In every superspeedway race of the Next Gen era, NASCAR Cup drivers can be seen placing their hands against the opening between the A-pillar and window net in an effort to find every possible aero advantage. Drivers have gone as far as manipulating their gloves, including the infamous case where Joey Logano was penalized for illegal webbed racing gloves. 4. A Sonic PreviewThe Ferrari Daytona SP3 is arguably one of the most important creations to emerge from Maranello, distinguished by the most powerful naturally aspirated V12 ever fitted to a Ferrari road car. Its high-revving character—made possible by the absence of turbochargers – delivers a signature Ferrari soundtrack that feels increasingly rare in the modern era. Still, for Novitec, the engine may yet benefit from further enhancement, following the tuner’s recent tease of new upgrades for the supercar. In a recent Instagram post, Novitec shared footage of a Daytona SP3 blasting past with a loud, aggressive exhaust note. While the tuner stopped short of revealing any technical details, the accompanying caption alone gives enthusiasts plenty to anticipate. The post reads: “You don't see it first, you hear it. Then, a legend passes by. Naturally aspirated and unmistakable. The next chapter is close.” Maranello Turns the Volume UpFor now, it remains unclear whether the engine itself will receive performance tuning in addition to an exhaust upgrade. However, based on Novitec’s previous projects, the tuner typically increases horsepower to complement its bespoke exhaust systems. The Daytona SP3’s predecessors – the Monza SP1 and Monza SP2 – were both treated to power upgrades that raised output to 844 horsepower, representing a 34-horsepower increase over their factory ratings. That additional power was enough to shave the 0–62 mph sprint from 2.9 seconds down to 2.8 seconds. As it stands, the Daytona SP3 produces 829 horsepower from its 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12, edging out both the 812 Competizione and the 12Cilindri, which each deliver 819 horsepower. Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Ferrari Built for a Very Small ClubPricing for the Novitec upgrade package has yet to be announced, but given that the Daytona SP3 carries a starting price of around $2.25 million, it’s unlikely to be a major concern for owners. Ferrari limited production to just 599 examples, with an additional one-off car created specifically for auction – an example that later sold for $26 million during Monterey Car Week. While waiting to see what Novitec has planned for the Daytona SP3, the tuner has remained active with several other high-profile projects. These include modifying the Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II through its Spofec division, where the luxury sedan receives revised aerodynamic components, 22-inch forged alloy wheels, and an engine tune that pushes its 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 to nearly 700 horsepower. The tuner has also turned its attention to the Lamborghini Urus SE, fitting the plug-in hybrid performance SUV with a widebody kit, 23-inch forged wheels, and a bespoke exhaust system crafted from ultra-light Inconel and finished in 999 fine-gold plating. 5. With the 2026 spring and summer driving season approaching, most of us are anticipating higher gas prices. While California drivers are already feeling the squeeze of $4.50-per-gallon averages, there’s a massive swath of the country where pump prices are still affordable. Whether you're piloting a traditional ICE vehicle or a fuel-sipping hybrid, knowing where the bargains are can save you a bundle on your next cross-country trek. We’ve combed through the latest market data and reporting to find the nine states where regular gas is actually affordable right now. From the Rocky Mountains to the East Coast, these states are benefiting from a mix of low local taxes, proximity to major pipelines, and favorable regional market dynamics. If you’re planning a road trip this February or beyond, these are the states where you can fill up for less. James Ochoa Montana [$2.75]The Treasure State is living up to its name for drivers this month, with regular unleaded averaging just $2.75 per gallon. This pricing is a welcome reprieve compared to last year, when Montana drivers were shelling out $3.03 for the same fuel. Currently, Montana sits nearly 20 cents below the national average of $2.94, making it one of the most affordable stops in the Rocky Mountain region. Gas is inexpensive here primarily due to its proximity to regional refineries and lower-than-average state fuel taxes. However, even in a "cheap" state, location matters. If you’re