  4. If reigning NHRA Rookie of the Year Spencer Hyde had to pick a home track, the Canadian’s first choice would be Summit Motorsports Park, the site of this weekend’s fan-favorite 20th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. If Hyde’s tuner and team owner, Jim Head, had to select a home track, the Columbus, Ohio native would also absolutely pick the standout facility in Norwalk, which makes this weekend’s NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series event incredibly important for both on several levels. Hyde grew up racing at the track, while Head will be the featured legend honored during the weekend as part of NHRA’s milestone campaign. Head also appears on the event’s commemorative ticket available for purchase, which adds to how special it would be for Hyde to pick up his first career NHRA win this weekend in the 12,000-horsepower Head Contractors and Engineers Funny Car. Now in his second season racing for Head, Hyde continues to enjoy racing for the legendary driver and tuner, especially during what will be a memorable weekend at Summit Motorsports Park. “Seeing Jim recognized in this way means a lot. Jim is a unique guy and he’s been around nitro racing for a very long time,” Hyde said. “Other than Big Jim Dunn, I’d say he’s the longest-running nitro guy out there who’s still active. “It’s really cool to have a race in Jim’s backyard, and it also adds a little bit of pressure for me as a driver, just because not only is it his hometown, but I consider this my home race as well. You want to do well in front of your friends and family, and all of the Canadians at this event.” Last year, Justin Ashley (Top Fuel), Austin Prock (Funny Car), Cory Reed (Pro Stock) and John Hall (Pro Stock Motorcycle) all won the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. This year’s race will again be broadcast on FOX, with qualifying and the GETTRX Pro Stock NHRA All-Star Callout coverage on FS1 and eliminations on FOX at 5:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 28. It is the 10th of 20 races during the 2026 season and this weekend’s event also features the GETTRX Pro Stock All-Star Callout bonus race and the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge in Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock Motorcycle. For Hyde, he views the weekend as a big opportunity as the season hits the halfway point. He started the year strong, hit a lull, but appeared to get back on track at the most recent race in Bristol, qualifying fourth and winning a round. Now eighth in points, Hyde knows the chance is there to make a jump to close out the regular season. That starts in Norwalk, where a victory would be massive for the second-year standout, especially taking on the likes of points leader Ron Capps, Bristol winner Matt Hagan, Funny Car newcomer Jordan Vandergriff, Jack Beckman, Chad Green, who has two wins this season, and back-to-back world champ Prock. “Last year we qualified decent (in Norwalk), but we didn’t race very well, so we’re hoping to turn that around this year,” Hyde said. “It would be incredible to win my first Wally at this race. I don’t know if you could write it up any better. It would mean a lot to me to be in front of my family and friends and all my hometown fans when that moment happens. “Coming out of a good weekend in Bristol, we went out second round, but we made it down the track five out of six times. To have that confidence in the race car coming into Norwalk event, I’ve got high expectations. Jim and the guys won this event in 2024 (with Blake Alexander), so we know we’ve got a capable car. It would just be extra special to get my first win in front of the hometown crowd.” Ashley is after his first Top Fuel win of the season, but it won’t be easy against a group that includes dominant points leader Shawn Langdon, who has four wins in 2026, reigning world champion Doug Kalitta, racing legend Tony Stewart, Leah Pruett, who won the Epping race, Bristol winner Antron Brown, Clay Millican and Josh Hart. Matt Hartford won in Bristol and is also the reigning winner in the GETTRX Pro Stock All-Star Callout. He’ll look to repeat and sweep the weekend against a Callout field of Greg Anderson, who is the top seed and has the first pick, reigning world champ Dallas Glenn, Eric Latino, Greg Stanfield, Enders, Aaron Stanfield and Jeg Coughlin. Hall wants a repeat Pro Stock Motorcycle win in Norwalk against a talented field that includes points leader and reigning world champ Richard Gadson, Angie Smith, Gaige Herrera, Chase Van Sant, Steve Johnson, Jianna Evaristo and Ryan Oehler. Race fans also get to see action in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, the JBS Equipment NHRA Pro Mod Series and Flexjet