other modern cars – have been growing in popularity in the car industry over the last few years. That’s in part because they allow designers to sculpt cleaner, less cluttered surfaces, and partly because they allow for aerodynamic gains – particularly important in the world of EVs. However, safety concerns have long been raised around the sort that rely on electricity to operate for this exact reason – and this incident is far from the only one to highlight the danger. A Bloomberg report last year identified at least 15 fatal incidents involving Teslas alone where electronic door releases failed to open after crashes or fires. China Takes Action – Will Others Follow? Cadillac Earlier this month, China became the first country to officially take action on flush door handles, introducing a law banning them that’ll come into effect for new models introduced from January 1 2027. All cars introduced from then must have a mechanical release accessible from both inside and outside the car, and while semi-hidden releases will still be allowed, the recessed area to access them must measure at least 2.4 by 0.8 inches. While China is the only country so far to officially ban this controversial design, the law will likely have knock-on effects globally as plenty of EVs from other countries are sold in China, and Chinese cars are increasingly prevalent in other global markets. When hard evidence like this Xiaomi crash exists, it’s hard to imagine that other countries won’t follow suit anyway. View the full article
  9. Stellantis reported its financials for 2025 this week, and the results made for grim reading, with the company reporting a $26.3-billion net loss. In the same report, Stellantis quietly confirmed sales of the Maserati brand for last year, and things didn’t go well for the Italian marque either. Even for a niche brand, Maserati’s global sales of 7,900 units were a disappointment. This is a 30% decline over 2024 and paints a bleak picture of the brand’s future. More worryingly, Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa initially deflected questions about whether the underperforming brand will be sold, amid persistent rumors this could happen. Lowest Maserati Sales Since 2012 Maserati The 7,900 vehicles sold by Maserati in 2025 are a notable decline from the 11,300 cars it sold in 2024. In 2017, Maserati sold over 51,000 vehicles, but it has never been able to match those numbers again. 2025’s sales also marks the lowest sales total for the Italian marque since 2012, when it sold 6,288 vehicles. A comparison with rival brands only highlights Maserati’s predicament. Ferrari sold 13,640 cars last year, just 112 units behind its 2024 performance. Lamborghini has gone from strength to strength, setting a new record with 10,747 vehicles sold last year. While the GranTurismo has all the grace and glamor expected of a Maserati, the brand could do with a more competitive SUV. The Grecale is fun to drive, but it’s extremely expensive next to other compact crossovers, including the Porsche Macan. The MCPura is stunning and exhilarating, but will never be a volume seller the way a strong SUV could. This leaves Maserati without a single model to get its sales back on track. Related: I Drove The 2026 Maserati MCPura, Here’s My Honest Review Stellantis CEO Hints at Uncertain Maserati Future Maserati Rumors of Maserati being up for sale continue, and Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa did nothing to change that at the company’s corporate earnings announcement this week. Asked whether the sale of Maserati was happening, he didn’t answer the question directly. "The overall organizational strategy for Stellantis, starting from H2 of 2025, has been to increase the level of regionalization, since we strongly believe we are a strong global company with even stronger regional roots," said Filosa according to CarBuzz. The comments suggest Maserati will be placing more emphasis on regional operations, which will align it with other Stellantis brands. Asked more pointedly about Maserati’s standing within the Stellantis group, Filosa said: “For details on Maserati, as on all the brand portfolios, I will invite you to attend our investor day on May 21.” While Filosa avoided answering the question directly, a Maserati spokesperson later confirmed that “Maserati is not for sale and remains the only luxury brand within the Stellantis portfolio.” One has to wonder why Filosa wasn’t more forthcoming when the topic was originally broached in the earnings call, but Maserati’s long-term future should become clearer at Stellantis’ investor day in May. For now, one of the industry’s most evocative brands faces an uncertain period, but there isn’t a gearhead around who doesn’t want to see Maserati’s fortunes turn around. 10. HR-V Gets a Butch Glow-upHonda has revealed a partially updated version of the Honda ZR-V in Japan, the model sold in the US as the Honda HR-V. The refreshed SUV introduces a revised grade structure, expanded hybrid offerings, and new special-edition variants aimed at premium and outdoor-focused buyers. The updated ZR-V is scheduled to launch in Japan in late March 2026, with advance reservations already open in its home market. The ZR-V lineup is now fully hybrid, with every variant powered by Honda’s e:HEV system. Higher trims receive a Honda CONNECT infotainment system with Google built-in services, including Google Maps navigation, Google Assistant voice control, and Google Play integration. Honda also expands Honda SENSING with a sudden acceleration suppression function designed to improve safety during low-speed driving situations. Keeping Up with Demand StrongThe updated ZR-V lineup has three hybrid variants. The standard e:HEV Z serves as the technology-rich core model, featuring a Google-equipped 9-inch Honda CONNECT display, Bose 12-speaker premium audio system, 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, heated steering wheel, leather seating, multi-view camera system, and multiple drive modes including Sport, Econ, Normal, and Snow. Comfort features such as dual-zone climate control, rear ventilation, powered seats, and a hands-free power tailgate reinforce its near-premium positioning. Building on this, the Black Style adds a darker visual identity with a honeycomb grille, black exterior trim pieces, dark wheels, and Ultrasuede-combined seating, along with a black roof liner. The new Cross Touring variant introduces a more rugged personality with exclusive bumpers, protective cladding, matte gray grille treatment, and a distinctive greige interior finished with orange stitching and matte black wheels. Together, the variants expand the ZR-V’s appeal from urban premium crossover to lifestyle-oriented compact SUV. The Japanese update follows the recent refresh of the U.S.