filling up in Great Falls, you’re seeing some of the best prices in the state at roughly $2.70. Meanwhile, folks in Billings are paying a bit of a premium at $2.77 per gallon. Kristen Brown Utah [$2.79]Utah has seen a significant improvement in gas prices over the last twelve months. Today’s average of $2.79 is a far cry from the $3.09 drivers were paying in February 2025. Like its neighbors, Utah benefits from being part of the Rocky Mountain supply network, which currently enjoys some of the lowest regional prices in the lower 48. When compared to the national average, Utah drivers are saving about 15 cents per gallon. The state’s pricing is also helped by the fact that it isn't quite as geographically isolated as parts of the West Coast. For the absolute best deals, head toward Ogden, where prices dip to $2.75. If you’re in Provo or Orem, expect to pay slightly more, with averages hovering around $2.76. Related: These 4 California gas stations are the cheapest in the state Colorado [$2.85]Colorado is another Rocky Mountain win for the budget-conscious driver. While the state average is $2.85 today, it is a significant discount from the national baseline of $2.94 per gallon for regular gas. It’s also a much better deal than what we saw in the peak volatility of the early 2020s, staying well below the $3.00 threshold that often acts as a psychological barrier for commuters. Colorado keeps prices low because of its robust infrastructure and connections to major interior pipelines in the west and south, specifically Texas. While the "seasonal pivot" is starting to nudge prices upward across the West, Colorado remains a haven for cheap fuel compared to states on the West Coast. The cheapest gas can typically be found in the Denver metro area and surrounding plains, while high-altitude resort towns in the Rockies predictably see the state's highest prices due to the "trek" required for delivery. Brandon Bell/Getty Images Indiana [$2.75]Hoosiers are currently enjoying some of the lowest prices in the Midwest, averaging $2.75 per gallon. This is roughly 14 cents cheaper than this time last year. However, don't get too comfortable; Many reports indicate that prices here jumped 7 cents recently as refineries begin the transition to summer-blend gasoline. Indiana’s low prices are largely thanks to its position as a major trucking and pipeline corridor. However, the price gap within the state is noticeable, sometimes reaching a full dollar difference between stations. You'll find the best prices in Indianapolis, where the average is $2.76, while the most expensive stations in the state are currently hitting as high as $3.29. Mike Copeland via Getty Images Ohio [$2.89]Ohio is currently sitting pretty at $2.89, which is about 5 cents below the national average. While it’s not the cheapest on our list, prices have been trending downward, falling roughly 2.7% over the last month. Compared to the $3.10 (or more) averages we saw in recent years, today's pump price feels like a steal for Buckeye State drivers. The state’s competitive pricing is driven by its high concentration of gas stations and proximity to Midwest refining hubs. If you're looking for the best deal, Cincinnati is currently a hotspot for savings, with average prices around $2.71. Conversely, more rural areas in the eastern part of the state often see higher prices due to diminished competition and higher transportation costs. Related: These are the 5 US cities with the cheapest gas today West Virginia [$2.83]West Virginia is an anomaly on the East Coast, managing to keep its regular gas average at $2.83. That is nearly 20 cents cheaper than the $3.02 average recorded one year ago. In a region where prices can easily spike due to supply chain hiccups, the Mountain State is holding firm as a budget-friendly outlier. The state benefits from its proximity to Appalachian energy production and the major pipelines that thread through the region. However, geography still plays a role in what you pay. In Hampshire County, drivers are seeing higher-than-average prices of around $2.96. For the best deals, you’ll generally want to stick to the major highway corridors where high-volume stations compete more aggressively on price. Virginia [$2.84]Virginia drivers are paying an average of $2.84 today, putting them a solid 10 cents below the national average. This is a noticeable improvement from February 2025, when prices were closer to $3.00. While the state saw a slight 4% increase over the last month, it remains one of the most affordable states on the Atlantic seaboard. Virginia’s secret lies in a combination of relatively moderate state fuel taxes and excellent access to the Colonial