  1. Photos and story by Kim Krause May 22–25, 2026 Big Water to Escalante to Big Water What an unforgettable 3-day adventure through some of the most scenic terrain in Southern Utah. Friday kicked things off in Big Water, Utah, a small desert town near Lake Powell surrounded by dramatic red rock landscapes and endless off-road terrain. Riders checked in at the Rodeway Inn & Suites before gathering for a meet-and-greet social to connect with fellow adventurers from across the country and prepare for an epic weekend on the trails. Riders traveled from all over including Georgia, Illinois, California, Texas, and beyond. DAY 1 – GRAND STAIRCASE-ESCALANTE NATIONAL MONUMENT 35 SXS machines split into two groups under sunny skies and perfect 75-degree weather for an incredible 90-mile ride through Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The day delivered everything: Hoodoos Sand washes Flowy scenic trails Big hill climbs with breathtaking views Cottonwood Canyon’s stunning rock colors and towering green trees Pine forests climbing to 7,000 feet elevation Along the route, the group passed an old abandoned cabin nestled into the towering canyon walls, a striking reminder of the rugged isolation and history of this landscape. Grosvenor Arch One of the highlights of the day was Grosvenor Arch, an impressive double sandstone arch rising dramatically from the desert floor. Surrounded by towering cliffs and colorful canyon walls, it made the perfect lunch stop and photo opportunity for the group. The ride continued through smooth flowing trails with amazing panoramic views before making the descent into Cottonwood Canyon where colorful layered rock formations and lush green trees created a completely different landscape from the open desert earlier in the day. We even had a few trail-side repairs and recovery moments with three breakdowns that added to the adventure and teamwork of the trip. That evening the group rolled into Escalante, Utah — a small western-style town surrounded by some of the most beautiful backcountry terrain in the country and known as a gateway to adventure. Riders enjoyed dinner at Showhouse before checking into the Prospector Inn for the night. Pine Trees at Higher Elevations in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument DAY 2 – HELLS BACKBONE & BOULDER Another incredible day exploring higher elevations with cooler 68-degree temperatures and climbs over 9,000 feet. The trails brought: Tall pine forests Colorful mountain views Scenic overlooks for miles The route toward Boulder, Utah delivered breathtaking scenery with lush green valleys, towering pine trees, and cooler mountain air that felt completely different from the desert terrain below. Lunch at Burr Trail Grill was a hit before cruising back along Utah’s famous Highway 12 — considered one of the most scenic highways in America with massive overlooks, colorful cliffs, and winding mountain roads. Parking lot partying Escalante After the ride, everyone gathered for a fun hotel parking lot party where riders relaxed, shared trail stories, checked out each other’s machines, enjoyed some laughs, and got the chance to really get to know one another after two incredible days on the trails. It was the perfect way to unwind before heading to dinner, raffles, poker, and awards with the group. Awards included: Farthest Traveler – Covington, Georgia Youngest Rider – 9 years old Oldest Rider – 71 years old “Dumbass Award” winner for accidentally putting water in his fuel tank Devil’s Garden DAY 3 – RETURN TO BIG WATER After breakfast and fuel-up, the group checked out of Escalante and headed back toward Big Water for one final day packed with incredible scenery and unforgettable trail riding. The first stop was Devils Garden — a surreal landscape filled with twisted sandstone formations, towering hoodoos, arches, and unique rock shapes that looked straight out of another planet. It was the perfect place to stretch the legs, explore, and grab some incredible photos. From there, Left Hand Collett Trail led the group to a beautiful slot canyon featuring towering walls, water crossings, and dramatic overhangs that created an incredible lunch stop and photo opportunity. Native American ruins They also encountered a remote cave, holding what appeared to be ancient Native American ruins. Pausing there, it was easy to imagine how this landscape once provided shelter, travel routes, and survival for people long before modern exploration. The ride continued along to Smoky Mountain Road where the group stopped to see the famous “smoke holes” — vents in the ground where smoke still rises from naturally burning underground coal seams deep beneath the surface. The area felt wild, remote, and unlike anywhere