NHRA Factory Stock Showdown. Norwalk race fans can enjoy the special pre-race ceremonies that introduce each driver and includes the fan favorite SealMaster Track Walk and congratulate the winners at the winner’s circle celebration on Sunday. As always, fans get a pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet. They can visit NHRA’s Manufacturers Midway, where sponsors and vendors create an exciting atmosphere. NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series qualifying will feature two rounds at 5 and 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday, June 26, and the final two rounds of qualifying on Saturday, June 27 at 12 and 2:30 p.m. Eliminations will begin at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday, June 28. The GETTRX Pro Stock NHRA All-Star Callout starts Friday, June 26 at 3 p.m., where the drivers will make their first-round picks. The first round of the Callout is Saturday, June 27 at 11:30 a.m., followed by the semifinals at 1:15 p.m. and the finals at 4 p.m. Television coverage begins Sunday, June 28 and includes the GETTRX Pro Stock NHRA All-Star Callout on FS1 at 11 a.m., leading into qualifying coverage at 12 p.m. Elimination coverage kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on FOX. 8. One year ago, Mark Pawuk arrived at Summit Motorsports Park pursuing a victory that had eluded him throughout his NHRA career. After decades of racing at the famed Ohio facility, the longtime fan favorite finally captured his first NHRA national event win at his home track, a triumph that helped propel him to a second consecutive Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown championship. As the series returns to Norwalk this weekend for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, Pawuk hopes the place that sparked last season’s title run can help turn the tides on a challenging 2026 campaign. After enjoying a dominant run spanning the 2024 and ’25 seasons, Pawuk had high hopes for the year, but finds himself entering race No. 5 of eight sitting on the outside of the category’s Top 10. He is hoping a repeat performance in Norwalk will be the much needed boost his Empaco Equipment team needs as they begin the second half of the season. A lifelong Buckeye State native, Pawuk, who first made a name for himself in the sport while competing in NHRA’s Pro Stock category, has been racing at Summit Motorsports Park since the 1970s. Before achieving his goal of a national event win at his home facility in 2025, Pawuk’s prior Norwalk success included two NMCA triumphs and a final round appearance at the 2024 Summit Racing Equipment Nationals. “There’s no place I’d rather get things turned around than Norwalk,” said Pawuk. “The fans, the Bader family, all our Ohio-based partners, this race means a lot to me. Last year was one of the highlights of my career. Being able to share the winner’s circle with my wife, Bonnie, and Kassandra and Kyle at our home facility was a true bucket list item for our family. Hopefully we can put together another strong showing this weekend and start building some momentum to be able to close out the season strong. “It’s been a bit of a learning curve as we continue to fine-tune our new 2026 Dodge Charger Hustle Stuff Drag Pak,” added Pawuk, who debuted the next-generation Hemi-powered machine during the series’ season opener in Gainesville, Fla. in March. “It was a brand-new car when we took ownership of it. It had never been driven before in competition. We’ve been going through the growing pains one would expect when making such a huge change to your existing program. We’ve had our battles, but I think we’re moving forward. We qualified third in Bristol and feel like we’re starting to turn the corner. We were hoping for better results this year but we’re focusing on the second half of the season so we can collect some round wins and attempt to climb back up in the points. Right now, I’m in 12th, which is not something our Empaco Equipment team is accustomed to, especially after these last few seasons. I’d really like to get back into the top five.” Pawuk, a five-time winner and seven-time No. 1 qualifier in the category, continues to draw support from a large contingent of Ohio-based companies, including Empaco Equipment, Emil Pawuk and Associates, Inc., Seabreeze North Corporation, Ohio CAT and Ohio Peterbilt, Mr. Heater and HeatStar, Williams Building Group, Summit Racing Equipment, which has supported Pawuk’s career dating back to his Pro Stock days when he won six events before hanging up his helmet after the 2006 season, Mickey Thompson Tires, First Financial Bank, and Cometic Gasket. Diamond Pistons, PAC Racing Springs, Trend Performance, Dodge, DMPE, Moroso Performance, Red Line Oil, VP