Pipeline system. You’ll find the steepest prices in the Northern Virginia (NOVA) suburbs near D.C., where high demand and cost of living push regular prices toward $3.10. For the cheapest fill-ups, head to the Richmond area or the southern border, where prices are closer to the state average. Rhode Island [$2.87]It’s rare to see a New England state on a "cheap gas" list, but Rhode Island is currently pulling it off with an average of $2.87. This is at the lower end of the regional average for New England, which currently ranges from $2.84 to $2.90 on any given day. Compared to last year, Rhode Island drivers are saving nearly 25 cents per gallon. Because the state is so small, gas doesn't have to travel far once it reaches regional distribution hubs, which helps keep "trek" costs down. While you won't find massive price swings across the state, the Providence area typically offers the most competitive rates due to station density. The most expensive fuel is usually found on Aquidneck Island. New Hampshire [$2.83]New Hampshire is currently the king of cheap gas in New England, with an average of $2.83. That is a 1.4% decrease over the last month, bucking the national trend of rising prices. Compared to the national average, Granite State drivers are saving 11 cents per gallon. The lack of a state sales tax and competitive local markets keeps prices down here. It’s a favorite stop for drivers from neighboring Massachusetts who cross the border just to fill up. The best prices are usually found along the I-93 corridor in the southern part of the state. If you head north into the White Mountains, expect to pay more as the distance from distribution centers increases. 6. As car enthusiasts, we’ll watch just about any automotive movie, even the bad ones. Thankfully, F1: The Movie, starring Brad Pitt, landed firmly in the “great” category, and now it’s officially getting a sequel. After becoming Apple Original Films’ most successful theatrical release and earning serious awards recognition, the high-speed drama is set to return. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed the news in an interview with the BBC. The F1 Film Universe Is Expanding YouTube @Apple TV If you haven't seen F1: The Movie yet for some reason, spoiler alert. Directed by Joseph Kosinski and co-produced by Lewis Hamilton, the original F1 movie followed Pitt as veteran driver Sonny Hayes, who returned to the grid with the fictional APXGP team after years away from racing. Much of the film was shot during real Formula 1 race weekends across the 2023 and 2024 seasons, including at Silverstone, giving it a level of authenticity rarely seen in motorsport movies. While a few Hollywood-style white lies were added for drama, the majority of the racing action and team dynamics were surprisingly accurate. The result was one of Hollywood’s coolest movie car experiences in years, helping the film gross around $630 million worldwide and secure four Oscar nominations, including one for Best Picture. Jerry Bruckheimer Confirms the Sequel Is in Motion YouTube @Galaxy Theatres Speaking to the BBC at an Academy Awards event in Los Angeles, Bruckheimer revealed that work on the sequel is already underway. While no timeline or casting details have been shared yet, the project is actively in development. Given Pitt’s central role in the story, a return as Sonny Hayes feels more likely than not. Bruckheimer is no stranger to turning hit films into long-running successes. His past projects include Pirates of the Caribbean, Top Gun, Bad Boys, Days of Thunder, and a film that features one of the most iconic movie cars ever, Gone in 60 Seconds. Formula 1’s Hollywood Era Is Only Just Beginning Cole Attisha With Formula 1 becoming more intense than ever as Cadillac and Audi officially join the grid in 2026, the sport's fandom is growing at an exponential rate. And the success of F1 shows there’s a huge appetite for realistic, high-budget racing stories on the big screen. With the final Fast and Furious film on the horizon (hooray), there’s space for a new car-focused franchise that leans more toward authenticity than cars in space. If the sequel delivers the same balance of realism and spectacle, Formula 1’s place in Hollywood looks set to keep growing. View the full article