else on the trail. Next came the steep descent down Kelly Grade, one of the most exciting sections of the trip. The narrow switchbacks dropped riders from high elevation down toward Glen Canyon with massive panoramic views overlooking the rugged desert landscape below. Lake Powell From there, the group reached a decision point and split for the final scenic leg: continue through Crosby Canyon Road or take the Alstrom Point option for a higher-elevation panoramic overlook of Lake Powell and the surrounding canyon country. The Alstrom Point group climbed to one of the most iconic overlooks in the region, taking in sweeping, high-elevation views of Lake Powell, dramatic cliff lines, and endless desert horizons. The Crosby Canyon group descended through a narrow and beautiful canyon corridor lined with incredible sandstone formations and natural rock sculptures carved through the canyon walls. As they made their way toward Lake Powell, it was striking to see that portions of the road now exposed were once underwater — a reminder of how low the lake levels have become over the years. This group reached the shores of Lake Powell where one lucky dog enjoyed cooling off with a swim after an epic 98-mile day on the trails. Both groups eventually made their way back toward Big Water. After soaking in the final views, it was a short ride back to the Rodeway Inn in Big Water where the 2026 Grand Staircase SXS Experience officially came to an end. www.utvoffroadadventures.com If you missed this one, join us next May 20–23, 2027 for the Grand Staircase Expedition 2-Night UTV Expedition The post 2026 UTV Offroad Adventures Grand Staircase SXS Experience appeared first on UTV Guide. 2. System 3 Offroad has expanded its popular XTR370 tire lineup with the introduction of the all-new XTR370W, a wider and more aggressive evolution of the original X-Terrain radial tire designed specifically for extreme terrain performance. Building off the proven foundation of the standard XTR370, the new “W” variant introduces a massive 12-inch-wide tread profile that is engineered to help UTVs stay on top of ruts instead of falling into them. The wider footprint increases flotation and stability while also improving traction in deep mud, loose terrain, and technical rock sections. The original XTR370 earned a strong reputation among UTV riders thanks to its deep tread design, multi-angle shoulder lugs, and durable radial construction. Available in sizes ranging from 27-inch to massive 40-inch applications, the standard XTR370 uses an 8-ply radial carcass combined with aggressive tread depths ranging from 0.75-inch up to 1.25-inch depending on tire size. The new XTR370W takes that concept even further with an impressive 1.125-inch tread depth and updated multi-angle tread blocks featuring integrated siping. This design allows the tread lugs to flex and clamp onto terrain more effectively, increasing traction on rocks, slick surfaces, roots, and uneven terrain. System 3 also extended the sidewall tread on the XTR370W to improve side bite and lateral grip during off-camber climbs and aggressive cornering. The larger tread footprint combined with enhanced sidewall traction should make the new tire especially appealing to riders tackling technical rock crawling terrain and deep rutted trails. The XTR370W will be available in two different constructions depending on rider preference and terrain conditions. The standard XTR370W uses a tough 10-ply-rated radial carcass paired with a trail-oriented compound that balances durability, puncture resistance, flotation, and ride comfort. This version is aimed at riders looking for long-lasting performance in harsh terrain. For maximum traction, the XTR370W Sticky Compound model combines System 3’s proprietary soft rubber compound with a more flexible 8-ply-rated radial carcass. The softer compound and increased carcass flex are designed to dramatically improve grip on slick rock and technical surfaces while also increasing flotation. The addition of the XTR370W gives System 3 a serious contender in the growing ultra-wide extreme terrain tire category while building upon the reputation and performance of the original XTR370 platform. For riders looking for increased flotation, deeper tread, and maximum traction in extreme terrain, the new XTR370W appears ready to push the XTR370 lineup to the next level. The XTR370W will be available June 2026. For more information about the new XTR370W and the complete XTR370 tire lineup, visit System 3 Offroad. 