-market HR-V for the 2026 model year. Demand has remained strong despite supply challenges affecting Honda throughout 2025. SUVs and electrified models helped stabilize sales performance, highlighting growing consumer interest in hybrid-powered crossovers. Honda View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article HR-V in the U.S.The HR-V remains one of Honda’s most important entry SUVs in America. It offers accessible pricing while delivering practicality typically expected from larger crossovers. Flexible cargo space, comfort, and everyday usability continue to drive strong consumer interest in the HR-V, making it one of the brand's more popular models despite supply concerns. Whether these hybrid variants or lifestyle-focused trims, such as Cross Touring, will make their way to the U.S. remains an open question. Still, the updates from Japan give enthusiasts plenty of reason to be optimistic, and we are excited to see how Honda continues to evolve its compact SUV lineup. Honda View the full article
  11. Letting your car's gas tank run on near-empty is usually a red flag, but following a new recall, doing so may actually be safer. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek hybrid and the 2025 Subaru Forester hybrid have a fault with their fuel tanks that could cause a fire, and owners are encouraged to park outside until the Japanese automaker addresses it next month. 69,153 vehicles over the two nameplates are affected, and to avoid risk, it's best not to fill the gas tank to capacity. Fortunately, this will be a relatively easy fix, as the electrified part of the powertrain is not to blame for this recall. Let's take a more detailed look at the problem and how Subaru intends to resolve it. Full Tanks, Temperature Increases, and Faulty Filler Caps Lead to Subaru Hybrid Recall Subaru View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article According to the recall reports (here and here), U.S. versions of the 2026 Crosstrek hybrid and 2025 Forester hybrid were found to leak fuel from their filler caps, prompting Subaru to investigate in December last year. What the automaker discovered is that when vehicles are left parked with a fuel tank near capacity, a "significant" increase in ambient temperature can cause the fuel tank to expand. This increases pressure therein, pushing gasoline up the filler neck, and due to an insufficient seal on the fuel cap assembly, gas may then leak out of the filler neck. Should there be an ignition source, this could ultimately cause a fire. Related: Toyota Is Offering $6,500 Off Its bZ Woodland — But Subaru Still Undercuts It Since we're still technically in winter, this shouldn't be too scary a problem for owners in most parts of the country, and Subaru says that although it is aware of 33 technical reports in the U.S. market at this time, it is not aware of any fires or injuries related to the issue. In fact, this is a voluntary recall, so Subaru is playing it safe before anything bad does happen. How Subaru Plans to Address Hybrid Fire Risk Subaru View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article The particularly good news for owners is that the problem can easily be fixed with no more than a new and improved gasket for the fuel filler cap, one that incorporates an O-ring for a stronger seal. Dealers were already notified of the problem last week, but it'll be the end of next month when they have the required parts, with a planned remedy notification date for owners planned for March 25, five days after spring officially arrives. Until then, Subaru recommends that customers do not fill their gas tanks beyond 50%. Just don't let it run too close to empty — that's bad for the fuel pump. View the full article
  12. The 2025 Kia Telluride has been a smashing success in the United States, selling over 123,000 units last year, but for 85,448 buyers, it's just become a safety risk. According to a new recall filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the seat back frames for both front-row perches "fail to properly restrain an occupant during a crash," increasing the risk of injury. Vehicles produced from November 1, 2024, to August 8, 2025, and equipped with power front seats, suffer from a manufacturing defect that could prove hazardous in the event of certain rear-impact collisions. Audible Noise and/or Loose Seatbacks in 2025 Kia Telluride SUVs Kia The NHTSA recall report notes that occupants may discern a loose front seatback and/or hear a grinding noise when reclining, but while the report lays the blame at the feet of OEM supplier DAS North America, it does not provide details on what exactly went wrong in the manufacturing process, nor does it explain how the remedy part improves on the original design. What we do know from the chronology report is that this problem was first brought to the attention of Kia North America's Safety Office in August 2025, thanks to Kia Georgia. This was on the seventh, and over the course of the following month and a half, Kia collected and shipped faulty parts to the supplier. Throughout the first half of October, the supplier tested the faulty components and confirmed that the seats met the applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, but Kia was not satisfied. Following rear-impact sled testing, Kia HQ determined that the tested parts "did not satisfy Kia's internal performance standard." Earlier this month, the automaker's safety office found 76 unique VINs with loose front seatbacks potentially tied to the issue, though no accident, injuries, or fatalities were reported, and Kia decided to issue the recall. 2025 Kia Telluride Has Suffered from Several Recalls Kia View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article This is not the first time the 2025 Telluride has shown problems. In November last year, Kia recalled the immensely popular SUV for incorrect spare tires, an issue that, again, was discovered in Georgia. Before that, an August recall was issued to fix trim pieces that were falling off the Telluride. Fortunately, this new recall should be easy to address, though customers may be waiting a while; dealer notifications have already been sent, but the planned remedy owner notification date is only April 24. That's nearly two months away, so in the meantime, try not to get rear-ended, okay? Hopefully, the new Telluride will be less problematic. View the full article