  7. New car prices are higher than ever in the United States, with the average transaction price (ATP) surpassing $50,300 in late 2025 and the average manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) going past $52,600 as of December 2025. Because of this, many U.S. buyers are turning to the used car market, only to find that things are not that great there either. We’re now seeing used car prices near 2022 record levels as a result of strong demand and limited inventory–especially 3-to-4-year-old vehicles, a direct result of the 8.1 million fewer new vehicles sold in 2020-2022 during the semiconductor crisis. But high prices are not the only concern for potential buyers, as the lack of inventory is pushing an increasing number of dealers to resort to questionable practices such as selling cars with branded–or salvage–titles. Why Some Dealers No Longer Refuse To Touch Salvage-Title Cars Automotive News reports that what used to be a taboo for a car dealership is now becoming increasingly common: selling cars that previously suffered significant damage, such as from a collision, flood, or fire, or have been declared "lemons" or total losses by an insurance company. Most mainstream dealerships used to avoid selling used vehicles with branded titles mostly because of the potential liability resulting from that, but as it turns out, it's a new world out there. While most auction buyers bid on salvage-title cars because they’re after parts, there are others who see an opportunity for a quick buck, so they purchase them to fix and resell them. The report notes that an increasing number of those buyers are car dealers who are perfectly okay with selling cars that have previous damage in their history and were since repaired so long as the vehicles meet certain quality requirements. While most mainstream dealers don’t get involved with totaled cars, others said they’re open to cars with unknown mileage or a lemon law buyback in their history, provided there’s evidence that any persisting issues have been solved. Just think about that for a second: you may end up buying a lemon or a used car that may have been subjected to odometer fraud in the past. A Totaled Car Nowadays Doesn't Necessarily Mean What It Used To Getty Now, as The Drive points out, a salvage title in 2026 does not mean what it once did. Typically, insurers write off a car if the cost of a repair exceeds a certain percentage of the car’s value. That results in a branded title being issued and the car in question being sent to auction, at least most of the time. In dealers’ defense, more cars are being declared “totaled” these days not because of major collision, flood or fire damage, but simply because the parts needed to put them back on the road are too expensive to warrant a repair. These cars may be in perfectly working order save for a missing electronic component or lighting unit that is extremely expensive because of limited supply and high demand. Once a car like that gets fixed, it’s good business both for the dealer, who gets to add a cheaper used car to the inventory, and the buyer, who can land a bargain should the vehicle lack other serious issues. As always, it’s up to the buyer to exercise caution when purchasing a used car, even if it’s from a trusted, mainstream dealer. Ask for all the information you need before committing to a purchase, and especially for proof that the seller's claims are true. View the full article

  10. Mercedes is listening to customers, dropping the widely derided four-cylinder hybrid setup and installing a revised six-cylinder engine in the new GLC 53, an engine that will make its way to other models very soon. The automaker isn't done making enthusiasts happy, though, with current Mercedes-AMG CEO Michael Schiebe confirming to Car and Driver that its famed Black Series badge will return, despite the recent introduction of similarly low-volume Mythos creations, one of which will be based on the CLE coupe. In fact, AMG sees the continuation of the Black Series as an "obligation," indicating that Mythos models will cater to a different type of clientele. AMG's Outgoing CEO Says the Black Series Drought Won't Last Forever Mercedes-Benz Ahead of Schiebe making way for incoming CEO Stefan Weckbach in July, the current AMG boss said of Black Series models, "We have been very successful with it. This is such a strong brand, it's an obligation. If you want to develop a Black Series, then it really has to convince in terms of performance. It needs to be radical. But we want to carry that into the future." In essence, Schiebe is telling us that, in order for a Black Series model to be worthy of the badge, it needs to be a hardcore performance vehicle capable of competing with the very best, and that's not something it takes lightly. The yet-to-be-revealed Concept AMG GT Track Sport that Mercedes teased last year seems to fit the mold, but whether this will revive the Black Series name is not yet confirmed. Related: Mercedes-AMG’s New Electric GT 4-Door Is Shaping Up to Be Its Most Extreme Performance Car Yet The last Black