Racing Fuels, ARP, Impact, E3 Spark Plugs, and Ray Barton Racing Engines also play a crucial role in keeping Pawuk on the track, while Matco Tools also recently rejoined Pawuk, building on their prior sponsorship. Pawuk and the Empaco Equipment Dodge Charger Hustle Stuff Drag Pak will kick off their quest for a repeat Norwalk victory when qualifying for the Factory Stock Showdown Series gets underway this Friday, June 26, at 12:30 p.m. ET. 10. Drag Race Bracket Bonanza (DRBB), the free-to-play fantasy drag racing game for NHRA fans, is excited to announce that VizionOne Hand Cleaner will serve as the presenting sponsor of the game during this weekend’s Norwalk Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park, June 26-28. As one of the most anticipated stops on the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series schedule, the Norwalk Nationals provides the perfect opportunity for VizionOne Hand Cleaner to connect with passionate racers and fans through the sport’s premier fantasy competition. VizionOne was recently named the official hand cleaner of the NHRA. “We’re thrilled to welcome VizionOne Hand Cleaner as our presenting sponsor for Norwalk,” said Elon Werner, creator of Drag Race Bracket Bonanza. “Anyone involved in motorsports knows the importance of having a quality hand cleaner in the shop, pits or garage. VizionOne has built a product that racers can trust, making this a natural partnership for our players and the drag racing community.” Throughout the race weekend, DRBB players will continue to make their picks across Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle, competing for bragging rights and climbing the season-long standings. The partnership will also give VizionOne Hand Cleaner visibility across DRBB’s digital platform and player communications during one of the busiest stretches of the NHRA season. “Drag racing is built on hard work, dedication and countless hours in the shop,” said Vic Wood, Racing Manager of Drag Racing Sales for VizionOne Hand Cleaner. “We’re excited to partner with Drag Race Bracket Bonanza and engage with the fans and racers who live that lifestyle every day.” Drag Race Bracket Bonanza has become one of the most popular fan engagement platforms in NHRA drag racing, allowing fans to test their racing knowledge by predicting race outcomes each event weekend. Participation is free, and players can compete against friends, fellow fans, drivers, teams and industry insiders throughout the season. DRBB players will have the chance to fill out their brackets for the Norwalk Nationals when qualifying ends at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park on Saturday, June 27. They will then have until the first round of eliminations begins on Sunday, June 28 at 11 a.m. EST to submit their picks. Fans can follow DRBB on social media for cool stats, prize updates, and info on Twitter/X at @dragracebb or @DragRaceBracketBonanza on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. And they can watch the NHRA broadcast on FS1 and FOX. This story was originally published on June 23, 2026. 12. Former NHRA sportsman racer J.C. Beattie Jr.’s venture into Pro 632 presented by Mark Williams Enterprises in the Red Line Oil PDRA Drag Racing Series is finally showing the rewards for the team’s hard work over the last few seasons. Beattie recently switched to a new nitrous-fed powerplant under the hood scoop in his ATI Performance Products ’18 Camaro, and when you combine that with Beattie’s driving and Dave Hanlon’s tuning, you end up with a dominant start to the 2026 season. Editor’s Note: This story originally appeared in DI #200, the WSOPM Issue, in May/June 2026. At the season-opening KTR Drag Racing Carolina Nationals presented by Pee Dee Fleet at Darlington Dragway, half of the drivers in Pro 632 dipped into the 4.10s, but Beattie separated himself from that pack with a 4.127-second pass at 172.55 mph. That pass in the final qualifying session was enough to give Beattie his first career No. 1 qualifier award. “It’s been a long time coming for us,” Beattie said. “We’ve tried for three years now. We started with N/A [naturally aspirated]. We waited almost two years on a motor, which is well worth the wait now. We stuck it in the car for Bristol last year and came out swinging. Had very few passes on the car and really learned a lot. Made a bunch of mistakes, but Reher-Morrison and Brad [Morgan] put together a really good piece. I’ve got an awesome tuner and the car was a bracket car with a .14 to a .17, and then we turned it up for the final qualifier. It took it. I knew as soon as it got past 60 feet, I think I was already pretty excited, and I saw the .12 pop up. I was like, ‘All right, we got it.’” Beattie carried that