  13. A camouflaged Toyota two-door rally car prototype has been spotted testing on a gravel rally stage in Portugal, and the intriguing thing about it is that it looks like no existing model from the automaker’s current lineup. Wearing Toyota Gazoo Racing's trademark red, black and white camouflage livery, the coupe prototype was caught on camera by rally fan Marcio Pereira, and the images and videos he took were shared on X.com and picked up by Australia's Drive. According to rally specialist website DirtFish, the images and videos of the mysterious prototype are genuine, not AI-generated. Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT Confirmed It Is Testing a New Prototype🚗 Toyota WRC27? 🎥 Márcio Pereira pic.twitter.com/xkKNzQhM8a — eWRC-results (@eWRCresults) February 26, 2026 Corroborate that with the fact that the publication got official confirmation from Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT technical director Tom Fowler that a new prototype is currently being tested, and it's pretty clear that the current GR Yaris WRC car will be replaced next year by a different model. This has got to be one of the most exciting news for Toyota fans this year, as the early prototype seen in the photos likely also previews the long-awaited next-generation production GR Celica, which has been reported to adopt a mid-engine layout for the first time in the nameplate's history. Mind you, the mid-ship configuration hasn't been confirmed by Toyota yet, and this particular rally prototype appears to be front-engined, judging from the large front air intakes and bonnet vents. It's perfectly natural to be so because WRC27 regulations for next year mandate a front-engine layout with a 1.6-liter turbo engine. Toyota must abide by these rules if it wants the upcoming Celica—or whatever model this is—to compete in the WRC; and it certainly wants to, seeing as it's testing it hard on a WRC rally stage. Premières images de la Toyota WRC27 en essais au Portugal #WRC Photos : Marcio Pereira pic.twitter.com/JLDMR9ejMn — Rallye Sport (@RallyeSport) February 26, 2026 That said, WRC27 regulations will give manufacturers more design freedom as aerodynamics will be reduced to allow for a more "playful" driving experience, increasing spectator appeal in the process. The chassis will be a common standardized tubular space frame, but manufacturers will be allowed to design various bodyworks, including production-based or bespoke concepts. This probably explains the chubby proportions of this Toyota rally prototype—the production version will most likely be lower and sleeker. Common Design Cues With the Rally Car But Radically Different Mechanical Layout? Speaking about the production model, Toyota can go for a different mechanical layout, and judging by how broad the rear wheel arches are on this prototype, it's not hard to imagine some air intakes integrated in them. The automaker will definitely want the rally car to resemble the production version as much as possible to abide by the "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" marketing mantra coined by Ford dealer Bob Tasca in the 1960s. Since Toyota chose to give its WRC27 car a coupe shape, it most likely means it will bear the iconic Celica badge, one of the brand's most successful WRC nameplates with driver's titles in 1990, 1992, 1993 and 1994, as well as manufacturers' titles in 1993 and 1994. Now, if the upcoming production Celica indeed goes mid-engined, it likely means there won't be a next-gen MR2, as the Celica and MR2 might fuse into a single model—the compact dimensions of the WRC27 prototype seen here certainly give credence to that theory. Japanese magazine Best Car claims the next Celica will use Toyota's next-generation 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine producing more than 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, without hybrid assistance. It's expected to offer AWD, but it's not clear if that will be standard or an option above a base RWD setup. Six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions are also rumored, along with carbon fiber roof, hood and decklid. The publication claims the GR Celica will debut at the 2027 Tokyo Auto Salon in January and go on sale in 2028. View the full article
  14. Rivian has announced a new in-house performance division known as RAD, short for Rivian Adventure Department. Made up of a team of designers, engineers, and enthusiasts, RAD aims to push Rivian EVs like the R1S to their limits while developing new performance features Rivian owners can enjoy. It also opens up the door for a lineup of RAD-badged models, much like BMW’s M, Hyundai’s N, or the AMG division from Mercedes. How The Rivian Adventure Department Began R The beginnings of RAD started six years ago. At that stage, Rivian hadn’t launched a vehicle yet, but it took two R1T prototypes to the southernmost tip of South America. This trip involved rigorous testing for the electric pickup. Between South America and Los Angeles, the company said that the harder it pushed its vehicles, the more fun the team had. This kicked off a philosophy of saying “yes” to any challenge, be it the Rebelle Rally or Pikes Peak. Rivian has now officially named this department of brave engineers and designers, and that’s how RAD was born. R "RAD represents the living, breathing expression of the passion that defines Rivian. That impulse to explore, to push limits, and to embrace the adventure is not confined to one team—it is the very DNA of our entire company, from the designers and engineers to our community of owners,” said Jeff Hammoud, Chief Design Officer. At the Rebelle Rally in 2023, the Rivian team’s experience in deep sand conditions contributed to the refinement of its EVs’ Soft Sand mode. Experiences at Rebelle and Pikes led to the creation of the RAD Tuner tool, whereby Gen 