Series model, introduced in 2021, was also based on the AMG GT, but this badge has also been applied to the SLS supercar, the C63 compact coupe, the SL65 luxury sports car, and the tiny SLK55, the first car to launch the Black Series lineage. But if Black Series cars are coming, where does the Mythos line fit in? Mythos Will Also Signify Exclusivity, But Moreso Mercedes-AMG In 2022, Mercedes announced the Mythos line as a new breed of "ultra-exclusive collector cars" that would only be available to "the most dedicated enthusiasts and collectors of Mercedes-Benz." Its first creation was the attention-grabbing, windshield-free PureSpeed roadster, of which only 250 examples are planned for production, and while extreme, this vehicle is more of a showpiece than a truly performance-focused machine. Think of it this way: while Ferrari is producing the F80 as its most aggressive and focused hypercar, the Icona series, including cars like the Monza SP1 and Daytona SP3, is more automotive art than outright exhilaration. Black Series and Mythos cars will both be expensive and both be capable of remarkable speeds, but while the former's buyers might occasionally find their way to a track, the latter's will be more comfortable putting their cars in a climate-controlled garage that doubles as an automotive museum, or on the lawns of Pebble Beach. 12. Mazda’s Most Important ProductNeedless to say, the Mazda CX-5 is the Japanese marque’s most important model right now. It’s been its global bestseller for years, even hitting a production milestone that only two other Mazdas have ever reached. With numbers like that, the CX-5 has a direct impact on the company’s bottom line. Mazda is counting on that popularity to carry the CX-5 through a tougher market. Since the CX-5 comes from Japan instead of a US factory, it faces higher costs than its American-built rivals. Mazda’s answer? Cut costs in places buyers won’t notice or care about, according to CFO Jeffrey Guyton. Mazda Where Mazda Trimmed the FatMazda didn’t specify each and every cost-cutting measure employed on the new-generation CX-5, though Guyton specifically pointed out the steering wheel. The old CX-5 used leather stitched so precisely that the seams lined up perfectly straight. It looked great, but most people never noticed – and it cost extra. For the new model, Mazda switched to angled stitching like most rivals, using the same leather but skipping the extra steps. Guyton told Automotive News that there are several other cost cuts hidden throughout the CX-5. Mazda also worked with Nippon Steel early on to trim costs and weight from the body structure, allowing the automaker to make the SUV bigger without driving up costs. Not every area saw cost reductions. Mazda chose to spend more on features customers use every day, such as a larger center touchscreen and better integration of Google car connectivity. Improvements like enhanced voice recognition were seen as offering more value to buyers than changes hidden in manufacturing. Mazda It’s All About TariffsThe main reason for these cost cuts is tariffs and timing. A new 15 percent US tariff on Japanese imports adds a high cost to every CX-5 Mazda sends to America. Mazda estimates total tariff costs of about ¥162.5 billion (around $1 billion) this fiscal year, which is a major challenge for a brand already dealing with declining profits. By trimming costs where it won’t sway buying decisions, Mazda gives itself more room to move. They can nudge prices up, pull back on incentives, or chase higher sales without putting margins at risk. That kind of flexibility matters as Mazda aims for a modest profit target by the end of March. M View the 8 images of this gallery on the original article View the full article
  13. Frustration Behind The Wheel Reaches Peak LevelsMost motorists are frustrated with what they encounter on the roads every day. A recent study analyzed driver behavior in 40 cities across America and found that most motorists believe improvement is needed in the overall quality of driving habits exhibited by others. But, crucially, there appears to be a lack of self-awareness regarding how individual contributions may be creating the frustration felt daily by millions of drivers across the country. Copyright 2014 Seyth Miersma / AOL Miami Takes the Crown for Most Irritating MotoristsIn evaluating cities with the worst driving behavior, Miami clearly leads the list with consistent and alarming levels of problematic habits. Approximately 86% of Miami residents report that they find local motorists to be extremely annoying. In addition to ranking first in problem behaviors, including aggressive actions, discourteous conduct, and