performance into eliminations, but cold temperatures led to the postponement of the semis and finals to the next stop on tour, the Summit Racing Equipment East Coast Nationals presented by FuelTech at Darana Motorsports Park – Benson, NC. When racing resumed, Beattie earned a confidence-boosting semifinal win over two-time and defending world champion Jeff Melnick with a 4.179 before taking a side-by-side win over Jeff Pittman in the final round. Pittman left first, but Beattie fired off a 4.117 at 172.72 to drive around Pittman’s 4.136 at 171.01. It was Beattie’s first career win in Pro 632 competition. “Well, we had to wait a few weeks, and last time we ran [Jeff] Melnick, the two-time champion, he got us, so I was hoping it was our turn – and it was – to beat him in the semis and then go on to the finals,” Beattie said in the winner’s circle. “We had a goal of qualifying No. 1 and winning a race, and we checked those off quick. We want to double-up with my son [James Beattie III] winning a race in Pro Jr. Dragster. He lost in the semifinals, but we’ll try again starting this weekend, which is great, and I’m going to try to keep on going and take the No. 1 points position a little farther.” After completing the Darlington race on Thursday, Beattie qualified No. 2 for the East Coast Nationals on Friday and extended his win streak by four rounds on Saturday, ultimately getting the win over a red-lighting David Cook Jr. in the final round. Beattie ran a 4.170 at 170.17, while Cook posted a quicker 4.163 at 168.87 after going .004 red. “We’ve been around 632, paid our dues running with an N/A motor, and last year we just had stupid stuff learning the car,” Beattie said. “We have a total of about 60 runs on this car now between racing and testing, and it’s still a little bit of a work in progress. But we’ve got a great tuner, Dave Hanlon. We’ve got a great motor from Reher-Morrison. We’ve got Todd and Scott and the guys at the shop as well, doing the transmissions and converters. I’m always grabbing them, moving them all over the place. It all just came together, and two 660 Men is pretty awesome.” While Beattie was fielding his own car, he was also managing a multi-car Jr. Dragster program that includes his son, 2024 PDRA Top Jr. Dragster world champion James Beattie III. That effort also netted the event win in Top Jr. Dragster with driver Kole Paone. “We had four Juniors on the other side [of the pit] that we run with my son and Richard Tilghman’s two kids. I brought my girlfriend’s son down as well, so we ran a bunch of Juniors around the big car,” Beattie said. “We were able to win in Top Jr. as well with my girlfriend’s boy and then rack up another one with [the Pro 632 car]. Another goal was to win with one of the Juniors, so we’ll take it. I’d sure love to be in a winner’s circle picture with my son in one of them, as would Richard with either of his kids. So that’s the next goal.” Having already checked off the team’s goals of getting a No. 1 qualifier award and a win in Pro 632, Beattie is thrilled with the progress, but he’s not resting. He’s motivated to stay on top of the class as the series continues into the summer months. “We just need to tighten the package up a little more,” Beattie said. “We didn’t qualify No. 1. We were right there and we think there’s a little bit left here and there. We’re picking at small numbers now. It kind of brings me back to my class racing when I’d run Stock, Super Stock, things like that, where you’re looking for thousandths, and that’s where we are. That’s what’s fun about 632. The top grouping, everybody’s right there. It’s a race four or five guys can win, and I just wish some more people would put them together and come race with us because it’s fun. It’s a lot of fun.” This story was originally published on June 23, 2026. The post On A Roll: J.C. Beattie Jr. Off to Career-Best Start in PDRA Pro 632 first appeared on Drag Illustrated. If you haven’t watched this kind of racing before, you are in for a treat. It’s all big power, big noise, crash and burn, and high flying action in an environment unlike any other. If you are new around there then you might not know that we seriously dig Formula Off-Road racing here at BANGshift.com. This is high flying, loud, and intense racing that involves what look to be impossible hillclimbs, usually on giant courses made from pea gravel or something similar. It’s intense, the cars often end up upside down or rolling over down a hill. They end up rightside up on their own sometimes, but regardless the action is fun and kind of nuts. These drivers do some stuff that I’m not sure most people could. Check it out below. Video Description: Formula Offroad Iceland, Stangarhylur 2026! Track 6 in Stangarhylur.