2 Quad owners can create their own drive modes in real-time. Presets like Desert Rally and Hill Climb are tested in the real world, allowing owners to tweak power output, torque bias, and more. RAD to Debut in Montana R RAD will make its official debut at the 2026 FAT Ice Race in Big Sky, Montana. Rivian will use the event to show off the RAD team and its new livery, while also competing in the race with the latest Quad R1S; with a motor at each wheel, this extremely powerful EV produces 1,025 horsepower and 1,198 lb-ft of torque. In ideal conditions, it can reach 60 mph in only 2.5 seconds. The livery shown by RAD in new pictures consists of bold striping in orange, red, and white. It’s a preview of what a possible production RAD model could look like if Rivian went in that direction. Given Rivian’s off-road leanings, a future R3 or R2 RAD to compete with the likes of the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally would set up one of the hottest EV face-offs. “The Rivian Adventure Department simply gives an official name and a powerful focus to the transparent, open spirit that drives every vehicle we design and every mile we seek out,” said Hammoud. “It’s a promise to never stop pushing the boundaries of adventure.” Related: Can The 2026 Rivian R1S Quad Motor Work for Families? Here's How it Worked (And Didn't) For Mine Why RAD Matters for Rivian’s Future R The new RAD department adds another dimension to Rivian’s rapid growth. After a few years with only expensive, full-size EVs, the EV maker is expanding its reach with more accessible and exciting products. The smaller R2 will launch imminently, and it’ll be followed by the even smaller and cheaper R3, both of which stand to benefit from RAD’s learnings. Genesis is doing the same with its new Magma division, and more established brands like BMW and Mercedes have been producing performance EVs for several years now. A performance division like RAD positions Rivian as an enthusiast brand—not just another EV startup building generic crossovers. 15. Power HungryAdmit it or not, the American market is spoiled when it comes to horsepower. Case in point, the U.S. never gets the true base engine. Also, most of the world is content with about 200 hp (depending on the kind of car), but America is the land of big SUVs that can hit 60 mph in the six-second range... and still consider it just right. We've seen enough reviews that say 0-60 mph in seven seconds is slow. Truth be told, most folks outside the U.S. are content with anything that does the same task in under 9 seconds. But one thing we can all agree on in this day and age is that anything over ten seconds is lethargic. Of course, we can accept that result in, say, a 1.0-liter subcompact hatchback or a 660cc kei car, but for something like a compact sedan or crossover, that's basically an eternity. That brings us neatly to the European-spec Mazda CX-5. Mazda Euro vs. American CX-5The all-new Mazda CX-5 is finally close to reaching showrooms this year after it made its world premiere in mid-2025. The folks from Hiroshima promised that there will be more powertrain choices on the way, but in the meantime, the familiar 2.5-liter engine will have to do. In the U.S., it's the SkyActiv-G engine that's familiar to most folks by now. It's carried over from the previous generation, so it still makes 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. It's par for the course for non-hybrid compact crossovers, with the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, and Subaru Forester hovering in the 180 hp range. It won't be quick, but it'll get the job done. If you think that's not enough, then wait 'til you see what the European version has to offer, or rather not. It still uses the same 2.5-liter engine, and it's been saddled by a mild-hybrid system. However, that's been, er, recalibrated for efficiency, so it makes a fair bit less power than the American model. The result, the e-SkyActiv G engine makes – are you ready for this – 139 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. America, count your blessings. Mazda Does it...Move?Of course it does, eventually. Now, 139 hp is okay for a compact or subcompact car, but in a crossover? It's a totally different matter. Bear in mind that the e-SkyActiv G engine is the only option Europeans have right now, so that lump is fitted even to the most expensive trim over there. So, when does it hit 60? In this case, Mazda lists the official 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) time for the front-wheel-drive model at a leisurely 10.5 seconds. Hook that same engine up to an all-wheel drive system, and the added weight means it gets to the same speed in 10.9 seconds. Perhaps you can shave a tenth or two for its 0 to 60 time, but there's no escaping the fact that it takes its time to reach highway speeds. At least it's not as slow as the Fiat 500 Cabriolet Hybrid that takes a glacial 17.3 seconds to 62. Mazda More Power Coming SoonBut no matter how you look at it, the new CX-5 will be slower than the model it replaces. It's bigger and heavier than its predecessor, but power figures remained the same. There's no turbo option on the cards, either, so this is as good as it gets for now. We say "for now" because Mazda has promised it will roll out a more powerful option soon. It will come in the form of the Skyactiv-Z engine and will feature an in-house-developed hybrid system. It won't be carried over from the CX-50 Hybrid that uses a Toyota-derived hybrid arrangement. Of course, Mazda isn't saying how much power it'll produce, but safe to say it'll pull the new CX-5's weight with less effort. The Skyactiv-Z engine will be available by 2027, and frankly, the Euro version needs it stat. Mazda View the full article