entitled behavior when operating a vehicle, Miami was consistently identified as having the highest incidence of these issues among all 40 cities evaluated. Las Vegas is next on the list, with residents identifying problems including phone use while driving, excessive speeding, and illegal U-turns. Nashville completed the top three cities with the most egregious driving behaviors. Specifically, Nashville recorded a high number of distractions, such as failing to turn on headlights in poor conditions and leaving high beams on. Among all cities surveyed, Philadelphia had the greatest number of aggressive behaviors associated with driving. These included motorists making rude hand gestures and documented cases of drivers exiting their vehicles to verbally confront others. Sacramento also showed a significant problem with rudeness, including frequent instances of littering from automobiles. NurPhoto/Getty Images The Behaviors That Trigger Road RageAccording to the study, the most common trigger for road rage is motorists using their phones while driving, observed by 81% of respondents. Changing lanes without signaling followed at 78%, and tailgating at 71%. Seventy percent reported witnessing excessive speeding on major roads. A notable disparity exists between what motorists observe and what they admit doing. Forty-two percent admitted to speeding on highways, and 49% acknowledged using their phones while driving. Twenty-four percent admitted to rolling through stop signs rather than coming to a complete stop. Growing Interest in Protective MeasuresInterest in protective measures is increasing. Seventeen percent of motorists now use dashboard cameras, and 35% plan to purchase one. This trend reflects growing concern about documenting incidents and protecting against liability at a time when courteous driving appears to be increasingly rare on American roadways. 19. Hunt for a Hot Hatch BeginsVolkswagen has launched a new online game offering prizes that include a 2026 Golf GTI. The initiative forms part of the brand’s revived Drivers Wanted campaign – a slogan that dates back to the 1990s – and appears designed to reintroduce the ‘Drivers Wanted’ platform to a new audience in the U.S. The online game centers on subtle clues embedded within Volkswagen’s social media posts, which guide participants to a dedicated campaign website. The company is inviting a “new generation of drivers” to take part and “live life in the driver’s seat by rewarding their curiosity.” That "new generation of drivers" framing aligns well with the Golf GTI’s positioning as a practical, daily driver model for newer, brand-curious buyers. Volkswagen The GTI’s Longstanding Sweet SpotBoth the Golf GTI and Golf R are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, although the former features a more conservative tune rated at 241 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Volkswagen has already discontinued the manual transmission for the GTI in the U.S., despite sustained demand from enthusiasts, leaving the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic as the sole gearbox option. While the Golf R is equipped with an all-wheel-drive system, the Golf GTI sends power exclusively to the front wheels. One possible reason the Golf GTI was selected as the giveaway vehicle is that the nameplate is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Even after five decades, it remains one of the most influential models in Volkswagen’s lineup, continuing to define the brand’s interpretation of the hot hatch formula. Volkswagen Clock Is Already TickingThe sweepstakes opened on February 8, with interested participants encouraged to search for embedded clues across Volkswagen’s social media channels that lead back to the Drivers Wanted campaign website. Entries will be accepted through March 2 at 11:59 p.m. ET, with the promotion open to legal U.S. residents physically residing in the 50 states, Puerto Rico, or Washington, D.C., who are 25 and older. The latest Drivers Wanted campaign highlights several of Volkswagen’s current models, including the Jetta and Atlas. It also features the ID. Buzz, the all-electric model that reimagines the classic Type 2 – though its rollout in the U.S. has yet to gain significant momentum and won't be sold for the 2026 model year. Regardless, best of luck to participants as they follow the subtle clues that could lead them to a brand-new car for free. View the full article