3. The all-new CFMOTO ZFORCE Z10 marks a major step forward for CFMOTO in the high-performance sport UTV market. Designed to compete directly with machines like the Polaris RZR, Can-Am Maverick X3 DS, and Kawasaki Teryx KRX, the Z10 combines big horsepower, premium suspension, modern technology, and aggressive styling at a price point that undercuts much of the competition. At the heart of the Z10 is a turbocharged 998cc triple-cylinder engine producing up to 154 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of torque depending on market specifications. Power delivery is smooth and surprisingly refined for a turbocharged platform, with strong midrange acceleration that works equally well in dunes, fast desert terrain, and technical trails. The new OmniDrive CVT feels tighter and more responsive than previous CFMOTO drivetrains, helping the Z10 feel far more polished than earlier ZFORCE models. One particularly smart design feature on the Z10 is the rear-mounted radiator and intercooler setup. By moving both heat exchangers behind the cab instead of directly in front of the occupants, CFMOTO helps reduce the amount of engine and turbo heat entering the cockpit. This creates a noticeably cooler interior environment during long rides, especially in desert conditions where heat management becomes a major factor in driver comfort. One of the biggest surprises is how complete the package feels straight from the factory. FOX QSE electronically adjustable shocks with Eibach springs come standard, allowing drivers to switch between soft, medium, and firm suspension settings from the steering wheel. Suspension travel measures 17 inches up front and 20 inches in the rear, giving the Z10 impressive capability in rough terrain. The chassis feels planted at speed while still remaining comfortable on rocky trails and washboard roads. CFMOTO ZFORCE Z10 Another standout feature of the Z10 is the way the chassis and roll cage are integrated together. Unlike some sport UTVs that rely primarily on bolted cage connections, the Z10 features a welded cage structure that ties directly into the chassis in four key locations. This creates a more rigid overall platform that helps improve handling precision, suspension performance, and overall durability in rough terrain. That added rigidity becomes especially noticeable when driving aggressively through whoops, rocky trails, or uneven terrain where chassis flex can affect vehicle feel. The integrated design gives the Z10 a more solid and planted character while also contributing to the premium fit and finish throughout the vehicle. Inside the cockpit, the Z10 feels far more premium than many riders might expect from CFMOTO. The 12.3-inch RideSync touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, steering wheel-mounted controls, backup camera, and digital driver display bring automotive-inspired technology into the off-road world. Suspension seats, NFC key functionality, and multiple drive modes add to the upscale experience. The overall interior quality is a noticeable improvement over previous CFMOTO machines and rivals some of the more established premium brands. Inside the cockpit – nice seats and a view at the air inlet for heat exchangers The Z10 also comes impressively equipped from the factory with features many competitors reserve for higher trim levels or accessories. Standard equipment includes a 4,500-pound winch with synthetic rope, half doors, aluminum bash plates, HDPE skid protection, front and rear sway bars, recovery hooks, and 30-inch tires. That gives buyers a machine that is trail-ready without immediately requiring thousands of dollars in upgrades. One area where we would like to see improvement is the lack of a factory roof. In our opinion, every UTV should include a roof regardless of price point. A roof adds a significant amount of comfort and protection from sun, rain, mud, and trail debris, especially during long days on the trail or in harsh desert environments. While many owners will likely add an aftermarket or accessory roof right away, it’s one of those features that feels essential on a modern sport UTV. Considering how well-equipped the Z10 is in nearly every other area, a standard roof would have made the package feel even more complete. Where the Z10 still has something to prove is long-term durability and dealer support. Polaris and Can-Am have decades of racing and performance credibility behind them, while CFMOTO is still building confidence in the premium sport segment. Still, the value proposition is difficult to ignore. With pricing starting around $19,999 for the two-seat model, the Z10 delivers a huge amount of performance and technology for the money. Comparable machines from other manufacturers can quickly climb well beyond that price once similar suspension, electronics, and accessories are added. Final Verdict The CFMOTO ZFORCE Z10 is easily the most serious sport UTV CFMOTO has ever produced. It combines strong turbocharged performance, premium FOX suspension, impressive factory technology, and aggressive styling into a package that feels far more refined than many expected. Features like the rear-mounted cooling system and welded integrated chassis design help separate the Z10 from the crowded sport UTV market while contributing to improved comfort and durability. While it still needs to establish a long-term reputation for durability and aftermarket support, the Z10 proves that CFMOTO is no longer just competing on price alone. For riders looking for maximum features and performance per dollar, the Z10 may be one of the biggest disruptors the sport UTV market has seen in years. 