  17. Wondering what BMW has in store for the upcoming model year? So did we, until the brand accidentally leaked the names of its 2027 arrivals, from 2 Series coupe to 7 Series luxury limo. First noted by Motor1, the German automaker's portfolio was divulged through the BMW USA online shop, and the big news is that the long-rumored all-wheel-drive M2, or M2 xDrive, is coming soon. BMW has said that the Competition badge is being done away with, but even without it, the M2 xDrive will almost certainly only be offered with the eight-speed automatic transmission. Happily, the manual option is expected to survive a little while longer. Hot New M350 xDrive Coming, PLus New i3 and iX4 BMW USA View the 5 images of this gallery on the original article The 2027 M350 has already been spied on the Nürburgring, and the rumor mill indicates that it will retain the B58 turbocharged inline-six of the present-day M340i, though possibly with mild-hybrid assistance. Expect around 400 horsepower, up from 386 hp in the M340i. It's unclear if a rear-drive M350 will be offered, with only the xDrive version appearing in the leak. For the record, combustion-powered Bimmers are dropping the 'i' suffix to avoid confusion with all-electric models. While we're on the subject, the i3 40 xDrive and i3 50 xDrive EVs will also come to the U.S. for 2027, with similar underpinnings to the Neue Klasse iX3. The electric crossover has already appeared abroad, and North America will get access in the summer. We can also look forward to its swoopy sibling, the iX4, in 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive flavors. According to insiders, an M version is also planned to replace the gas-powered X4 M. The 'regular' X4 range has been done away with because the smaller X2 is too similar and successful. New Luxury Bimmers: X5, 7 Series BMW USA View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article The leak also confirms that a new X5 SUV will arrive for 2027 in RWD 40 sDrive configuration, with an all-elecric iX5 60 xDrive on the way too. Finally, a facelifted 7 Series (and i7) is coming to fight the heavily revised Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Sadly, the image for this vehicle is blurred, and besides the iX3 and AWD M2, no imagery has been leaked for the other vehicles, so while BMW may have let slip what's in the product pipeline, it hasn't been so careless as to show what unrevealed new and facelifted models will look like. Related: SPIED: 2027 BMW M5 Touring Gets Radical Redesign Inside and Out Among the vehicles missing from the leak are the next-gen X7 three-row SUV, which is only expected to appear in 2027 for the 2028 model year, and the departing Z4 and 8 Series, which are unlikely to be replaced for several years, if ever. Reports have indicated the latter may be merged with the 4 Series for a new 6 Series, but BMW has confirmed that the M4 will live on, so that's increasingly unlikely. Before the end of the decade, BMW's product blitz is also expected to include a new G-Class rival, and a slew of new M models are coming, too, including the electric M3. 18. The Death of Sub-$20,000 Cars in AmericaIf you take a look at any buyer's guide, you won't find a brand-new car under $20,000 anymore. The last car that fit the bill was the Nissan Versa, and that's been axed in the U.S. The new model has started production in Mexico, but there's no chance of it crossing the border. Subcompact crossovers effectively put an end to that market. Because of that, America doesn't get cars like the new Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, or Nissan Aura — subcompact econoboxes that offer more than what their diminutive dimensions suggest. That said, Japan is awash with affordable subcompact crossover choices, one of which is the Toyota Yaris Cross. Toyota A Reasonably Priced Subcompact CrossoverThe Yaris Cross has been on sale in Japan and other parts of the world for quite some time already. This year, however, it gets a bit of an update, adding more equipment and a new trim level. The price? The hybrid version starts at just ¥2,510,200 or around $16,100. If you want to go cheaper, there's the base non-hybrid model, which goes for ¥2,126,300, or just a little over $13,600. In an age where the average price of a brand-new car is in the region of $50,000, something like the Yaris Cross might be a good deal. It's smaller than a Nissan Kicks, but ever so slightly larger than the Hyundai Venue. So while the U.S. isn't so keen on small hatchbacks, pint-sized crossovers are in. Toyota It's no Penalty BoxWith those prices, you're probably expecting it to be as sparsely-equipped as a base Corolla from the '90s, but that's not the case at all. For starters, it gets advanced driver assists as standard. We're not talking about a basic package, either, as it includes adaptive cruise, emergency steer assist, rear cross-traffic alert with emergency braking, and other assists you'd find in an American-spec Lexus. It also has a five-star safety rating from Japan's New Car Assessment Program. The interior isn't half bad, either. Okay, it's likely a plastic-fest in there, but knowing Toyota, it's probably overbuilt to last several lifetimes. There isn't much in the way of blank switches, either. Seat heaters and heated side mirrors are standard in most trims, and there's wireless phone connectivity thrown in as well. That said, the 360-degree cameras are reserved for higher-spec models but are optional on lower-spec models. In other words, you can have the most basic Yaris Cross with plastic wheel covers and steelies, yet still get most of the features. Toyota Great Value Across All TrimsThe rest of the trims aren't too expensive, either. If anything, most are still below $20,000. The most expensive model we saw was the Z Adventure HEV e-Four (hybrid AWD) for ¥3,355,000 or around $21,500. By the way, that already includes Japan's relatively high taxes in the list price. For the mid-grade G HEV e-Four trim, it goes for ¥2,960,100 or just shy of $19,000. Get rid of all-wheel drive, and that drops to ¥2,712,600 or about $17,400. If you ask us, the G HEV e-Four would be our pick of the bunch. You get over 60 mpg (factory claimed), a well-equipped package, and all-wheel drive. Truth be told, though, the base X HEV model is enough for most folks, and you can still get that with all-wheel drive. The Yaris Cross Hybrid is powered by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine mated to a single motor, so it's no hot rod. Combined output is rated at just 118 hp, although some markets get a more powerful tune with a neck-snapping 130 hp. Zero Chance of Coming to AmericaIt's sad then that the Yaris Cross has no chance of coming to America. Its platform isn't homologated for the U.S., which is why the GR Yaris isn't available stateside. Still, it's sold in other major markets such as Europe, Oceania, and some parts of Asia. But let's say it's been approved for America. Another thing that gets in the way is tariffs and shipping. It's an absolute bargain in Japan, but its value proposition will quickly evaporate once all additional fees have been applied, making profit margins slimmer for Toyota. Still, the thought of low-cost, well-equipped crossover should appeal to many, and it's something cash-conscious Americans might want. It's small and not too fast, but as a point-A-to-B car, it's a promising vehicle. Perhaps it's no surprise that these are practically everywhere in Japan. 