Its V12 engine’s monumental torque is fed to the rear wheels exclusively, so it’s a handful off the mark. And, now that Mercedes has discontinued the CL and subsequent S-Class Coupe, these cars—and especially AMG versions—are becoming more valuable. Even so, nobody could have been prepared for the shocking selling price of this particular CL65. According to Kelley Blue Book, the 2005 Mercedes CL65 had an original MSRP of $178,220, and the fair purchase price (representing what consumers are actually paying for 2005 CL 65s) is way down at only $12,000. Being the flagship Mercedes coupe of the time, the CL65 comes with absolutely everything. The list includes soft-closing doors, heated/ventilated front seats, a Bose sound system, a power rear sunshade, and Merc’s older DVD Comand navigation system. This CL had much in common with the W220 S-Class. Unfortunately, that includes sub-par build quality by Merc's lofty standards, although the interior is still plush and comfortable. An Engine For The Ages 2005 Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG Bring A Trailer View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article The CL65 is all about its thunderous power plant. This 6.0-liter V12 lump is boosted by twin turbochargers, allowing for outputs of 604 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. Although Mercedes had a newer seven-speed automatic at the time, it had to use a five-speed auto for the CL65, as only this transmission could handle the coupe’s tremendous torque. It needs a little over four seconds to hit 60, no doubt limited by traction issues off the mark—depressing your right foot to even half-throttle sets the traction control light blinking furiously. Gas mileage is horrendous. In city driving, the CL 65 manages just 11 mpg, while highway cruising will get you 18 mpg at best. The EPA estimates an average of 13 mpg, and that’s the price to pay for the effortlessness of that V12. Related: These Are the Last V12 Cars You Can Still Buy New in America What It Means B Unless you’re willing to splurge on a Maybach S680, you can’t buy a new Mercedes-Benz with a V12. Other top Mercs have resorted to using turbocharged V8s, so there are no longer any new AMG models around with a V12. That makes the CL 65 one of a very special breed of Mercedes-AMGs. Although Mercedes says it plans to keep the V12 around into the next decade, that doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll see such an engine in a big, grand touring coupe like the CL again. All of which means that we could see more collectors dropping exotic-car money on these cars in the years ahead. View the full article
  21. Daytona 500 qualifying is unique, and different from every other race on the Cup Series schedule. It always delivers the drama, both in the battle for pole position, but also those trying to make it into the field. While the Indianapolis 500 has Bump Day and Fast 12, NASCAR has the Duels at Daytona. Four drivers and teams will be sent home on Thursday night as their dreams of competing in ...Keep readingView the full article
  22. The midsize performance sedan segment is not getting any bigger in 2026. That's because Audi is not planning to introduce a new combustion-powered S6 this year, despite recently giving the all-new A6 several updates, including a new infotainment interface, a revised steering wheel, improved voice control, and more. Edmunds reports that the only middle ground between the A6 and the RS6 for the 2026 model year will be the all-electric S6 Sportback e-tron, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. As Audi seeks to simplify its lineup, the S6 was a clear candidate for discontinuation, as the previous-generation S6 was lukewarm in both performance and buyer enthusiasm. Dropping the Gas Audi S6 Makes Sense Audi Audi has streamlined the entire A6 range, removing four-cylinder engines from the lineup and offering the gas A6 exclusively with a 3.0-liter V6, and although this only produces 362 horsepower (the old S6 made 444 hp), Audi claims a 0-60 mph time of just 4.5 seconds, which is a tenth quicker than the previous-gen S6 could manage in Edmunds testing. The 2026 A6 can also be more exciting in the bends than before, with a sport rear differential available, along with firmer suspension and rear-wheel steering. For the record, the S6 Sportback e-tron's dual-motor electric powertrain offers 543 hp, while the A6 e-tron makes up to 456 hp (375 hp in single-motor guise). Audi's simplified A6 lineup is reminiscent of a BMW decision from a couple of years back, when the Bavarian automaker elected to discontinue the V8-powered M550i for the G30 generation, leaving buyers with a choice between the all-electric i5 M60 and the range-topping G90 M5 plug-in hybrid. RS6 Still Available for 2026 Audi EV power isn't permeating the entire Audi lineup. In fact, the next-gen RS6 e-tron has been canceled, and while we