6. The 2026 TREAD Off-Road Expo is returning to St. George, Utah, on June 19-20, 2026, bringing together some of the biggest names in off-road performance, aftermarket parts, fabrication, and adventure lifestyle products for two days at the Dixie Convention Center. Organizers are billing this year’s expo as the biggest yet, with expanded vendor participation, exclusive show specials, hands-on displays, and a massive $10,000 “TREAD Bucks” giveaway for attendees. Held in the heart of Southern Utah’s off-road playground, the TREAD Off-Road Expo continues to position itself as more than just a trade show. The event is designed as a gathering place for the entire off-road community, from hardcore rock crawlers and UTV enthusiasts to overlanders, dirt bike riders, and weekend trail explorers. Organizers describe the event as a place where “brands meet the trail,” connecting enthusiasts directly with the companies and builders behind the latest innovations in off-road performance. The expo floor will feature vendors showcasing suspension systems, wheels and tires, lighting, recovery gear, electronics, fabrication equipment, overland products, and complete custom vehicle builds. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak directly with manufacturers, compare products in person, and take advantage of show-only discounts and promotions. According to event organizers, the expo is intended to help enthusiasts make real purchasing and build decisions rather than simply browsing static displays. One of the biggest additions for 2026 is the “TREAD Bucks Giveaway,” where attendees will have chances throughout the weekend to win expo credit redeemable with participating vendors. Organizers say more than $10,000 in TREAD Bucks will be given away during the event, with drawings held every two hours. Winners must be present to claim prizes, which can be used directly on the show floor toward parts, accessories, and gear. In addition to the giveaways, the expo will once again host a large raffle benefiting organizations that support off-road access and public lands advocacy. Proceeds from the raffle help support groups including the BlueRibbon Coalition and the Utah Public Lands Alliance. These organizations work to preserve access to trails and public lands for off-road recreation, making the raffle an important part of the event’s connection to the broader off-road community. Organizers say raffle prizes will include parts, accessories, gear, and products donated by participating exhibitors and sponsors. The expo also highlights the unique off-road terrain surrounding St. George, where nearby trails and riding areas provide a real-world testing ground for the products on display. From Sand Hollow’s slickrock and dunes to desert trails stretching across Southern Utah and Arizona, the region has become one of the top destinations in the country for UTVs, Jeeps, trucks, and overland vehicles. Event hours are scheduled for Friday, June 19 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, June 20 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Dixie Convention Center in St. George. Additional information, vendor registration, and ticket details can be found at TREAD Off-Road Expo. 13. The Bureau of Land Management is once again reviewing off-highway vehicle route designations across portions of Central Utah, reopening debate over access in two of the state’s most iconic backcountry regions: the San Rafael Swell and the San Rafael Desert. The agency announced this week that it is seeking public comment on whether certain routes currently marked as closed or limited should be reopened to motorized use. The move could impact hundreds of miles of trails across the red rock landscapes surrounding Green River, Emery County, and the greater San Rafael Recreation Area. For UTV and OHV enthusiasts, the reassessment represents one of the most significant public land access discussions in Utah in recent years. OHV Exploring in the San Rafael Swell What the BLM Is Considering According to the BLM, officials are reevaluating approximately 