Dream Weekend For First-Time Top Fuel Winner Maddi Gordon as Ron Capps Motorsports Scores First-Ever Double-Up at Norwalk
In just her 10th career NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series event, Rookie of the Year candidate Maddi Gordon became the eighth woman in NHRA history to win in Top Fuel Sunday afternoon at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. Gordon’s triumph in her Carlyle Tools Top Fuel dragster completed the first double-up victory for the Ron Capps Motorsports organization, as team owner Ron Capps drove his NAPA Auto Care Funny Car to the win just moments earlier. Adding yet another highlight to the weekend was the fact that Gordon was able to share the winner’s circle with her father, three-time Top Alcohol Funny Car world champion Doug Gordon, who also powered to victory in Norwalk. Gordon moved up three spots to fourth in the Top Fuel points standings, while Capps leaves with the Funny Car points lead for the seventh time through the first 10 races of the 20-race season. Gordon’s standout weekend started in qualifying, where she threw down the third-quickest pass of the second session on Friday with her 3.793-second run at 335.40 mph. That performance moved her up to the provisional No. 3 spot and came with one bonus point. In the third session, she set a new track speed record, 339.79 mph, on her 3.760-second pass. Gordon then recorded her quickest pass of the weekend, a 3.734 E.T., to lock in the No. 5 position. Capps also stood out in qualifying, beginning with a 3.999 E.T. followed by a 3.894-second blast in the second session to earn three bonus points and place him in the provisional No. 1 spot to end the day. Capps and crew chief Dean ‘Guido’ Antonelli kept the momentum going in the third session, which was also the first round of the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge. Capps charged to a 3.891 E.T. to defeat Daniel Wilkerson and earn another bonus point for making the third-quickest pass of the session. He then laid down a consistent 3.901 in the #2Fast2Tasty Challenge final to finish runner-up to Austin Prock, picking up another bonus point in the process. On race day, Gordon kicked things off with a 3.854 pass at 325.14 mph to get past a tire-smoking Spencer Massey. Crew chiefs Rob Flynn and Troy Fasching stepped up to face 2025 regular season champion Tony Stewart in the second round, where Gordon recorded a 3.788-second run while Stewart smoked the tires. She then met up with points leader Shawn Langdon for a rematch of her first-ever round of competition in Top Fuel in the semifinals. Both drivers lost traction, but it was Gordon who recovered, pedaling her way to her first career final round. Capps’ march through eliminations began with a first-round victory over Bobby Bode before clocking low E.T. of the second round to defeat J.R. Todd’s tire-smoking attempt. Capps was off his usual pace in the semifinals with a 4.051, but it was enough to get the win over Alexis DeJoria, who lost traction early. In the final round, Capps left the starting line three thousandths of a second ahead of Jack Beckman and extended the lead down track to score the win with a 3.969 E.T. at 328.54 mph versus his opponent’s 4.011. The win was Capps’ 80th of his career, second at Norwalk, 12th as a team owner, and made him the first Funny Car driver to win three diamond Wally trophies in 2026. With the pressure on to join Capps and her father in the Norwalk winner’s circle, Gordon and the Carlyle Tools team held strong in the Top Fuel final against four-time world champion Antron Brown. Gordon raced to her quickest pass of the day, a 3.786 at 333.16 mph, to hold off Brown and his 3.840-second effort. “I was in my mom’s belly at the drag races and went to my first race at eight days old,” exclaimed an ecstatic Gordon as she took in the moment after jumping out of her car at the top end of the race track. “Never in my life did I think I would be driving a Top Fuel dragster, but it’s this guy right here, Ronald Capps! He made what felt like the impossible become a reality. Our team works so hard; weekends, holidays, birthdays. Thank you to their families for letting them come out and drag race. This is everything right here. Blood, sweat, and literal tears go into this. “When my parents first told me that Ron had approached them about me driving for him, they said just be grateful for the opportunity because we don’t have the money that it takes to drive one of these cars. But for Ron, that wasn’t what it was about,” Gordon added. “He told us he didn’t have the funding (for a second car) yet, but he was going to find it. And that’s exactly what he did. Carlyle Tools and NAPA Auto Parts believed in me before I even hit the gas pedal and that type of loyalty will stick with me forever. This is the best day of my life!” The pair of wins was just as surreal for Capps, who was a part of many double-up victories for iconic team owners Don “The Snake” Prudhomme and Don Schumacher while competing as a hired driver for decades. Now, the fifth-year