wait for the C9 RS6 to arrive (retaining a V8 engine), the current C8 RS6 will continue to be offered for 2026. Audi USA lists the high-performance wagon with a starting price of $130,700, and that buys a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 making 621 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. That's enough for a claimed 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. In a nutshell, Audi, like BMW, is no longer attempting to fill every possible niche. Developing S (or M-lite) performance models alongside high-performance RS (and full-fat M) variants can no longer be justified for every model line. The top-tier models act as halos and are therefore still worth offering, and those who don't want ultimate bragging rights can go electric, where retaining the S (or M60) variants helps increase the allure of switching to EV power. 23. NASCAR Cup cars got on track at Daytona for the first time on Wednesday, shaking down their cars in morning practice for the 68th running of the Daytona 500. With qualifying following later in the day, most times were in qualifying trim and focusing on single-car runs. However, there was the occasional drafting and very small groups that formed, impacting the final speed charts. While some ...Keep readingView the full article
  24. The third generation of the Porsche Panamera was first unveiled toward the end of 2023, so the 976 chassis is still relatively new, yet Stuttgart is already preparing some improvements. Our spy photographers have captured some of these updates on prototype development mules undergoing cold-weather testing ahead of the 2028 model year's launch, which is expected later this year or early in 2027, but the most significant changes will be invisible to the naked eye. While America may be loosening emissions rules, the Panamera is a global product, and to conform to Europe's more stringent legislation, the luxury sedan's various powertrain options are being refined ahead of the implementation of new Euro 7 emissions standards. Still, this update will benefit U.S. buyers, with refined styling and additional safety tech, not to mention improved gas mileage. More Safety Tech for the 2028 Porsche Panamera SH Proshots/Autoblog View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article The new Panamera will boast more capable driver assistance technologies than before, with a radar unit now evident in the windshield space above the rearview mirror. This is similar to the 2026 Macan EV, which offers a system that can find parking spaces and guide the vehicle into them, even if parallel parking is required. Over time, the system learns about frequently used parking spots, like a home garage, and can offer to park the vehicle automatically. The same system includes a reversing assistance feature that can reverse the vehicle up to 160 feet along the same path it just drove forward on, which makes backing out of tight areas much less stressful for the driver and reduces the risk of damage to the bumpers, which will be revised for the Panamera facelift. 2028 Porsche Panamera: New-Look Fascias Front and Rear SH Proshots/Autoblog View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article As a facelift, Porsche will not be heavily updating the lighting systems, with the headlights and taillights retaining the shapes seen on the current Panamera. However, the headlights will be subtly tweaked in terms of daytime running light graphics, with the Porsche logo moving from the center of the LED signature to the innermost corner of the cluster. Changes are also expected at the rear, where the prototype development mules are hiding the center of the taillight bar. In the current model, a Porsche script resides here, and while we expect this to remain, the depth and texture of this LED signature are likely to change. The most significant visual changes will be coming to the bumpers, with the rear gaining a revised diffuser panel and exhaust cutouts, and the front lower side intakes adopting a less squared appearance, thanks to diagonal bars below the LED DRLs. More information will follow as the year progresses. SH Proshots/Autoblog View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article View the full article
  25. In NASCAR, every car number has its own identity, statistics, and emotions around it. Some carry with them nearly 80 years of stock car racing history, evoking strong reactions from fans whenever it appears on the track. Others have yet to find their place in the pages of stock car racing greatness, but numerology has always been an interesting trend to follow in a sport where the car numbers are ...Keep readingView the full article