226 miles of routes within the San Rafael Swell Travel Management Area that were previously designated as closed or limited to OHV use. Another 20 miles of routes in the San Rafael Desert are also under reconsideration. The agency emphasized that all current route designations remain in effect during the reassessment process. No trails have been reopened yet, but the new review could eventually lead to amendments to existing travel management plans. The San Rafael Swell Travel Management Plan, finalized in late 2024, designated approximately: 1,355 miles of routes open to OHV travel 141 miles limited to certain vehicle types or uses 665 miles closed to OHVs Meanwhile, the San Rafael Desert plan currently includes roughly: 600 miles open to OHV use 47 miles limited 534 miles closed The reassessment follows continued pressure from counties, OHV advocacy groups, and lawsuits challenging portions of the original travel management decisions. Why the San Rafael Swell Matters The San Rafael Swell is one of Utah’s premier off-road destinations, stretching across more than a million acres of rugged canyon country between Green River and Hanksville. Known for towering sandstone cliffs, winding washes, mining roads, and remote desert scenery, the area has long been a favorite for UTV exploration, overlanding, rock crawling, camping, and adventure travel. Popular routes throughout the region provide access to areas like Eagle Canyon, Devils Racetrack, Fix-It Pass, Behind the Reef Road, and countless remote overlooks and historic mining sites. The area also contains sensitive cultural resources, wildlife habitat, wilderness study areas, and fragile desert ecosystems, making route management especially controversial. Interstate 70 cuts directly through the Swell, offering easy access to one of the most visually dramatic landscapes in the West. YAMAHA RMAX 4 1000 REVIEW OHV Advocates Push for Reopening Routes Organizations supporting motorized recreation say many of the closures removed long-used access routes that connected trail systems, campsites, and recreational destinations. Groups including the BlueRibbon Coalition and the Utah Public Lands Alliance argue that some closures affected roads that had been responsibly used for decades. Advocacy groups are encouraging riders to submit detailed comments identifying specific route numbers, historic use, recreational value, and access concerns. They argue that public participation could heavily influence whether routes are eventually reopened. Public Comment Period Open Through June 8 The BLM is accepting public comments through June 8, 2026. Riders, landowners, recreation groups, conservation organizations, and local communities can submit comments through the agency’s online ePlanning portals or by mail. Officials specifically requested route-specific comments whenever possible, including trail numbers and details regarding access needs, recreation opportunities, or resource concerns. For Utah’s off-road community, the outcome could shape future access throughout one of the most important OHV regions in the Southwest. Whether you ride a UTV, dirt bike, ATV, or full-size 4×4, the reassessment could determine which routes remain accessible for years to come. This design not only preserves valuable cabin space, but also maintains a true factory-style fit and finish, making it ideal for both end users and dealers looking to upgrade showroom units. SSV Works eliminates that entirely with a 100% plug-&-play solution, utilizing factory mounting locations and integrated wiring for a straightforward installation. The result is a clean, secure fit with no guesswork and no compromise. At the heart of each system is SSV Works’ 10” subwoofer, paired with a precisely tuned ported enclosure to maximize low-frequency output and efficiency. Whether it’s a single or dual setup, this is the kind of bass customers expect when they upgrade.” Can-Am Defender HD11 Subwoofer Kits In addition to performance and ease of installation, SSV Works continues to set itself apart with its Limited Lifetime Warranty on enclosures and speakers, giving dealers and customers confidence in long-term durability and reliability. Unlike the well-traveled overlooks inside the national park, Kelly Point sits deep within the rugged Arizona Strip—a massive, isolated region defined by deep sand, volcanic rock, and endless desert horizons. This is not a quick scenic drive; it’s a full-day (or better overnight camping) expedition where the journey is every bit as memorable as the destination. The Journey: Distance, Fuel, and Preparation A round trip from the SR7 and River Road area in St. George clocks in at roughly 214 miles, making fuel planning absolutely critical. Most UTVs will