19. The past few months have brought announcements from various automakers, most notably GM, that third-party infotainment platforms CarPlay and Android Auto will no longer be supported. The reason given is that these various automakers have decided to build their own in-car systems, which people at those companies feel are better than what Apple or Google can provide for drivers and passengers. This claim does not support the experience most (all?) drivers have had. CarPlay and Android Auto support is also not complex or cumbersome from a technical perspective, which makes the choice not to offer it at all even more confusing. A new report might be telling on auto brands, though, noting the infotainment market is actually lucrative. While we take our in-car entertainment for granted, it’s worth quite a bit to those making the platforms and vehicles. A $14 billion businessBy 2030, the infotainment screen is estimated to be worth roughly $14 billion to automakers; it’s worth about $9 billion today. This projection depends on a few factors, primarily an increased willingness to pay for services. Currently, there’s deep resistance to add-on charges for features, especially when the average cost of a vehicle is at an all-time high. It’s also reliant on Gen Z and Millennial buyers, who have grown up with the as-a-service business model. That $14 billion figure is the perceived average. The market could be as large as $18 billion by 2030, again, depending on a few factors. Regionality is one factor, as is packaging. Automakers can offer an all-in package of services and features, create several smaller packages (much like the packages you can choose when you purchase a new vehicle), or ask drivers to subscribe to services piecemeal, which may be the nuclear option. Related: What to Expect From the New BMW Alpina Brand FUD about FoDRemember when BMW was reportedly charging a monthly service fee for heated seats? Though not as linear as it seemed, the story does support why automakers are eager to build their own infotainment platforms. As with smartphone ecosystems, tying people into an in-car ecosystem also provides opportunities for added revenue. Features on Demand, or FoD, allows automakers to charge extra for various features. Currently, many automakers are monetizing the “connected car,” which simply lets you do things like turn your vehicle on, lock it, and more via a smartphone app. Many new vehicles come with a trial of this feature. Automakers hope owners are so enamored with it that they will pay an annual or monthly fee for it when the trial period ends. CarPlay and Android Auto don’t have access to vehicle settings or features, though. If the intent is to “hide everything behind the screen” as Tesla so famously does, automakers may view it as valuable to eliminate third-party platforms to reduce confusion for drivers. Of course, those automakers could also create an always-there, on-screen shortcut to settings, or simply listen to drivers who want hardware buttons for essential features. Nissan Final thoughtsThis is potentially a dangerous game automakers are playing. iOS and Android are the only two smartphone platforms, and both Apple and Google have precedent for disallowing apps for “violating” their rules. Apple and Google are also not above quid pro quo to create a favorable environment for their services. It’s not far-fetched to see a future where support for CarPlay and Android Auto is a handshake agreement so an automaker’s app can exist on the App Store and Google Play. CarPlay is, after all, a deal-breaker for drivers. Related: 2026 Subaru Outback Trims Explained: Which One is the Best Buy? View the full article
  20. Honda Tops EPA Fuel Economy Rankings as Hybrid Demand SurgesThe latest report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has officially named Honda the most fuel-efficient full-line automaker in America, posting a fleet average of 31.0 mpg for the 2024 model year. That figure places Honda 3.8 mpg ahead of the industry average among brands offering both internal combustion and electrified vehicles, reinforcing a fuel-efficiency leadership streak that stretches back nearly five decades. The timing aligns with a broader market pivot toward hybrids, as automakers increasingly balance emissions compliance with affordability concerns. Consumer demand for hybrid vehicles continues to accelerate heading into 2026, with Honda positioned as a major beneficiary thanks to its mature two-motor hybrid systems and competitive pricing strategy. Honda Honda’s Efficiency Leadership Didn’t Happen OvernightHonda’s strong EPA showing mirrors a long-standing trend familiar to efficiency-focused buyers. The brand’s vehicles have repeatedly appeared on our affordability-focused fuel economy rankings, particularly in sub-$35,000 segments where real-world efficiency matters more than headline electrification claims. Consistent engineering refinement rather than abrupt technological shifts has enabled Honda to maintain strong combustion efficiency while integrating hybrids. That hybrid expertise has become influential enough that rival automakers are reportedly evaluating opportunities to collaborate. Recent industry discussions suggest Nissan may explore access to Honda’s hybrid technology as manufacturers race to scale cost-effective electrification without committing entirely to battery-electric platforms. Honda’s approach demonstrates that hybrid optimization remains a viable transitional strategy in today’s regulatory and economic environment. Honda Hybrid Lineup Helped Stabilize Honda’s 2025 PerformanceWhile 2025 presented uneven overall sales conditions for Honda, electrified models ultimately provided stability. According to the company, electrified vehicle sales in the U.S. surpassed 400,000 units for the first time, setting a new annual record and marking the third consecutive year of hybrid sales growth despite broader market volatility. Key contributors included the Honda CR-V Hybrid, Honda Accord Hybrid, and Honda Civic Hybrid, all of which combined strong fuel economy with mainstream pricing. The results underscore Honda’s broader strategy: improving fleet efficiency without pricing customers out of the market. As regulators tighten standards and buyers prioritize operating costs, Honda’s hybrid-heavy portfolio increasingly looks less like a transition phase and more like a competitive advantage. 