driver/team owner has a double-up of his own just 10 races into Ron Capps Motorsports’ tenure as a two-car operation. “When her dad won, I thought there’s no way all three of us would win. And then when I won, I thought, oh man, the odds are going to go down now,” said Capps, a longtime friend of the Gordon family. “And she’s running my buddy, AB, who helped me a lot when I became a team owner. It was a great tool war for those two teams up there, but we got the win and Joe Sabo (Sr. Manager of Product, Carlyle Tools) is very smiley, and I’m very happy about that. What an unbelievable day. “We’ve got two cars that run as one,” added Capps, who was also announced as part of the West Coast Stock Car/Motorsports Hall of Fame’s class of 2026 on Sunday. “I’m a small business owner, who never even thought I’d run a business. This helps immensely for paying bills, but we’ve got great partners who help support us, so a huge thank you to all of them.” For Gordon, the dream-come-true victory was made even more special by the fact that she was surrounded by family and able to share the full-circle moment with her father and their family-run Top Alcohol Funny Car team, where she got her start working as a crew member. In 2024, she took over the driving duties of the Gordon Family Racing entry before getting called up to compete in the professional Top Fuel ranks in 2026. By scoring a Gordon family double-up on Sunday, Doug and Maddi joined just four other father-daughter pairings to win at the same event. “I can hardly think right now, I’m just so happy,” said Gordon, who became the 100th woman to win an NHRA national event when she earned her first TAFC win in 2024. “My family being here means so much; they’re what got me here. They taught me everything I know, and without them believing in me when I was driving the Alcohol Funny Car, I would’ve never gotten this opportunity. Because I blew some stuff up in that car. I made mistakes, I cost us money, I cost us more work in the shop, and I ate myself up over it, but they stuck with me and stuck by my side and believed in me and Ron Capps has done the same thing. I’m just so grateful; this truly is the best day of my life.” Gordon and Capps will have nearly three weeks to soak up their wins as the NHRA Mission Foods Series tour heads to Sonoma Raceway next, a home facility for the two Central California natives, for the NHRA Sonoma Nationals, July 17-19. Taylor Dietsch Races to First Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown Win of 2026 in Norwalk
At Summit Motorsports Park second generation drag racer Taylor Dietsch won for the first time in 2026 and captured his third Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown Series national event win. Dietsch took out the points leader Jonathan Allegrucci in an all-Ford Mustang Cobra Jet final and ended his three-race win streak in the process. The win also moved the young Dietsch to 11th in points, just six points out of the Top Ten. “It’s just been a perfect day,” said Dietsch. “We couldn’t have asked for a better race day. Every round we raced was a good race. We were looking at incremental times after the third round. We thought we saw an opportunity and we went for it.” Winners at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals are presented with one-of-a-kind ice cream scoops by track owner Bill Bader. The scoops are some of the most coveted trophies in drag racing. “I don’t know how to describe it, but I’ve wanted one of these ice cream scoops for quite a while,” said Dietsch. “Even before I started racing Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown cars. I’ve come to Norwalk with my dad. It was always a great weekend, but we’re really excited to finally get one of these scoops.” In the final round Dietsch took a slight starting line advantage leaving first with a .031 second reaction time in front of Allegrucci’s .038 second start. Dietsch kept his factory stock Mustang hooked up all the way down the track with a winning time of 7.711 seconds at 178.10 mph as Allegrucci overpowered the track and slowed to 10.836 seconds at 85.11 mph. Allegrucci will leave Norwalk with the points lead.In the semifinals Allegrucci defeated No. 1 qualifier Jason Dietsch to stop the possibility of an all-Dietsch final round. Dietsch had been dominating the event with quick times but it was Allegrucci outpacing Dietsch 7.723 seconds to 7.734 seconds. Prior to Allegrucci’s win the younger Dietsch had trailered Alex Anderson with a winning time of 7.727 seconds to 7.845 seconds. “It was great to win another one,” said Dietsch. “It’s great. I made it around him now. He’s only got two wins in Flexjet and now I have three. We were both in the semis and we were hoping to make it an all-Dietsch final but we weren’t quite there.” Heading to the historic U.S. Nationals, Taylor Dietsch will have the $1,000 Flexjet bounty on his back. The Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown Series will be back in action at Lucas Oil Raceway Park outside Indianapolis, Ind., September 2-7, 2026. This story was originally published on June 29, 2026. Custom BMW Café Racer Showcases Handcrafted Engineering and Bespoke Solutions