require auxiliary fuel to make the trip. Cell service is virtually nonexistent once you leave the pavement, so this is not a ride to take lightly. Traveling with at least one additional vehicle is strongly recommended, along with tools, spare parts, recovery gear, and a reliable GPS navigation system. This is classic Arizona Strip riding—remote, unforgiving, and incredibly scenic. Route Overview: Simple but Remote The route itself is straightforward, even if the terrain can be demanding: Start at SR7 and River Road Take County Highway 5 for approximately 38 miles Turn onto BLM Road 103 and continue for another 42 miles to the park boundary Once you reach the boundary of Grand Canyon National Park, regulations change. Only street-legal vehicles are permitted beyond this point, so plan accordingly if you’re bringing a UTV. Park Boundary From here, the route transitions to NPS1203, beginning near Mt. Dellenbaugh where Mohave County Road 103 meets the park boundary. It’s about 26 miles one-way from the boundary to Kelly Point, and this is where the trail becomes more technical. Trail Conditions: Where It Gets Interesting While the initial sections of the route are relatively fast and flowing, conditions change notably as you pass Waring Ranch. The road becomes rougher, slower, and more rutted, with sections of sand and rock that demand careful driving. In a capable side-by-side like the Polaris RZR XP S 4 Ultimate 2026, the terrain is very manageable, but speeds drop significantly. Expect a slower, more technical crawl as you approach the point—this is not a place to rush. The Destination: Kelly Point Kelly Point delivers one of the most dramatic and least crowded views anywhere along the Grand Canyon. From the edge, you’ll look straight down thousands of feet to the Colorado River, with sweeping views that rival any overlook in the park—without the crowds, guardrails, or infrastructure. The sense of isolation here is unmatched. You’re standing on the edge of one of the world’s greatest natural wonders, yet chances are you won’t see another person. Camping and Alternate Routes Camping is permitted in the area, making it an excellent overnight destination. Be sure to check current regulations and guidelines through the National Park Service before your trip. There are also multiple ways to access NPS1203 depending on your starting point and preferences, allowing for loop routes or extended exploration across the Arizona Strip. This flexibility makes Kelly Point an ideal anchor for a longer backcountry adventure. Final Thoughts Kelly Point isn’t just another trail ride—it’s a commitment. The distance, isolation, and terrain demand respect, but for those who come prepared, it delivers an unforgettable off-road experience. From deep desert sand to one of the most jaw-dropping overlooks in the Southwest, this route perfectly captures what makes UTV exploration so rewarding. 2026 Polaris RZR XP S Sport The post Ride Spot: Kelly Point – North Rim of the Grand Canyon appeared first on UTV Guide. 19. Can‐Am, is proud to celebrate Kyle Chaney’s hard-fought win at the Silver State 300, the third round of the American Off-Road Racing Championship (AORC) Series. After 5 hours of racing, only 53 seconds separated all three drivers on the podium. The racing was nothing short of epic. Kyle kept his pace on the extremely fast, brand new course, the entire race and relied heavily on his navigator Sadyiie Gray to make sure he didn’t miss any of his marks. The end result was pure poetry in motion. Kyle Chaney’s Feelings on his Triumphant win at the Silver State 300. “This is my first Silver State 300 and we stayed on pace all day – it was a fun and tight race. We saw the dust ahead of us and we just pushed as hard as we could, and we didn’t want to make any mistakes -but Saydiie was precise on her notes and so it made me comfortable knowing I could push – it made it super easy to drive the day with a good navigator. The Can-Am Maverick R was good all day. Silver State 300 is a fast track that’s hard to make up time on, so we kept up the pace with a racer ahead of us, and caught up to him so we knew we had him beat. Really happy with our win, and looking forward to coming back to the Legends Rally this summer. I want to thank Can-Am, Amsoil, Progressive, Maxxis, Raceline Wheels, Factory UTV, and my crew – I just want to thank everyone for getting me here.” Across more than five hours of racing, Can-Am drivers demonstrated consistency, durability, and race-winning performance. When the dust settled in Tonopah, NV, six Can-Am drivers and their navigators filled out the top ten positions. Phil Blurton continues to lead the 2026 UTV Pro AORC standings, and Can‐Am leaves the Silver State 300 with good momentum moving into the next race. Looking ahead, the team is all-in on preparation for the Reno to Vegas race on August 13-16. 