22. Part of the reason that the BMW i8 was not a hugely popular car is that it featured a B38 three-cylinder engine. Another element is that it was a plug-in hybrid supercar, and many were not ready to adopt the technology a decade ago, but Trevor Elan from Bimmer Network is fixing both those problems. He's ripping out the entire powertrain, including the electrified bits, and replacing them with a tuned B58 straight-six. It's not really sacrilege, since BMW considered bigger engines for the i8, too, but this is not going to be easy, and it may have some unwanted consequences in the handling department. Nevertheless, work has already begun, and the battery pack has been stripped, among other things. 700-HP Engine for One-Off BMW i8 BMW It remains to be seen how Trevor will fit an engine twice as long as the original in the i8 — especially since he's not putting it behind the cabin but up front where the front electric motor once lived — but if he gets it to work, it will be a rowdy drive, with the inline-six coming from a crashed 2017 M340i xDrive that was capable of around 700 wheel horsepower. For the record, the original powertrain was only rated for a combined total of 369 hp, so Trevor will need to use the transmission and possibly even the drive shafts and hubs of his donor car to put that power down. He's already conceded that custom subframes will be necessary, with these designed to allow the transmission and transfer case of the swapped power unit to fit where the high-voltage battery did. Related: BMW X4 M to Return as an EV With More Power Than the M5 There's also the issue of tuning, and we presume the 3 Series will have to donate its ECU to the build. Additional effort may also be required in the bodywork department, since the i8's famously skinny original wheels may need upgrading, and that could cause clearance issues with the carbon fiber monocoque. At this point, it seems simpler to body-swap the i8 onto a 2 Series, but perhaps Trevor thinks that's too easy. Straight-Six BMW i8 Will Be Tricky to DriveWeight distribution is going to be significantly altered, and to try to address this (and because the front bay was never designed to accommodate an engine, let alone its ancillaries), Trevor is putting the radiators and other cooling elements in the back of the car, where the three-pot engine previously lived. Whether this will be enough to neutralize understeer, and whether these cooling systems will be able to cope with the heat generated by a 700-hp turbocharged straight-six while being mounted in the back, remains to be seen, but if it all works out, this will be one undeniably unique build. 23. The G90 BMW M5 and G91 M5 Touring debuted in 2024, and that means 2027 is the right time for BMW to introduce a Life Cycle Impulse facelift. And according to new spy shots from the Autoblog photographers, changes will be happening inside and out as BMW brings the M5 in line with the Neue Klasse family. Since America is not subject to Euro 7 emissions regulations, we expect the S68 V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain to produce the same 717-horsepower combined figure without the electric side taking on more responsibility. Let's see what is changing. 2027 BMW M5 Touring Gets New Looks SH Proshots/Autoblog View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article We've previously spied the G90 M5, and the prototypes have shown a new front end with slimmer headlights and narrower kidney grilles. While the current model's headlights are upturned at the outer corners, the new one will look more aggressive, drawing inspiration from the Vision Neue Klasse concept. Combined with those slimmer intake grilles, the super wagon will adopt a mask-like look for the front end, and although this change will mean a new bumper, the design of the lower intakes appears to be remaining unchanged. At the back, the rear diffuser still has a small fog light between the four exhaust tips, and although we're looking at a temporary bumper on this prototype, we expect nothing to change when the camouflage comes off. The M5 wagon will also retain a prominent roof spoiler for 2027, while the taillights are expected to be updated with new graphics. Curiously, the wing mirror covers seem less "M-like" than before, with wnglets moving to the outside rather than bridging the gap between mirror housing and A-pillar. Perhaps more aggressive covers will be selected for the production design, but electric M3 prototypes have also had a relatively restrained look here. Inside, the changes will be more drastic. 2027 BMW M5 Touring Gains a Whole New Look and Feel Inside SH Proshots/Autoblog View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article While today's M5's center console has a rotary infotainment controller, BMW Operating System X does away with this, placing the transmission switchgear in this area rather than to the left. The hazard warning button also migrates from the dashboard to the center console, and the cupholders ahead of this are no longer round, now getting angular cutouts. Speaking of the dash, the large curved display in the current M5 is being replaced by a single central touchscreen, with driver information being conveyed via the Panoramic Vision display beneath the windshield. The steering wheel is also changing significantly. No longer round with a flat bottom, the 2027 M5's steering wheel is more of a 'squircle,' and although we see tri-color M stitching and tape over the area where M1 and M2 buttons for customized drive modes reside, the shape of the wheel itself and the airbag feel like they belong in an EV. To be fair, the new steering wheel shape is necessary to allow the driver to see the new iDrive display more easily. Related: BMW Cancelled an M5 Convertible Just Days Before Its Debut Happily, we see conventional stalks for controlling the lights and windshield wipers, and the seats are still heavily bolstered yet lavish, but overall, there's no doubt that this cabin will feel less sporty. Coverings over the door cards indicate further changes so the M5 is more closely related to the iX3 and other Neue Klasse vehicles yet to be revealed. We'll undoubtedly see more updates with future spy shots, but a reveal is only expected in the second half of 2027. By then, perhaps we'll be more acclimatized to the futuristic design. 