Every custom motorcycle tells a story, but some projects go far beyond cosmetic upgrades. One such BMW-based café racer, built by Sport-Evolution, demonstrates how thoughtful engineering and close collaboration with a customer can transform a classic boxer into a truly one-of-a-kind machine. Rather than following a standard café racer formula, the project focused on developing tailored technical solutions to accommodate the owner’s specific vision. The most significant modification involved redesigning the rear section of the motorcycle. Rivenbark Opens JBS Equipment NHRA Pro Mod Series Road to the Championship With Win in Norwalk
Kevin Rivenbark opened the JBS Equipment NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by Elite Motorsports Road to the Championship with a victory on Sunday at Summit Motorsports Park, knocking off Billy Banaka in the final round as part of this weekend’s Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. This weekend’s event was the seventh of 11 races in the category during the 2026 campaign and this weekend’s race is powered by Polaris and presented by Jan-Cen Motorsports. It is also the first of five playoff races and Rivenbark started strong, going 5.714-seconds at 251.53 mph in the final round to hold off Banaka’s 5.716 at 252.33. Rivenbark’s first victory this season and second in his NHRA Pro Mod career couldn’t have come at a better time, as he moved to ninth in points. “We haven’t won this (Wally) since Phoenix of 2024, but we never stop,” Rivenbark said. “The guys are restless. They just keep going and going. We’ve had some bad times and some tough times, but hopefully we’re on the right road. We knew we had a better car than what we showed in qualifying. “This weekend was really a shakeup. We’re hoping to get going for the Road to the Championship and hopefully both of us (with teammate Stan Shelton) will come out on top or at least one and two.” Rivenbark, who qualified 13th, knocked off past world champion Mike Castellana, Derek Menholt, who came into the race with the points lead, and Lyle Barnett to reach the final round. Banaka advanced to the final round with wins against Alex Laughlin, Justin Bond and Mike Thielen. Menholt stayed in the points lead, but has just a 13-point advantage over Mike Stavrinos. Banaka is third, just 15 points out of first. The JBS Equipment NHRA Pro Mod Series presented by Elite Motorsports returns to action on Sept. 2-7 as part of the Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. Gordon, Capps, Stanfield, and Gadson Scoop Up Wins at Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals
Top Fuel rookie sensation Maddi Gordon won her first career race on Sunday at Summit Motorsports Park, defeating Antron Brown in the final round to hand Ron Capps Motorsports its first Top Fuel and Funny Car sweep with Ron Capps at the 20th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. Aaron Stanfield (Pro Stock) and Richard Gadson (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also won the 10th of 20 races during the 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season. In just her 10th professional start, Top Fuel’s Maddi Gordon picked up a Diamond Wally in her 12,000-horsepower Carlyle Tools/Monster Energy dragster, driving past Antron Brown with a run of 3.786-seconds at 333.16 mph. Gordon’s day was nearly over before it began, as the team had to scramble to get the car started on the starting line due to a parts issue. It finally started just in time – thanks to Spencer Massey graciously waiting as well – and she went 3.854 at 325.14 to get the win. Gordon followed with victories against Tony Stewart and points leader Shawn Langdon to advance to the final. Brown left first, but Gordon quickly tracked him down to get the victory, finishing off a Ron Capps Motorsports sweep. To add to the moment, Gordon’s father, Doug, also won in Top Alcohol Funny Car on Sunday. “It literally doesn’t get any better than this,” Gordon said. “We brought three race cars here, we came home with three trophies and three ice cream scoopers, and y’all know me, you know I love ice cream, so that is like the cherry on top. I remember backing up from the burnout, and I wanted that win so bad, so bad. For my dad to win, and then Ron to win, it’s like the pressure is on, right? I’m just so grateful for this opportunity. This is the best day of my life. “They say people usually stick out an arm or a leg for you; well, Ron catapulted out of a cannon for me. He believed in me even before I won a Top Alcohol Funny Car trophy. He signed my license in 2023, and I never imagined I would be sitting next to him in the media center. He could have thrown any driver in there, but he chose me, and I’m forever grateful for this opportunity. He changed my life in every way except for where I live.” Brown reached his second straight final round by defeating Leah Pruett, Tony Schumacher and Clay Millican. Langdon