20. Tucked away on the remote Arizona Strip north of the Grand Canyon, Gunsight Point is one of the most underrated viewpoints in the Southwest. Unlike the crowded overlooks along the South Rim, this destination delivers a raw, untouched experience—one where you’re just as likely to hear the wind and ravens as you are to see another person. A Remote Overlook with Big-Time Views Gunsight Point sits on a high cliff edge in Coconino County, offering sweeping views into the canyon system carved by Kanab Creek and its tributaries. From this vantage point, you can look down on the dramatic meeting of Snake Gulch and Kanab Creek—two major drainage systems that eventually feed into the Colorado River deep within the canyon. View looking south towards the Grand Canyon from GunSight Point The perspective here is unique. Instead of the classic wide-open Grand Canyon panorama, Gunsight Point gives you a more intimate look into side canyons—steep, layered walls dropping thousands of feet into a maze of red rock and shadow. The contrast between desert plateaus above and the rugged canyon below is striking, especially during sunrise and sunset when the rock layers glow with deep reds and golds. Solitude You Can’t Find on the Rim One of Gunsight Point’s biggest draws is its isolation. While millions visit the Grand Canyon each year, very few make it out to this overlook. There are no guardrails, no visitor centers, and no entrance fees—just open land and uninterrupted views. Looking up Snake Gultch That solitude makes it feel like your own private overlook. It’s not uncommon to spend hours here without seeing another vehicle, making it a perfect spot for photography, quiet reflection, or simply soaking in the scale of the canyon without distractions. Looking up Kanab Creek towards Kanab, UT Getting There: A True Backcountry Adventure Reaching Gunsight Point is part of the experience. The route typically begins near Kanab or Fredonia, heading south toward the Arizona Strip before turning onto a network of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) roads. The main route—often referred to as Gunsight Point Road—runs roughly 16 miles one way across open desert terrain. The road is generally considered moderate (around a 3/10 difficulty rating), but conditions can vary with weather. In dry conditions, most high-clearance vehicles or UTVs can make the trip, but mud after storms can quickly change that. This is classic Arizona Strip terrain: wide open spaces, juniper-dotted plains, and distant views of the Kaibab Plateau rising to the south. You can find the route to Gunsight Point on OnX Offroad. 25. One of the most anticipated high-performance UTVs in the last couple of years has been the CFMOTO ZFORCE Z10. It’s CFMOTO’s first turbocharged UTV. We actually got a quick track test of an early prototype version of this machine nearly two years ago and have been begging for more seat time. This month, as production units hit dealers, CFMOTO gave us the key fob and let us rip the new unit across the Arizona desert for a slightly longer test of around 40 miles. HOW DOES THE PRICE COMPARE? There is only one other machine that directly compares to the Z10 at $19,999, not only in price but in suspension and horsepower too, Can-Am’s Maverick X3 DS. At the Polaris dealer, $19,999 will get you a non-turbo RZR. You‘ll have to bust out another $5K to get the comparable RZR Pro XP, or if 20K is all you have, you won’t get a turbo from Polaris. WHAT POWERS THE Z10 A triple cylinder engine very similar to Can-Am’s X3 powerplant. However, the Z10 engine is a 998cc instead of 900cc’s in the Can-Am. The tune CFMOTO uses churns out 154 horsepower. Can-Am has different tunes for their triple depending on the model. The base X3 has 135 while the RR model has a full 200. We bet before you get done reading this, some aftermarket company, such as EVP, will have a 200+ tune for the Z10. Until then, you can check out our comparison spec chart to see how the Z10 compares to the RZR Pro XP and the X3 in power-to-weight numbers, and it is close. IS IT FAST Two things make it feel fast: the low seat height and ITP Terra Hook tires, giving it great traction. In fact, these are about the most aggressive tires you will find on a sport machine. I feel they offer twice as much traction as the Maxxis Carnivore or Carnage tires that come on a majority of machines. You can choose between three power modes to get you down the trail. They all feel fast; they just come on a little differently. When you stab the throttle in Sport, you have a noticeable turbo lag, then you get forced back into the seat as the