24. Going LocalWhile a global economy is a good thing, it does affect the local industry. One of the main talking points of the Trump administration has been to "Make America Great Again," part of this is to revive the once thriving manufacturing sector of the country. The stance has always been to bring in more industry, create more manufacturing jobs for more Americans, and reduce outsourcing. Foreign workers have always been a part of the nation's fabric, seeking the American dream, but some Americans are claiming corporations are taking advantage of them in certain cases. Case in point: Tesla. Tesla Un-American According to a Reuters report, a suit has been filed in a US court alleging that EV automaker Tesla is discriminating against Americans in hiring. Specifically, the Musk-led company is being sued for giving preference to foreign workers to pay lower salaries. Tesla sought to have the case dismissed, but the presiding judge, Vince Chabria, allowed it to proceed, saying that just enough facts had been presented to keep it going. One of the plaintiffs, Scott Taub, claims that Tesla overlooked him for an engineering position due to a systemic preference for foreign visa holders. He goes on to say that the company's layoffs have been disproportionately biased against U.S. Citizens. A key piece of evidence in the case is an email stating that the position Taub sought was open only to H-1B visa holders. The judge also dismissed the second plaintiff's claims, this time from HR specialist Sofia Brander. Brander said it was implausible that Tesla had hired only foreign workers for HR positions. The judge said she has two weeks to file an amended complaint that better highlights her claims. Tesla, on the other hand, has merely called the allegations preposterous, according to court filings. Photo by PATRICK T. FALLON/AFP via Getty Images H-1B Preferences Bad For AmericaH-1B visa holders are highly skilled and educated foreign workers. These people have become essential to big tech companies like Tesla. In a bid to prevent companies from abusing this visa class, President Donald Trump recently imposed a $100,000 fee on new H-1B holders. This new rule is already being challenged in court across three lawsuits. Another statistic brought up during the proceedings is that in 2024, Tesla hired 1,355 skilled workers but laid off 6,000 Americans. Judge Chabria was quick to point out that this shows only that the company hired many H-1B visa holders, not that Tesla prefers them over Americans. Immigration is the hottest topic now, and any decision made in this case will surely be felt and heard across the nation. Costfoto/NurPhoto via Getty Images View the full article
  25. Kia has finally announced pricing for the 2027 Telluride Hybrid. The first-ever hybrid version of the three-row crossover, it arrives at an important time when hybrid sales are soaring across the industry. Available in six different variants, the Telluride Hybrid starts at $46,490, making it $7,300 more expensive than the non-hybrid version of the SUV. It’s also over $2,000 pricier than the Hyundai Palisade Hybrid, which has the same powertrain. But is the Telluride Hybrid worth it? Let’s dig into the full pricing and specs of this key model. 2027 Telluride Hybrid Becomes Priciest Telluride Yet 2027 Kia Telluride HEV SXP K View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article As mentioned, there are six Telluride Hybrid variants, differing by trim and/or drivetrain. Here’s a look at the full lineup. Trim Drivetrain Price EX FWD $46,490 EX AWD $48,490 SX FWD $51,490 X-Line SX AWD $54,490 SX-P AWD $56,590 X-Line SX-P AWD $57,590 The Telluride Hybrid in X-Line SX-P form is now the most expensive Telluride ever, surpassing the X-Pro SXP AWD non-hybrid model, which costs $56,790. The hybrid gets a 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine and electric motors that combine for 329 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. Power goes to the front or all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission, and the most efficient model can manage 35 mpg combined, with a 637-mile range. It can tow up to 4,500 lbs and a self-leveling rear suspension is available. “The first-ever Telluride HEV really hits the sweet spot and delivers exactly what today’s savvy SUV buyers are looking for,” said Eric Watson, VP Sales, Kia America. “Brimming with Kia’s latest tech, available in seven-passenger configuration, and an EPA-estimated 35 mpg combined on the EX FWD trim, the 2027 Telluride HEV is the new benchmark in the three-row SUV segment.” A glance at the specification sheet shows that the base Palisade Hybrid matches the Telluride Hybrid’s features. And, considering they have the same powertrain, the Hyundai is the better buy on paper. Three-row crossovers excel in this region, which is why the all-new Telluride is so important for Kia. But times have changed since the first-gen arrived, with hybrids increasingly finding favor. Competitors like the Palisade, Toyota Grand Highlander, and Mazda CX-90 all have hybrid options, so Kia simply had to offer an electrified alternative. In this group, only the CX-90 Hybrid is more expensive than the Kia, but the Mazda has a more advanced plug-in hybrid system that allows for electric-only driving. By pricing the Telluride above its Hyundai and Toyota rivals, Kia appears confident that its SUV’s bold design, expansive interior, and long list of features will be enough to win over buyers. We look forward to driving the Telluride Hybrid to see if it can justify its price premium over the brilliant Palisade Hybrid. As things stand, both vehicles look like contenders for best-in-class honors. Related: 2025 Kia Telluride Vs. 2027 Kia Telluride: Side-by-Side Gallery View the full article