maintains a healthy points lead in the category, with it now standing at 150 points over teammate Doug Kalitta. In Funny Car, Capps did his part for the first-ever nitro sweep for his team, finishing off a consistent day with a run of 3.969 at 328.54 in his 12,000-horsepower NAPA Auto Care Toyota GR Supra to power past runner-up Jack Beckman. It gave the three-time world champion and the current points leader his milestone 80th career victory and his third this season, becoming the first driver in Funny Car to reach three wins in 2026. Capps, who qualified third, defeated Bobby Bode, J.R. Todd and Alexis DeJoria to reach the final round, which presented a pressure-packed situation for both Capps and Gordon. But Capps came through in the clutch, posting a terrific .048 reaction time that led to a thrilling wire-to-wire victory. It’s a win Capps will always remember for a variety of reasons, including getting to share in the moment with Gordon as Capps and his entire organization wrapped up another milestone moment. “I went over to her car before the final round, and I go, “Well, you got your head on straight, right?’ and she’s just smiling at me, that Maddi Gordon smile, and I actually asked her for advice,” Capps said. “You lie in bed, and you dream about stuff like this. I don’t know how many final rounds I’ve been in, but it was fun, and I was just hoping we got the win. Once we got the win, I thought the odds were definitely going down with her dad and me getting a win, but this is crazy. We’re just lucky.” Knowing he needed to be nearly perfect on the starting line, Pro Stock’s Aaron Stanfield delivered in the final round, using a brilliant .002 reaction time in his Johnson’s Horsepowered Garage/Melling/Janac Brothers Racing car to defeat Matt Hartford on a holeshot with a run of 6.626 at 208.75. It is Stanfield’s second win this season and the 16th in his career and the young standout earned every part of his second victory in three seasons at Summit Motorsports Park. He scored a holeshot win to start the day against Erica Enders and then knocked off Cody Anderson and Kenny Delco to reach the final round. He held off Hartford by a mere .006 at the finish line to get the victory and give his team momentum heading into the second half of the season. “I definitely knew I was going to have to be pretty good on the tree and the old hot rod did just enough to pull one off,” Stanfield said. “Matt’s been driving really good here lately and he’s had a fast race car. Every time Matt and I race, it’s a good and tight race. I think the world of Matt. He does a great job driving the car and they do a great job tuning their own car. It feels great as a driver whenever you’re able to do your job and pull off a holeshot win like that.” Hartford advanced to his third straight final round and the fifth this season thanks to wins against Eric Latino, Jeg Coughlin Jr. and points leader Dallas Glenn. Reigning world champ Glenn moved back into the lead and now has a 23-point advantage over Greg Anderson. For the second straight day, Richard Gadson got the best of his Pro Stock Motorcycle teammate Gaige Herrera in the final round, as Herrera went red for a second consecutive time, giving the points leader and reigning world champion his second victory this season on his RevZilla/Motul/Vance & Hines Suzuki. Gadson was stout in the final round, going 6.849 at 197.36 en route to his sixth career victory and first at Summit Motorsports Park. A day earlier, Gadson won the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge over Herrera when his teammate left too early and he took advantage again on Sunday. The dynamic duo has now met in back-to-back final rounds, with Herrera in Bristol and Gadson Sunday in Norwalk, which they hope is a sign of things to come for the rest of the season in Pro Stock Motorcycle. “Obviously, I didn’t lie yesterday when I told you it’s pretty much ‘are you willing to red light situation’ and you know he’s a tough competitor, he’ll rebound, and it’ll probably be hell for us all for the next couple races,” Gadson said. “I’m really happy and I don’t know if you believe in energies, but I feel like Norwalk owed me one. I got the ice cream scoop that I always hoped for, a double up with the Mission #2Fast2Tasty win, and the overall win. It doesn’t get much sweeter than this. “I don’t think I’ve given Norwalk its due just how good it’s been to me. This is the first overall win, but I’ve had a lot of success here now – two #2Fast2Tasty wins and a final round last year. I love Norwalk. Mr. Bader is amazing – this facility is amazing, the ice cream, the whole deal, the whole experience of being here. This is a special place.” Herrera reached his second straight final and third of the season by taking down Jianna Evaristo and Angie Smith. Gadson’s points lead now stands at 83 over Herrera. The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series returns to action July 17-19 with the Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals presented by PowerEdge at Sonoma Raceway.