car launches forward. In Sport, you get a nice turbo blow off tone, whereas in comfort mode, it’s much quieter and there’s no blow of noise. That’s a complaint we have on the Kawasaki H2; it’s loud even when cruising around at a leisurely pace. The Z10’s exhaust is very quiet, and you don’t hear any noise coming from the big radiator intake scoop between the passenger’s heads except for a little clutch backlash. We weren’t able to find the Z10’s top speed as our test loop didn’t have any long, straight trails. We did reach 70MPH, and it felt like there was a lot more in reserve. Plus, there’s no doubt the 154 horses could handle a taller 32-35 inch tire. The Z10 will be a blast to drive in the dunes. All of its power will be better utilized in the dunes, plus its low seat height will help too. HOW ABOUT SUSPENSION A similar A-arm suspension setup to the X3 is found up front, offering a claimed 17 inches of travel controlled by a 2.5 Fox QSE shock and a swaybar. Out back, a trailing-arm system is used with two radius rods, a toe link, and a second swaybar control 20 inches of movement. All four corners have preload adjustability and electronically controlled compression. The test loop CFMOTO had us on wasn’t very rough, but there were a couple of G-Outs and wash ledges we could hit. The suspension feels good for a 64-inch wide machine. The swaybars are stiff, so there is very little body roll. You could definitely notice the suspension changes when you toggled from soft, medium, and hard. Plus, the toggle was super easy to reach on the steering wheel. While there is no full firm panic button like on the RZR, you can customize the medium setting to add or remove compression from it. DOES IT HANDLE WELL? It does corner well with very little body roll. Although engine braking in high is non-existent, the dual piston calipers on all four corners do an excellent job of slowing the machine down quickly. Again, those grippy ITP TerraHook tires can take some of the credit. There are four different power steering sensitivity levels you can choose from, but I preferred the minimum. In that setting, the steering was light and offered just the right amount of feedback. Its wheelbase sits right in between that of the RZR XP and the X3 and feels perfect. WHAT FEATURES DOES IT HAVE The cockpit is full of features. The driver gets a larger instrument panel behind the steering wheel, while a second infotainment screen is in the center of the dash. That 12.3 screen features Apple CarPlay and mirrors to CFMOTO’S own RideSync App. It can show vehicle stats like miles driven, fuel levels, maintenance schedules, and vehicle location. There were audio controls, but our test unit didn’t have any speakers. A backup camera is standard, but there are no mirrors. Our test machine had an aftermarket set. The seats are full suspension seats with removable cushions for easy cleaning, and the driver’s side is adjustable. CFMOTO includes a winch and front bumper standard, however, not a roof. For traction, the Z10 relies on 8-ply ITP TerraHook tires sized in a square setup with 30×10-14’s on all four corners. Those tires are sitting on 5-lug wheels; the hubs behind them are the automotive-style unitized hubs just like Polaris has gone to on its high-end machines. IS IT STRONG? The ROPS is made from two-inch steel and has a lot more cross-bracing and support than its competition. The C-Pillars out back are more than just fender supports; they are tied into the chassis. We can’t confirm yet if it’s race legal, but it’s close. There are provisions for harnesses, such as pass-through seats, but the Z10 comes with a three-point automotive-style seatbelt for now. INITIAL THOUGHTS Although our desert test was short, we came away impressed with the fit and finish, power, and comfort. Power-wise, we think it will keep up with the X3 or RZR Pro XP no problem. We loved the dual glove boxes, and since the radiator is rear-mounted, there was no excessive cabin heat. Visuals out of it were not as good as a RZR or a KRX, but certainly better than the X3. The seats were comfortable, the doors closed tightly, and the steering wheel had good placement. Suspension felt as it might have been restricted by stiff swaybars. However, they help in cornering. We were running high tire pressure as well. We hit a few rocks with the skid plates and cracked a rear section of the hard plastic skid, and a front section also failed after a high-speed nose dive. Thicker skids would help, as would a tad more ground clearance. However, until then, the Z10 is a solid product out of the gate. We can’t wait to see what the aftermarket can do with it and where we can drive it next. We definitely need more seat time to give it a full seal of approval.
